I agree, I don’t want to make assumptions and say that this gentleman isn’t some full-blown audiophile, who’s has been listening to hi-fi gear for years and years because he might be. But I don’t get that vibe. I am enjoying what feels like to me a kind of fresh take on audio gear shot in a really fun and well done fashion.
Man, your videos just keep getting better and better. That intro 😂. On the technical side, I saw other videos explaining the pros of having a dedicated processor in how much detailed and precise the sound was, but was unaware that using external amps with an AVR also would improve on that aspect. I thought it would just provide more power output. This was indeed, as always, as informative as it was entertaining. Well done 👍
I have known for a very long time separates are the way to go. Until this year I was unable to comfortably afford going to separates. Once Emotiva introduced the new BasX line, I became intrigued. I already owned the Marantz SR6015 which can drive 11 channels, but needed a separate amp for the height/Atmos speakers. So I considered the A4 for those. In the end I just pulled the trigger and decided to balance the power across the entire field and purchased 3 BasX amps. 1 A3 and 2 A4s. Like you Ealan, I was impressed with the performance upgrade. True it was subtle, but also very noticeable. I will have to go back and re-watch the scenes you mentioned in this video. FYI, one of my goto scenes to view for audio is the Government Building Lobby scene in The Matrix. It is very impressive with the new setup.
@@stevenschwartzstein4502 I never noticed it getting hot before going to the separates, but it definitely doesn't get warm now. So if your SR6011 is getting warm/hot, then I would imagine this would help.
I picked up the Emotiva BasX A3 and it made a difference to my front sound stage. Now the sound better matches my 92-inch screen with a 4K HDR image. The Ambiance of sounds such as the jingling of keys, the rustling of leaves, and the wind blowing through tall grass is impressive. The front stage of sound also sounds more dynamic and a foot closer. Lastly, the side speakers now blend better with the fronts. I JUST ordered the Emotiva BasX A4 to power my side and rear surrounds (don't tell my spouse).
Nice! I’m about to order the basX 3 today. Current set up. 5.2.2. Klipsch Dolby up-firing, subs duel klipsch 120sw on Pioneer LX505. Going to connect front three to basX and next month bring in rear height and a Svs pb 4000 👀
I got the A5 and I have to say it has transformed my whole soundstage I now only have my heights subwoofer running of my sr7015 so it’s not got much work to do my more did I mention I trigger it from my A2 which I bought first so I have 7 speakers running on BASX amplifier music has also taken a turn for the better.
Just purchased the Emotiva BasX A4 four channel and waiting for it to arrive to run my surrounds and 2 atmos. Great review. Can't wait. Love this channel.
@@ealanosborne Got my new amp yesterday and it replaced my 2 old 30 year old Rotel amps. WOW! What a difference in the Atmos experience. I never realized it would make this huge of a difference in sound quality. Highly recommended.
Hey awesome video once again!! Nice intro though!! Come with some videos on room acoustic panels and bass traps 🪤!! Waiting for that too frm u’! Keep rocking bro!
@@ealanosborne love your content and very easy to follow. Have you heard the Arendal 1723s monitors? I just got their monitirs for front stage and surround 1723s, 4 SVS height ceiling speakers, PB3000 and Denon x4700. Do you think the Emotiva Bassx A5 will give me better sound than running my Denon alone?
@@raymondayala5355 Oh for sure, since those Arendal’s are a beast on their own. They can handle some serious power being THX certified. But it’s not just about power and how loud they get, any external amp that makes the x4700h not have to work as hard powering any speaker will help it process audio better, giving more separation and detail in all the layers of sound you might come across, especially in action scenes. 🤘
I totally agree. I thought my Denon 4700h would be enough for my 7.1.2 system. But adding the A5 is amazing. Use the AVR do the processing (Denon is excellent) and Emotiva for power.
I have the Denon AVR-4400H and bought the XPA5 which is just on another level from the receiver's built in amps. Sounds way better on music and movies. BassX A4 for 4 overhead height speakers and way more detailed too. Enjoy 🎯
I really like this video. The presentation, the humor, the info... I'm so entertained and it's the reason I purchased the A5 with suggested Mogami audio cables. Thanks for your content!
I bought recently Ta1 + bas x A7 and I think that only people that have been paid for promoting it, do this yt videos. In general this staff is cool and have a great fixtures comparing price to competition (except couple software bugs ex. DAC+PC). The only thing is missing is sound. So if you interested in audio might be reasonable do add 150-200$ and search further.
I got the basX 3 a few months ago and it really made a difference in my system. I have the marantz sr 6015(110wpc) also a pair of Klipsch RP 8000f f and RP 504c for the front stage, the rp502 surrounds and four RP 500sa for Atmos. Adding the basX 3 to the front stage did bring out depths and more detail. But where the basX really made a difference was when my subwoofer stopped working (Klipsch SPL 150) and I had to take it back to the store that I got it from and I then had to route the LFE to the front speakers. It brought out more base. In fact they sounded like a sub was still in the room. When I got my system last year I had to wait a couple weeks for the sub to be shipped and listening to my home theater with out it and although it sounded ok but I was thinking that maybe I should have gotten something different but after hearing them with the basX I actually fell in love with my speakers. If you're thinking about getting it, get it.
Having a similar setup, you do not have to set 5 chanels and surround back and you do not have to configure the front speakers to preout. It all happens automatically, even while choosing 5 speakers only without configuring preout for the front speakers
I read that the preout is always active on all channels. However, I wonder if not explicitly configuring the preout channels will affect the sound processing algorithm (if that’s a thing). I don’t know how AVRs process and distribute sound hence my curiosity.
Your reviews are top notch!! Your approach is very entertaining!! The humor keeps me watching all the way through!! For the life of me I can't understand why you don't have more subscribers than all those other fan boys who keep fluffing each other in thier high school circles 🤔 Keep up the awesome videos 🤘👍👌👏 Now a quick question, which Emotiva would you recommend for my 5.2.1 setup? Should I use any power from my Onkyo Rz820 AVR power or just go all the way with the 7 channel Emotiva? Thanks in advance for your input 🤘
Wow! Thanks so much for the compliments! Doing the best I can with trying to stand out from the crowd. 😀 As far as the Emotiva, now that I’ve experienced supplementing an AVR’s power with an ext amp, I’m a big fan of alleviating as much of the AVR’s power as possible. So yeah, I would get the A7 to power all speakers, to allow the AVR to just be a processor. Sharing the load like that opens up everything and power distribution is fantastic. 🤘🙌
Hey. Great video. I have a denon avr-x4100w. It doesn’t have the same amp assign options as the 4700h. How would i go about configuring this with my basxa5? I have 5 bed layer speakers and i just installed 4 in ceiling speakers.
Oof. Yikes. Tough question. According to the manual, you would first need to put it in Dolby Atmos 9.1 mode. But after that (at least according to the diagram) the external amp is only powering the rear height channels. It’s not absolutely clear if the rest of the channels are considered “always on and ready” for an external amp signal, but I would assume so? Since on the back you still have pre-outs for all channels. 🤷♂️ It may be a software limitation in which when you DO use an external amp, you have to at LEAST power your Rear Heights with your BasX A5. Beyond that, I think it’s fair game. So that being said, try to power the Rear Heights, Front Left, Center, Front Right with the A5. Or even try powering all 5 bed layer speakers in the Dolby Atmos 9.1 mode…but that might mean nothing will come out of Rear Height channels? Experimentation, yay! 😄🙌
Hello if you want you can have the back surround by using the Denon amplifiers because there 5 channels not been used right? I have the Denon you showed x4700h and I'm thinking to buy the basx A2 to power the front l/r is that a big improvement on the front l/r for both stereo music and the home theater I have hard to drive speakers and they are 200/280 watts and 4 ohms and I can have a 7.2.4 with the basx A2 right?
With a A5 can you biamp your 2tower and give juice to your central for exemple for a polk R700+R400 and let the 3700 manage the rest of your speaker ? will it recognize bi-amp+1
In theory, yes, you should be able to pull that off with an A5. Only tricky part is that you’ll need 2 RCA splitter cables to split the front left and right signals. Techno Dad has a quick video on this which I’ve linked below. 👍 ruclips.net/video/fPrGqu-_7VE/видео.html
Another awesome video that confirmed my thoughts and direction i needed to head in. Looks like I need a 5ch amp because my RZ50 is already maxed out. When i brought the RZ50 i thought this would do me for years it was so much more then what i had but now i am hooked. I was already looking at Emotiva they seem like the best value and are a nice size.
Great review! Im rethinking the A3 now and considering the A5 so that I know the full bed layer is as defined as it can be, clean 95w rms should be plenty... but this has made me NEED this upgrade, when I thought I only wanted it... so thanks 👍😅
My opinion: Get the A7 for 5 channel instead as it: 1. Has a 1000w psu allowing for "200w per channel" vs "140w" with the A5's 700w psu. This provides more headroom for each amp, especially for dynamic bursts. 2. Larger heatsink to dissipate the heat better 3. The logic? board is moved to the rear of the chassis further away from the amp board which may help lower and EMI between the two, and it has it's own cooling fan. 4. You have the option to add 2 more speakers later. But...at $600 you're also at OSD Black A5500 (old A5180) /Outlaw Audio's 5000x pricing, and has benched 134w all channels driven by Audioholics, and has Balanced XLR inputs.
@@andrewskaterrr makes sense, I hadn't realized the difference in specs, the A7 does sound like the way to go, then i can do the 2 atmos speakers aswell and run full preamp mode (all int amps off) on the x3700 🤔 where it should sound very clean, we dont have OSD or Outlaw unfortunately here in NZ, but we can get Emotiva.
@@calibre00 Sounds like a plan. Also, I would do some listening test with running the 2 atmos speakers off the receiver vs on the A7. I'd be curious if relieving the receiver ('s power supply) of all amp duty would improve sound more than having only the 2 atmos on the receiver still, and allowing all the 1000w for the 5 main channels. Having the amps turned off lowers the noise floor. I believe Amir from AudioScienceReview confirmed it in one of the Denon tests. x3600h review i think?
@@andrewskaterrr yes sounds good, it measures as well as the 3600h from what I can tell, if I find it underpowered I can always use the A7 for surround and future 4x Atmos, then put an A3 on the front 3... Hmm one day 👍
I have the Marantz SR6014 and when I added three power amp Emotiva A1,A2 and A3 amp to it to power all the speaker so the AVR was not connected to no speaker directly I feel like my Svs subwoofer had 3 db more gain . The subwoofer sounded louder than they were before and so the speaker was crystal clean sounding and louder. It was like I was listening to another home theater setup.
Thanks, I know it’s an old video, but convinced me to get the A3 to use for my front stage. I have a Yamaha RX-A2080. Might not be much difference, but I was getting upgraditist.
Investing in external amps is good either way, because if you decide to get a different AVR or preamp processor, you can still use those same amps for years to come. 🤘
Very useful video. Although a year old now (Jan 2023) it is still highly relevant. So I just ordered an A5 via your site, along with RCA cables. Emotiva's price on cables was less ($20 vs $24 for 6 foot Mogami) for, I presume, similar quality. Should really enhance my 7.2.4 with Denon 3600h. Thank you for providing a valuable service.
Hi, very nice video and it included the setup in the Denon receiver that I haven't seen anyone else shown. I'm new to learning about amplifiers so trying to understand more before I decide what to purchase. I recently got the Denon anniversary AVR-A110 13.2 channel receiver and will be using all the 13.2 channels. Have Klipsch RF8000F as front channels. Center is Polk LSiM706. Other surround speakers are a combination of Klipsch Atmos, Kef bookshelf and one pair of SVS Prime elevation. Do I need an external amplifier to drive all these or is the receiver able to handle these? Another question, if I get the 3 channel amplifier for just the front stage, is there a way to turn off the power to those channels in the receiver so the power is distributed to the other channels or does it really matter because no speaker will be connected to those channels? Thanks.
Wow!!! That’s the flagship beast AVR from Denon. NICE! In answer to your questions, no, you wouldn’t need an external amp to power up to a 13.2 channel configuration. But, it is always a good thing to share the load with some external amps wherever possible. So if you did get the A3, and assigned it to your front soundstage, yes, that would essentially turn off those 3 amps inside of the Denon since no signal is reaching them. 👍 That’s gonna be a man incredible setup!
Great video. I'm recommending your channel going forward. I've been stuck in trying to decide between a couple of BasX amps to run my 5.1.4 (A3 along with the A7) or just biting the bullet and getting the Monolith by Monoprice 9-Channel amp. The Monolith is obviously more expensive (considerably), but I can't shake the thought of never having to re-buy an amp. And having the amp power all in one box seems like a much easier solution. More power, plus balance XLRs in case I ever decide to jump into the pre-pro waters.
Thanks for the compliments! And yeah…such is the dilemma with home theater. Since you seem to already have that goal in sight to get separates some day, might as well go for the investment of a Monolith 9 channel amp. Although since the latest BasX line seems super popular right now, I bet resale value will still hold its value for a long time. So you could maybe have a future plan of 1) budget amps 2) preamp 3) monolith amp? And use the proceeds from selling the BasX amps to help buy the monolith. Something to consider. Although the A3 is sold out right now. Everyone wanted their hands on that!
@@ealanosborne I think I overthought my plan. I was going to bring in the A7 first and then add the A3 once it became available to run my front stage (with the A7 running my surrounds and 4 atmos (90w per channel)). But that setup would have cost me $1200 USD. It would have also left the amp on my Denon 3600 being unused and 1 output on the A7 that would have been unused as well. Now I'm thinking a combo of the A3 and A4. $1000USD. A3 for the front stage (140w per channel). A4 for Atmos (100w per channel). Receiver for Surrounds (105w per channel). That combo gives my surrounds and atmos "more power", makes use of the receiver amp, has no unused channels on either of the BasX amps, and would be $200 cheaper. That seems like the better plan.
Here's something to try: Open up the Onkyo and find where the internal amps are, then from there you can find the preamps, then from there, wire an RCA female connection to each channel, then connect the emotiva to those and see if you get the same sound quality you found with the Denon preouts? If this works, it would definitely beat spending a whole grand on a new avr.
I haven’t had too much experience with the big dogs yet (like Arcam, Anthem, NAD), but what I do know is their sound is a bit subjective, as well as their proprietary room correction software. So I would say a Denon+BasX A5 combo would be…different. But from what I experienced with external amps, I would say it’s ALWAYS going to perform a little better than when a receiver has to do audio processing AND amplifying. 🤷♂️
I have the BasX A5 on the way but I have also purchased the XPA-5 GEN3 both from Emotiva. I’m trying to decide is all the power from the XPA-5 needed for a Klipsch 5.2.4 setup? (RP8000fx2, RC64iii, RP600Mx2) amp and x4 RP500SA Dolby atmos ran on Denon x4700h? Dual SVS Pb-3000s.
Maybe not too necessary, but you at least have monster speakers that can handle the power of the XPA-5, especially your RC64iii. But as I stated in the video, it’s not 100% about the power behind the amp. It’s also about lifting the audio processing burden on the X4700H. With an XPA-5 and BasX A5, you might as well put your Denon in “preamp mode” so it doesn’t use any internal amps at all, which will be a fantastic experience. 🙌
@@ealanosborne thank you so much for the feedback. The BasX A5 would be the better choice obviously for money lol. I just didn’t want to regret not getting more power later. I was hoping the cheaper option would be plenty enough power due to the sensitivity of the speakers. Of course keeping both would probably work great as well, just not so friendly to the budget lol.
Hey Elan, have you tried a Crown amp, like the "new" Crown XLS 1002? They have a lot of power for a low cost. I have recently bougt a Denon AVC-3700H witch have pre outs, and now I am curius to know what you think. Especially compared to the much lower powered Emotiva🤨
Wondering where the subwoofer is plugged in? I have a new Marantz SR5001 and a Marantz MM9000 that now has a fuzzy right front channel that will cost more to repair than the cost of this amp. I think I can get by with the BASX A5, and still use the MM9000 to drive the sub. Thoughts?
I’ve bought a base x 7, to connect to my denon 3700 - I have 3 front, 2 sub 4 ceiling and 2 back. My plan is to pre-out everything, my question if you could be so kind, would you drive anything from the Denon? I’m thinking pre-amp is the way to I won’t be adding anymore speakers can’t have sides because of windows - George
Yeah I think the x3700h becomes the best processor it can be when not having to deal with ANY application itself. So yes, I think your ultimate goal is to get to using it in “preamp” mode where all internal amps are off, and all speakers are powered externally. 👍
@@ealanosborne thanks , I’m running speaker cables today so they all go down the LHS of my wall to land at the emotive - thanks again, enjoy your content , 👍☘️🏴
great details… thanks for the video! Question: It was shown, from BasX A5 Trigger out can be connected to another Amplifier’s Trigger Input to power more 4 speakers, so from AVR like 3700h we have to connect 4 more preouts with RCA’s to the second Amp with 4 extra speakers wires connected to second amp, correct? And also as you know, in the Denon 3700h- there is a ‘Pre Amplifier’ Amp assign config which can shut off all the internal AVR amps- so ultimately when we connect two power amps with all 9 speakers sounding from the amps, receiving audio signals from AVR, right?
That’s correct! You would just connect 4 more RCA cables to the additional pre-outs necessary. But yes, you also could just use “preamp” mode to turn all the internal amps off. Although I guess the only scenario you’d still need to use 2 internal amps is if you only had 9 external amp channels and wanted to process a total of 11 channels. Although in my example, I probably should’ve done a hypothetical 3 channel + 2 channel amp or something. 🤷♂️😄 So many configurations and possibilities!
I have the a 5.1.4 system and I just received my Basx5. This one will be connected to my Denon x4300h, since I have 4 in ceiling speakers which I’m planning to use a basx4 amp for them, how do I assign the speakers to connect the front and surround back speakers, any advice will be appreciated.
Good video, Ealan. 👍🏻 I’m in the UK and my BasX A3 is hopefully just less than a week away from delivery. I’ve purchased this for the exact reasons you’ve described; to free up some capacity from my Marantz SR7011. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@ealanosborne thank you. Yes, me too. I’ve ordered some Arendal Sound 1723S speakers, too, so will be doing some simple videos on those when they arrive. Neither are overly common on RUclips videos as yet. Fun fun. 🤩
Hello Ealan, the vids are great entertaining and informative plus that touch of comedy is much appreciated. I had a stupid question, could and old receiver be used as an amplifier to my new receiver? Thank you!
Typically the only receivers that can be used as amps are the more expensive kind that have a section labeled “7.1 analog input” or something to that effect. So that way you can accept an analog audio signal that doesn’t need to be processed, just amplified. 🤘
The only problem with this setup that the AVR's poweramps still running and heating the whole unit... and consuming a lot of power. I was planning for pre/power amping, beside the quality upgrade, to be able to remove all the heating amps from the AVR. Really stupid of Denon, but lesson learned: you have to go for height channels, not atmos speakers. :) Anyway, your review was good and useful for me. I was already thinking of parasoung A52+ or something, but if a simple Emotiva BasX is this big a step from the AVR's built-in amps, it might be more than enough for me too. Thanks.
I hope to have some hookups with Bose and Sony soon, but until then, I can’t exactly afford to buy them outright just for reviewing purposes. Some day though! 😄🤘
Hey Ealan, I hope you can answer me!. I have a rather small room with a yamaha a6a (150w) and klipsch speakers. Would the A3 or A5 be better in my case? considering the A5 is only $50 more. 1) Better more power with the A3 or less power and more channels with the A5? 2) The specified watts of the basx amplifiers are the same per channel even if fewer channels are occupied? If it occupied 3 channels of A5, would it reach almost the 130w of the A3?. Thank you!
It’s not just more power and louder volumes being more easily attainable, it helps your Yamaha process audio better by not having to utilize its resources as much when powering your speakers is being done by something else. 🙌 So yes, even in a fairly small room, external amps will help with better channel separation and detail in the sound. 1) I think it might be more noticeable being surrounded with more detail with an A5. But also… 2) The A5 is rated at 120 wpc into 8 ohms with 2 channels driven, and 95 wpc into 8 ohms with 5 channels driven, so driving only 3 should be somewhere in between. 🎉
Hi, I want to upgrade my system with Emotiva BasX A3, with my Denon AVR-X4700H & Polk Reserve R600 & R400 for my front stage. Is this combination will be right for me to improve the sound quality, dynamics & shifting the load off from AVR that will improve the surround speakers R100 & Atmos speakers performance. What is Your advice, your suggestion will be great help for me.
I want to purchase an BasX A3...my question is will my Onkyo RZ50's preouts have enough power to drive the A3, and how do you determine the preout wattage...or how much preout wattage is needed to drive power amplifers.
Since it’s a pre out, it’s taking the audio signal pre - or before - it hits the internal amp at all. So there’s no wattage involved with pre outs. Voltage, yes, but just because it’s an electronic device that runs in electricity. So the RZ50 is only sending the audio signal to the A3, which then the A3 alone powers 3 of your speakers. That’s the really cool thing about adding external amps to any system - your essentially relieving the AVR from having to do EVERYTHING (video switching, audio processing, powering your speakers), so you’re helping it perform better by making it do less. Make sense? ☺️
@@ealanosborne Makes perfect sense…but let’s take this a little further, is there something I can buy to take the video switching/ audio processing from the AVR? Or would that be overkill.
@@mptobler1 If I’m understanding your question right, that’s what a preamp processor is, like the Emotiva MC1, IOTA AVX17 or Marantz AV 10. No amps inside, so you HAVE to power your speakers exclusively with external amps.
Great video, you are great at explaining in detail👍 When you are done connecting and and amp assigning, do you need to run audyssey again? And also, would it make sence to buy the A5, A7 instead of the A3. Im thinking the A3 has more power, but if I was to only use the FR, FL and center will they get more or equal the power as the A3? Does my question make sense😬
The short answer to your question is yes but not that much more. The higher up the Emotiva basX ladder you go, the lower power you get. The upside of going for a higher model is saving space & money. The downside is the power cap which will be especially noticeable if you have a not so efficient set of speakers. My recommendation would be to go for a modular setup. Use the A3 to power your center channel & surrounds and the A2 to power your front right & left. If you’re on budget, just get the A3 and power your LCR and if you get the A2 in the future, switch to the configuration I suggested above. And let your AVR handle the low load height/atmos speakers. Personally, I have the A3 that Im using to power my Klipsch LCR (RP-6000f ii & RP-504c ii). My Infinity AC fan doesn’t kick off as soon as it used to now. Before, it was running in max speed when watching movies.
Is it possible to hook 5.0 all from my denon 3400h to the a5 ? And if i go with 2 more channels like front highs, can i set them to the denon and the front, center and rear speakers to the emotiva ?
Oh cool! The x3400h must’ve been the last 7 channel AVR Denon offered with a full set of pre outs before only putting that on 9 channel AVRs. 👍 Looking at the manual, it definitely looks like you could do exactly that - use the A5 for your ear-level speakers, and assign the surround back Denon speaker terminals to power your heights. 🤘
Hey Ealan !!! I finally got a BasX 3 Amp from Emotiva. Question if you don't mind, I only have the Sony STR DH-790 which has no Pre Outs, will the Patch cables be good enough to use like you did on the demonstrating here and then plug the speakers obviously on the amp? the Sony doesn't have a Trigger in or out so I guess I have to turn the amp on seperately. Hope you can answer if you have chance. Understand you're busy. Maybe someone can answer for me here somehow. Editing this...Ealan also I just realized that the Patch cable I'll need for the receiver will have to be different end to end cause the reciever only has speaker type connection with banana or press clips ( I guess they call it that) cause I won't be able to connect it in the way you showed in the video? Is there still a WAY? Are there patch cables that have 2 different ends? I don't think I can plug the patch cable to the AUDIO CD/DVD/Bluray/TV/CATV RCA connection. Apologize for the questions , but I don't know what to exactly do and I don't have the money to get a Denon or $1,000+ AV receiver. Please help me if you don't mind.
Yeah, I'm sorry, man...using an external amp only works with the more expensive AVRs with a full set of pre-outs. 😬 That's how external amps work - the (RCA) patch cables take the audio signal away before it gets to the AVR's internal amp, sends it to the external amp, which then sends the externally powered signal to the speakers. There used to be 7 channel amps that had a full set of pre-outs, but that's just not the case anymore. I do apologize that you're in this situation, but it's the truth. Either you wait it out until you can save up for an AVR with a full set of pre-outs, or maybe just return the BasX A3 and try again later when you can get both a BasX A3 and a $1,000+ AVR. 😕
Perhaps a strange question but can you also connect the subwoofer to the Emotiva amp ? Also strangely enough the BasX A6 is cheaper then the BasX A5 .. Don't know if it's a typo on the emotiva eu site but the A6 says this " 90 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms " and the A5 this " • 95 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms " So it's like the A5 has more watts per channel when all channels are driven... i just saw it's on sale when i go to the normal emotiva site i guess the eu site doesn't mention this.
Passive subwoofers require power from a separate amp, yes. But most consumer grade subs are active, meaning they have their own amp inside the cabinet, connected to an AVR via RCA patch cable. And the A6 may be less than the A5 since it’s not selling as well? 🤷♂️ 6 is kind of an odd number for home theater setups.
If you do indeed only have a 5 channel setup then you should select the pre amplifier mode. Even with pre outs being used the internal amps in the AVR are still engaged, with the pre amp mode it actually turns off all internal amps and might provide even more separation. Just something to try, anyways great video. You sir have earned another subscriber👍
Could you explain this more? I currently have the A3 and am waiting for rz50 to set up a 7.2.4 atmos. You are suggesting to use the avr in preamp mode?
You don't have any load connected to the internal amps, it's just an open circuit when you're only using the preouts. How is the receiver gonna send any power to the internal amps and how will you get any more separation?
Just got mine hooked up and watched some of The Book ofBoba Fett and Shang-Chi fight scene. And totally new experience! Although the voice in Boba Fett were kinda faint . I think this is a Disney issue or maybe I need to completely recalibrate my system in the Marantz settings. Regardless what a ear opening experience!! Well worth the time and cost.
This amp is 95 watts (8ohms) X 5 = 475 watts distributed over 5 channels. So with only two Chanel’s driven (for playing music) will the power to the two speakers be around 272 watts per stereo channel?
It actually does give you that info in the detailed specs online. It gives you all channels driven first, then 2 channels driven below it, which it says outputs 120 watts per channel. So the math doesn’t exactly work like you would think it does. Go figure. 🤷♂️
What if I use an adapter with my no preout amp and go straight from speaker out to amp. Do I lose quality? Denon 760 to left center right ultra. Also have 4 hight. Do I upgrade avr 1st or can I just adapt into amp now upgrade avr later?
I wish emotiva would bring back that entry level processor that paired with these amps. it would be nice to build a stack that wasnt much more taller than the receiver. honestly thats why i dont have separates due to lack of real estate.
I keep seeing mention of an upcoming Basx processor on the horizon. I don’t know if you follow the Emotiva page on Facebook but you should keep an eye out there
Would you say that the external amp made your Denon 4700 sound much more expensive for example like an $2000 - $3000 avr. And also I was wondering if the sound of the subwoofer improved. I know it has its own amplification but because the processing on the 4700 improved I am thinking it might send better signal to the subwoofer. Thank you.
I would say yes, I made it sound more expensive (given that external amps cost additional money, so technically they do make it more expensive 😄), but yes! The way in which it brought out details I hadn’t heard before so clearly, you could say it made it sound like an AVR that costs much more! And no…didn’t really improve the subwoofer experience since it’s not really tied to the AVR’s internal amp performance. But I’m sure I could improve the subwoofer experience with a miniDSP and reworking REW if I wanted to. Trust me, there’s ALWAYS room for improvement on subwoofers. It’s a science all in and of itself. 😳🤘
@@ealanosborne Hi once again thank you for answering. Did it also make your speakers sound fuller and bigger in scale. Accordind to reviewers, with the Emotiva Basx amps the detail and seperation is there but I dont seem to remember anyone talking about the scale of the sound and how much more room filling these amps can be.
Hey Ealan, I have 5.2.2 setup with Denon 4400h. Planning to get A3 from ur link. May I know what settings to choose to power up LCR? (Amp assign and settings to select) If I cannot externally power the front stage then no point getting A3. Having rp280f's and rp450c in my front stage.
Yes, you can power your LCR with a BasX A3. Within the Denon's software it's a bit tricky, though. Not like how you would think at first: In the Amp Assign page, choose 11.1, for Floor speakers, choose 5ch+SB. Height channels choose 4ch to max out the Denon's internal amps and engage the pre out section. In the pre out section, choose Front to have your L/R speakers powered externally. Then go back to the previous menu page and go into Speaker Config. In there, you would select front speakers, center, 2 subwoofers, 2 surrounds, surround back "none," Front height to 2, and Rear Height to "none." So basically you're telling the software to assign a 7.2.4 setup, but then selecting a Speaker Config of 5.2.2. Pretty weird, but that's just how it works. :) I hope that makes sense! When the time comes, check out my video on Atmos configurations. I don't specifically go over a 5.2.2 setup with an external amp, but it should help. ruclips.net/video/7n8R4b_zrq0/видео.html
Hi, thanks for the reply. L/R speakers powered as you have mentioned. But I don't see an option to select center channel to power externally? Even if I use the pre out of Center channel, will the denon internal amps draw power for the center channel(active)?
@@balajis7719 No. Front L/R are the only pre outs in your case that need to be assigned. All other pre outs (including center) will just be "on" and ready for a signal if you plug an RCA cable into its corresponding pre out port. And since an RCA cable would be plugged into your center, that disengages the internal amp for the center channel.
I know on the Denon you can Pre out the front 3. Is it possible to pre out the front 3 and side and rear surrounds. i already have a BasX A3. Im thinking of getting the A4 for the 4 surround speakers.
@@89JAEH Sweet! Okay, yeah, you can definitely add an A4 to power the rest of your surrounds no problem, especially since the x4300h has 2 trigger outputs, so both amps can react when the x4300h turns on or off. 🤘
Does the five channel amp automatically recognize if the receiver is outputting pure-direct audio in only two channels? Will it bridge the power and shut off the lights of the channels not receiving signals.?
I have a Sony 3100ES, I’m looking for at least a 2 channel amp so I may run rear atmos. Do these Amps really sound that much better than what the AVRs offer? Should I just go to the 5 channel you reviewed?
It's not exactly the amp that sounds better, it's just that the amp assisting with the power management of the speakers translates to the receiver being able to process audio better, which results in finer details coming to the forefront that were kind of hidden before. So yeah, if you could afford it, go for an A5 or A7, because any amount of tag-teaming between an amp and a receiver results in some killer audio processing. 👍
You might wanna try setting them to Large or full bandwidth first. You might like that, since they’re beefy tower speakers. Otherwise, I’d try 50-60 Hz, depending on what your AVR can set as a crossover frequency. 👍
@@ealanosborne Cant afford the Emotiva right now (still paying off my rz50) is there any econimal, cheap suggestions I could do until I save up for Emotiva?
That's how I felt when I replaced my 20 year old Pioneer ElitE receiver with my new Anthem MRX 740. I've been re-watching hundreds of movies and loving every minute of it. I'm waiting for the BasX A4 to be back in stock so I can power four PSB Imagine XA Atmos speakers. The MRX 740 only has seven powered channels (ouch!). I plan to let the AVR power my bed level speakers as it has proven itself a good performer.
Yeah, I’ve always thought that was a bit unique with the MRX 740 only having 7 internal amps, but being able to process so much more than that! Like an AVR/Preamp hybrid. But I’ve heard nothing but people raging about how incredible the Anthem sound is. 🙌 Hopefully those A4s are back in stock ASAP!
Have you aver experienced separate setup? I am interested, if going pros + amp will give even more detail and better Chanel separation. Or the result will be + / - like receiver + amp
Clearly, there is a significant increase in sound quality with the A5. Can you share if the overall LOUDNESS increased as well, in particular from your front LCR sound stage?
@@ealanosborne Hi Ealan, Thank you for responding. I'm glad to hear that you were able to notice a difference in the loudness once you started using the A5. In my setup, I have some entry level B&W speakers (600 series) and when I used them in a smaller room in my previous home, they sounded great. But now my setup is in a much LARGER room and I find that the loudness factor is struggling with my Denon X6300h. It's good to know that if I were (for example) to invest in an A3, I could look forward to enjoying not only better sound quality, but a louder sound experience than before. Or as you replied, you don't have to turn up the volume as much as you had to before. Either way, it sounds like these BasX A series external amps really do make a difference.
@@keyzone72 Yes! I’ve been there before, moving into a larger space to deal with a home theater. Dude. I just stumbled on your channel doing research on this amp. Liked and subscribed. Ima save this one for when my wife will inevitably ask (cue the Marge Simpson voiceover) “why do you need this thing anyway? Does’t it work without it?” Thanks man!!
How loud do you watch your movies? My AVR is -30 dB from reference (7.1.2 SVS Prime and Onkyo TX-RZ730), so thats pretty low. Will I still notice a difference in sound?
I don't listen to mine too loud because my ears are basically my career now. I think you'll still notice a difference in attack and response times and clarity of all the layers of sound that are intended to be heard with proper power distribution.
Hi my friend i have a arcam avr 10 with a emotiva a5 what is the best set up for 5.1.4 left right and center and soround on the emotiva or all atmos on the emotiva? Thanks
Hi Jose! Since your Atmos effects are going to be more subtle and atmospheric and intermittent, I would power your LCR and surrounds with the A5. Any receiver, no matter which brand, will perform better when the job of powering speakers is done by an external amp. 🤘
In a home theatre system, why do some folks concentrate on just the front soundstage?? Seems to me that the surround speakers need some love too! I'm settling in on the A5, I think.
Eh, just because the front soundstage is the most active, comparatively. But I get it! The most ideal speaker setup would be having the same exact speaker all around you! But typically that’s not feasible due to size, placement issues or budget. So yeah! Make the most out of your surrounds! 😎🎉
Ealaaaaaaan!!! another good video. Yeah, I've been thinking of getting an BasX A2. Do you think it's good enough? Or the A3 for the Fronts and the Center? I'm on a Budget. I totally get what your saying about letting the External amp do alot of the load for the AVR. Still happy with my Sony AVR 790 and Klipsch reference and Klipsch R41 Bookshelves. I still don't know if I have my Reciever adjusted right for my speakers. I've been lazy lately on reading the book lol. Plus been busy with work and stuff. BTW, you ever watch youtube cheapaudioman? I like his stuff too. He got me on the Sony SSCS-5 Bookshelve speakers. thanks Ealan for another great video and nice home you got there.
I got the Basx A2 to drive the front speakers which are ML 60xts which are rated 4ohms. My receiver which is the Marantz SR7013 drives the center and surround speakers. I would have got the A3 but it would have been a waste power to use the Marantz to only drive the surrounds. Without a doubt I will say that the A2 is really great with producing the sound of my favorite go to test dvd which is the Hobbit - Battle of Five Armies.
In the uk the a5 is $920 (£ 720) I'm unsure weather to buy this or "upgrade " my denon 3700 for an additional £1000 to either the 6700 or marantz 8015 . ( trade in offer) what do you think will give best audio upgrade? @@ferrisburgh802

Hi Ealan, I have heard of discrepancies in the specs published on the website for the BasX amps vs on the included manual with the actual amp. Could you kindly share the specs of all amps listed in the included manual you've received with your A5 please?
Oh, I hadn't heard of that! Interesting! Although I had to send back the A5 once I was done reviewing it, otherwise I'd look at the manual with my own eyes right now! Sorry!
@@ealanosborne thanks for your reply mate. I'm having the worst ever sales and customer service from Emotiva! I ordered an A3 on 26th July and still they haven't shipped it in a month. When I started questioning them one of the sales rep suggested me to cancel the order or get the A5 which according to her would give out similar wattage output! "Breanna says: A5- 140 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms. 200 watts RMS per channel; 1 kHz; THD < 1%; into 4 Ohms. The Power will be similar, but not more." (Website says different.) Then she goes on... Breanna says: Hello Dewan, We can cancel your order if you'd like?
@@dewansyeem Whoa, sorry for the rough customer service experience, mate! I’ve only had positive experiences so far from them! And yeah, those specs given to you over the phone are what the A3 is rated, not the A5, which is rated 95 watts per channel. 🤷♂️ But as I mentioned in my review of the A5, it’s not exactly just power ratings that matter. Any receiver will greatly benefit from using external amps to power your speakers. That’s why it still sounding better when I used the A5, regardless of power ratings. So there’s that? 😄 I dunno…just my opinion, though. Sorry again for your experience so far. I do know that A3 always sells out almost immediately when it’s back in stock.
Great video as I’m thinking of diving into external amps for the first time. Any idea how the XPA compares in sound quality to the BasX? The BasX price point almost seems too good to be true. I know the XPA offers balanced outputs. I’m more interested in sound quality of the two. Thanks
Yeah, the XPA line will definitely sound better. More power, and balanced outputs will have such a clean signal. So if it’s in your budget, go for it. But the BasX line is easy on the wallet if you didn’t want to spend too much. It does the job for the price, and then some. But the XPA line is expensive for a reason. Just a whole new level of amp. 👍
@@ealanosborne I’ve happy with the “sound” of my pioneer elite sc-05. Will the BasX or XPA alter the sound I’m used to or simply make it “better” more detailed sonically? Thanks
Excellent job! Subbed! You definitely deserve more subs. I'm looking to grab one of these as I have a X6700H powering an 11 channel atmos set up with older B&W's. Will this be a good fit?
@@ealanosborne thank you so much but not why I brought it up Ealan. It's mostly TV's and what I call Tech Therapy. I find Audio to be a very deep rabbit hole which can get nuts and I truly appreciate the help.
Hello After watching your video, I’m considering either the Emotiva Bassx A3 or the A5. I can see A3 will provide my front stage great power where I feel I’m starved. The A5 will assist the rear surrounds but at a lesser wattage. Do you mind providing me your professional opinion on which one I should purchase? My Home Theatre All Klipcsh Speakers Front height pair - RP 500 Middle height pair - R 40 Rear surround pair - R 40 Center channel speaker - RP 504C Front Floor Speakers - R 800 Sub Woofers - Two - R115 SW AVR Dennon AVR-4800H Powering all except the subs.
I think you could get away with an A5, since a) you have all Klipsch speakers which are notoriously sensitive and typically don’t need a ton of power to get loud, and 2) the R40 and R800F speakers don’t need much power as it is since they are the Reference Series. I’d say you’d need more power if ALL your speakers were Reference Premiere Series speakers, like your center channel, just for future reference. 😊 But the A5 should do well with your current system. 🎉
Hi Ealone, Do you have any opinion on replacing my Dennon AVR 4800H? Even though it’s a few years old, I still like how easy it is to utilize and I like the software set up. I’ve also put several HEOS speakers throughout my house and garage. Just wondering what your professional opinion might be since this receiver is becoming somewhat dated. Perhaps I can just stick with the plan of obtaining the A5, and later upgrading to a different Dennon or Marantz in the years to come. Your logical thoughts would be appreciated.
@@rubjim2 The x4800H should last you many many years, considering it supports HDMI 2.1, 8K video signals, Dirac Live (if you wanna pay extra), a full set of pre outs, and up to 4 subwoofers. It is extremely future proof. So yes, I would invest in external amps at this point, slowly acquiring more over time so that ALL of your speakers can be powered externally. At that point, I think you’d really only need to upgrade the AVR if you want to go bigger than 7.4.4. 👍
Question: The pre-amp setup is confusing. Why is there an option when the pre-outs are live anyway? Asking because I just got Basx3 for my Marantz 8015 and wanted to amp the front stage (L, C, R) of course there isn't a 3 pre-out option. But the pre-outs are live so...
In the video linked below, I go over that, because it IS confusing, I know! 😄 Preamp mode is great, but it’s all or nothing. Kinda weird, but great if you’re powering ALL your speakers with external amps. Check out the vid for a breakdown: ruclips.net/video/7n8R4b_zrq0/видео.html

Well done 👍
Thanks, man! Took some time on this one. 😄 And yeah, I was surprised how much of a difference it made without being complete separates. 🙌
I have an SR6011. Does the Marantz run completely cool now?
@@stevenschwartzstein4502 I never noticed it getting hot before going to the separates, but it definitely doesn't get warm now. So if your SR6011 is getting warm/hot, then I would imagine this would help.
Thank you for this video.I just bought the Bassx A 5.I like many others thought it was just about more power.
Duuuuude, right?! It’s the subtle things that are now so noticeable! And yeah…as far as the wife is concerned, my lips are SEALED! 🤐😄

Is this really a big difference ? I mean, really ?
I have the Denon AVR-4400H and bought the XPA5 which is just on another level from the receiver's built in amps. Sounds way better on music and movies. BassX A4 for 4 overhead height speakers and way more detailed too. Enjoy 🎯

Thank you so much for your anecdote! What a system you have! 🤘
I just ordered the BasX A5 to compliment Pioneer Elite 505 9.2 channels. I’m excited.
Questions!!! When I buy a new Av receiver and emotiva! Before I set up the receiver calibration does the emotiva need to be hooked up first? Thanks 😊
Calibrate after hooking everything up. When you introduce any changes to the equipment or the placement of the speakers, always calibrate.
The Marantz SR5013, 14, &15 Have 7 channels and preouts for all. Many other 7 channel amps have preouts for front right and left channels.

Now a quick question, which Emotiva would you recommend for my 5.2.1 setup? Should I use any power from my Onkyo Rz820 AVR power or just go all the way with the 7 channel Emotiva?
Thanks in advance for your input 🤘
Wow! Thanks so much for the compliments! Doing the best I can with trying to stand out from the crowd. 😀
As far as the Emotiva, now that I’ve experienced supplementing an AVR’s power with an ext amp, I’m a big fan of alleviating as much of the AVR’s power as possible.
So yeah, I would get the A7 to power all speakers, to allow the AVR to just be a processor. Sharing the load like that opens up everything and power distribution is fantastic. 🤘🙌
@@ealanosborne Thank you very much for the input 🤘👌
I will do just that! 👍
It may be a software limitation in which when you DO use an external amp, you have to at LEAST power your Rear Heights with your BasX A5.
That’s correct! And yes, it will improve your front soundstage for both music and home theater! 🤘

Great review! Im rethinking the A3 now and considering the A5 so that I know the full bed layer is as defined as it can be, clean 95w rms should be plenty... but this has made me NEED this upgrade, when I thought I only wanted it... so thanks 👍😅
Haha! You’re welcome? 😄 Yeah these were just on loan, so I’m dreading having to go back to 9 internal amps with my Onkyo again. So LAME! 🤣
My opinion: Get the A7 for 5 channel instead as it:
1. Has a 1000w psu allowing for "200w per channel" vs "140w" with the A5's 700w psu. This provides more headroom for each amp, especially for dynamic bursts.
2. Larger heatsink to dissipate the heat better
3. The logic? board is moved to the rear of the chassis further away from the amp board which may help lower and EMI between the two, and it has it's own cooling fan.
Hell yeah, dude! Taking away the need to amplify a signal from your SR6014 makes EVERYTHING else work better. 🎉🤘
@@ealanosborne Thank you
Thanks, I know it’s an old video, but convinced me to get the A3 to use for my front stage.
Thank you for the kind words. Truly appreciate it. 😎
@@stevencouto3025 I agree! 🙌
@@ealanosborne A3s back in stock. Got both it and the A4 ordered. Shipping cost to Canada = Brutal!
@@stevencouto3025 I hearted this not because of the shipping, but because they’re back in stock. 😄🙌
Would you say for movies Denon avrx4700 with Basx A5 sounds better than Arcam, Anthem and Nad AVRs using their internal amps.
Best video out there! Subscribed.
Thank you!!! 🤘
brilliantly hilarious- have a similar set up as yours and just ordered the BASX A5
Niiiice! 🎉
Oh wow! Those look legit! I haven’t gotten my hands on them, but now I want to! 🤘
I’m thinking pre-amp is the way to
I won’t be adding anymore speakers can’t have sides because of windows -

Yeah I think the x3700h becomes the best processor it can be when not having to deal with ANY application itself. So yes, I think your ultimate goal is to get to using it in “preamp” mode where all internal amps are off, and all speakers are powered externally. 👍
@@ealanosborne thanks , I’m running speaker cables today so they all go down the LHS of my wall to land at the emotive - thanks again, enjoy your content , 👍☘️🏴
Picked up a5 been seating for weeks but will hook it up this week
great details… thanks for the video!
Lemme know if this helps!

Thanks! Making this one was a doozy. 😄 I’m excited for your A3 arrival! 🙌
Anyway, your review was good and useful for me. I was already thinking of parasoung A52+ or something, but if a simple Emotiva BasX is this big a step from the AVR's built-in amps, it might be more than enough for me too. Thanks.
Hi Ealan, great videos. Thank you. Can you make a video on wireless home theatre like the Sony HT A9, Bose lifestyle 650…
I hope to have some hookups with Bose and Sony soon, but until then, I can’t exactly afford to buy them outright just for reviewing purposes. Some day though! 😄🤘
Thank u for including the amp assign on the Denon menu. You got a new subscriber.
You're very welcome!
But also…
2) The A5 is rated at 120 wpc into 8 ohms with 2 channels driven, and 95 wpc into 8 ohms with 5 channels driven, so driving only 3 should be somewhere in between. 🎉
I only made it 2 min in and your the man. Great intro bro

Hi,
I want to upgrade my system with Emotiva BasX A3, with my Denon AVR-X4700H & Polk Reserve R600 & R400 for my front stage. Is this combination will be right for me to improve the sound quality, dynamics & shifting the load off from AVR that will improve the surround speakers R100 & Atmos speakers performance.
What is Your advice, your suggestion will be great help for me.
Yes, it will help improve performance for your x4700h! And an A3 for your front stage is a great place to start! 👍
@@ealanosborne Thanks for your guidance & replying back...👍🏼
I want to purchase an BasX A3...my question is will my Onkyo RZ50's preouts have enough power to drive the A3, and how do you determine the preout wattage...or how much preout wattage is needed to drive power amplifers.
I enjoy your videos. Informative and very creative. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much!
I got the A3 and it is decent, but has a nasty pop when it powers up. Also under heavy load the fans are loud.
Are you using the trigger cable that came with Emotiva amp? If yes, use the one that came with the AVR. This should solve the pop noise problem.
@@ealanosborne thank you Ealan. I appreciate it. I'll just wait til I get a better AVR. I'm sure I can get one under a thousand somehow
Perhaps a strange question but can you also connect the subwoofer to the Emotiva amp ? Also strangely enough the BasX A6 is cheaper then the BasX A5 .. Don't know if it's a typo on the emotiva eu site but the A6 says this " 90 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms " and the A5 this " • 95 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms "
So it's like the A5 has more watts per channel when all channels are driven... i just saw it's on sale when i go to the normal emotiva site i guess the eu site doesn't mention this.
Yes! That’s a fantastic idea! Once I can afford it, I’m definitely going to have enough amps to select preamp mode. 👍 And thanks for the sub! 🎉
I'm going to do this once I get my A5. I screenshot this convo. I want more information on exactly how to do this
Could you explain this more?

Go figure. 🤷♂️
@@ealanosborne thanks for letting me know! Indeed the answer was right under my nose. Much appreciated Ealan!
Hey Ealan, I have 5.2.2 setup with Denon 4400h. Planning to get A3 from ur link. May I know what settings to choose to power up LCR? (Amp assign and settings to select)
If I cannot externally power the front stage then no point getting A3. Having rp280f's and rp450c in my front stage.
Yes, you can power your LCR with a BasX A3. Within the Denon's software it's a bit tricky, though. Not like how you would think at first:
In the Amp Assign page, choose 11.1, for Floor speakers, choose 5ch+SB. Height channels choose 4ch to max out the Denon's internal amps and engage the pre out section. In the pre out section, choose Front to have your L/R speakers powered externally.
Then go back to the previous menu page and go into Speaker Config. In there, you would select front speakers, center, 2 subwoofers, 2 surrounds, surround back "none," Front height to 2, and Rear Height to "none."
So basically you're telling the software to assign a 7.2.4 setup, but then selecting a Speaker Config of 5.2.2. Pretty weird, but that's just how it works. :) I hope that makes sense!
When the time comes, check out my video on Atmos configurations. I don't specifically go over a 5.2.2 setup with an external amp, but it should help.

Is it possible for me to use my old Yamaha 673 to power my front stage, or is it too old. I do have pre outs on my AV receiver.

Ugh…the Anthem 740 doesn’t have Auro 3D. There’s always a catch with every setup.
I was about to order the cables in the video, but seems like they’re out of stock. With these do?
BJC Coaxial Digital Audio Cable
Honestly, I’ve even gotten great results from these basic RCA patch cables 🤷♂️

Have you aver experienced separate setup? I am interested, if going pros + amp will give even more detail and better Chanel separation. Or the result will be + / - like receiver + amp
I have an x3800h. It has one pair of front pre-outs. How can I bi-amp the BASX A5? Or its automatically does it's job? thanks
You need an RCA Y-splitter. But I also made a video about it! 😁👇

thanks for the fast answer, and great vids 😉
Clearly, there is a significant increase in sound quality with the A5. Can you share if the overall LOUDNESS increased as well, in particular from your front LCR sound stage?
Correct. It made it louder, in that I didn’t have to turn up the main volume as loud as usual, and yet I could still hear everything more clearly. 🤘
@@ealanosborne Hi Ealan,
Thank you for responding.
You might even want to look into the OSD Nero XA3200 amp, since it’s almost the same price as the BasX A3, and has a little more power to feed into your B&W 600 speakers? 🤷♂️ Just a thought.

Nice review. I like your personal touch!
Thank you very much! Trying to put a unique style to the home theater and audio sector. 😀🤘
Dude. I just stumbled on your channel doing research on this amp. Liked and subscribed. Ima save this one for when my wife will inevitably ask (cue the Marge Simpson voiceover) “why do you need this thing anyway? Does’t it work without it?” Thanks man!!
Thanks for the Marge Simpson prompt - I could hear her voice so clearly. 😄🤘
@@ealanosborne ok thanks for answering. I will have to think about getting an external amp for my setup, not sure if it is worth it
What brand of audio cables do you use to link the BasX to the Denon please?
Great product I enjoy the video clip. Will it on Apple tv when I watching a movie? Cheers
He got me on the Sony SSCS-5 Bookshelve speakers. thanks Ealan for another great video and nice home you got there.
why not go with the A3 if you can afford it
@@bigboots6114 yeah was thinking of that. Its says its temporarily unavailable. But yeah I think that's what I'll do when they have it
I got the Basx A2 to drive the front speakers which are ML 60xts which are rated 4ohms.
@@ferrisburgh802 why would it be a waste?
In the uk the a5 is $920 (£ 720) I'm unsure weather to buy this or "upgrade " my denon 3700 for an additional £1000 to either the 6700 or marantz 8015 . ( trade in offer) what do you think will give best audio upgrade? @@ferrisburgh802
Great video, just wanted to point out that you can use a receiver without pre outs utilizing speaker level to line line level interface(s). There are RUclips videos on their use.
Thanks for the heads up!
i've a question regarding xpa 11 gen 3 there's a noise coming out from the power supply during operating the amp and also during standby but while standby mode noise little higher then amp on, is that normal or what shall i do to avoid this noise hope Ealan Osborne to reply me ASAP.
Dude! Great review! You gotta revisit Phantom Menace!
"Breanna says:
A5- 140 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms.
200 watts RMS per channel; 1 kHz; THD < 1%; into 4 Ohms.
The Power will be similar, but not more." (Website says different.)
Then she goes on...
Breanna says:
Hello Dewan, We can cancel your order if you'd like?
@@dewansyeem Whoa, sorry for the rough customer service experience, mate! I’ve only had positive experiences so far from them! And yeah, those specs given to you over the phone are what the A3 is rated, not the A5, which is rated 95 watts per channel. 🤷♂️
But as I mentioned in my review of the A5, it’s not exactly just power ratings that matter.
Just ordered an Emotiva BasX A5 Black 😊
Hooray! 🎉 Congrats on the upgrade!
Really enjoy your style of presentation.
Thanks
@@bluesteblue7822 It shouldn’t add any coloration to it much. Just share the load and bring out the best in your Pioneer. 👍
Excellent job! Subbed! You definitely deserve more subs. I'm looking to grab one of these as I have a X6700H powering an 11 channel atmos set up with older B&W's. Will this be a good fit?
Hell yeah! Even the powerful x6700h still benefits from sharing any speaker powering load with an external amp. Do it! 😄 And thanks for the sub! 🤘

Hello
After watching your video, I’m considering either the Emotiva Bassx A3 or the A5. I can see A3 will provide my front stage great power where I feel I’m starved. The A5 will assist the rear surrounds but at a lesser wattage. Do you mind providing me your professional opinion on which one I should purchase?
My Home Theatre
All Klipcsh Speakers
Front height pair - RP 500
Middle height pair - R 40
Rear surround pair - R 40
Center channel speaker - RP 504C
Front Floor Speakers - R 800
Sub Woofers - Two - R115 SW
AVR
Dennon AVR-4800H Powering all except the subs.
Hi Ealone,
Do you have any opinion on replacing my Dennon AVR 4800H?
Check out the vid for a breakdown:

The Amp should be less equal or higher power than the receiver?? I have a 120watts outlaw5K model 5 channels working together with Onkyo RZ-840,both has 120 watts per channel, should I go A3? 140watts per channel? I will fell the difference?? Thanks!!
A5 Emotiva BasX, does it come with a remote control. Thanks.
No. It's strictly an amp, so volume is controlled by the AVR that it is connected to.
