The "why not" question is ridiculous. You don't ask someone why they don't wear a bracelet either. You only ask "why" questions if someone is doing something out of the ordinary towards their body, not why they keep their body the way it is in the first place.

Some people want tattoos with a ton of meaning. Other people see them as a scrapbook. I have 6 tattoos right now. I don't think any of them are so meaningful that they will always be my favorite design, but they all make me remember something that at one point was important to me. I have a matching tattoo with a friend, one for a band I've gone to all the stops of their tour, and one that one kf those band members drew for me. These aren't as meaningful as a family member's name, but they remind me of a good time or something I cared about at one point. It's a memory I can't lose because it is printed on me

He meant because they’re so common these days. It used to be more rare to see & now it’s more rare to find a natural body.
What's more unique than being able to instantly recognise your body parts even if some sicko chopped you up and scattered you? Lol if somebody did that to me and all they found was a leg or an arm or something there would still be no doubt that I was the victim. DNA tests unnecessary, no dental analysis required. My tattoos would give my family closure because they'd know what happened to me. But if an untattooed person gets hacked up and scattered they might never be identified because they look generic. Dark way to look at it, but am I wrong? Tattoos are identifying features. Its very rare to find 2 people with 100% identical tattoos. So in that way, they do make you unique.
Same with if somebody were to rob you and they have purple hair in a particular style versus a guy with generic medium brown dad hair. Who do you think is going to be caught first? Its the same principle. The more unique your look is, the more identifiable you are. Even if lots of people follow that trend (like having purple hair or getting tattoos in general) they still make up a minority of society and are rarely exactly the same. So i really don't understand the argument that you're more unique if you don't have tats.
