Kaiser’s business model incentivises keeping costs down. Doctors are rewarded for not ordering tests or other expensive treatments. (This comes from a lawyer for medical practices in CA.) Both of my parents died as a result of malpractice by Kaiser doctors. A dermatologist cut into a growth on my mom’s head. He emailed her to say that the tumour was malignant, but he got it all and no need for follow up. When it hadn’t healed after a couple of months my mom saw her usual dermatologist (she had had many skin cancers) who immediately referred her to a surgeon for referral to the Tumour Board. The surgeon thought she was too old to pursue surgery, so didn’t refer her on to the Tumour Board. She had radiation and chemotherapy before finally agreeing to see the Tumour Board at our urging. By then it was too late. Meanwhile my father was losing weight and mentioning back pain. After my mom passed away he continued to ask various doctors he saw for other issues about the pain he was experiencing. This was unusual. He was hospitalised for loss of continence and pain and one doctor pursued the problem. His previously treated prostate cancer had returned and spread. We then discovered that his doctor hadn’t been monitoring his prostate with regular blood tests - a standard procedure after prostate cancer. I researched suing Kaiser after my parents’ deaths because they received below standard care. Hardly anyone wins such lawsuits. I’m happy that this lady did. Kaiser needs to be sued more and they need to lose more.
@Karen Carpenter Providence bought all the hospitals in Northern California where I live a couple of years ago. Maybe you believe Kaiser will now buy out Providence in California? Do you know how many hospitals that is?
@Karen Carpenter there are no Kaiser hospitals near me in California so it would be impossible to tell medi cal and Medicare patients they could only go there. You might be hearing that they will start to accept that insurance now because they would not before but that is not what “taking over” means.
@@SteveinSanFrancisco sepsis is Not a sniffle if they catch it early it can be cured in some cases. Look up RUclips videos of sepsis and people who survived yet to do do doctors had to amputate arms and legs. Sepsis kills many people however.
Had they been Black or Brown people she would not have even won. The argument would have been, if you were in that much pain, why didn't you call an ambulance, go on in after the call. Fact is, Kaiser has a Walk in Acute Care Emergency. She had a damn good Attorney to win this + money. WOW. Had he been black, his toxicology, mental health, underlying medical, would have been front & center. WOW
I've known some Kaiser doctors. They didn't take their own wives or children to Kaiser, even though they were fully insured by Kaiser. That, folks, says it all.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm extremely happy that you were successful in Your lawsuit. We must start holding the healthcare industry liable for its cost-saving measures when it comes to human life.
That's the american country for you . Its all about capitalism and making as much money as possible with helping the patients as little as possible for these hospitals. The american health care system is a joke.
As a doctor I can tell you anytime a patient calls I just them to go to ER. Because there is absolutely no way I can assess someone over the phone in any way shape or form.
My sister went to Kaiser because she was Ill. Doctors wanted to send her home. She asked for X-ray because she believed she had pneumonia. Doctor declined her request repeatedly saying it wasn’t pneumonia. She insisted on having an X-ray and they gave her major attitude. They finally gave in to her demand and what do you know, indeed it was pneumonia.
My son had back pain I was denied X-rays from emergency room, he got worse and they wouldn’t do anything until finally I was able to have a dr listen and do bloodwork and mri, then I got a call to get him to the nearest emergency room he has a bone infection and abscess on his spine, I fought Kaiser for 3 months! And now they can’t tell me what’s wrong or what happened they are treating him for infectious and non infectious disease, tomorrow he has iv transfusion and I’m scared to death! He’s 16 and I wonder if someone would of listened earlier could this of been avoided, they say he will have back pain for the rest of his life.. I’m so sad and angry

Be strong. Kaiser kills....and this is the first win ive heard of...so congrats to you. And sympathies to your family. Lost my mom to gross negligence at kaiser. The dr in charge- his punishment was a transfer to another facility. Thank you for sharing your story
Lost my Dad from this 2 months ago. He also had Kaiser! They kept sending him home after months of going in and out due to EARLY SYMPTOMS. His cause of death SEPSIS.
Sorry for your loss but this is similar to what happen to my grandmother. Sent home several times then it was too late. That’s why I pay for ppo and pick my doctors
@@tinhman408PPO have resorted in messy medical malpractice you still have to be your number 1 advocate, and get as many opinions as possible, even though you have the same insurance as I do, with that PPO!
I gave birth to my second child in 2007 and kept telling my doctor my stomach looks funny and hurts. I knew something was wrong but the doctor wouldn't listen. Finally i went to another doctor and had emergency surgery to repair my stomach muscle which was torn in half from my pregnancy. I do not trust Kaiser hospital at all. Glad i went to another doctor
I'm so so sorry for your loss..I have a malpractice issue with Kaiser as well..I don't know we're to start with my complaint..But hopefully this message can help bring awareness that Kaiser has unsafe policies and should be held accountable for the pain and trauma they leave it's patients and there family after receiving care from them.. is there is a petition a lawyer or anyone with a voice I could contact?? Our stories need to be heard.
At Kaiser Permanente even if you go to the emergency, they tell you it's not serious go home. They don't believe you unless they see you almost dying. Sorry for your loss.
In Singapore a friend's sister had sepsis and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. An operation, a week in intensive care and 2 in a regular ward; her bill was just under $1,300. We need universal healthcare. Not "how much can the HMO/insurance company make by denying people service" care. This couple looked so loving and should have been enjoying their marriage for many more years.
Congratulations! We support this amazing widow who has fought for both their rights and for proper professional health care! He would be SO PROUD of you. So are we!
I wish I had her attorneys when my husband passed away. My husband passed away due to his primary doctor not sending him to a cardiologist. I miss him every day ❤️
One of my frustrations with Kaiser is just this. You are sick with a respiratory illness, call the advice nurse and get offered a phone call. How can a doctor evaluate your lungs over the phone? One time I had to take loved one to ER after begging the medical assistant to let us see the doctor.
My whole life I have heard horror stories that happened to patients from Kaiser. They are never held accountable. I'm so glad they were for this case. I'm sorry for your loss and all the others that Kaiser has done to people.
I always tell people who ask bc having 26+ yrs RN experience & having worked as a travel RN at 5 different KP facilities, KP is FINE for young, healthy outpatient/clinic & same day healthcare. Once you have to go to inpatient & long term care, gtfo if you want good outcomes.
I HAVE to tell about my Kaiser experience... years ago...I was just feeling SO sick...I went to the doctor at Kaiser...DR. Livingston...believe it or not...he said, "I have 15 minutes, what can I do for you?" it was so rude...I was shocked. I looked at him and said, "well...you can give me something that I've never been able to get in the fifteen years that I've had Kaiser insurance..." he said, "what's THAT?" I said "A diagnosis..." I never went back
Kaiser in Irvine, CA killed my friend Howard... He broke his femur, and the nurses in ER kept claiming that it wasn't life threatening. Any real doctor or nurse will tell you that it is. It's the only bone in your body you can bleed to death from. They took him forever to get him to the doctor, and when he got to the Doctor even the doctor was ANGRY that the nurses took so damn long. Almost 24 hours they pumped this guy full of morphine, him groaning in pain the entire time. His surgery went well. Good doctor. The post-op nurses were finally the straw that killed him. They didn't read his charts and make sure to treat his diabetes. They didn't record any indication that they gave him fluids. He went into a delirious state from lack of care, and all they did was write in his chart that he had a "history of dementia", which he NEVER had. Not even documents anywhere, but in the bogus record they inputted that very day. When he died, they didn't alert anyone. The family came in with his breakfast, but he was dead. Nurses just stated "Oh. Didn't anyone tell you? He died." The nurses on shift that weekend need to hang their heads in shame. If there is a God, and hell exists, I am sure these nurses have a place in hell. I hope they burn alive.
That is absolutely awful! I don't understand why any state would allow this disgusting institution to operate business knowing they have this kind of blood on their hands.
I hope the family tried suing. I know it is almost like a lost cost against these behemoths of a hospital. Less than 1% ever win. This lady won because her husband was a professional athlete and probably have lot of money and a good lawyer. Maybe try contacting the same lawyer she used.
Same thing happened to my mom. My mom just got diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer, they shouldve confirmed it 15 years ago when she was sent to the onocologist with blood test and radiology but she was cleared.
My friends father passed in the same manner. And he was also an athlete who had a blood infection after his laparoscopy. The hospital nurse ignored his signs. One red flag is purpling on the fingers. If the nurse doesn’t listen go to the charge nurse or nurse administrator
Kaiser is a hospital system, and like any other large system, there are facilities with good hiring and triage practices and hospitals that just drop the ball. Kaiser has been good to me through two high risk pregnancies, but even then, I have learned that I need to advocate for myself, because tired doctors or poor communication with nursing staff can lead to serious issues being overlooked, no matter where you go.
@@nanisteiner9260 Hi. There are only 3 doctors. at Fontana I trust. And they are all in the cardiology department. But Riverside is worse. They sent me to a nuthouse that claimed they take care of covid-19 patients. Basically Kaiser sent me there to die. And that idiot Richard Lewis at Riverside had a telephone conference with my brother and I admitting it.
I am so glad she went after the facility. It is not okay for the way doctors treat patients. I am tired of dealing with lazy, incompetent doctors. These so-called “phone call” assessments are not acceptable. Please accept my life sincerest condolences to his wife and family. The money will not bring him back but maybe it will remind these facilities to take patient complaints more seriously!
I work for Kaiser usually if a patient feels chest discomfort they will be sent to the ED, order chest x-ray & or blood, urine test with the other symptoms he’s having. It would be interesting to see how this particular case was triaged. I’m m sorry for the loss of your husband.
Who know probably the wait killed him. Them damn nurses need to get the fuck to work and stop tryna make their job like a fucking grey anatomy episode 🙄
Not these days... I had chest pain for 3 months after my covid infection, my doctor said it sounded like a bloodclot and i "should keep an eye on it" He was right and it did eventually go away, but I was stunned by the indifference
Kaiser is like this! They forced mom in Hospice care so they can stop treating her. I refused. Shes still here stable at home. 2 years after. I told them i was forced into a DNR and they wont respect my decision to recind it.
Kaiser got a lot of incompetent doctors who can not survive on their own. A month ago, my son hurt his elbow. Kaiser pediatrician ordered X ray, took them many hours and couldn’t figure out what happened and sent us home. We went to see another doctor outside Kaiser and it was diagnosed as nursemaid’s elbow. It took a few arm moves to get my son back to healthy state. This doctor told us if nursemaid’s elbow left not treated immediately, my son’s elbow would swell. Kaiser’s doctor quality is pretty bad.
I am so sorry for your loss. I am so happy that you won against this large medical corporation ! My mother in law was left in pain dying and they refused any pain meds unless she went to the hospital. She was actively dying at home. My head and heart can never shake her last day and I will not forgive the careless and heartless care she received at kaiser. My husband had to leave kaiser to get the care for his heart that he needed. Kaiser left him with a heart working at 18 percent and just kept pumping him full of drugs based on statistics. He left kaiser and recieve the care he needed and his heart is now working at 65 percent all because of a 15 minute procedure.
Bargain shopping your healthcare is a big risk. Most know that Kaiser is geared more for prevention than treatment so that means they really only want healthy patients. Purchase/use/trust with caution.
It's not real health care. its just a place to park idiot doctors who were just smart enough to do more school than other people but not bright enough to actually do anything useful with that extra schooling.
I am with you I am tired of video appointments. I finally after having a knee replacement and not getting better after five months I insisted on seeing my doctor in person. He just told me to rest it and no exercises or physical therapy for at least one to two months. I did get X-rays but not sure what he saw. It is very hard to stay off my legs for that long of a time and Kaiser offered no devices that cold help me to not walk on it. I am going to spend my own money to get another opinion from a doctor outside Kaiser.
When I broke my leg they offered crutches but I wasn't strong enough to use them, so I went to a medical devices place and rented a walker. Stayed home a month
By law, in California anyhow, you are entitled to a second opinion outside of Kaiser as long as you have already seen a Kaiser physician for the issue. Don't pay for it out of pocket. Get them to pay for it.
I had sepsis in 2012. I thought I had a flu, I started hallucinating, my bones felt like they were all broken, ect. In emergency room a doctor came to me because I was screaming & crying asked me some questions ect.,she said " this is sepsis". In hosp 11 days+ weeks of recovery and I lived!! Thanks to a doctor who knew how to recognize SEPSIS.🌞👍
Im so sorry for your loss😥💔. I was actually hospitalized for sepsis back in November. I rushed myself to the hospital when the pain in my back did not feel normal... very painful...I was crying, throwing up from the pain! It took the emergency 5 to 6 hours later to see me but they took care of me. But yes when something doesn't feel normal & painful don't wait for an appointment just go straight to the E.R. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
They won't see anyone in person without trying to assume you have the plague, tried to get a routine physical in person, they wanted me to stay fully dressed and talk to me on the phone from another room. I want a normal hands on appt, look in my ears and throat, that stuff. If I wanted a electronic spying appt I would have done that. I'm very quiet, but was yelling at them as I stormed out. Haven't seen a doctor in years for anything
Good old Kaiser. I had one of those phone consultations, was told I had anxiety ( I was having shortness of breath), hours later my husband took me to the ER, two surgeries and 11 days later, I could finally breath again. I am not a fan of Kaiser.
Something similar happened to my younger cousin 2 years ago, they told her that her brain tumor wasn’t cancerous and she would be fine but then started slowly acting weird and got sick and when she went to the hospital they told her she had stage four cancer because of the brain tumor and now she’s dead 💔died at 19 two months after the hospital visit and was told that if that doctor would have taken it more serious they could have saved her life and left a 2 year old behind 🥺 doctors don’t even care anymore they literally just go in the room for like 5 minutes and leave and don’t even bother to check you anymore how they should and way too many deaths that are preventable are happening now a days because of their careless behavior and only care about money
Correction. If it is important enough to anyone to call or see any doctor that patient's concerns should be taken seriously at all times. Kaiser now understands 3 million dollars later.
Yea, its not that hard to get an urgent care appointment. I got one on Christmas for something otherwise benign, also from kaiser; then again I just made an appointment, didnt bother making a phone appointment first. They had money, what stopped them from going with their gut and heading to urgent care?
This happened to my dad but I begged him to go to the ER the same day. The Doctor says he wouldn’t have been so lucky the next day. I couldn’t imagine life without my dad 😢
Steve Jobs and I had the same type of tumor on our respective pancreases. He and I were both born in 1955, btw. In 2002, Kaiser doctors discovered and removed the that tumor from my pancreas. A year or two later, Steve Jobs also went through surgery to have a tumor removed from his pancreas. Regardless, despite being a billionaire with access to the best medical advice and care in the world, he died about 6-7 years later. Twenty- two years later, I'm still here. Thank you, Kaiser. As sad as this is, why didn't this man go to Urgent Care or the ER sooner if he were that sick? I do.
My girlfriend's sister died under Kaiser Permanente care. She went to ER because she was very sick and they sent her home and told her she had the flu and to go to bed and rest. One week later My girlfriend found her in bed, in a coma, and within a matter of a few days, she died from undiagnosed Hepatitis B. I will NEVER have or choose Kaiser.
So happy that she went after Kaiser “When you admit a Kaiser patients at any other facility they are the sickest patients Kaiser dropped the ball on several occasions …My hat off this wife she went after for the death of her husband .May His Soul Rest in eternal Peace 🙏🏾💔🌹
It is his responsibility to go to emergency. My Doctor asks why are you calling me. Or a letter is sent and he says if it is bad why are you waiting to see me.
Kaiser is the worst. This story is so true. I can never get an appointment with my primary care doctor, not even a phone appointment. Kaiser Permanente is awful 😞
Kaiser .... love them hate them.... it took over six weeks before Kaiser would finally let me see a specialist who then looked at me and asked me, “How in the heck have you been able to live with your current pain?!” Their, “ Protocol” system needs to be thrown out..... saving a few bucks by not hiring enough staff will eventually come back to bite the corporate management in the ass, ( as apparently this incident has,) I feel badly for your family and your loss❤️
So sorry for the loss this family has suffered. I am grateful for this woman, her case and this post. I was beginning to think it was 'just me' being demanding and crazy. My health has been so compromised for years by Kaiser. Thankfully I will get Medicare in 3 months and I'm leaving Kaiser. I too had sepsis, was misdiagnosed at a hospital and sent home (this is unfortunately quite common) but I got lucky, went to another hospital and was treated for six days in hospital and survived. Kaiser's follow up for that experience was less than poor however. I am battling two conditions now and it's impossible to get appointments, follow up care or any attention to my medical needs. I think the whole system (based on huge insurance and medical company profits) is broken, but I think Kaiser is among the worst. The icing on the cake here is that Kaiser is begging me to stay when I get Medicare.......they can't even treat the patients they currently have on board.
I will tell you what happen to my Dad this past January 2022. My dad is 86 years old with no respiratory problems or underlying conditions except for a mild heart attack over 10 years ago. My father was 100% healthy this past Christmas and a few days later he had a mild cough, so did my mom. My mom is 80 years old with asthma, diabetes & thyroid. The cough was nothing serious and they took normal everyday over the counter cough medicine whenever they caught a cough or a cold. On January 2nd they both still had s mild cough. My Mom & Dad both went to Kaiser to be test for Covid On January 4th they were both tested positive and they had to quarantine themselves. My dad had a tempature jumping back and forth from 98° - 102° it was 98 during the morning then 102 around lunch time then back to 98 in the evening. My mom called Kaiser on January 6th trying to book an appointment for him to come in when it was 102° because he started sleeping alot throughout January the 5th. The nurse told my mom just give him Tylenol to reduce the fever, well that didn't work at all. He lost his appetite and would eat any foods or drink any liquid. My mom called Kaiser back on January 8th around 8 pm and they told her that yes that is one of the symptoms he will experience when you catch Covid. The next morning January 9th My dad's body started getting cold and hot and he was shaking like he was having a seizure but then it would stop. My mom called me up asking me for advice, she said he is unable to stand up. I said Mom, you need call 911 because it sounds like Pneumonia and that is the symptoms for Pneumonia. Fatigue, Loss of Appetite, chills, sweating or feeling hot, cough, hard to breath and usually you are dehydrated. I said Mom you had Pneumonia back in 2011 you were admitted into ICU. My mom called 911 when the fire department & ambulance arrived my dad had 72% oxygen in his body you need 93% or higher. The fire department gave my dad something that look like nebulizer and his oxygen shot up from 72% to 98% and he was able to stand up and walk out the front door and be taken by Ambulance. Kaiser called my Mom about 4 hours later and told her, my Dad has Severe Covid Pneumonia and he is in critical condition. He was admitted on Monday in ICU. He is very strong and healthy for his age. It will be a long haul for him to make a full recovery. They told her Kaiser does not allow any visitors in ICU/Hospital Kaiser called about 5x that night and about 10x the next day. They were asking for everything even what current prescription or any vitamins he takes. I forgot to mention my mom got over Covid. She tested negative and so did the family. Only my dad had Covid. Kaiser stopped calling us and they told us if you want to call ICU and get an update on how he is doing you can. They told my mom don't worry he is being taken well care of by doctors & nurses here. 24/7 So we decided we would just only call in the morning and in the evening to see how he is doing. Well we called one time during the day and ICU never answered the phone. It just kept ringing & ringing & ringing. We figured they must be busy or away from the desk. So we waited a couple hours later and we called back, no answer. Now its like 1 pm we called again and still no answer.. I told my mom let's just wait until 3 or 4 and I will call using my cell phone. I called and surprisingly they answered. I asked about my dad how he is doing. The Nurse or whoever answered the phone must have been having a really bad day, she told us with a nasty negative attitude to "Stop calling ICU you have called 4x today we are extremely busy and he is watching Tv, We will call you back if anything changes" Kaiser hanged up on us. We called Kaiser on January 12th around 9 am and we found out Kaiser was refusing to give my dad any water to drink" The nurse said he is getting the IV's he needs because he is dehydrated and he is not urinating much when he drinks liquid. My dad is getting upset because he is thirsty mouth tongue lips is extremely dry. They put this mask that blows air over his nose & mouth that blows air into his lungs which he didn't want or need. All he needed was the medication for the Pneumonia to take by mouth. The night shift was extremely nice & positive about his condition and telling us how well he is improving. The morning shift would tell us he is near deaths door We asked the night crew what time is the shift change? They told us night crew comes in from 6 pm to 6 am day crew comes in at 6 am to pm. My mom received a phone call on Sunday the 16th around 4 am asking her how many steps do you have at the front door and is the home a 2 story or single story home. Do you have any pets or children living in the household. She didn't understand why they were asking these questions. Kaiser asked is the house equipped for home care because all his vitals are up and he is improving. His oxygen is 98% his liver kidneys blood pressure all normal. He is walking to the bathroom on his own, sitting up and watching TV, eating breakfast/dinner etc. Kaiser said When he is discharged he will need home care, a live in nurse or a nurse checking on him. Kaiser told my mom he will still be weak and won't be back doing anything extreme anytime soon. My mom asked Kaiser does he still have Covid or Pneumonia. They said yes he does but it's not Severe like it was when he was admitted, It's much better. She asked when do you expect him to be discharged? Kaiser said when he no longer has Covid or Pneumonia he is free to go home. My mom called me up and my brother telling us the great news about his condition. We immediately drove to my moms house and started moving furniture and other things around so there would be room for a hospital bed, wheelchair if needed. Around 8 am, 4 hours later Sunday same day my mom received a phone call from Kaiser telling her his oxygen went from 98% to 60% and he is not going to make it. We put a high flow mask on his face to keep him stable and responsive. We can make arrangements for you to come in and say goodbye. Kaiser claimed he had lung damage that was beyond repair and its in God's hands. They told us to come down at 11 am and they had to swab test us for Covid. Each test takes 15 - 20 mins for the results before anyone can enter ICU . Instead of swab testing all of us at once they swab test 1 person at a time then that person goes up and visits with my dad for 30 - 45 mins then the next person gets a swab test/15 min wait for results They gave my dad a morph shot so he won't suffer and die peacefully. He died around 4:30 5 pm right before the night shift came in. We honestly believe Kaiser killed my father because he was not vaccinated. The morning shift was constantly pushing the ventilator on my Mom for him to use. I personally know 2 doctors who work for (Kaiser) not this Location and won't give out their names but they both said the same thing. Hospitals get paid 3x more $$$ if they put Covid-19 as the cause of death on the death certificate. Example: if someone does from Pneumonia then the hospital would only get $5,000 if its Covid-19 Pneumonia they get $13,000 - $15,000. If the patient dies with Covid-19 and on a ventilator the hospital gets paid $37,000 - $40,000 My question is why are they pushing for all these ventilators? Imagine how much $$$$ a hospital csn make if they put every patient with Covid-19 on ventilator. Do I believe my father died from Covid? No I do not. I believe he died from Pneumonia and was not receiving the medicine he needed. How is it my father who is healthy for his age at 86 dies from Severe Covid Pneumonia but my mom who has 3 underlying conditions at 80 yrs old get over Covid without being admitted in the hospital.
I will tell you how. Kaiser didn’t follow protocol for your Dad. They probably never did a throat swab to find out what kind of pneumonia and just start throwing antibiotics in him. Nothing worked, they tried another, until the pneumonia spread through his lungs so much that they couldn’t save him. That is exactly what happened to my Mom. And they put Covid on the death certificate but she didn’t have Covid. I’m sorry about your father. Hold tight to your Mom and take good care.
@katheinireland8431 Thank you so much for this comment. I really appreciate what you told me. We have been trying to find answers on several things with my dad passing away. Sorry to hear about your loss.
When my 77 year old dad with a history of pulmonary embolism went in for chest pain and breathing problems he was told he had heartburn. Two days later he died of cardiac arrest. The dr who turned him away later wrote us a lengthy letter on how sorry he was about my dads death. He knew he was wrong and maybe if he took my dads symptoms more serious he would be alive today😔
Kaiser has taken on so many new patients they do not have the Staff here in Lakewood Co either. Many KP doctors have quit (including mine) due to the way they treat Geriatric Patients. They treat them basically like babies that dont know whats going on in their bodies. Its truly sad and I am sorry this has happened to you. I cannot wait until I turn 65, go on Medicare and I can return to my old Kaiser Doctor. Since he left my health and been spiraling down I have become nearly non active, not able to walk. Its just sad.
My father passed away 6 yrs ago from sepsis WHILE getting a x-ray at Kaiser hospital. He went to the hospital twice before they started to try to figure out what was wrong. They wanted to try and find the blockage, we were right outside the x-ray room 2 mins later I watched my dad take his last breath
Kaiser doctor almost killed me and took years to recover from it. Kaiser treats people like cattle. They couldn’t care less about you!! I’m so happy to see them held accountable for once!! I’m so sorry for your loss, you are NOT alone!!!💜
My husband went in to see a kaiser doctor with 3 days high fever. Chills and history of sepsis and they sent him home with no labs..who does that? I raised hell he went back in the next day and they didn't do the labs stat even though 4th day with high fever. So took him to st.jude ER and was immediately admitted with severe sepsis. Had I not taken him to st. Jude he wouldn't be alive today . You have to question!
I previously worked in health insurance for one of the largest healthcare insurance companies in the U.S. and I heard many a horror story about Kaiser.
So sorry for your loss it happened to Me to they would NOT see me and kept sending me home went to ER room again and they sent me home again only to end up being Rushed to the hospital coded blue 3x and on Life support for 4 days ended up getting a tracheotomy and ended up in the hospital 4-5 months no eating, drinking, or talking at all. My family called to speak to a Kaiser Ombudsmen and they said there was nothing they could do for how i was treated. They did admit that i was NOT given enough antibiotics to treat the pneumonia i had when i 1st went into be seen over and over again and turned away the doctor called my family together to tell them that if i code one more time they will not be able to save me because my throat was closing as well it was Very hurtful and by the time i got out of the hospital and tried to recover i was told that no attorney would take my case because i was in the hospital to long and the time to file a case was up!
My mom too she was admitted through the er she had sepsis and ended up on the 6th floor the least caring and they waited till the 4th day when she couldn’t breathe to take her to icu!!
Teladoc’s are terrible. I called once explaining how I wasn’t feeling well and even vomited but didn’t feel any flu or cold symptoms. The doctor just wanted to prescribe me Tamiflu and be done with me. I was encouraged by a family member to go to urgent care. What I REALLY had was a uti. If I would have followed that quacks advice, I might not be here now.
I am in the process of a malpractice lawsuit against Kaiser too. They are horrible and the doctors there should not even be doctors. The company is just worthless.
I've had good doctors at Kaiser and it's convenient to have all my appointments at the same place. But, in the last few years, it's been harder to get in to see a doctor when you need them. They seem to have a strict process where you first call an advice nurse, then, if you have certain symptoms, you can make an appointment. Also, they encourage you to do video appointments, or phone appointments. During Covid, it was practically impossible to go into the hospital, and after the pandemic, they never went back to the personal attention you could get easily before. I'm sure it's a cost cutting measure, and it's not just Kaiser, it's all the corporate medical systems.
It’s very true. I developed sepsis as well after surgery. I went to Kaiser after suffering fever and chills. My husband took me in and they did a spinal tap then I was sent me home. My husband brought me back and I stayed for a week. If I would of stayed home I would of died.
Per a former KP physician *after* he left Kaiser: "Kaiser makes its money by denying care; (his current health group) makes its money by providing care."
Kaiser about to take over all California med i cal and Medicare
@Karen Carpenter
Providence bought all the hospitals in Northern California where I live a couple of years ago. Maybe you believe Kaiser will now buy out Providence in California? Do you know how many hospitals that is?
@Karen Carpenter
there are no Kaiser hospitals near me in California so it would be impossible to tell medi cal and Medicare patients they could only go there. You might be hearing that they will start to accept that insurance now because they would not before but that is not what “taking over” means.

So now everybody has to rush to the doctor's office every time they have a sniffle....

The argument would have been, if you were in that much pain, why didn't you call an ambulance, go on in after the call. Fact is, Kaiser has a Walk in Acute Care Emergency.

From this video and the comments I AM THANKFUL I’ve NEVER gone with Kaiser. May this man Rest In Peace.
He died."
The nurses on shift that weekend need to hang their heads in shame.

Please do if you are still having pain. Always better to get a second opinion
Thats a great idea, Im with Kaiser and I hate them.
By law, in California anyhow, you are entitled to a second opinion outside of Kaiser as long as you have already seen a Kaiser physician for the issue. Don't pay for it out of pocket. Get them to pay for it.

He should have gone to urgent care or the ER if it was that serious. No md is going to think this was serious over the phone.
Correction. If it is important enough to anyone to call or see any doctor that patient's concerns should be taken seriously at all times. Kaiser now understands 3 million dollars later.
In other words. Diagnose yourself, don't expect a doctor to know anything.

My dad died to sepsis thanks to KP shit work. He was at the hospital when he developed it and it still went unnoticed.
My Mom & Dad both went to Kaiser to be test for Covid
On January 4th they were both tested positive and they had to quarantine themselves.
The next morning January 9th
My dad's body started getting cold and hot and he was shaking like he was having a seizure but then it would stop.
They told her Kaiser does not allow any visitors in ICU/Hospital
Kaiser called about 5x that night and about 10x the next day.
So we decided we would just only call in the morning and in the evening to see how he is doing.
The Nurse or whoever answered the phone must have been having a really bad day, she told us with a nasty negative attitude to
"Stop calling ICU you have called 4x today we are extremely busy and he is watching Tv, We will call you back if anything changes" Kaiser hanged up on us.
The morning shift would tell us he is near deaths door
We asked the night crew what time is the shift change?
Instead of swab testing all of us at once they swab test 1 person at a time then that person goes up and visits with my dad for 30 - 45 mins then the next person gets a swab test/15 min wait for results
They gave my dad a morph shot so he won't suffer and die peacefully.
If the patient dies with Covid-19 and on a ventilator the hospital gets paid $37,000 - $40,000
My question is why are they pushing for all these ventilators?

Thank you so much for this comment. I really appreciate what you told me. We have been trying to find answers on several things with my dad passing away. Sorry to hear about your loss.
Why does anyone go to Kaiser? You are not seen by a doctor. You are always seen by a nurse.
Thanks so much for speaking out.
I’m so sorry. Nurse here. Seeing in person is so important…and the eyes being those of a competent provider.
Try reaching out to your old doctor and ask what you can do to improve your health until then. I Hope you get better.
My father passed away 6 yrs ago from sepsis WHILE getting a x-ray at Kaiser hospital. He went to the hospital twice before they started to try to figure out what was wrong. They wanted to try and find the blockage, we were right outside the x-ray room 2 mins later I watched my dad take his last breath
wow. 3 million for missing sepsis on a phone call. I dont know how you could get that on a phone call.
3 million?? She is set for life.
I need a patient advocate asap
She won because she has big bucks as a Marin resident. Well. Good for her. Sorry for her husband’s horrible death.
I previously worked in health insurance for one of the largest healthcare insurance companies in the U.S. and I heard many a horror story about Kaiser.
Sending my prayers to the family.
You helped me decide what I am going to do. I am so sorry for your loss.
I stopped going to kaiser a long time ago… it’s ridiculous waiting months for an appointment
Awful. Be strong & thanks for spreading awareness!! Xo
I lost my mother who was in hospital from sepsis. They ignored her cry’s and of her children. Makes me sick and I will never go to kaiser Hospital
Sitting next to Kaiser Vacaville watching them mistreat a man in the ER waiting room right now.
This is similar to how people in Canada’s medical system are treated.
Get a PPO if you can
God bless this family !!
And the pandemic has made it even worse. They don't want to see anyone. How are you supposed to physically assess someone over the phone?
It’s very true. I developed sepsis as well after surgery. I went to Kaiser after suffering fever and chills. My husband took me in and they did a spinal tap then I was sent me home. My husband brought me back and I stayed for a week. If I would of stayed home I would of died.
Per a former KP physician *after* he left Kaiser: "Kaiser makes its money by denying care; (his current health group) makes its money by providing care."
Sorry for you loss but excellent you won!!! Time for Kaiser Hospitals be responsible for their ugly way the treat sick people!!
