Nothing wrong with a garage ‘Queen’, some bikes are just works of art that can be admired in the garage and just taken out on sunny Sunday mornings….. there are disadvantages to getting older but one of the advantages is that (a) we can afford a selection of bikes (b) we don’t have to ride every day in all weathers to get to work, we can simply have these bikes to enjoy when the fancy takes us. Just enjoy and ignore any nay sayers they are simply jealous! 👍

Idk seems like the smaller bikes in the garage are taking up space I'd say sell some of the smaller ones and the Ducati and get a bike you're going to ride. Motorcycles arent toys they're tools. Men don't play with toys. Maybe a dual sport like a husky 690-890. Plenty of horsepower and can go way more places. Look up "extended adolescence" it's destroying culture all over the world. That being said I'm a dual sport rider who's version of fun is survival camping so I might be biased.

Seeing your bikes being moved around reminded me of my daily routine of unlocking the bike in London every day: unlock 19mm chain, unlock front disc lock, unlock rear disc lock, unlock another chain. Open bicycle store gate, open garage link gate, open garage gate. Lock the chain, store front disc lock, put away rear disc lock, lock another chain, disarm the bike, move the bike, lock both doors, lock the gate… Sometimes answer the call from bike track that bike has been moved. Twice a day. That’s biking in London for you. Sold the bike and got electric bicycle and never looked back.

Your red Ducati 899 Panigale is a truly beautiful bike and your upgrades/enhancements are in keeping with the bikes aesthetics. I’m also convinced that it rides as well as it looks. Yet as you say, there is more than looks, handling and performance. There is a price to be paid. Part of that is having to wriggle into the Ninja/Power Ranger’s outfit. Then for us older riders we get the back ache, wrist ache, neck ache and arse ache. They are not cheap either. Does that mean we shouldn’t have one? Of course not. As long as the ride is enjoyable, that you can afford it and you enjoy owning one then that is all the justification you need to have one.

Hey Andy! I thoroughly enjoyed this. I’m 70, and still enjoying my sports bikes (including lots of track days). I love the Panigale range in particular and I think your “baby” is beautifully designed. I had to laugh as the first pop-up ad (just as you mentioned the discomfort of riding in that position) was for back pain relief. I have arthritis in my neck and shoulders as well, and treat the morning-after pain as a reminder of how much fun I had the previous day. Just wait until we start seeing AI-selected pop-up ads on our motorcycle dashes, most likely for old folks’ homes and used recreational vehicle purchase services. Here’s to your being able to squeeze into your leathers in ten years!

Hey Andy, another great video, thanks. I recently, well last year, sold my last bike having made the decision that I’m just not getting the use or pleasure out of them that I once did and I’ve made the move to Porsche ownership so not all sad news. Whilst my interest in bike is diminishing and I’ve stopped watching most of the bike vlogs I used to, I must say I still very very much enjoy your content. Little vids like this, your tours and especially the biker scran vids with the chaps. Keep up the great work keeping the public entertained 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi TMF, yes I can relate to your experience that the sportsbike does put various strains on the old body when you reach a certain age (had to part company with my gsxr750 a few years back now for something more comfortable). However you can’t beat the grin factor on acceleration and handling of these machines…. If you can afford to keep them in the garage for occasional nice day usage then more power to you….

It must be an age thing, I have just bought the Kawasaki Z900 RS SE in yellow ball as well, I also have a sports bike but because I get myself into an even lower tuck racing on my cycling time trial bikes, as I have done for decades, the sports bike is a comfy arm chair to ride in comparison. Getting out on the 959 crossed my mind after work but reality set in just getting out of the truck upon arriving home. Unfortunately, I can relate to putting so few miles on the Panigale while having other motorcycles. I took about 3 last rides on my VFR before finally selling it and didn’t get past the break in period on the Ducati until last year. I have too many mods on hand to mention but want to catch up on the riding when time permits and the weather is cooperative.

100% agree with you mate about the V2 Ducati's. I have a multistrada 1200S. It's lighter than the V4, gets way better fuel range (I live in the states where a 1000 km day is not uncommon) is not as hot on the legs. Yes I know, it doesn't get the same hp, but really? 150hp isn't enough? and with some easy mods 165 is doable. and finally, was $20k less, that will cover all of my motorcycling costs for the rest of my life 😃

Fair play for getting your leathers on in February. I'm still scarred from doing the same a few years back when I had a naked Street Triple. Went out on a long ride with a friend who has a Z100SX (with heated grips of course) and really suffered!! Brrr
Lovely bike - ride it when and how you want to! I can't ride my R1 to anywhere near it's abilities but still have lots of fun, and love it to bits.
On comfort - my R1 has Gilles rearsets which raise the pegs even higher. For the first few weeks of riding it I thought they would have to come off as my legs couldn't handle being bent into such acute angles. But eventually my muscles adjusted and I actually find it comfier than other supersports bikes. Being locked to the tank really helps the back. Perhaps something to look into if you're not quite fitted up right on the 899?

Gorgeous! …..I do wonder if they only seem tough or uncomfortable to ride after we’ve been riding other “comfy” bikes, and then get back on these. I’ve ridden my 996 since new, done full days in the saddle and found it fine for comfort, except perhaps for the clutch in heavy town traffic. Even the wind deflection seems better than many adv bikes, and I’m 6ft 4.
I find the 996 seat more comfortable on a long run than my multi V4s. Weird, I know.
Love the Panigale. All of them. Really nice. The only thing that stopped me buying one is that exhaust bend above the rear wheel, that always reminds me a bit of a bladder from some angles. The only blemish on an otherwise stunning machine….. and the akro wheel barrow pipes are eye wateringly expensive.

I have the 1299, the original Pirelli Supercorsa SP’s did feel a bit squirmy in the wet, I find the Pirelli Rosso Corsa 2’s much more confidence inspiring in the wet on public roads, well within my talent limitations on the track as well. Comfort wise try adjusting lever angles, drop your elbows and consider a suspension setup. The rear especially stock is set for a pillion and is far too stiff, I am 80kg and had to wind off the preload quite a lot. The front on the other hand I stiffened to prevent bottoming out under heavy braking. There are more comfortable bikes but few with the same character, presence and experience as the Ducati Panigale.

Recently went through a bunch of bikes trying to buy a new one and to me the panigale v2 was the most comfortable of all of them to me. The more upright nakeds and more touring style bikes mean that you're sitting on your butt all day with all the weight going into your hips and legs, where these bikes are bit on the wrists so you can distribute your weight around moving around throughout a ride. There is a tonne of leg room on the v2, and good wind protection for the highway. You do get a bit of neck pain if you look up like you're on an upright bike but if you get your head down a bit and look up with your eyes, it's all day comfortable. I put the suspension pretty soft as well, no point having it hard when I'm not breaking hard on the street / weekend. I tried the raised seat but it was too hard and too high. All in all it's the perfect sports street bike imho.

Much to the amusement of magistrates everywhere, big Ducatis can only find their sweet spot in the upper register.
Awkward in town & downright painful in the canter, their frustration rumbles it's way into the rider's psych, but once the 'going' opens up & the 'permission to gallop' is sent, everyone's ears stand up & the incredible things can happen . . . to your license! Loved the early 851 too much, 'it just had to go' . . . in every sense really . . . especially the tyre bills! Was fun though : )

I’ve had my 899 from new, 2014 and it’s just coming up for it’s second Desmo service at 30,000 miles 💸💸!
As sports bikes go I find it pretty comfortable and I’m 66 now! but I also ride a race bicycle 🚴 for hours on end, and anything’s comfortable after that 😂!
Nothing has temped me to change it, so I’ve spent a few bob on special parts, BST carbon wheels ( fantastic!) and K-Tech DDS pro shock and other stuff, to ride it now is heavenly 😇!
The key to it Andy is to avoid town work, not the bikes favourite, get it out into the countryside on a sunny day, on some nicely surfaced flowing roads, keep it on the boil and it’s an almost spiritual experience 🙏

An hour or two in the saddle had my shoulder blades on fire at a mere 40 without arthritis. A Varadero was a revelation in riding comfort and just easier to ride. A brief flirtation with an R1150RT (I loathed it within a very short time) and an R1200RT confirmed that leg room is key hence GS/GSA/ATAS and now 890 Adventure. At a whisker off 64 unlikely that a garage queen is imminent.

2:00 in my opinion, well fitting leathers are more comfortable than textile suits. They should be tight, but not restrictive of movement. They do force you into the sports bike position/posture, but assuming you ride a sports bike, that's good.
I just got some fancy Dainese leathers, and they make a significant difference in my riding style simply because of comfort and freedom of the movements you make on a bike.
With textile, it always feels like layers of fabric are moving over each other, instead of the whole suit moving as one with your body.
