    What I spotted, raising the nose before adding power for the go around, 1st one, carb heat left on, 2nd one, you got it eventually, carb heat off at 300ft is what I was taught. Reducing power while still climbing for levelling off. Attitude, power, trim for level. You can fly a Piper Arrow at 90 knots straight and level or 125 knots straight and level without changing the power setting, induced drag, getting the plane to it's most efficient cruise. This is meant to be helpful, hope you don't mind.

    Nice flight, here is a thought to discuss with your instructor. To enhance safety, on the takeoff roll you call-out AIRSPEED ALIVE, TAKEOFF POWER, ENGINE INSTRUMENTS IN THE GREEN. For a fixed pitch prop, you don't reach full RPM on the start of your takeoff roll, but it should be showing an RPM that suggests it is developing takeoff power.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  Год назад +1

    Morning Andy, I usually just tune in for the MC content. Just flying about tends to be a bit dull.
    Quite enjoyed that, Oddly I liked all the technical stuff, TCLOCKing the airplane before you head out. It is so long since I was current.
    I once found my fuel contaminated with ATK doing my check. Which ruined my plans for the day. I used to dip my tanks with a stick. Haven’t pre flight checked an aircraft since the early 90’s.
    Once upon a time long ago I flew with Glasgow Flying Club. It could be very frustrating trying to do touch and go. Spent a lot of time waiting for the big guys. In my Cherokee.
    Good airman to do the go round. Good practice as well.
    Like I said it was the technical details I found interesting. I liked your commentary on what you were doing and how you were flying. I’m sure some other people would find the details interesting.
    Some little pieces of info might be interesting to any other aviation anorak type.
    The air speed slow down to 85 from 100, it’s not the throttle which reduces the speed. The air speed is varied by the angle of attack or raising the nose. while the rate of climb or descent is controlled by the throttle.
    The carb heat, heats the carburetor when the engine is at idle. If not heated it can gets cold and can ice up.
    Nice gentle soft field landing. Looked like you had done it before. Didn’t hear the stall warning with the background noise but assume it went of just like it’s supposed to.

    I’d be very happy as a passenger to hear your calm confident tones making passenger announcements from the cockpit 👏👌q: if you’re flying same direction as the cub for example, do you overtake on the port or starboard side ? Interesting that the fun is in the turns like bikes and cars.

    G- EGLM? You nicked the wrong one, you were in G-ISDB. You have certainly brought back memories of memories when I flew bug smashers, also from WLAC. The club had a great attitude to aviation and it was a nice place to be. I’d also forgotten how much gets checked and how often, especially considering the size of the aircraft. It makes me realise the value of my company’s engineers as checking a larger aircraft is so much simpler. If I may say, your flying looks pretty neat. I’m judging that by your attitude and heading control especially as thermal activity would have made that difficult. It was also good to see someone who was well ahead of their aircraft and that was good patter. Great stuff.
    Top tip, if you are going to check the pitot heater, use the back of your hand just in case it is very hot. A hot very surface will bugger up your nerves and potentially cause your hand to involuntary clench up.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

      Thanks Trevor as always - I've been flying for 26 years now so am getting the hang of it - good tip on the pitot head, but to be fair I've never known one get too hot to touch (normally just warm if you've just switched the heater on). ....and yes White Waltham is a very special place, can't beat a pint watching sunset after a days aviating for fun....
