After 50 bikes and 50 yrsvof riding I went and tried one of these. Ordered one straight away, thanks for a great review. Anyone interested I a triumph Speedmaster, great condition 😂.
Top notch review as always. The bike is a great value proposition, even if the looks are a bit bland -- they're using the same headlight module as on the Transalp/500X/F to keep the cost down. I suspect there will be a CBR750R version of this at some point, too. Some people think Honda bikes are a bit too vanilla, but for me that just means easy to ride and own. Be safe!
A CBR750R (Interceptor) sounds great to me. But they should find another 10-20 hp from the engine. 90-120hp is a great place for a sport bike on the road.
Great review as always, Andy! I ride a 1998 Honda Hornet 600F, 16'' front wheel, twin exhaust, no electronic gadgets, no fuel gauge ( am old school ) and she makes me smile with every ride and is a lot of fun with plenty of torque! I do have to say, I do like the old looks much better and with its wide seat I'm very comfy with my 19 stone, 6'5'' frame. All the best and safe ride!!
Yes, the old style Hornet is a much better looking more individual machine. I remember seeing the 250 4 cylinder Hornet being brought in as a used grey import by Batts Motorcycles warehouse at Biggin Hill Airport, (i worked next door) and thought what an amazing looking bike they were back then.
@@manitolas Hey! Yup, the early Hornets all came with a 16" front, until they changed to 17" by early 2000 I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. You def have to watch yourself going into corners because you might lose your front very quickly and the only tyres available with 16"front are the Bridgestone Battleax that were designated for the first Hornets coming out the factory.
Definitely a bike I would be looking at. One I hadn't even considered, but the tour pack version looks ideal for me, and for that price, you'd have to give it a look over.
As Gary said below moving to a Hornet might be considered a downgrade for me, but, 91hp and enough torque, light weight, sensible seat, just enough tech and a flipping knockout price, it will be a serious contender for many buying groups not just A2+! At that price, you can add the luggage, a small screen, heated grips etc. Want you to arrange a back to back with the Suzuki GSX8 though as that looks pretty damned good too.
I don’t understand why people talk about down grading tbh. It is just another bike/ a different bike 🤷♂️. It also depends on what you want from a bike. If you want to go fast and do some track days you buy a sports bike, but is it down grading if you then buy a commuter bike when your life changes? I don’t think so. It is simply different, not better or worse. 👍
I took the plunge and ordered this as my first big bike, coming from the CB125R. Was a bit nervous about going for an untested bike but you have just put my mind at rest, thanks! Great review and I'll be following for more hornet stuff
Can't say I care much for the look..seems a bit transformer-ish to me but besides that I think Honda has hit it out of the park! Power, features and especially price......very good! Looking forward to tour additional reviews and comments..Cheers!
Some of the bikes look like some sort of bug similar to a grasshopper. This is what the young designers grew up watching in TV cartoons. I still like the bike's overall characteristics
I'm a Honda rider and a fan of their bikes generally, but what really strikes me about the CB750 is just how overly bland it is. There is no real design language beyond 'committee approved' by a brief that included 'inoffensive', 'approachable', and perhaps 'urban'. Great review as usual TMF, thanks!
Started on a '02 CB600F and I could not have wished for a better first bike as a all rounder. Cheap, reliable and has enough poke to learn a lot from! The 600cc engine puts a massive grin on my face everytime I wind it up. Hornets will always hold a special place in my heart
Nice review. When I first saw CB750 as the model moniker, brought back memories of riding the first CB750 in the early 70’s. Four pipe model with the removable baffles creating a unique sound in the day when twins ruled the road. Cheers!
Great show as always, thanks very much 😊. Honda, like Yamaha and Triumph, developed this engine or platform with several different models in mind and I must say they did a fantastic job. With the Transalp and Hornet released recently they offer two very affordable no-nonsense bikes targeting quite different groups of riders and it seems they respond well. Great move Honda. Some questions for you Andy seeing as you asked 🙂. 1️⃣ How is it for a pillion? Obviously that’s not what it’s really for with the tiny seat high up but it would be interesting to know. 2️⃣ Also, what real-world fuel economy and range did you get over your week with it? 3️⃣ It’s not built for touring but how do you think it would fare on a long (several weeks) tour? Hi Andy, Thanks for another great review of a bike I wouldn't have thought about before seeing your review, it was good to see you weren't held up at all by any poor people in their Evoque's.
As a shorter female rider I'm definitely interested in this as my next bike. I currently ride a lowered Yamaha MT07, but I'd really like to see that riding position in more detail - even you sat static on the bike with your feet up so we can see your back/arm/knee position would be good, please.
There was space to improve the view in the right hand mirror by moving the bracket on the handlebar closer to the switchgear. Left hand mirror bracket is up against the switchgear so it’s as good as it can be. Careless setting up/PDI by the dealer.
Another great review. I've been looking forward to you trying this bike. At £7k for such a complete package, I think these will sell in big numbers. In fact, my local dealership had already sold their allocation for this year. I'm a little disappointed that Honda had priced the new Transalp at £9500, bearing in mind it's a mechanically similar bike and they share a lot of parts. It's hard to see where the extra £2500 comes from. The salesman I spoke to said they were hoping it was going to be between £8k and £8,500 in view of the price of the hornet. This bike is an absolute bargain.
Passed my test in 2012 and first bike was a 2 year old Hornet 600, think that model looked nicer and of course an inline four, but must admit the newbie sounds great value for money, although for 7k I'd get a 3 year old Street triple or MT09. Cheers Andy great review. Segura Nacho looks good.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Was waiting dear boy. Your reviews are great. About to look at a Tracer 7! So perfect timing. So a yellow hornet 750 in Carlisle tuther day!
I’m tempted by the new transalp but NO cruse control , have a 2020 500x and a bmw f800gt so was hopefully going to combine the two , tried the Bmw 750 gs but was disappointed looks like it’s going to be a used triumph tiger 800. But want a decent road test first . Really enjoying the channel
If they would of put a round headlight on it I’d be interested, never been a fan of the transformer shaped headlights, but then I prefer classic bikes to new bikes. Would like to ride one tho.
Nice first impressions video Andy. Thank you. No questions from me as you always cover these in you living with one. Great to see the fashion part back as I always watch these. 👍😎🇦🇺
Nice first impressions vid & I think you're first to this. Kudos. It seems like a very decent offering & is a hell of a lot of bike for the money but I'm struggling with the looks as it just seems so bland imo. I think I'd find it really hard to get excited about actually buying one because of it but I shall reserve judgement until I see one in real life. I'm also very interested to see the next installment.
Good review as usual, looks like the hornet will be a good seller. It seems that a lot riders are getting fed up with all the tech on bikes these days, I know I am it’s a case of less is more, less tech more fun 😊
Great review. Maybe you can compare this bike to the CB650R. I know its a different engine, inline4 but more about handling, comfort and usability. I prefer the look of the CB650R and ofcourse the sound but other than that, not sure. I’m 6,3 tall so i’m not sure which one suit me the best. Do mostly street/town comuting riding. Thanks again
Thanks for a great review. For folks looking for their first big bike, there’s an embarrassment of choice, and for me this one is near the top of the list. Thanks again.
Great one mr Flyer! I guess this bike is in many ways similar to the CB650R in terms of fork, brakes and suspension. Which are all well. I had one a couple of years ago, and I noticed that the surface on the wheels were quite "soft". After 20 000km there were several scratches and holes through the surface from stones, and especially at the rear wheel, marks from my lock. It was a chainlock in soft fabric. I did my best not to scratch...but there were marks all over. I ended up painting the wheels. Now, I don't suggest you go on with a screwdriver just to test! But keep an eye on those wheels! Cheers!
Good review Andy. For the "what's it's like to live with" video, I would like to know what vibes there are at different revs. Many of the twins have vibes through the pegs, bars or saddle. Some say characterful but not good for me, mentioning no makes 😁 cheers
This bike like many of today's motorcycles needs a longer front fender. Those headers will be toast after one winter season. If I lived in the UK I'd be hesitant for tail tidy after all the huge UK license plate is humongous. 😁😁 Thanks for the review.
Yes, that's a jolly good idea. I am looking to move up from a CB500F and now I can't decide which new bike would be best for me, the new Hornet or the CB650R.
@@martinrea8548 the cb650r is incredibly beautiful and it seems manufacturers have forgotten how much that matters. There will always be Hornet type bikes on the market. We don't know how many more cb650r's there will be going forward.
Not ridden one, but it's not pulling me in. I think if I was in this market, I'd grab the last of the 4 pot screamers CB650R or CBR650R. I miss the old 4 cylinder middleweights.
Hi Andy, if you think the new Hornet is good try and get a ride on an original 600 with the slightly detuned CBR 4 cylinder engine. Revving to a 13000 rpm red line, when the revs hit 8000 it was like hitting a hyperspace button. I owned one back in 2000, the early 16” wheel model that was quicker to turn in and had more power than the later bikes (94bhp). They were a fantastic fun machine that didn’t cost a fortune, and were quicker and better handling than the Suzuki Bandit 600.
I applaud you for testing this in grotty, wintery and potholed old England rather than in the warm, smooth splendour of the Andalusian hills. Much more informative for us but less fun for you I’m sure.
Nice review Andy, been waiting for you to get on the hornet. I hope you don’t find something bad haha. It looks great with so much standard stuff that you don’t get on the competitors. I would for you to show us that tft screen whilst your in the garage so we can see the different functions etc and also, what is the real world mpg from that lovely 750 engine 👍🏻
Since you'll be having the bike for a week, could you please show how the compartment under the seat looks like? Are there two compartments, one under each seat? I'm curios to know if you could fit a first aid kit somewhere in there. Oh, and thanks for the review!
I test drove it yesterday and have to say it's just an absolutely amazing package. It's so incredibly much bike for the price, it's just bizarre. And no it won't beat the big bikes at a dragrace, it won't draw the eyes when you're following a big 4 cil liter bike or such, but all of it just works so well. It's balanced beautifully with a little bit of everything; bit of power, bit of comfort, bit of looks, bit of exhaust note.... Honda basically went back to what they have done best for a long long time: making great bikes for small prices giving big fun with average character. I'm a fan :)
Andy, you spent the whole road test. of the Hornet riding in the dirtiest part of the road, and even cornered and brake tested there .I would have ridden in the clean track cars have left inside the white line. Most of the salt is still lying there also. I enjoy your videos so stay safe.Richard Cottingham.
I have seen the bike in the flesh, and looks much better than in youtube videos. TFT is superb, sounds good, has more than enough electronics, comfortable position and suits my 6.2 body frame with no problem. But... the bike's look doesn't give me the WOW factor, and I think we should buy the bikes with heart. Look at our purchase and admire the look even without riding it. I tested xsr900 yesterday, and here are my 5cent on the current bikes: 1. Cruise control is not needed until you do motorways, and even then, it doesn't convince me. 2. Quick shifter, again, is not needed until you do track days or motorways. 3. 100hp is more than enough for 99% of riders 4. and the biggest surprise for me, naked bikes are completely fine without the screen, up to the legal speed limits, of course To sum up, buy the bike you like cause even RE 350cc is good enough nowadays.
Just ordered one of these today. I really wanted a trident but after a ride on a tigersport 660 I went off the idea. The engine in this is much more fun on the road. Loved it and for £7000 a complete bargain.
I’ve always liked the look of the hornets, and this no different. I see what you mean about the front end, it’s a bit like the transformers emblem, but I still like it better than the bug eyes of the streetfighter, or the speed triple, or of course the KTMs. Sub £7k is an amazing price for so much bike too. Be interested to see what Mrs flyer reckons on the pillion. I think Honda is becoming cool again. Do you reckon Ducati should bring back their 600’s to compete in this segment? Always good reviews, but sounded like you were in a hurry on this one, maybe to make the most of the window in the weather 😃👍, and I’d be really interested in a few gear reviews.
The huge dustbin exhausts on these newer bikes are a strange direction to take designwise taking up way to much attention from the bike/rear wheel (just my opinion) I agree though inthe end you fall in love with the character after riding sod the looks!
Think I'll wait for the CL750 and the GB750 variants....you're right about the press,my uncle,Bill Rae,never entertained then, called a spade a spade, criticised anything that needed calling out, hence he's one of Scotland's all time top bike racers that not many have heard of...3 podiums on the I.o.M in the World Championships, and the rest!(Tony Rutter's passing made the media, Bill used to beat him, though Phil Mellor's son sent us a lovely message on Bill's passing in 2014...noticed by some). Stay true!
This is a nice bike. I have a 4 cylinder bike but do like the modern 270 p-twins. This Honda really wins on price/value - and I think will be a success on that alone
@@mariarusso1155 i'm not interested or offended but my lady might be. Thanks anyway. No offence, but you're either desperate or a scammer - or maybe both. There are plenty of dating apps out there for you. Best of luck. This is a motorbike page, not a dating forum
No doubt it will sell well. It’s priced competitively compared to the Honda 750 Transalp. However, your video confirms my fears this will be a bike that’s difficult to keep clean. A longer front mudguard and a rear hugger should’ve been standard-fit. The metallic red frame won’t look so good if corrosion quickly sets in.
To me the Hornet, along with the MT-07 and the Suzuki GSX-8S is the new UJM. These are bikes that do everything well, and the Hornet in particular is very well priced. To my mind there is nothing wrong with the looks. I think it's far better looking than the Trident, and I'd rate it as better looking than either the MT-07, and the GSX-8S, so it competes well in its segment. The other bike I might consider just because it would be cheaper, would be the SV-650.
I shall probably buy the bike (yellow). If I do, I'll convert a bin bag to put over that appalling headlight so I won't look at it by accident. It's not the best looker overall, you're correct - about as inspiring as the 500s - which are also v good bikes.
The camera work was rather good and in particular the way we could see everything behind very clearly in the mirrors. This was a well done review. Can’t wait to see that bike in person, that and the new Suzuki competitor as well.
Yeah it looks like a Japanese middle of the road mid range naked bike from ten years ago…..it looks like it should be a 4 cyl but it’s a twin!….if Honda bring out a round headlight retro version then it will have looks and a cracking engine! 👍
With you all the way with the front end Andy, The cost is quite good, just wish it would have a 4 cylinder engine, twins are fine but not my favoured configuration
Great review and thanks again for taking the time to do the review. Does information on the screen have a gear indicator? Would you also think if a small screen would fit on the front to stop rubbish kicking up behind the tft like MT-07?
Cool, I didn't know these were being sold yet. Thanks for the upload. Also I'm wondering why suzuki hasn't done a full press release of the GSX-8S yet when this hornet is already out. I thought both bikes were announced at about the same time?
Another great review. Never owned a Honda. The look isn't for me but maybe a spin might be in order. Like the jacket, be looking in to that. Thank you👍
Can you turn the traction off if you wanted to wheelie it ? Would you get the quick shifter? there is also a little screen to increase the wind protection would you recommend that? You've literally got this before my local main honda dealer who get theirs tomorrow ( monday 20th)
Hi Andy, loving the reviews as always but I wish you’d go back to switching to an iPhone for the bike walkaround. All the older videos where you always did this give a much clearer view than the distortion of a GoPro.
Suggestion: when reviewing bikes from an ownership perspective, include an agents service cost and the cost of an air filter, oil filter and a set of tyres. Great review as always.
I used to do that - trouble is with new bikes it's quite hard to find out - I used to just phone a dealer and ask but in the main I think they just made it up!!

Cheers Dave!
I think a lot of people will be watching this one.....
I hope so!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Was waiting dear boy. Your reviews are great. About to look at a Tracer 7! So perfect timing. So a yellow hornet 750 in Carlisle tuther day!
Getting on for 5000 viewings after 2 hours so looking god
...it's cos I sneakily published this at a peak viewing time...but still not bad going.
Props to you for being the first. I literally can’t even see one of there in my local Honda shop.
It’s all about who you know!
If they would of put a round headlight on it I’d be interested, never been a fan of the transformer shaped headlights, but then I prefer classic bikes to new bikes.
Would like to ride one tho.
Impressive machine, it caught my attention at the bike show when I found out the price and it was a bit of a show highlight for me.
Nice first impressions video Andy. Thank you. No questions from me as you always cover these in you living with one. Great to see the fashion part back as I always watch these. 👍😎🇦🇺
My pleasure - glad you liked it!
Great work sir, some of us are very excited about this bike and appreciate your view. Looking forward to the living with vid
Stay tuned David - give me a week or two!!
Stay tuned - coming in a couple of weeks once I've had time to properly get to know her.....
Good review as usual, looks like the hornet will be a good seller. It seems that a lot riders are getting fed up with all the tech on bikes these days, I know I am it’s a case of less is more, less tech more fun 😊
Totally agree
Great review. Maybe you can compare this bike to the CB650R. I know its a different engine, inline4 but more about handling, comfort and usability. I prefer the look of the CB650R and ofcourse the sound but other than that, not sure. I’m 6,3 tall so i’m not sure which one suit me the best. Do mostly street/town comuting riding. Thanks again
Would be lovely to hear your view when comparing to 790 Duke 😊😊😊
Great review, I wonder if it is coming over too Canada. Thanks again and ride safe Andy
Thanks for a great review. For folks looking for their first big bike, there’s an embarrassment of choice, and for me this one is near the top of the list. Thanks again.
That red frame reminds me of the old VT 250 from the 80's!
Cheers!
Love your videos! Will be interesting to see how it compares to the new Suzuki GSX-8S
Good review Andy. For the "what's it's like to live with" video, I would like to know what vibes there are at different revs. Many of the twins have vibes through the pegs, bars or saddle. Some say characterful but not good for me, mentioning no makes 😁 cheers
Noted!
Great review Andy, got a fair bit of crud over it for such a short ride should keep you busy with the jet wash & sponge.
You got that right!
This bike like many of today's motorcycles needs a longer front fender. Those headers will be toast after one winter season. If I lived in the UK I'd be hesitant for tail tidy after all the huge UK license plate is humongous. 😁😁
Thanks for the review.
If Honda releases a retro Verson of this, I’d buy it in a heartbeat
There is a retro version of the 500, so I don't think this dream is too far off.
They might drop one after dropping a cbr version of this one.
I think a comparison between this one, the MT-07, Trident and even the CB650R would be very nice
I aim to serve!
In terms of things you don't normally have time for in a review window, perhaps a short night ride to test the headlight and dash clarity?
Yes - already "in the can" for my in-epth review coming soon!
2011 Hornet owner....love my bike bought from new......first review of the new iteration ive seen...look forward to the review
Noted - cheers!
Since you'll be having the bike for a week, could you please show how the compartment under the seat looks like? Are there two compartments, one under each seat? I'm curios to know if you could fit a first aid kit somewhere in there. Oh, and thanks for the review!
Will do! Stay tuned....
Good isn’t it!
I have had a pair of these PMJ's for a a couple of summers and they are great.
I tested xsr900 yesterday, and here are my 5cent on the current bikes:
1. Cruise control is not needed until you do motorways, and even then, it doesn't convince me.
2. Quick shifter, again, is not needed until you do track days or motorways.
3. 100hp is more than enough for 99% of riders
4. and the biggest surprise for me, naked bikes are completely fine without the screen, up to the legal speed limits, of course
To sum up, buy the bike you like cause even RE 350cc is good enough nowadays.
Couldn't agree more!
Very tempted by this as I move into big bikes. The price is something you can't ignore.
Just ordered one of these today. I really wanted a trident but after a ride on a tigersport 660 I went off the idea. The engine in this is much more fun on the road. Loved it and for £7000 a complete bargain.
Have fun!
Indeed it was a winbdow on the weather thing!!
The huge dustbin exhausts on these newer bikes are a strange direction to take designwise taking up way to much attention from the bike/rear wheel (just my opinion) I agree though inthe end you fall in love with the character after riding sod the looks!
Be interested to hear how this compares to the trident 660? Any thoughts 🤔
Stay true!
Nice one!
This is a nice bike. I have a 4 cylinder bike but do like the modern 270 p-twins. This Honda really wins on price/value - and I think will be a success on that alone
Hi Bob how are you 😊
@@mariarusso1155 ok, that's a strange question but yeah i'm doing ok thanks
@@Bob-tq2jv I hope you’re not offended Bob? Just looking for a new friend and I came across your pic here.
Hugger companies have to make a living, and the tail tidy companies, and the slip on exhaust companies,
My neigbour, riding buddy has one, great deal and he keeps up with my SDR quite nicely, excellent engine
Yes I really love the SV650 too - although I guess looking a bit long in the tooth now compared to the Hornet, MT07, etc
I shall probably buy the bike (yellow). If I do, I'll convert a bin bag to put over that appalling headlight so I won't look at it by accident. It's not the best looker overall, you're correct - about as inspiring as the 500s - which are also v good bikes.
Good effort this week Andy, i think that’s 3 videos so far! I sense spring in the air
...another coming first thing tomorrow!
The camera work was rather good and in particular the way we could see everything behind very clearly in the mirrors. This was a well done review. Can’t wait to see that bike in person, that and the new Suzuki competitor as well.
Awesome, thank you!
Ordered mine in the same colour as one you’re riding + a quick shifter, looking forward to collecting in early March
Congratulations!
Yeah it looks like a Japanese middle of the road mid range naked bike from ten years ago…..it looks like it should be a 4 cyl but it’s a twin!….if Honda bring out a round headlight retro version then it will have looks and a cracking engine! 👍
"It's not how they look It's how they ride" is an adage that has served me well for both bikes and girls over the years. 🤣🤣🤣
I couldn't possibly comment....
With you all the way with the front end Andy, The cost is quite good, just wish it would have a 4 cylinder engine, twins are fine but not my favoured configuration
Like the fact that it's a 750 parallel twin. If they made it in a 70s-80's UJM styled bike I would definitely be interested.
I agree from Australia.
I really like the look of the Hornet. Enjoyed this review as well.
the elephant in the room to me is that the world moving from inline 4 to 2 cyl paralels :(
Kawasaki's new zxr400 is an inline 4 cylinder. Should be good.
I hope they sell a lot of them. In turn, I hope they come out with a contender for the Hayabusa / ZX14, a revamped Blackbird would be so fantastic!
Great review and thanks again for taking the time to do the review.
Does information on the screen have a gear indicator? Would you also think if a small screen would fit on the front to stop rubbish kicking up behind the tft like MT-07?
Yes it does have a gear indicator....
A bike I would consider buying. Thanks for a great review-as usual!
Thanks for watching!
I've just ordered a Transalp so this review was of interest to me. Given that engine and chassis is the same I think I've made the right choice.
I think you very likely have!
Cool, I didn't know these were being sold yet. Thanks for the upload. Also I'm wondering why suzuki hasn't done a full press release of the GSX-8S yet when this hornet is already out. I thought both bikes were announced at about the same time?
Good question!
0:03, Well said Sir !
Well paused sir!
Waiting on the Transalp sometime this year. In USA Maybe never. Who knows. Good review mate
I had a 1998 Hornet many many moons ago.
Turned on a sixpence.
The absolute best fun I ever had on two wheels.
Looks a winner from Honda,,can’t wait to see what the transalp is like
Me neither....
It’s all about who you know!
Hi Andy, loving the reviews as always but I wish you’d go back to switching to an iPhone for the bike walkaround. All the older videos where you always did this give a much clearer view than the distortion of a GoPro.
WOW! Lucky me, and you're Andy are you.... 😘🤔😄
Suggestion: when reviewing bikes from an ownership perspective, include an agents service cost and the cost of an air filter, oil filter and a set of tyres. Great review as always.
Yes, I was going to ask TMF if he would kindly cover ownership costs.
I used to do that - trouble is with new bikes it's quite hard to find out - I used to just phone a dealer and ask but in the main I think they just made it up!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Haha. Fair enough, I suppose if we really want to know that badly we should be prepared to do the legwork ourselves! 😀
I was hoping you’d be reviewing the Hornet. It’s definitely a bike I’m interested in. Hopefully we’ll get it soon here in the U.S. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for a great review. Helps a lot. Thinking on getting the cb750 hornet coming from an cb500f :)
The TFT looks very clean
