Thank you so much for posting this. I bought these and I don't have a handyman. I figured watching a video would help me. I knew nothing about studs, finding them or anything else. You made this such a breeze for me. Really appreciate your work!
Ikea has a section near the returns area where they have a huge shelf with screw, nuts, bolts, and every other hardware that usually goes with their furniture. It's provided for if you are missing hardware. I think if you take a look maybe you will find screws for the ekby bjarnum. I know it doesnt come with screws but maybe you can find one that works.
It is preferable, but not essential You fix the brackets to the studs. I have four of these brackets in my house and they have all gone straight into the drywall with appropriate drywall fixings. They are solid and they are not going anywhere. In the uk, any diy store will be able to supply medium or heavy duty drywall fixings. To be honest, I think you would have made a neater job with drywall fixings on the left hand side of your brackets, the shelves would be able to fit tightly into the brackets instead of the gap you have at each end.
How thick are the shelves you used with the Ekby Bjarnum brackets and did you buy them at IKEA? I want to use these brackets, but I couldn't find info on IKEA's website about the shelves that pair with them.
They are countersink wood screws. I think they were about 1-3/4" or 2" long. Just bring the bracket into the hardware store with you so you can put the screw in the bracket and see if it fits nicely. Be sure to get the right color so it does not look odd.
Which screwdriver are you using? Is it some sort of electric screwdriver? It seems very heavy-duty! I doubt if a regular screwdriver will be able to do the same job...

So good to see I'm not the only one who makes adjustments in mid install. Thanks for the video!
So, funny, I was about to ask if IKEA supplies screws and you answered a second before. Thanks for this video, very detailed and understandable.
You had a stud detector and you didn't point it at yourself, I'm disappointed
You could use strong magnets to locate the stud nails too.

Thanks for sharing--this is super helpful! Gotta go back to Home Depot for the actual wall screws 😆

what screws did you use to drill the bracket into the wall, ikea doesn't provide them and I don't know which ones to buy.
very clever idea for beds! for the brackets what size screws do u use ( unfortunately i lost the screws which came with my packet!) thanks! :)
what kind of screws are you using? I'm trying to install the same shelves and I'm unsure what kind of screws to purchase.

Ikea not making these shelves in length * `16" is such a crock. Like they make them just a bit too short on purpose
