- Welcome to my latest vlog, a journey months in the making! I've held this news close to my heart, allowing myself and my dear family the time to properly process and move forward. Join me as I share the ups and downs of our decision-making process.
Throughout these months, I've navigated unexpected delays and challenges that have demanded a lot patience, kindness to myself and my family, and plenty of determination. I've documented each step of our journey, from debating designs and plans, to facing the emotional realities of leaving behind cherished memories. It's been a profound experience balancing the practicalities of relocation with the emotional weight of bidding farewell to our current home, but I’m looking forward and am so excited to see what the future holds.
For me, this vlog is more than just a documentation of decisions; it's a reflection of resilience and growth. I've shared candid insights into the complexities of managing business responsibilities, motherhood, and the logistics of moving house. It's a journey that's taught me the importance of taking time to process change and make decisions that align with our family's future. I'm incredibly excited about the opportunities our new home holds - it's more than just a change of scenery; it's a chance to create new memories and a space that reflects our family's aspirations.

My darling friend thank you so much for sharing this honest, challenging and real chapter with everyone. We all love home, food, gathering and making everything beautiful however it takes so much for us to get there. This is the reality of what it takes to re create your foundation as life moves on and changes and not enough of us are willing to share the hard truths. Your resilience and heart are already making a difference for so many that are feeling like they are in a similar chapter or might be headed there. Charlie, I am in awe of your emotional intelligence! Be as kind to yourself as you are to others (this is something a patient said to me once). I went through something similar. Your new house is magical. As you said, your friend lost her husband. You have a wonderful husband and children and, as you said, you are doing this for the right reasons. Your approach so far has been self-aware and healthy. These events make our bodies and minds spin. Day-by-day. Maybe use the outside buildings as storage? For a "not yet" items. Videos on solutions - how to use of smaller spaces are so popular and needed on utube. Documenting and share at a later date, if you want, as you have done, is a good approach. I see you having a wonderful career in psychology. Well I hope so. When things settle, as they will. Hugs meantime. Ax

I have been out of the loop for a bit and I am just catching up on your videos. I have such a good feeling about this move for you and your family. I truly believe that we have all have struggles in life and sometimes they are bigger than others. What we chose to do in those times test our merit, convictions, and beliefs. You will come out the other side of this with a better understanding of who you are and what you stand for. I believe this is a blessing and admire your fortitude. ❤

Oh Charlie, what a bittersweet time! ❤ I completely understand the ups and downs of all the emotions, please know that you are not alone in this. So many of us have had to also make difficult financial and life decisions after Covid and global factors out of our control. It’s absolutely valid to feel both ends of emotions at the same time - sadness and happiness can coexist, nervousness and excitement can coexist. There is no right or wrong way, and it’s absolutely valid to experience grieving the loss of the home you thought you’d be in forever. God only gives us what we can handle, and everything for a reason. What a blessing that you had so many years in your home to look back on with lovely fond memories. Congratulations on this new chapter and on your beautiful new home! I so look forward to watching more videos and learning more about the design and moving process, and looking forward to future videos in your lovely new garden. Your authenticity and honesty is so refreshing. There’s no use living in the perfect house but your under pressure financially to keep all the balls in the air. Hopefully this will release some pressure and you can enjoy life . We only get one turn around this planet so enjoy it 🍀

Absolutely the right decision. Your new home is very lovely and the views are amazing. Changes are always very hard. Here in Germany we say; one door closes and another opens. It will be a lovely home for your family, horses and dogs. Even the chickens have a spacious new home ❤
Hi dear Charlie, I hear the emotion in your voice, and it makes sense you are emotional - leaving the home you raised your babies in is another grieving process further augmented by your father’s recent death. You are so brave to share it all with your adoring friends from all over the world! I am also a fan of settling in and nesting - BUT, I LOVE that you are focusing on the future - the excitement and adventure of establishing a new home that better meets the needs of your more mature family! I loved hearing about the teen gatherings and family parties you are envisioning. It really will be wonderful and I promise you’ll look back sooner than you think and be so glad you made the change. Ah Charlie, I can fully appreciate how hard this must all be for you, leaving your beautiful home, for another beautiful home, albeit smaller and perhaps with less amenities. The main thing is, you are all together and where ever you are all together ….mansion or shed….its your family that truly makes a house a home.

Wow that's a lot on your shoulders so far this year. You're definitely making the right decision. As you said it will take away a lot of stress from Simon and you. The children will be fine as it's a new adventure and they will quickly adapt.. Family is everything.
We've been trying to move for 18 months. We've sold 4 times but people along the chains have pulled out leaving us back at square one each time. I totally understand all the emotions you have described.

This resonates so much with me. I lost my father, my business, my home and my dog within a few months of each other. I’ve learnt that your home is where your family and belongings are, once they have gone, it’s just 4 walls. Change is never easy but as your friend said ‘nothing changes if nothing changes’ ……such a good motto! Wishing you love and laughter in your new home!

Leaving a home where you have made happy lifelong memories is always difficult and you have shown your usual grace and kindness in sharing these challenging times with us all. I know exactly how you are feeling - my family sold my childhood home at the end of June and we moved from Bath in Somerset to Scotland. It was a necessary move, but the day we got the keys I was looking for different houses to move to straight away! I'm not a crier, but in the week we travelled up here and arrived, I don't think I've cried this much since my childhood dog died over ten years ago!!
Change is so scary but I admire your candour, and it's nice to know other people feel the same way when circumstances change. Love and prayers for you and your family as you navigate this transition with grace, as ever xxx

This made me cry, I’ve been feeling very much alone going through a difficult time feeling like I’m the only one. Everything online now seems to be all about how well people are doing, and when you’re not in the same place yourself, it’s gut wrenching. So thank you for being so honest ❤

I know how you’re feeling Charlie. We’ve had similar experiences of being carers, then both my parents passed away resulting in selling property all at once in the last 18 months. Then also being carers before that for a few years through the pandemic as well. It’s been a very tough and very stressful and it’s exhausting. I can really empathise with you and your situation.
You’ll make your new property into a lovely, happy family home though and you’ll be pleased that you made the right decision for you all. It’ll be daunting and hard work but you’ve got time and health on your side. Hope it all goes well. xx

Wishing you the best on your new journey. Change is extreemly hard especially when you thought you had your future all planned out in your head. We moved across the county in September 2018 not knowing a soul in the new state. Yes, it has been difficult adjusting to a new culture, new traffic (ugh) but it has been so worth it. We as a family, have grown leaps and bounds and now I know for sure that I can handle big challenges. The positives of the challenges includes both mental and spiritual maturity which is always good. Just my two cents, but hope it brings you some encouragement.

Charlie I admire how well you handle the challenges in life. You seem to have one after another and yet you find the strength to move forward, find solutions. A few years ago we moved to be near our son due to my husbands failing health. I had a very special friend that helped me go through belongings and pack. Change is always scary. Our lives turned upside down 5 years ago & then I got very very unwell. At times I wasn’t sure how I would get through it & I had 3 young teenagers looking at me needing a present parent. It’s ok to not be ok & struggle. It’s ok to ask for help. ❤. You more than anyone knows that your health is the most important thing. And you have a wonderful husband & children. Wishing you the best & thank you for sharing with us. Oh my goodness Charlie, that was an emotional roller coaster of a watch. A very hard decision to make but one friends of mine made many years ago & it has worked very well for them. You obviously have lovely landlords who want to keep you happily there long term which is so reassuring for you. The house looks gorgeous & I can’t wait to see you in it with all your lovely things around you. What a first half of the year you’ve had & I totally get your thinking in keeping things private, I am the same & find it easier to deal with things without kindly meant but draining sympathy from others. Hello Charlie - Wow, what a heartfelt vlog! The most poignant part was you stating that you and your husband are in it together - holding each other up and loving each other for better or worse! Such a testimony to your faith and character which in my book makes you one of the best RUclipsrs I watch! I can’t imagine how hard it is to leave a home that you thought would be your forever home but your new place looks amazing! That big open structure is going to be great for you, I can see you teaching in there!?!? 🤷🏻♀️. You know it’s going to be okay - and sometimes less is more 😊! Best wishes for a successful move! PS - I have green in my kitchen and get many compliments - it’s called Green Willow from Valspar UK. I will never get tired of the color!

What a wonderful new adventure awaits you Charlie. I'm sure you will make your new home just as lovely as your old one - it is certainly in a beautiful location and has amazing bones. We moved our family to France for a three year posting in April as, like you, a changed economy impacted my husband's work and God provided a wonderful solution. I understand the need to keep things confidential too as we have had a challenging year with the death of a young relative and my father having a major stroke . Only two of my friends know what has happened as I just haven't had the bandwidth to discuss it and keep some semblance of 'normality' for my children. In terms of moving, we decluttered like mad things in the two months, or more accurately the last three weeks, before we left as we had limited air freight and long term storage. I was amazed at what I was able to let go of when the reality of being without it for three years presented itself but the letting go was a grieving process in itself - a realisation that our children are growing up. Living in a rental after living in your own home does have its challenges (we have a 'furnished' rental which is not furnished the way I would choose...) but when weighed against other options this was infinitely the best choice. Best foot forward Charlie, you have this!

In admiration of your gracious humility that what looms large for you and your family is "the small stuff" compared to what some endure - brava! You will not regret your move I'm sure - Can't wait to see your house transformed into a home (good luck with the AGA too - I'm a masive fan, it make s a home, and have had 4 in different homes but my recent one was 'an arm and a leg').

I’ve clearly not been catching up on our Members club vlogs so I am very sad but excited for you and your family. The new home looks lovely and I’m sure you will make it beautiful. Having just lost my Mum, life feels so fragile so we have to look after ourselves and loved ones. It’s easy to say these things but goodness very different to acting upon them. I will follow your vlogs with anticipation and wish you and your family lots of love and courage. It’s like you feel so in between neither belonging to either homes but in 6 months imagine beautiful things to come.😊😊

We are in the process of preparing our cottage to be put on the market after twenty-three years. I'm finding it very scary, we want to move away from Surrey to the Cotswolds.
You may have already thought of this but I was thinking maybe you could use one of the outbuildings or maybe the cellar if there's pipework, for a laundry room that would then free some space for you.
I have a laundry room in an outbuilding, it's insulated with a tiled terracotta floor, I keep my upright freezer in there and my washing machine, it's also shelved for more storage.

It may be that your audience can quadruple in a few months. Less stress, fewer objects to contend with and take care of... the beneficial effects are a multitude. How I can relate to all of this and how brave you are to share this. We also have struggled financially and adore our place. The thought of leaving is heartbreaking. I truly hope we do not ever get that point. The thought of moving everything is daunting, which I'm sure is what you're experiencing.
But what a beautiful place you are moving to. I am also in the same camp that things happen for a reason and that there is a season for all we experience. Your decisions came at the right time and you're landing in an idyllic setting. How lucky and what good timing.
But I also understand the heart and love your poured into curating your, now, old place and how hard it is to leave that. But again, as you said, first world problems. You're all healthy, love each other and you will make this new space more beautiful than the last. And the property owner, I'm sure, knows you will take immaculate care of the property. And what a relief for him.

Wow Charlie,it’s a lot to take in just watching on tv.When you have moved all your belongings into the new house it will feel like home and I think you will be too busy organising your furniture etc to think too much about your old home.Family and your own belongings is your home and you can start making new memories.The new house is gorgeous and I’m sure you will have lots of fun,especially in your beautiful garden.I didn’t hear any mention of the horses,so I’m hoping they are moving with you?

What a journey you are on! Terrifying, exciting, emotional all at the same time! We are going through a similar one, big move for us from Cheshire to the Lake District. We are downsizing too and have just finished a renovation, stress levels are high!! We too are waiting to exchange on our house so I understand that bit too! I'm also experiencing'mum guilt' as we are leaving our girls behind, but they are living their own lives now and it's time for us to do the same. Exciting times are ahead, it's just getting through the actual move first!
But how lucky are we?! We get to live the lives we want to live in the most beautiful of places!
I can't wait to see more of your garden, mine is much smaller and completely trashed after 9 months of building work so I need some inspiration!😂

There were several times that you said ‘change is scary’, I turned that around a few years back to ‘change is good’ and it really helped - as your friend said, nothing changes until something changes - as long as you are all together, anywhere can be home (and the new house does, indeed, seem magical) Good luck!
