@@CoyoteFTW it simply doesn’t make sense to me. You mean to tell me that Ford was building ALUMINUM blocks in 2005 that could make 3000 horsepower without cracking and putting them into production cars? That doesn’t seem physically possible. The real secret to a high performance engine (as GM has discovered finally) is to abandon the push rod actuation of the valve train, either a Desmodromic, or chain driven DOHC layout with 4 valves per cylinder (to enable an ideal breathing cycle) gives the best results. This layout also removes the need to keep increasing the engine's capacity (and weight) by giving the ability for much higher revs. The DOHC chain driven system, precludes valve float, allowing for a smaller capacity engine to rev much higher. As demonstrated in GM's Corvette. This is hardly a secret really, it is simply that the USA has long taken a different direction, owing to the extraordinary low prices for fuel. The forced induction path is also an excellent approach, but again, with a smaller capacity engine, a higher revving unit can still deliver high torque and HP outputs.

He and Sid Chiang were working on Petunia with Chelsea Lau as studio Chief (or maybe she was just a manager at the time). Both Sid and Camillo did some very aggressive and modern design proposals. J Mays didn't want to go new with it. J wanted to go retro. It's a shame that the world will never see what Sid and Camilo actually wanted to do. One earlier iteration of the retro version of the GT design had a much shorter front overhang and smaller more compact proportions overall. It still housed all the mechanicals that eventually ended up in the production car but the smaller car would have been faster and lighter. J didn't like it because it looked less impressive so they added the extra length. J sent a lot of good design work back into the clay oven.

Ford's biggest mistake was installing an overrated, disappointing "Ecoboost" V6 in the 2017-2020 models. They do not compare to the great Ford GT of 2004-06. That robust, intensely engineered supercharged V8 was the best thing that happened to Ford. And that is why the Ford GT from 2004-06 remains the greatest production car ever made by Ford.

The Ford Modular is the most underappreciated engine around. And im not saying that just because I'm a Ford guy. They were underpowered in the Mustang because of the small displacement and rpm requirements from being an OHC. Ford had their own aftermarket parts to make it more powerful. The aftermarket can make the 4.6 get close to Coyote hp easily N/A. And they sound great. But where they shine is in boost because it eats the boost like no other engine does. The power bands are smooth and stream line giving you the low torque and high ram power that makes the engine a rocket engine.
