The cashew milk So Delicious brand is the creamiest and best I’ve had so far. The chocolate brownie version helps me get my traditional Dairy Queen blizzard fix.
Their caramel one is incredible!
I agree the cashew based ones are creamier and good.
nice bot/ad
@@reyofsunshine7171 yes! Carmel is better than most "real" ice cream I've had. Try it Bridget!
I haven't eaten dairy in over a decade, but I still remember the flavors and textures. I find the So Delicious and the Ben & Jerry's vegan brands to be superior to dairy.
Thank you for the non dairy tastings. I am lactose intolerant and would like to see non-dairy cheese testing, too.
Some of the best ice cream I've had was vegan. Extremely creamy and rich. It was from a smaller "artisanal" manufacturer though. Earthy flavors like chocolate, coffee, etc., work very well with a nut-based ice cream. Also just having the plain nut flavors is great, toasted almond ice cream is fantastic.
Tried making coconut-based ice cream myself once but it got grainy and rock hard - I have a few ideas on how to fix that though.
I get my mom(who generally has tummy issues with real ice creams) a local brand called Clementine's. They make all sorts of ice creams(nice or naughty, aka made with alcohol), sorbets and they make some good vegan ice creams. Pricey, yes. It just makes (cheap-o) me savor it, instead of inhaling it.
Interesting, you didn't seem to include a cashew based ice cream. I find those to have that perfect ice cream texture.
I like several of Ben & Jerry's vegan flavors, especially the brownie one. My all-time favorite is So Delicious vanilla soy ice cream, but that has all but disappeared in favor of coconut, almond, and cashew versions. I'd have a scoop of it with the Ben & Jerry's brownie flavor to balance it a bit.
The Cado Chocolate Avocado ice cream is amazing, it is so rich and super creamy!!
I'm surprised my go-tos aren't even on the list! SO Delicious Wondermilk, Ben & Jerry's, Oatly, Van Leewen
This is not the real taste test. This is a "taste test" for TV (and now RUclips) where Jack choses a limited number of brands from the actual taste test and occasionally includes a "ringer" whether it's a full fat product to a light product challenge (or vice versa) or a homemade recipe to a prepared product to try and trip the hosts up. This is no different. The actual taste test (*link provided*) was comprised of ten brands - including choices from most of the brands you mentioned.
@@sandrah7512 Right. But my surprise was that the winners weren't any of the brands I listed.
@@1998tkhri They liked and recommended the Oatly. They kind of liked the Ben & Jerry's, but thought the chocolate was a bit weak so another flavour might be better. Don't know what factors caused them to select (and only select) the coconut milk version of So Delicious, but even though they liked the creaminess of the coconut base, the coconut taste was too pronounced and they did not end up recommending it. Not sure why Van Leewen was not included but ATK typically choses nationally-available best-sellers, but as the taste test was conducted last year, product availability may have been a factor.
Chocolate ice cream isn't my favorite, but the best chocolate ice cream I have ever had was the Van Leeuwen's vegan chocolate ice cream.
I so enjoy you two lovely ladies!
Jeni’s Texas Sheet Cake is my all time favorite dairy free. Absolutely insane how creamy and chcolatey it is. Just had it yesterday!!
I love Americas Test Kitchen! It is one of the best cooking shows out there in my opinion!
Oatly is by far the best non-dairy ice cream. Please add this to your testing.
They already did. The full test result is in the description. It was recommended.
nice bot/ad..
@@KaltoriaZ I doubt it's a bot given how much people in the vegan community (myself absolutely included) rave about oatly products. It's one of those companies that kinda reaches cult status.
@@cosmos9688 Nice! I wonder why they didn't mention it in the video?
"I still think I won."
"I know you do."
Some of my favorite banter ever!
So the real ice cream was their fave, and the coconut tasting one (not just plain chocolate) was #2. I feel so many were not represented here.
If you'd clicked the provided link to the full review, you'd know there were a total of ten brands tested.
Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie non-dairy sprinkled with Maldon sea salt is a revelation.🙌🏾🥰
So many great vegan choices were left out of this. Cocoa Bliss, So Delicious, even Ben and Jerry's.
??? And those brands were all included in the actual taste test. 🤦🏼♀(link provided) 🤷🏼♀
@@sandrah7512 You're right, I see it now that I'm on my computer. Thanks for bring it to my attention. I'll have to try Jeni's.
Wouldn't be possible to list them all would it. It's a really great problem to have.
I've tried them all and COFFEE CADO IS THE BEST !
They look silky smooth
Try So delicious Cashew ice cream, it will beat all those options.
I'd like to know what was not great about 'Cado'. I've had their dark chocolate and it was absolutely delicious, especially compared to Halo Top and other brands. It was soft, chocolatey, rich, and I couldn't taste the avocado.
Here's what they said in their review: "The base of this ice cream is made from avocados, which naturally contain a significant amount of fat, giving this sample the most fat per serving in our lineup. Though its 'creamy,' 'silky' texture won over many tasters, its avocado-chocolate flavor was off-putting to most."
@@andrew.pendleton Thank you. I could never really taste the avocado in it. I'm wondering if they were blind tastings or if people knew they were eating avocado based ice cream and already had a pre-bias to try and taste it.
Try Brave Robot: real milk, animal-free, creamy
+1 for that, was hoping that was #4 or a similar non-animal sourced dairy ice cream
I wish they had included this brand. I tried the plain vanilla and it was very good, finally I was able to have vanilla ice cream that’s still vegan that didn’t taste like coconut (not that I dislike coconut).
"real milk" is never vegan...or never even vegetarian.
@@artemisiagentileschi2400 Brave Robot is actually made using lab grown whey, so it is "real" cow milk but without the cow! Totally vegan :)
@@artemisiagentileschi2400 Why is it never vegan? They claim they're recreating dairy in a lab. If it's the exact same end-product, they're making real milk
thanks for making me laugh, I needed that
Please rate lactose-free dairy ice creams! There are some new ones on the market. My favorites are Lactaid and Beckon (expensive).
Bryers is my favorite Lactose free Ice Cream, but then again it ain't vegan, it's real dairy, so that would be why it wasn't in this test. Also, in my area ALL I can get is vanilla Bryers. I know they make chocolate, but no one around my area stocks it, especially Wally-World.
Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs one are my favorites. I'm not lactose intolerant but I tried them anyway and I have a few friends that are lactose intolerant and I would recommend it to them.
Cado avocado chocolate is by far the best vegan ice cream Ive ever had. & its not even my fave flavor. Wish it was cheaper.
This is great because we eat df ice cream. Currently our favorites are oat based.
I love vegan chocolate ice cream made from banana! But i enjoy banana flavor so it’s a personal taste
Not vegan but TILLAMOOK.
Their strawberry ice cream is da bomb 💣 🔥
I tried arctic zero once... it definitely deserved to lose. I would like to be able to get less (but not no!) sugar lactose-free ice cream, but it seems that's a unicorn. Lactaid brand is the best option for those trying to avoid lactose but not dairy altogether in my view; not tons of flavors but a solid grocery store midrange option. I tried a B&J's dairy free option recently... seemed thin on flavor. Not Arctic Zero thin but not worth the price either, compared to what their regular ice cream tastes like.
I wish they'd tried Ben & Jerry's, theirs is my favorite non-dairy ice creams.
They did. It wasn't their favourite (i.e. they didn't like B&J's chocolate offering).
Cashew milk is way better. Try so delicious Carmel
Mauna Loa kona coffee is sublime, it ain't chocolate but boy is it good is the best "vegan" ice cream hands down. Nancy Fancy's chocolate is also pretty good but not creamy almost feels like a chocolate ice, two spoonful and you are done. Like eating two frozen chocolate bars.
Coconut chocolate ice cream ❤
I want it
I held my mouse pointer over the thumbnail and it looked like Bridget and Julia were having an ice cream eating contest.
Aldis Coconut milk ice cream is the Best!
I agree with So Delicious cashew ice cream. It is not icy like coconut it is creamy.
nooooo!! i can't find the winner anywhere near me!!
Personally, I really like Oatly. A bit in the pricey side, but their ice cream is great.
Right? Surprised they didn’t mention this either
Original Oatly Chocolate was one of the ten brands tested (link provided). It was recommended. 🤷🏼♀
What wrong with banana ice cream?
Nothing, if you're after actual banana ice cream. The banana and other fruity flavours from the purée used to make the brand in question (Snow Monkey) dominated the chocolate. It was also hard and icy because it didn't contain much fat. It was not recommended.
Love this new format! Always loved Jack's sections, but always great to see Bridget and Julia together! 2 for 2.
This has to be the first time that both ladies are doing a taisting.
Nope - they've also gone head-to-head on prepared horseradish, prepared cranberry sauce and white chocolate chips, although I think only the prepared horseradish tasting has made it to RUclips so far.
I was hoping for Ben and Jerry's.
It wasn't one of their favourites (Chocolate Fudge Brownie was the one they tested), but it wasn't their least favourite either (link provided).
@@sandrah7512 I was hoping
stuff like this is why I no longer trust your reviews of anything.
Ben and Jerrys and Oatley are basically just like full-fat regular ice cream
But they’re still vegan. Eight of the ten brands included in the actual taste test contained comparable amounts of both fat and sugar. The two at the bottom of the rankings contained little or no fat and not as much sugar and required a chisel to portion any out because they were so hard and icy due to that lack of fat. Nobody said these desserts weren’t full fat, but they’re full plant fat.
No cream so how can you call it "ice cream"?
Because you can actually call anything whatever you want. Language is fun like that.
The actual product is called frozen dessert so you can untwist your knickers.
The best vegan chocolate ice cream is chocolate sorbet
Weight vs Volume continues to elude me. Some have tried to explain it, but I have yet to reach total clarity on when it's volume vs weight. Clearly, they don't match.
Simple, volume is the SIZE of something, or better yet, how much space a thing is taking up, whilst weight is how heavy it is. They are not the same thing.
@@johnhpalmer6098 I understand that part, but how am I to tell something needs to be weighed out instead? (sorry, no good example comes to mind)
@@robertmccoy9901 A good example is flour, best to weigh that than to try and measure it as it will vary more than say, sugar by how you how you measure it, as in, to scoop the flour will yield a certain weight that may be more than the 1 cup measurement being used, conversely, the dip and measure by using a spoon or scoop, scoop the flour into the measuring cup, then sweep it with the back of a knife will reveal a different weight that is also different from simply weighing it outright by using a scale, a bowl who's weight is tared to 0 first before weighing the flour will reveal the true measurement.
In other words, wet ingredients can be measured using measuring cups/spoons, dry weight is best weighed out is how I see it. here in the US, though in the rest of the world, often it's all measured out as the recipes are written for that in mind.
@@robertmccoy9901 I think grated hard cheese is a good example. When an ATK recipe calls for a cup of grated Parmesan cheese measured in a dry measuring cup, the actual weight of that fluffy pile of cheese is 2 oz. or about 56 grams.
Snark at the end! 🍸😂
Nice try can’t fool the girls
Hello from 401 R.I.

Q: Who's on first?
A: Third base.
The best vegan ice cream is the one you don’t buy.
Not ice cream
This is the first time I've ever "Disliked" an ATK video. I feel like the piece at the end where the best vegan ice cream was revealed to be a non-vegan ice cream was a bit of a shot at those of us that don't want to eat animal products. Basically saying "Yeah, vegan stuff is okay, but if you REALLY want flavor, you need to take baby cows away from birthing mothers so that we can make you really good ice cream". Not cool ATK
You're not as informed or as compassionate as you think.
I didn't take it as a shot against veganism at all. Acknowledging that there's a sacrifice made for ice cream (at least for now) is just accepting the truth. It's not a truth I love, but it is the truth. Your quote at the end could easily be rewritten as "yeah, vegan stuff is okay, but if you *really* want flavor, unfortunately the regular stuff is just superior right now."
The actual taste test (link provided) included ten brands and no dairy ringers.
We've eaten animals since before we were humans, get over it. As for the meat/dairy industrys cruel ways of sustaining such foods is a different argument. You're mad at the wrong people.....
Craig’s waxes all these second rate brands
This video was the straw that broke the camel’s back and made me unsubscribe.
A US-made ice cream with chocolate imported from Belgium? Can you investigate that claim? Could be from a Belgian brand made in the US.
“Frozen dessert”
How about something good without guar gum? That stuff is complete rubbish
The co-winning ice creams - Jeni's and Häagen-Dazs - do not contain guar gum (link provided, ingredients listed).
The bad news? Vegan
I love this man 🤣
Spoiler alert, they are all terrible.
Well, they do lack the blood, puss and poop that's present in all dairy ice cream,....... is that why you don't like them?
I'm going to be that guy - NOT Ice Cream. It should be labeled "Frozen Non-Dairy Dessert" at best. And yeah, if it doesn't even contain what makes good Ice Cream, then it's not good.
what a silly thing to complain about
These products always say "non-dairy" or "vegan" somewhere on the packaging. Nobody is forcing you to eat it. A lot of people are happy to have these options. Chill tf out.
Yeah, and bananas are technically a herb, but you don't spice your food up with bananas, you put it in fruit salad.
What makes for good ice cream is that it tastes like ice cream.
The absolute worst vegan ice cream I ate was a brand called Eclipse based in Oakland California. If you like the taste of cardboard this is for you. Awful!!!!!!!!
Jack, pull that crap in my house and you would meet the door!!! fun with friends
You know what really Ticks Me Off about your videos you Always use a photo for the video that includes items you never talk about in the video. The only reason I clicked on this video is that it showed that you were going to talk about Cado non-dairy ice cream. As someone who has lactose intolerance. I truly prefer Cado because it is the nearest thing to actual ice cream that i have found. I am done with this channel.
Their primary platform isn't youtube, so the youtube videos don't have their full in-depth reviews (which are found on their website and in their magazines).
Well they have enough resources to alternate photos and videos to fit the platform that they are using. They do not get a pass for laziness.
@@jasonmccall3950 I mean, it's not laziness. The photos and such already exist from their websites and such, and of course they're not going to put all their work up on RUclips for free.
@@jasonmccall3950 Just because you don't like and/or understand their business doesn't mean they're lazy.

God is an omnivore. So are we.
Isn't God supposed to be benevolent? Why would he want you to violently abuse and exploit the bodies of other sentient beings that he deliberately made with the ability to suffer and the desire to live?
@@jamesbyrne3033 Ask him when you see him why he made our teeth the way he did and gave us the skills to extinguish life painlessly.
@@AirrowRocket He made our teeth like a frugivore. You know, like all those other apes who eat a lot of fruit.
I don't need to ask him Fudd. By definition, a benevolent God couldn't possibly want you to violently abuse and exploit the body of another of his sentient creatures when you don't need to.
@@jamesbyrne3033 Sorry, no. Omnivores have sharp front teeth and molars designed for eating meat, fruits and vegetables. Frugivores have low, rounded molar cusps and dull front teeth. Move on son.
…… many other apes are frugivores and they have teeth that are much like ours except some are larger and sharper….. Our teeth are those of a frugivore. It’s as simple as that.
You’re missing the more urgent point though. By definition a benevolent God could not want you to violently exploit the bodies of other sentient beings. Only a malevolent god could want that.
You understand that, right?
Vegan ice cream is an oxymoron
Think of it like this. It's exactly like ice cream, but without any violent animal abuse or exploitation.
The best vegan ice cream...
Those words make me want to cry.
The best turkey bacon...
The best artificially flavored maple syrup...
The best vegetable barbecue...
The best high fructose corn syrup...
My severe lactose intolerance makes me cry.
But yes, substitutes when you are able to have the real thing are generally bullshit.
Relax
Being vegan means choosing to avoid violently abusing or exploiting other sentient beings when you can. So let's take another look at what you actually said in your comment.
"The best violence and cruelty free ice cream......
Those words make me want to cry."
Yeah, you sound very strange.
Absolutely NOT a fan of Ben and What's his names junk. Glad it wasn't even in the running.
It wasn't one of their favourites but it wasn't a least favourite either of the ten brands they tested.
