No. I disagree with all three of you. You dint have to love something to review it. The problem is the manufacturer set up the comparison by calling it “bacon.” It cannot ever be bacon because it’s the wrong animal. However, that is the gold standard for bacon. Even among bacon... some are better than others. So if all you wanted to know what is tolerable or even appreciated... the panel told you what they liked. The panel may not be as biased in their assessment.

It’s SO unfortunate that it was misinformation as we know now that pork fat isn’t the cause of heart disease.
What’s really sad is I recall us changing to use “mock” butters and those were full of hydrogenated oils which were the WORST for his heart disease.
I did learn some great ways to make vegetables tasty with broths and other seasonings, which I’m grateful for.

I’ve seen Wellshire products get good reviews - for example, a few years back Consumer Reports top-rated Wellshire’s kielbasa. But those good reviews are hugely frustrating, because as a practical matter, Wellshire products have been almost impossible for me to find in the stores around me. In fact, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that brand outside of Whole Foods Markets.
Note: Wellshire brand is to be distinguished from •Hillshire•. Hillshire products are much more widely marketed than Wellshire . . . but are usually ranked near the •bottom• of product ratings!

I think the problem here was that they were testing Turkey Bacon - and instead of comparing one Turkey Bacon to another - they attempted to compare it to Pork Bacon - which is a completely different product. Turkey Bacon has another disadvantage in that they deliberately make it lower fat - which is what makes Pork Bacon Flavorful and Crispy. About twice a year, we get on a Bacon kick for a couple of weeks in the house - and that is enough for about 6 months - so we are not big bacon eaters - I make my own Pork Sausage mix with (For Patties) ground pork and spices so I can control how much fat I like in it - and get the taste I want. Sometimes the sausages are way too fatty.

Test Kitchen didn't make it right. Before I got the airfryer I would put it on Bake at 400° (immediately without waiting for preheat) for 7 min. The other brands I tried remind me of spam or a terrible version of beef jerky.

Here’s the thing with turkey “bacon.”
You can’t compare it to classic pork 🥓 bacon.
It’s simply not. But if you enjoy a thin fried ham, fried Bologna, fried spam- that sorta thing- you’ll enjoy turkey bacon. We really enjoy it as a meaty alternative. The texture can be managed and make it as crisp or as tender- and use bacon grease to dry it in- not because you are trying to make it taste like bacon but because it makes it yummy like most things fried in bacon grease.
Now- I’ve stood up for my 🦃 🥓 without shame!
    Butterball is our favourite btw.

Turkey bacon is so unpopular in my area that the price of regular bacon is 6 to 7 bucks per package while the turkey bacon is hard pressed trying to sell at 3 US dollars for a package. Currently, turkey bacon is on sale at the grocery store for two bucks a pop. If you love turkey bacon, it's because you don't regard it as an actual bacon but a spicier turkey product to be used in small proportions similar to ham slices. People who love bacon want the fat flavor.

There are many reasons people choose to eat turkey bacon. However, some of us can still find some humor in the situation. I'm sorry you're not one of them.

I've worked in Supermarkets for years and as everyone should many people for various reasons, primarily religious, do not eat pork, so turkey bacon, like turkey ham, would be a viable alternative. The taste test would have been more interesting had a non pork eater done the tasting

Cannot understand why anyone subjects themselves to turkey ‘bacon’. We served it at a breakfast restaurant I managed and it is several steps past disgusting. I like Canadian bacon tho, I feel bad that it was associated with this monstrosity.

Turkey Bacon needs to be overcooked to be decent. Let it foam up and then keep flipping for a minute or two until it *almost* starts to scorch, then pat dry with a paper towel. Added sugar is the enemy of okay turkey bacon.

To approach turkey bacon as an emulation of bacon is to approach with the wrong premise.
    It’s something else that isn’t a vegetable.
Is it tasty on its own? It can be.
If bacon is what you want, turkey bacon won’t satisfy.
True the other direction, as well.
If a turkey sandwich is what you want, ham won’t do the trick.
I think ATK wasn’t adhering to their usual character in the production of this comparison.
It’s a reasonable, alternative product, that has a legitimate market for some defined reasons.
I hope they’d not do the same in a comparison of Oat Milks or Almond Milks and constantly measure them back to cow milk.

I don't like the taste of most pork products (prosciutto being the one exception), so turkey bacon is my go-to. My favorite is Oscar Mayer. I tried a couple of different brands of uncured turkey bacon and didn't care for any of them. It's too much like Canadian bacon or ham.

The cook actually smoked a cigarette while cooking the turkey bacon and didn’t wash his hand. Hence the taste.
