I get the Impossible burgers at Costco when on sale. With their sale price, it only comes out to a little more expensive than ground beef.
The Morning Star burger patties are actually very good. There are different varieties of them. Of course, this is my opinion.
I'm so glad to see this topic covered on America's Test Kitchen. I love eating meat and enjoy dining on meat alternatives equally, but until the price is equal to meat I can't say that I will make a permanent change. What I do love is textured soy and I use it in chili, as taco filling or anything requiring ground beef and no one has had anything to say negative about it. This coming from someone who is not a vegan, should mean a lot.
My husband is vegetarian and I am not. But, I happily use TVP in dishes. Lasagna soup with the TVP flavored up like spicy Italian sausage 😋 yum!
I definitely like that Amy's vegan chili. Ideally they have the low sodium version. Quorn and Boca are the go to plant based nuggets/burgers for me
Love both Impossible and Beyond Meat, not surprised they finished top two in this testing.
Surprised Gardein finished last, but I've only really tried their faux chicken products, which are pretty solid.
Chicken is easier to fake - prolly because it's about tasteless by itself.
My thoughts exactly! I really enjoy Gardein's faux chicken, General Tso's? C'mon! But that burger they were offering up looked more like a puck than a burger. I really like Impossible and Beyond though! I was so excited when Carl's Jr got them in a couple years ago!!! LOL
I love Gardein's Chicken products. Also Impossible is my favorite of the beef replacements.
I don't eat a lot of beef anymore just because it's so pricey. I think Beyond and Impossible are both great, but they actually cost more than normal beef. Once the imitation meats cost less than actual beef, you better believe I'll be eating a ton of it.
That's why the promo for test tube meat.
It's a major issue for me. Like I get that the meat industry is not sustainable and the way animals are treated on industrial farms is deeply troubling. But individual choice is a literal drop in the ocean when it comes to things like climate change. I'm not paying more for what is objectively an inferior product. Beef has already gone way up in price and is still significantly cheaper even for grass fed. I don't live in a frictionless vacuum with unlimited money.
@@mgkleym I don't think you know what the word "objectively" means. And I paid $5 for a pound of Beyond Beef the other day, there's no way in hell you're getting grass fed for that cheap.
@@mechmat12345 Impossible is 5 dollars for 12 oz at walmart or 6.64 a pound. Its 4.96 a pound for walmart's vac packed "marketside butcher" 80/20 grass fed ground. I don't know what the business side of that looks like but for some reason their grass fed ground beef has gone up in price less than their non grass fed beef.
As for it being objectively inferior it just is dude. I'd tried impossible and its fine but it's obviously an imitation especially in something like a burger where the beef is the star.
@@firstname4337 I read about that - I'm very skeptical about its accuracy.
Impossible has been my un-meat of choice. I wanted to like Beyond because it's cheaper, but besides the catfood-like smell before cooking my insides apparently just do not like pea protein, so much bloating and discomfort with any pea based meat replacement. I don't get that with Impossible though.
Quorn's meatless chiqin products using myco-protein are pretty good too.
I wish you'd included BOCA Burgers in the test. We switched from Morningstar to BOCA years ago over the taste.
I agree 100%!
The Boca burgers are heck of a lot betterbetter than Morningstar and impossible!
and Quorn. The chick'n nuggets and patties are the best
I eat all varieties of meatless products. The cheapest, most convenient, and 'healthiest' are Boca, but I can understand why they aren't for everybody. I agree that the ground 'beef' products make the best substitute since you are adding it to a pasta, rice, etc with other flavors rather than eating a big hunk of the product. Either way, I hope they keep advancing and the price comes down. Ethically and environmentally, they really are making a positive impact.
I’ve loved Boca Burgers for years. Even though I wouldn’t mistake it for beef, it is delicious and loaded with umami richness. Their “All American” burger is the best. And it very affordable compared to good ground beef.
Been eating these brands over the last 2 decades and I have to say Boca is by far the worst of all of the fake meat brands. Beyond has the best ground beef/burgers, Quorn is the best fake chicken, Loma Linda the best hotdogs, UDeli has the best deli meat, and lightlife has the best bacon in tempeh form. If you're willing to order online, I would also check out "be leaf" they have a bunch of fake seafood including sushi tuna/salmon also their chicken wings are amazing.
@@seanleja8945 Oh, I agree. Boca is just the easiest and cheapest. I mean, you can stick a patty in the microwave for a minute and you're good to go. Also agree on Quorn - love using the 'chicken' pieces with pastas and rice.
I was looking for Boca and Quorn. Their grounds actually taste beefy, while the beyond meat crumbles taste more like chalk.
Costco started selling Beyond and Impossible burgers, so when they're on sale you can beat the MSRP... but they're still more expensive per ounce than a stack of beef burgers (this may have changed with Russia's war driving up food prices).
I was quite suprised by the impossible burger. I would use it for tacos or spaghetti maybe. I might even have it as a burger on a bun. I'm still a beef eater though. I wouldn't replace my meat but I would add this product off and on.
I'm nearly 30 years old and I've been watching y'all since you first aired and I swear you haven't aged one bit.
The problem with Impossible and Beyond is the price. They are even more expensive than real meat so not something I could eat every day. I tends to prefer MorningStar farm or Boca. Their Chic'k products are very good.
MorningStar Farm's Meat Lover is their newer and more expensive products in response to Beyond/Impossible. But I actually prefer their regular Prime Griller which is a lot cheaper but also taste great maybe I'm just more used to them.
AT least MorningStar isn't trying to be a meat substitute.
It clearly says on the packaging, veggie burger.
Animals that get to live because you ate a veggie burger:. PRICELESS
Where are you shopping and how much are you paying? Beyond Meat is $7 a pound at Target.
Our local grocery has 1lb Beyond beef on sale for $4.99 a pound regularly. $6 is a more common sale (Regular price is about $8). Morningstar patties are definitely worth it when they're about $3 a box.
@@saulgoodman2018 Morningstar farms is literally the original "trying to be a meat substitute" product. They do have a product that says "veggie burgers" but "grillers", "grillers prime", "vegan burgers", "sausage links", "sausage patties", "bacon", etc. are totally fake meat. Most of their products are Seitan (wheat gluten) based.
Morningstar Farms was originally just a relabeled Worthington product: Worthington names and packages were basically something one would see in a health-food store. So they came up with some rebranding to make it "supermarket friendly". MS "grillers" are Worthington "fripats", MS bacon is Worthington "fakin'", MS sausage links are Worthington "prosage", etc.
Then Kellogg bought Worthington and eventually decided to just keep the supermarket stuff and sold the health-food stuff to Loma Linda (the "canned hotdog" people) who eventually got bought by Atlantic Natural Foods.
I bought The Impossible Burger and the Beyond Burger. They were both very good. Obviously, they don’t taste quite like meat, but if you’re trying to improve your diet, they’re pretty good.
I tried the Beyond Meat for tacos. It looked like dog food going into the pan but after I cooked it and added a simmer sauce it was pretty darn good. The cost is the worst thing about it (note: I’m not a vegetarian….I’m just looking for ways to eat less meat)
Honest question, why do you want to eat less meat?
Btw ground beef also looks like dog food.
@@epiccollision this comment leads me to believe that you have never seen ground beef or dog food in your life.
@@g_r9567 Red meat isn't particularly good for you. Certainly makes sense to try to avoid it if you're trying to be healthy.

I'd love a ranking of meatless chicken and sausage substitutes.
Yessssss!!!!!!
Very informative thank you!😊
My son and I like the Morningstar Grillers. My son is very picky, but he does like those.
I miss the original Grilllers. The new ones taste horrible to me. Fortunately, Worthington "fripats" are the original recipe. Most people don’t know that "Morningstar Farms" started life as Worthington's "mom friendly" supermarket brand, with less "health food store" sounding names.
@@josephwisniewski3673 We haven't had the grillers in a couple of years, so haven't had the new ones yet.
@@kathycooper9994 Be prepared for massive disappointment. They taste nothing like the old ones. It's so obvious that even not having them in a couple of years you'll go "these are not what I remember".
Thank you for comparing these. I’m WFPB so I don’t eat much processed foods like these, however I’ll stick to Beyond Meat when I do indulge. (Impossible isn’t GF so that’s a no go.)
🙏🏻
Your info is out of date. Impossible Burgers have been gluten free since 2019.
Why should anyone be eating highly processed foods? How is that healthy? Did we evolve genetically on processed foods or real foods?
@@mechmat12345 thank you! I had no idea they went GF.
The Morning Star Harvest Veggie patties are actually great for breakfast or basically a veg side dish. They taste really good, I think.
I have been really impressed with both the Beyond and Impossible products. I am a meat eater, but others in my family are not, and I will just as happily eat these as a "real" burger.
I did a taste test of these plant-based burgers and meats a couple of years ago and definitely thought that in 3 products: the Beyond burger, the Impossible burger and the Lightlife burger, that in a hamburger with all the toppings etc., I don't think I would notice the difference if no one was prompting me to. The Lightlife burger, which I never see anyone talking about, was actually the best tasting to me, I suspect there is a small amount of msg or similar in it. On their own they are identifiable as not-meat, but they're a real step up from the previous generation of veggie burgers and I really believe we could get a veg burger that 100% 'passes' soon. These are *almost* there. Best plant based hotdogs are still the Yves, as they have been for years.
I'm not vegetarian but I've always liked MorningStar. They don't taste anything like meat, but taste really good imo. That used to be the Veggie burger brand Burger King sold before they switched to Impossible. I was bummed about that because the MorningStar veggie burger was my go-to order at BK. Impossible is fine and all but if I want something trying to resemble and taste like meat.... I'll just eat meat.
I like their chicken nuggets and their breakfast sausage patties
I"m an Impossible person, I make them often but I've never considered making tacos. My #1 favorite vegetarian burger was a fried tofu burger made at a gym/health spa down the street from the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. I was lucky enough to tour the states in the '80s and I spent 2 weeks a year there. Though I've never been a vegetarian, that was my go-to lunch. Does anyone remember that gym?
I enjoy all of these in different applications. Nice review! 🍔
The "Impossible Whopper" from BK is quite good, even if you can taste the beef residue from the grill. The "Beyond Famous" from Carl's Jr. leaves something to be desired, but I don't know that's the meat or just Carl's Jr.
Best "fake meat" that I've had is, by far, from the Tofurkey company-- but that's fake turkey, not fake beef.
I really like most Impossible products, but I found BK's Impossible Whopper to be more bland and dry. But I chalk that up to their preparation/cooking methods than the actual "meat" itself. Also this was in 2018 when it was first introduced, so maybe it's gotten better since then.
I've had the Impossible Whopper from BK and the Beyond Sausage breakfast sandwich from Dunkin and thought both were very good. Texture of the burger was slightly different as I think it took less chewing, but I would definitely order either again.
Dunkin got rid of the Beyond Sausage in my area. Fortunately, it's available in all the groceries near me. I like the regular Beyond Burger, but it's too large a portion as is. Impossible is what I order when I've eaten at BK. It's good, but I like the Beyond better.
For better or worse, the Impossible Whopper just tastes like a Whopper. Not exactly the same, but anyone that knows Burger King would recognize it as a Whopper immediately. A well prepared Beyond or Impossible burger is worthy item at any restaurant that serves burgers.
@@mechmat12345 When I go to Burger King, I'll usually get the Impossible Whopper and request less sauce. Same when Hardee's offered the Beyond Burger. I don't know if the meatless patty has less flavor than a regular meat patty, or if they use more sauce to mask the flavor, but it tends to dominate the sandwich.
Aborted Fetal Tissue gives it that meaty taste.
@@mechmat12345 I agree that they taste nearly identical, but I'm not sure what that says about BK's beef burgers. ;)
I love making ATK recipes like tacos dorados with beyond meat! Impossible to tell the difference 😉
That last one (Gardein) reminds me of the soy burgers they used to try to pass off as hamburgers in my college cafeteria several decades ago.
I had an afternoon class w/a professor who often let us out late, so we’d have to run to get dinner before the cafeteria closed. One evening the only foods remaining were burgers and broccoli, which I detested.
I chose the broccoli.
I've had Beyond Meat before but I'm more of a Impossible products fan lately. I've bought their ground product to make a vegan version of meat pasta sauce and I didn't even miss the meat after eating it and I did have the Impossible Whopper as well at my local Burger King and again, I didn't miss the meat. Here in Canada, coffee chain Tim Hortons actually carries the Impossible sausage for one of their breakfast sandwiches as well.
I’ve used impossible to make homemade meatballs, and I couldn’t tell the difference between it and a ground beef meatball
As someone who is pescatarian and looking for different food options, I have tried many of the meatless “burgers” noted in the video. Beyond burger is hands down my favorite. I don’t eat it because “it tastes like meat” I eat it because it does taste good (to me!) and I like having a little variety in my food choices. I stock up when it’s on sale; one of my local big box stores just had a huge 1/2 off sale and that helped quite a bit. I don’t find that I am spending more money eating this way.
Exactly. If you're standing there with a Beyond Burger in one hand and a beef burger in the other just to complain that they don't taste the same, you're doing it wrong.
Nice taste comparison video! I've only tried Impossible Burgers at home and really like them a lot. They emit a very odd smell when first placed into the frying pan but it goes away as they cook. I find them much more digestible than a real beef burger and my metabolism doesn't bog down after eating one. Although totally different, I love a nice crisp Boca Burger, too.
It’s probably not the beef that makes you feel that way, but the carbs you eat with it. I started getting burgers and skipping the fries. I get a double cheeseburger with a side veggie/salad option and I even keep the bun on and I walk out feeling great. However if I eat the typical burger with fries I also feel bogged down. Also get water instead of soda.
I agree with his statement about tacos. I havent messed with the meat substitutes because its expensive but I moved to ground turkey ages ago for things where the meat is almost a "filler" and is going into stuff with massive flavors. Not a bolognese but if doing a heavy italian sauce Ill put turkey in. Or tacos. More ground meat applications and NOT burgers.
Beyond, Quorn, and Boca all have 'grounds' or 'crumbles' but the beyond ones taste like chalk while the quorn and boca actually have a decent beefy flavor. The caveat is you might have to break apart chunks after they sit in the freezer. Lol
As a vegetarian for coming up on 45 years, it's fair to say I've tried a lot of these burgers. I also have the added complication of needing a low-calorie diet just to maintain weight, so if you can give me adequate flavor/texture with fewer calories (ideally 100-ish or less per patty), you get points from me. Sadly, many of the ones that fit my criteria either get reformulated (grrrrr) or discontinued (sad-face). Options like Beyond Meat and Impossible taste good, but they come with more calories and fat than I can justify for myself. I loved the Yves burgers, but since the start of the pandemic, they've been discontinued. What I'm currently left with are "least bad" options, and right now that's Boca All American Veggie Burgers which have gone through some rounds of recipe tweaking over the years -- some to better effect than others. At present, they're slightly better than meh, but just barely good enough when I just want a burgery-ish taste. Most of the rest aren't even worth my attention anymore.
The way I've managed the salt-fat problem with the Beyond foods is I buy the breakfast sausage patties. Eating one gives me the taste I like, plus built-in portion control. YMMV
Same issue here, the solution I found is to make my own, it isn't hard. A mix of shiitake mushrooms, bean or milk protein, yeast, and a binding agent (garbanzo flour works and tastes great) will make nice "burgers" or "meatballs".
@@skwalka6372 As meat eating person who dose not mind a good vegetarian or vegan burger. Making homemade patties is the way to go! I have friends who fallow either diets. When I still ate meat, I loved smashbugers. I would love to see a test between beyond and impossible which makes the better smashburger...or if it is even possible.
I have tried them all and I find that the exterior, browned texture goes a long way. I like Beyond better than Impossible, but there are some smaller brands that I have liked as well. They all smell horrendous raw lol, but once you fry them up they are very acceptable. Just don't tell yourself you're missing out on anything (even if you are) and you'll have a good time with any of the more meat-like brands.
I too prefer Beyond but mostly because, as a vegetarian, the Impossible weirds me out a little since it's so close to what I remember beef tasting like. I also just happen to prefer the flavor of the Beyond.
I Think the smell gets me the most. I can smell it even when I'm served one at a restaurant. It's so bad.
I have been fighting this battle for years and I think I need to make my own Pattie’s. I made mushroom burgers and I enjoyed them. and had an occasional impossible burger that was palatable. ( doesn’t take much to out cook me ) usually from hotel restaurants
A fantastic but simple replacement is black beans. One part breadcrumbs for every two parts beans, seasoning, and an egg (or two) to bind it all together. Grill in a pan and enjoy! (You can also add diced onions and mushrooms to the mix, but you'd get more flavor by sautéing them separately and putting them atop the burger.)
If anyone from ATK actually reads, plz read to the end. ;-) ~I am a long, long time fan of ATK, as well as CC and have followed both for many years. Have many of your cookbooks and magazines. I truly love the taste test, and product reviews. To be honest, love most all recipies I have tried. :-) ~~For many years now, it has been on my mind to discuss the procedure for taste testing you all use. ~~If a person (taster) is actually going to give a true evaluation in a taste test, we all know that a person should clean the palate/tongue with a soda cracker and or water after each tasting in order to discover the tue taste of each item tasted. I really enjoy these ATK segments!
Recommend reposting a tasting assessment of beef analogues in a year or two, as new brands or versions come on the market. Also, Impossible Foods' leghemoglobin, the thing that replicates the flavor of heme (pronounced "heem") iron in mammalian blood, is derived from lentil roots, for those who have allergies.
I've tried the Beyond Burgers, Brats, and Meatballs and was able to fool my late 60s parents. They're very tasty and as Jack mentions, when you add condiments/sauces it's even harder to tell.
This was a great episode. One thing missed is the nutritional issues. I tried the winning "beef" before and liked it. But the salt and seasonings may not be to everyone's liking. Some products were really high in salt.
I totally agree. These are great if you're avoiding meat for ethical or environmental reasons. Not really a health-conscious choice.
@@obviouslyblack still better than meat. Especially with the cholesterol, fat, hormones, and sundry other drugs that are in cattle.
Which nutrition facts specifically are you talking about? I see similar similar numbers on fat and protein, plant based has zero cholesterol and beef is through the roof, but plant has way more sodium, but I think once you salt beef to taste, i bet it's similar. I'm fairly certain plant is far more nutritious.
@@BruceGinkel I don’t think simply comparing nutritional values is the whole story. Plant based meat alternatives are highly processed and refined product while real meat is a natural product. Most of the nutritional value from the raw ingredients that made the plant burger are gone, things like fiber, vitamins, minerals. Most dietitians would agree that grassfed beef is healthier than plant based burgers. Also, cholesterol is not as bad as people used to think. People can have very high blood cholesterol from eating Oreos and soda which have zero cholesterol.
I made onion smash burgers with the impossible meat and it was amazing.
The Impossible Whopper is the bomb!
That's been my experience, too. Beyond and Impossible come the closest to feeling like meat, to me, but I'd also eat Morningstar or Quorn. Also, Mr. Bishop... Heme is said as "heem," not "hey-may" . . . though I kind of wish it _were_ , after hearing you say it that way!
Ah, my subject! Gardein is famous for one other thing: about 10% of people who eat their particular protein find that it… err… "substantially accelerates" ones digestive system. A little liquid smoke can really kick an impossible or beyond burger into high gear.
No Worthington? You can’t leave out the original "tastes like meat" burgers.
I phrased that awkwardly. I think a little liquid smoke adds greatly to the taste of a veggie burger. I've never observed liquid smoke "substantially accelerating" mine or anyone else's digestive system.
Gardein products, on the other hand, have had that affect on many people, myself included. This is a shame, because some of their products are amazing in appearance and texture.
We like Beyond Burgers, and I use the ground Impossible to make tacos, meatballs, meatloaf, stuffed peppers, etc.
Being plant based we have liked Beyond Meat and Impossible products for 5 years.
I am not a vegetarian but would love to know how to make one, also, thanks to The Leguminator for the info 😊.

Thank you! It drove me nuts that he said it wrong twice but also nailed hemoglobin. I've noticed that Jack also says paprika different than most by putting the accent on the first syllable.
I don't get the love for Impossible Burger. As I ate it it had this familiar yet unpleasant aroma and flavor, and I realized it reminded me of my old dog's high end food.
These videos are so relevant! Just what is needed - Thank you!
Impossible is a good substitute for things like chilli, tacos and spaghetti. The flavor is there, it's just missing something... it's lighter

After reading the ingredients list of Impossible Beef I'll just stick to organic, grass fed, grass finished ground beef thank you
I've tried all of these and agree with Julia. Beyond is best, but Impossible is a close second.
I agree with the top two picks.
I'll tell you, I am a confirmed carnivore, and I generally despise meat substitutes. I prefer a black bean burger that is trying to be black bean, not faux beef, a mushroom burger that celebrates the portabella not being pretend chuck. I feel that there are great ways to enjoy vegetables, soy, lentils, etc., that are not trying to pretend to be something they aren't. Dal is delicious. It doesn't need to be a meatloaf. That said, I honestly enjoy the Impossible products for what they are. They aren't really a meat replacement (though far closer than most) but they are just tasty in and of themselves. In trying to replace meat, I think they hit on something that can honestly be celebrated as it's own thing.
I am a vegetarian and I 100% agree with these rankings. I haven't eaten meat for about 30 years now so I have no real idea how close they are to the real thing, but I find Impossible's taste and texture delicious. Beyond is a close second. The others I have tried but not repeated.
I completely agree with these rankings i always go with the impossible brick and burger. It’s great for empeñadas lasagna tacos and spaghetti. But for my breakfast sausage and sausage links i go with beyond meat. Although impossible has a good sausage loaf
Meatless burgers have come a LONG way ! some are really good !
Health Food Restaurants were making plant based meatless meats back in the 1960's.
Wow So I guess Shirley McClain was eating them along with her magical mushrooms 🍄
Beyond the grotesqueries, I find it quite delicious! What's more, people I hate will *hate* eating this! SECONDS, PLEASE!
The Impossible one is the most meat-like. If you can get it from Costco it's the best deal - $12 for a bag of eight patties.

I’ll stick with real beef over lies from a marketing company
When I eat vegetables, I want them to taste like vegetables
I haven’t eaten a hamburger in over fifty years, l don’t want to eat something that tastes like that. MorningStar Farms’ Spicy Black Bean is an excellent choice for a sandwich.
MorningStar is #1 for me. It's the cheapest and the difference in taste from the top ranked never justified the extra expense for me.
I tried the Beyond brand. I will never make that mistake again...nor try any other. For meatless, it's black bean. Period.
My son and I love the Impossible burger better than a regular burger! It’s really good…and I am a carnivore through and through…
Beyond is #1 in my book followed by Impossible.
Gardien makes some good stuff, fish sticks are my fave. They do not make good burger patties. I do like the Impossible products. I'm not a vegetarian, but more into cutting cholesterol. Beef burger patties are pretty bland to begin with, so seasoning up plant based burgers is totally acceptable to me.
Myoglobin, not hemoglobin. The latter is part of blood (actually a protein found in red blood cells), none of which is usually present in store-bought meat these days. (Edited to add: myoglobin is found in muscle fibers, and therefore meat.)
I share the same sentiment as was expressed during the opening intro which is why I was intrigued by the video to see what your results were.
As a vegetarian I knew exactly how this would play out lol
I'm vegan and while these are hardly healthy foods I love to have some once in a while. I've had all these over the years and I agree with the ranking. I also like the Sol burger Extreme Griller though it doesn't replicate meaty qualities.

I've always liked Jack.
I love it when people come here and act like they speak for all vegetarians, or all vegans or all carnivores. One person may or may not eat these for any number of reasons that may or may not be someone else's reasons.
Most people on here don't care what your reasons are. Tell it to your attorney before your plead guilty for not eating beef 🍖
Great review, thank you.
Honestly the one that julia liked least looks exactly like a plain hamburger patty from McDonald’s. Same thickness etc.
Jack, Heme is pronounced "HEEM", as in Hemoglobin, which you pronounced correctly.
There is on such thing!
I'm more interested in texture than I am, in flavor. A relatively cheap, original Boca Burger is fine with me so long as I can season it to taste, with various spices. What I can't take is a 'mushy middle'. The two brands chosen in the test are my favorites but they're spendy (for me). I save them for when fresh tomatoes are in season and company is coming for dinner. No one has ever guessed they aren't eating a real burger.
Hello!
Show how to cook with them!
Morning Star Farms Grillers Prime for me. Look, I know they're not beef, so I'm not looking for the taste of beef. I don't even put them on a bun, just seems like veggie overkill. Boetje's mustard, yellow mustard and ketchup goes on.
MorningStar breakfast sausage is actually really good, but not vegan
Genetically modified corn: bad. Meat created in a lab: good.
I do not want my plant based burgers to try to imitate meat. I want them to taste like what they are. I have been eating Boca Burgers for years and really like them.
My husband has gout and craves a burger every once in a while and he loves loves loves the Beyond Burger ..it fooled him and his dad in his 80's says he a conasurser of burgers...my husband dud not tell him and just put them in his grill and asked if he like the burger..*he thought it was a real burger..and asked where he got the meat because it was the best burger he has had...blow away that it was meatless...lol
The Impossible burger does not have the after taste the Beyond meat one has which is also an advantage.
Beyond Beef and Impossible Meat both work pretty well as meatloaf, too. But beware--the product smells strange when raw and definitely when cooking. The smell dissipates. I served the meatloaf at a Christmas party full of meat-lovers, and everyone admitted (just like Julia) that it definitely wasn't meat, but they were satisfied with it. Same with tacos--in that case it came even closer to fooling me.
Impossible is definitely my preference. Beyond has an aftertaste I don't enjoy.
I kind of agree that a veggie burger shouldn't be trying to be something it isn't. It's not a meat substitute and it shouldn't try to be.
When is the last time you tried it? They changed the recipe fairly recently. I don't notice the aftertaste anymore. Impossible annoys me because the bricks are not a full pound like Beyond.
@@mechmat12345 Maybe a year ago. When did they change the recipe?
@@mechmat12345 The thing for me is not only is it trying to be something it isn't, but at 10 dollars for a Lb, it's too expensive for what it is. I'd rather pay almost that much for the real deal anyway, if I do in the first place.
