On the refills, olight notes that it will ONLY work with their refills as its actually a part of the electronic circuit. That said some experimentation may find an "unsupported" brand that works, perhaps with an adapter. Having used the open 2 then the open pro since their releases, I will certainly be picking atleast one of these up.
I actually bought one of these when they came out. I was kinda thinking don't know why I spent all that money on this but after watching your video I'm suddenly as pleased with it as when it arrived.
Seems like great pen/light combo, but I don't like items that are unnecessarily disposable. If I could replace the battery and use a non-proprietary refill, it would gladly buy one.
Very informative video and I started to question my new buy , but I really love it hope it last a while because I'm a United States Postal worker and I'm partial to changes in weather .
I will probably get the new open glow however I do not like the charging base. I think I will prefer that it plugs into a usbc directly. I have another and I have to charge it during the day occasionally. It's easy to plug in vs carry a base with me. I do like the lockout alot.
@@cheule I think the base overall could be a good thing it just doesn't work for me. I'd need to carry the base with me for when it dies in the field. I already have a micro USB cord with me.
Just ordered the OD green along with the mini od green bult action for $56.99 with 3 refill combo for $3.00. Perfect for me at work in concrete construction for writing reports and writing results for concrete tests. Hopefully it writes good?
Thanks - very good and honest review!!! "... This is something you're gonna use a year or two ..." btw: The issue about the refill is in their FAQ: >> Q4: Can O'Pen Glow use other brand refills? A4: No, the O'Pen Glow's refill is electrically conductive, which is not possible with other refills. >> Also: According to their website the black refills are not(!) compatible with the new Glow-pen!!
It's that time again. Olight might get my money for that OPen Glow.

Good info.
I’ll wait until it also has a UV light on the clip. 😂

That warms my heart.
Excellent review! Thank you for going over them so well.

You could also use the glowing tip for an ultra moon light if you really wanted an absolute minimum of light
I neglected to say it in the video, but I do exactly that and it works well!
Thx man good tip!
The tip doesnt seem as efficient per lumen as the side led though...
Desperately hoping the Spring Arkfeld laser is available in Canada, America gets all the cool stuff!
Get a shipping proxy!
Mine came in today. This Iraq combat vet loves it!
Thank you for your service.
Non standard refill is an automatic no go. Parker style or bust.
I tend to feel the same. But since this is by no means an “expensive pen,” (most expensive pens are >$200), I am less critical of that point.
I have one of the original pens that they made and it's great for travel when on a plane and all the lights are turned down.

I prefer this base, because then you forgot charging indicators on the pen, as well as ports and flaps

Great pen..and charger.😊
Great review!
Hey, that's pretty neat!

I found it to write well in my testing. It is not gel ink, and behaved like “good” rollerball ink.
👍Great review 👌
3:20 where do I find this pen you’re describing I want one with the light at the top of the pen. I’ve been searching with no luck
Thanks - very good and honest review!!!

I just learned this as well. It’s a shame.
Couldn't buy the brass edition, it sold out before it was available for me to purchase?
That’s too bad, I really like the heft of it.
Love olight but I won't part with my pilot G2 bold. Proprietary refills... pass
good videothe pen look so good!
Nice!
Is the refill a new proprietary refill or the same as the open pro or open2?
I am not 100% sure, but it sounds like they changed it slightly and it’s not the same.
I like Olight but not a fan of Chinese owned and Chinese produced products selling the idea of “freedom” and/or American flag/pride.
Where do you think American flags are made? Or even American military uniforms? It’s just the way of the world I try not to overthink it.
