Back in the old west, that spur scar was called an “undertaker’s smile”. It meant that whoever gave it to you would kill you the next time you met. Learned that at the cowboy hall of fame.
There's very few and I can count them on a hand that actors have played to the point that when I was watching the movie I felt like the actor was actually the person they are portraying. Val playing doc and Kurt playing Wyatt are two of them
Most people don't know that Kurt directed this movie and knew that Val was that dude in playing Doc... and had to let him do his thing...boy did he do it.
Craziest part is that Tombstone is 60-75% historically accurate. Wyatt's brothers were attacked by Ike Clanton and the Cowboys in Tombstone: one crippled (Virgil) and one killed (Morgan). Wyatt took his family to the train station to send them away to safety. Frank Stillwell showed up at the train station and Wyatt killed him. Wyatt then followed it up by going on his Vendetta Ride. His Vendetta Ride was financed by Wells Fargo because the Cowboys kept robbing their stage coaches.
When I went to Tombstone, the person at the place where Morgan got killed said the movie down played it. Stillwell was actually unrecognizable once Wyatt killed him
The cutting of Ikes face is way more significant than people realize. A "Mexican tattoo" was a variation of the "mark of a coward". In ikes day to day every man that saw him knew at least one man knew him to be a coward. In the crowd he ran in it was a huge deal because the only way its done is when someone is on their knees begging.
@poolhall9632 New York street gangs at the turn of the 20th did something similar called "squealers mark." It also shares similarities with the "Glasgow smile" or a "Chelsea grin."
everyone always praises Val Kilmer's Portrayal of Doc Holiday (and rightfully so) but the whole cast was amazing especially Kurt Russel as Wyatt Earp he could go from Family Man to Psycho at the drop of a hat and it's believable.
In the movie, Sam Eliot (Virgil) says "Ma always doted on the frowner." Wyatt was not an easy man to get to know nor was he an affable man. The death of his first wife and unborn child from typhoid fever took all the joy out of his life. Somewhere between melancholy and morose on his best days. However, family was everything to him and when Morgan got killed, that pushed him into a psychotic rage that even some of his friends were afraid. That's the reason Doc really was his only true friend, Doc understood what drove Wyatt to do what he did.
Greatest western ever.. my favorite movie in general of all time as well, so much in it! Doc respected one man and you see why in this scene, Wyatt could turn it off but when it was on he was the best. I don’t think I’ve ever got the call back to Wyatt holding up the one finger to the brother saying he was the one, I always took it as Wyatt saying “one down” but that’s a good call back!
If you read Stuart Lake's book "Wyatt Earp Frontier Marshall" which most of it has been proven to have stretched the blanket some, it says that he yelled "That's one Virgil, that's one for Morg"
The sound design on the spur cut is so visceral. it makes it so effective. I also think it's really interesting how Wyatt uses disrespect and intimidation on his enemies, like with Johnny Tyler and here with Ike.
Two movies that were released in the same era (The Untouchables (1987) and Tombstone (1993)) portray the dark transformation of a white hat protagonist to a black hat avenger. Both characters share certain commonalities. Ness and Earp lose someone close to them. Wyatt watches his brother, Morgan, bleed out. Ness loses his mentor, Jim Malone (Sean Connery). Both face the daunting challenge of bringing down a ruthless criminal organization--Al Capone's mob and The Cowboys. Both lose a close associate--McMasters and Charles Martin Smith's character. The pressure of the situations leads both men to set aside their normal white hat ways. Ness adopts a "by any means necessary" outlook and Wyatt goes on a search and destroy mission. The great difference is the perspective actor's ability to convey the change. Costner plays Ness as a man possessed by righteous wrath with little emotion. Honestly, it weakens the film. Russell, on the other hand, lives out the vengeful reaper with a zeal that borders, and may slip into, on crazy. The shot in the scene under review at the end where he tells Ike that "Hell is coming" shows Russell with a glint in his eyes that glitters with pure malice. Earp is the more believable character and that is why his performance is better than Costner's.
The outlaw Josey Wales is my favorite western movie hands down. Tombstone is a close second for me. Then pale Rider, Open Range, and Unforgiven make up my top 5 western movies. Honorable mention to Appaloosa. Best western mini series is undoubtedly Lonsome Dove.
To be fair, Stephen Lang is really good at playing hated/evil characters. Take Col. Quarritch from "Avatar" or The Blind Man from "Don't Breathe" for example.
@@annealissa I know they were, but for the story of the movie. For example the Pale Horse could be attached to Doc because he was sick? Conquest Horse to Wyatt Earp because he conquered the cowboys? Maybe my thoughts just wander too much lol.
There's a beautiful balance that older gens have; being extremely violent when necessary, but having the care and intellect to depict when to utilize it. Sadly, the younger gens can't quite understand this because of the easy lifestyle provided for this short period of time. Soon, though, soon, take my advice please, you'll have to adapt and think like your ancestors bit more. That's all I'll say, I'll end my rant
Why are so many missing the second "Hell's coming with me"? It's there for a reason and, yes, I realize they may have been out of the reactions before you got them. I just find it weird that anyone would cut that.

More like 80-90% historically accurate. History Buffs has a pretty good review of it, and it’s impressive how much actual history actually made it in.
Part I think is crazy is George Hand said Frank Stillwell was the most shot up man he'd ever seen.
When I went to Tombstone, the person at the place where Morgan got killed said the movie down played it. Stillwell was actually unrecognizable once Wyatt killed him
A coroner actually said he was the most shoot up man he'd ever seen.
Hard to make a good guy out of someone who done massacres a boy like that. Gets in the way of the good vs evil narrative, you understand.
Kevin Costner portrayed it more accurately in the movie Wyatt Earp.
I remember they said stillwell had enough lead in him that he could have been sold as scrap metal.
@@cardsgal89actually he didn’t. That film played it up a bit too much.
I get so pumped up when I hear “ right behind you Stillwell”. And “ Hell’s coming with me!!!”
Kurt Russell nailed this performance.
Every single actor in this movie nailed it.
I looked and behold a pale horse. The name who sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.
“There’s a man goin around, takin names. And he decides who will be free or who to blame.”
Pale Rider.

History's first documented case of someone telling someone else to FAFO.
This movie gets a lot of love, but I still don't think it's anywhere near the love it deserves. It's absolutely one of the best westerns ever made.
Yes, it's great.
But for an operatic masterpiece see Once Upon a Time in the West.🤠
No need for western. One of THE best movies.
The beginning of the Earp Vendetta Ride where Wyatt got to be both a Marshal & an outlaw

all the movie is a masterclass, espacially dialogues
I just noticed the train number is 5150. It's literally a crazy train. (If you dont know, look up 5150.)

Wyatt has "black Air Force 1 energy"
The bloodlust for Ike is _real_
Ike was just playing about, and we wasn't
The real Ike Clanton was much, much worse. He damn near got Wyatt and his brothers convicted of murder over the O.K. Corral shootout.
No one remember the priest from the start of the movie. He was quoting Revelation.
Hells coming with me.
Behold a pale horse. The man that sat upon him was death and hell followed with him
@@hellhound1389 so many people miss that foreshadowing. My English and Film Analysis teachers would be so proud. 😂
Wyatt's job interview for being The Grim Reaper.
Satan: He's The One.
lol ... the pale horse of death (one of the four riders of the apocalypse) will gladly give his spot to Kurt as well ;)
I think this movie is the best western. In fact I watch this movie every time I stay at a Best Western hotel.
For me the trifecta is Tombstone, Unforgiven, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. There are other great Westerns, but these three stand out.
😂😂
This is entertainment, not the best western
@@JayCity10the Shootist, High Noon, and Butch Cassidy
Nobody caught the crazy train!5150
"Oh, they got the hats on" 😂
Wyatt and Doc! How real friends are!
i never see how ppl talk during that part it's so powerful. The Hells comin with me part........they just talk over it
I know it was probably said but i loved this part because thats what the priest said in the beginning of the movie then it went to Wyatt great movie
I was wondering if anyone caught this!!
Kurt Russell Is The Best 💯 Period,Nice Reactions Everyone 😊
Wyatt wasn't gonna waste a bullet on a coward and Ike was a coward. When someone is proven a coward living is worse than death.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
I love this movie!
Me too it’s my favorite Western!

Such a great payoff to Ringo quoting Revelation at the Mexican wedding.
It’s called foreshadowing
Wyatt is cool, but Doc steals every scene he is in, easily the best character.
I wish I could watch this again for the first time. God Damn!!
all the caracteres are play by stars..best movie ever
GET SOME !!
I always laugh at when Wyatt cuts him with his spur. Spurs aren’t sharp enough to cut the horse.
Anyone else notice the train number? 5150- Crazy Train!! ✌️✌️
Interesting enough, Virgil Earp continued to have a very act life in law enforcement despite him having one arm.
One arm, and he became a town Sheriff.
Tombstone Pale Rider and Young Guns. Best Western movies I've ever seen
High plains drifter, Silverado, Big Jake, and Old Henry should be on that list
The outlaw Josey Wales is my favorite western movie hands down. Tombstone is a close second for me. Then pale Rider, Open Range, and Unforgiven make up my top 5 western movies. Honorable mention to Appaloosa. Best western mini series is undoubtedly Lonsome Dove.
In 1991 or 92 when this came out, Steven Lang who played Ike was in the top 10 most hated characters in movies lol
To be fair, Stephen Lang is really good at playing hated/evil characters. Take Col. Quarritch from "Avatar" or The Blind Man from "Don't Breathe" for example.
THAT’S STEVEN LANG??? I DIDN’T RECOGNIZE HIM WITH THE BEARD AND THE COWARDLY PERSONALITY!!!
All time top five movie for me!
He gave clanton a Texas tattoo then sent him as a message to the other cowboys
This and Gladiator my 2 favorites
Did anyone else notice that the train car's number is 5150, Like the Cowboy gang opened a big box of crazy.
YOU TELL’EM I’M COMING!
-He done turned into a black air force-1 💀💀💀💀
Talk about a declaration of war!!! One of the most powerfull moment in movie history.
Would Wyatt dealing with the Bully Dealer make for a good reaction as well? Curious how the reactors felt about that scene.
I love how everybody is like "You need to just kill Ike."
Awesome video.
Who would've thunk it, U.S. Marshall Ego The Living Planet with his deputy Yondu Udanta?
Best cinematic hatred of s character: Ike.
Wyatt was known to shoot first. That’s why he lived.
The Clanton's were even worse than the movie portrayed them.
My favorite western
Awesomeness 💯💯
It's a shame they didn't get Ike right, considering he was the actual leader of The Cowboys, not Curly Bill.
Not healed just means you don’t carry a gun
"Not heeled" means he doesn't have a gun.
There’s a documentary on Netflix about Tombstone and the movie missed a lot of key parts
Anyone knows if each character represented an apocalypse horse?
Probably not since they were real people.
@@annealissa I know they were, but for the story of the movie. For example the Pale Horse could be attached to Doc because he was sick? Conquest Horse to Wyatt Earp because he conquered the cowboys? Maybe my thoughts just wander too much lol.
You're not a punk when you stand up to bad men.
Cool line. Too bad Wyatt didn’t actually say that.
