Watching Curtis on the big screen made me realize his passion, his uniqueness, his vision, and hope for our people. His music awakened the sense of purpose in me.. He summoned me to activism. I was listening to If I had a choice of color during the beginning of school integration in West Helena, Arkansas. He helped me grapple with my own prejudice toward white people. He let me know that I had a role to play. My parents were unsure about the experiment, and so was I.
