I did my first project in fusion 360 today. I started using it privately because I always see you working with it and actually, the tapering angle was exactly the tip I needed to finish my project! Thanks for all your insights, it's always a pleasure watching your videos and projects
Angus - quick tip for selection - Left-click and hold over what you want to select, a little list appears with all the things under your pointer, as you hover over each one, it will highlight that feature on your model, that way you don't keep having to switch visibility for bodies/sketches. Hope that helps.

Very good video, well explained and to the point !
I use Solid Edge as I learned to use it in school, but it's a very intuitive program if you set it in "Ordered" mode. Allows to make very complex models and every steps of each tool are clearly explained and describe what the program expects you to do.
Their educational version have a free life-time license so it's perfect for prototyping with a 3D printer :D Just can't make money with the files created in it... but that's fine, knowledge from any standard CAD software can be applied to most of the others.

Fusion 360 is a lifesaver for a hobbyist like me because is soo powerful and freeeee! solid works is way too expensive for me .
Angus, when you wanted to select the origin plane in your video, you needed to get access to the Select Other drop down. To get to that just click and hold the left mouse button and it will appear, you can then select occluded objects behind your cursor.

Hey Angus, could you explain the difference between Extrude and Press Pull (under the MODIFY menu). They both appear to do the same task. -Cheers
I'm not sure but I think this is how it works.
Extrude is adding/subtracting a new object to/from the previous object.
Press pull is changing the dimensions of the original object.
Using live boolean new feature in Zbrush 4R8, fast and easy!

More Fusion 360 tutorials please, this was the first fusion video of yours I've watched (watched loads of your other stuff). This was clear and made sense.
I've done about 5 days worth of tutorials/playing so just starting. What I found frustrating has been:
Moving around the model (first 2 hour tutorial without able to control properly was not fun) - if new, look for tutorial on this.
Tutorials that work 2/3 of a design then say "I'll add this really complex bit I designed earlier" then continue ... WHY would you think that's a good idea? I will hunt you down...once I've watched some tutorials on hunting people down.
No playlist or order to videos - (includes this channel) not end of world just makes it a bit more difficult - this may be my issue not other peoples (I am making my own for your stuff).
Look for videos that are cut into 20-30 min sections. If a really long project, multiple videos are better when trying to review.
Adding stuff on to the correct plane ... 20 mins working to find out it's 20 cm away from where I wanted it to be.
Keyboard short cuts are always useful and my preferred method but seeing where they sit in the menu also helps put them in group context.

Have you looked at or plan to do a review of any of the Athorbot printers? They look really nice, well-built metal frame and have a Dual Extruder version.

!!note!! for the last thing, he shows as of 2021 you need to set the start field to Object and then select you cylinder and continue as shown

❓ Is there a way in Fusion360 to easily make an extrude from two sketch-faces which are rectangular to each other?
I have a furniture and made 2 sketches (one in top-view and one in front-view) with a lot of faces.
It would be really helpful if there is a way to make bodies from where those faces would intersect. (Without the need of extrude both faces very long, make a combine-intersect afterwords and delete the not needed bodies. Because there are a lot of bodies to create this way and this would take too long!)
I hope my idea is clear what and why I want to do that.

how do i extrude a circle/line of an existing cylinder without making another sketch? as i can in rhino 3d or other software. i just want to extrude the circle/line so i can thicken it a lil.
Quick question from complete noob, can I sketch multiple things then extrude them differently? I tried it but once I extrude once it deleted the other parts of the sketch that were still 2d and touching

with which technique und software would you recommend to built an outer layer with less details for an exististing model. I have a CAD-modell of a foot and don't want to see the single toes.
cool it's a long time since I've done any CAD the tapering is cool. if I wanted the last 2mm of a relief say 20mm deep to taper is that info in the video just I missed it. thanks
I just can’t get extrude to make a solid object. I sketched a rectangle and did extrude and it just extruded the sides not the face. What am I doing wrong?

Loved the video, however i noticed two things you could improve in these tutorials:
Please avoid doing unnecessary things while talking or presenting some steps. Explaining the extruding function is clearly aimed at total noobs (like me), yet you don't stop spinning, zooming and hurdling the object around constantly while talking. Sometimes you even hide and unhide parts with no reason.
Also please don't hold onto your mouse while gesticulating. While it looks quite funny, it's rather irritating and hard to focus on what you are actually doing. (eg. at 5:38)
I really hope you continue these and am looking forward to your next videos!
I inserted my .svg file, which are multiple shapes. When I extrude one of the shapes, the other shapes disappear....and I don't know how to get them back?
Hello again Angus, question i am trying to model a soup can lid. The one i have snaps around the lip of the can because the lid has a tiny inner lip. I drew a cylinder. 25 high and cut out a circle. 16 deep now i need a slightly bigger circle cut out but not all the out for the inner lip. What's the best way for that?

Hi! I would have an additional question regarding extrudes, more exact, cutting with extrudes.
I'm trying to cut simple oval holes using my sketch as the extrude line/model, no problems works fine. But how can i make the extruded/cut holes remember the sketch that created the holes, meaning, I'm trying to have the holes update their position when changing the sketch pattern or position of the ovals on the sketch. I have varying success, and would like consistency. Thanks in advance, hope you can help me. Cant find answers elsewhere... Thanks!
Why did you move to Fusion 360 from Solidworks? I'm currently thinking about what our FRC team should be using. We're going into our 2nd year, and want to work more professionally and CAD our robot. Any advice?
I moved to it because solidworks costs 12K+ AUD per seat in Australia, whereas Fusion is free to startups earning under 100K / yr (which Maker's Muse very much fits under)!

Maker's Muse that isn't actually the terms of the startup license. You aren't allowed to use it for commercial work, period. Check the terms and conditions.
Yes that actually is in the terms of the startup licence:
"Startup: If your entitlement has been designated as “Startup, ” You may use the service if You are (a) a company, startup, or home-based business that generates less than $100,000 (or equivalent in other currency) per year from the total sale of goods or services, or (b) an individual using the service for personal non-commercial projects, hobbies, or personal learning."

Now I was doing this no problem then today i go to extrude and the image is still flat! It shows the progress that is is extruding but it isn't actually giving it depth like it was. Any ideas??

Today I designed a replacement part for my ft-5 in fusion 360. I printed it in abs on the ft-5 itself, but the holes for screws and recess for a nut printed smaller than I designed it in fusion 360, I'm baffled because every other dimension of the part were spot on, and I have tuned the printer and I know it prints abs dimensionally accurate. I have my printer enclosed, just can't figure out what happened.
FDM squishes so often small holes are encroached. If you reduce the scaling to account for the external squish factor then small holes will be encroached more. In Cura at least you can set a negative "horizontal offset" to take this "squash" factor into account. I usually use -0.1mm. You may need to tweak your scale factor again after.
How to edit your extrude once you saved the part?

Fusion 360 is free to all students and any company with less than 100,000 USD turnover.
That's what makes it so appealing.
Simply get the trial and then click on the account button in the top-right, declare your status and it removes the limits.
I think it would have been helpful if you gave a real world example of why you may not want two parts to not be joined together if they are touching... I'm still a bit uncertain.

Another way you could wrap text is by using the newly added sheet metal tools. Create a cylinder the size you want, make a slice in it, then in sheet metal tool, you can unfold it and create your embossed lettering. After the text is extruded you then refold the flattened plate out.

I would suggest that you should just pirate the program you need until you can pay for it. Because it is stupid to use a free program and being locked in because you could not pay for it. And now you can pay for it you can't switch because everything you made is in the other program. And we are talking about hundred of hours of work. Solidworks or inventor are so expensive that any start-up would not be able to buy it.
