    This is SOOOO helpful! I am a furniture refinisher and I kept hearing (before I bought a spray gun) about how to check your pattern on a box before you start on your project, but no one ever explained HOW the pattern is supposed to look or what to look for! So that didn't help me to check on a box when I didn't know what to look for. THANK YOU for describing the ways to fix orange peel and what to look for and HOW to fix it!! The best video I have seen!! I can't explain how grateful I am for this video. You're making a difference and helping a lot of people, no doubt! :)

    Success at last! Great video...I was spraying cabinets with a striped orange peel effect. I couldn't master the technique. After upping the pressure and thinning Ben Moore Advance from 10% to 15-17% they have a beautiful smooth coat to them. Your pattern tips were great. Thanks for the instruction.

Your presentation really sheds a lot of light on the issues. Question: Are the air pressures you are going by with the trigger pulled so I think that means at the cap, or without the trigger pulled?

    I had really bad orange peel when I painted my snowmobile hood with endura paint for the first time. Asked a friend who uses the same paint and he said I had orange peel. After watching this video I believe my air pressure should of been higher and not letting so much paint go through the gun. Was all stressed out how bad the hood turned out but can’t wait to try again. Good thing I bought more paint than I needed lol. Like they saying goes, you live, you learn haha.

    how much psi would you expect to use for a compliant devilbiss advance hd gun spraying acrylic polyurethane topcoat? im using a 1.4 tip and the paint viscosity is set at 28 on din4 cup. I seem to have to use 45 psi at which seems excessive the guns manufacturer recommends 29psi. thanks

    • @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
      @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo  6 месяцев назад

      Hi the 29 is the max recommended to maintain the guns transfer efficiency if your above that it means the paint is to thick for a hvlp or lvmp (compliant ) air cap or needs thinned more or might due better through a smaller tip (less paint to atomize at a time ). If you share the paint brand name and product I can check a bit further on if compliant caps will work with it

    your video is really informative but still i do have a question . hope you can solve this easily.
    Question : imagine you need a thickness around 40-50 microns , at a very short time Eg. 1 second , so how could you possibly prevent the orange peel in this situation?
    Complications ;
    1.higher viscosity
    2. 2k painting
    3.less time
    hope you can solve this!

    Can you thin a 2k high build primer which uses hardener? The instructions say 4:1 mix of primer : harder but can I add thinners ??? I'm a newbie just done a panel and it's come out really bad orange peel, pressure on gun is 25 psi, 1.4 nozzle, am I sending too much of the primer out ???

    • @ev-olution8597
      @ev-olution8597 2 года назад

      You can, but you always have to check with manufacturer what type of thinner you can use with it. Also high build primers never end up flat without thinning them, because that's how you get high build up properties. When you thin it, it becomes more like a standard primer, thin it even more and you get the sealer. 1.4 nozzle is way to small to be able to send too much primer out. I use 1.8 nozzle for high build primers.

    this might be a stupid question sorry if it is im trying to learn. but if my paint was too thick would it make it not atomize? I bought some cheap RTS paint just to practice with it said I could thin it but I didn't and when I sprayed it it almost seemed like it was spitting and the end result was a lot of orange peel. should I have thinned it or did I mess something else up?

    • @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
      @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo  2 года назад

      Hi there if your paint is to thick for the spray equipment your using it can prevent you from getting a smooth finish some paint can't be thinned properly to get good results with certain equipment (hvlp) sprayers being the big example

    • @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo

      Not much can be done with aerosol only option ensure the room is 70 degrees or warmer and so is can heat helps reduce visocosity

    • @ev-olution8597
      @ev-olution8597 2 года назад

      Applying more material to prolong flashing time also helps as your clear coat has bit more time to level out while drying. But in such case you risking of having clear coat runs or fogging. So it takes some practice to get decent results by using this trick. Also laying panel flat while doing this helps a lot.

I get a wrinkled patch that appears at random and it can spread from an initial starting point. I don't know what that is called either. I think efficiency refers to how much paint lands and stays actually on the surface, as opposed to be bounced back from the surface and floating around in the air of your garage. Or it may also mean how much paint you can expell with the same given amount of air, idk 🙄
