‘Chickens’ is a relatively common name for plumes. When I was in the UMass marching band we called our rain plumes ‘digital chickens’ because of the plastic streamers used in place of the feathers lol
It’s Italian opera...people fall in love and die all the time! Lol. Oh, and the arias make you cry. Phantom has always been one of the great “story telling” corps of DCI. They execute (no pun intended) flawlessly every time, and classical music just works for them. With the white pants and shoes that show every flaw to even the cheap seats, Phantom seems to always pull it off with big shapes and movements that show off tremendous marching skill and which lock and freeze with that little goose step they do. The drum line is always tight and the horns can part your hair any time they feel like it. It’s rare these guys finish out of the top 5 and the best performances are some of the most cherished memories in all of DCI. Not just for themselves, but for everyone in competition with them. Glad you enjoyed this one. I love remembering all these great performances. Since I’ve subscribed, you’ve caught me up on a lot of shows I’ve missed and reminded me of how great some of my favorites truly were. Thanks for again for sharing!!
When Courtney said "I like those drums with the 4," Bro as a tenor drummer that made my day 😁. (Btw they are called Tenor or Quad drums and they actually can have anywhere from 4-6 drums! Mostly all the corps use 5-6 drums. 4 bigger ones on the outside and 1-2 drums in the middle. My school uses 6 and they are SOOO HEAVY...but u get used to them 🙃)
well calling them quads or quints makes sense but then when you get to a point of the proper term technically being 'sexts,' you're like uhhhhhhh yeah i just call them tenors, ahah
I'm still a sucker for their 91 version of Nessun Dorma. Also, considering JD Shaw (former brass arranger) was the soloist in 91, and the brass arranger for this 2012 show Will Pitts (former drum major for PR) , I'm sure it was special for both of them .. and the flugel soloist was VERY good.

I got to see this show live when they toured CA. Check another show off the list that I would recommend to you. Unfortunately the clip you watched didn’t show the corps entering the field with the color guard carrying heads on pikes. Turandot is an opera by Puccini in which Princess Turandot will only marry a suitor who can answer three secret riddles. The suitors are unable to and the penalty is that she orders their heads chopped off (that was the part where the guy had his head chopped off that you referred to as “savage”). One finds a loophole in her riddles and tricks her making her angry. She therefor wants him hunted down and his head removed. This is the point where the corps launches into Nessun Dorma (None Shall Sleep) at her declaration that none shall sleep until he is found. Nessun Dorma is one of the most recognized opera arias and its what they were playing when you said, “this music is playing with my emotions”. That of course is fitting because usually arias generally represent emotional high points in an opera. Fortunately in the end, Princess Turandot fell in love with this particular suitor, and she married him instead of having his head popped off. Also, the black fluffy things attached to their headwear is called a plume.
It was such a pleasure touring CA! I only wish you got to see the late season version of the show. Thanks for nailing the story of Turandot - I'm glad the group of us who marched aren't the only ones who learned about this amazing opera. I live in the Bay Area and have always tried to keep that date open for the show at Stanford. I enjoyed coming early to walk around and see the corps warming up. Being one of the first shows of the year, though, I always thought it'd be fun to head east for a DCI event later in the year. Nice to have seen Regiment a few times when they visited, and Madison Scouts another year.
I don't know how I missed this video when it first came out. 2012 hold's a special place in my heart because it was my senior year of high school. Phantom stopped at my high school to rehearse and they were all so amazing to my band. I learned so much from them! That first hit of the show punches you in the face. The brass had so much power this year.
This will always be my favorite!! Glad you enjoyed it, Courtney, hope you got the chance to see more about the original opera by Puccini. The thing about DCI videos, is that for everything the camera shows there are 2, 3, 4 more things that it misses. Such as about 7:12 you don't see the hornline in the backfield getting speared in the chest by the guard, then they pull back their spears with red streamers attached. At 8:32 it's hard to see from that angle how close the hornline is in that very fast formation, they are only inches apart as they speed around each other. This video also doesn't include the "pre-show" when they are coming on the field just before the opening formation, and the guard is pretty ominous in their slow group movement carrying posts of severed heads. Cool stuff.. ;)
Courtney any time the Phantom Regiment plays it is awesome! It so wonderful that you enjoy DCI. We love your reactions and hope some day you will be able to see the performances live. You will enjoy every moment!
I actually marched with a lot of these guys in 2014. You wouldn't notice but the male visual soloist was in horrible pain from a stress fracture he developed in his leg late in the season. He couldn't rehearse with the corps except for the full run-through at the end of rehearsal. Also, he was dating the female visual soloist at the end. That's why they look like they have such good chemistry dancing together. Enjoyed your reaction as always!
The show must go on! I'm actually very impressed with the young man that he was able to still perform quite flawlessly with that injury. That's spoken from someone who played football in high school and college and dealt with several stress fractures along the way. It's come back to haunt me in my later years.
Can someone who has a spare "C-note" lying around get a guaranteed watch request in for Phantom Regiment's 1989 "New World Symphony" show? That one will blow her away; especially that last minute or so of it.

Please react to 1991 Phantom Regiment. Still the best version of Nessun Dorma (the 2012 closer) and several jaw dropping moments (one that probably wouldn't fly today lol).
The helmets ARE cool with those black plumes. Unfortunately, in this modern era, DCI has all but abandoned helmets, shakos, Aussie's, and headwear in general. Much to the general detriment of the overall visual entertainment. Sad
I do know God blesses saved people that give money for His Glory. Idk if anything except a temporary tingling feeling happens when you give to worldly things.
Do NOT watch it first, but based on your reaction to this (Nessun dorma closer), you really, really, really, really need to react to the original by the greatest voice mankind has ever known, Luciano Pavarotti. It is his signature song. It is in Italian but you will be amazed. I was seriously thinking about doing a guaranteed on this one but it is so short. Last time they medaled 😪
only hornline to medal on Jupiter horns
This is my favorite show from that year. Although Blue Devils and Crown had fantastic shows (especially Crown). I found myself thinking you'd like the 2014 Santa Clara Vanguard. If you like more of the old skool DCI, I'd check out '97 Blue Devils
bd 91-00 are all just so great in so many ways
@@jared0111 that was a great decade for BD. 94 and 95, along with 97 are my particular favorites
SCV 2016 Phantom 2011 or Crown 2016 Please :)
My absolute favorite show from my corps ❤️ best reaction video from you so far
Do us Air Force pararescue plz
Courtney you're as beautiful as ever ❤️
Those are Tim Toms.

Hype!
Carolina Crown 2012
Please react to 1991 Phantom Regiment. Still the best version of Nessun Dorma (the 2012 closer) and several jaw dropping moments (one that probably wouldn't fly today lol).
Thank you for your request! I will research all of these further :) :)
Do Phantom Regiment 2010, please. It's a very emotional show.
You will not be disappointed. ruclips.net/video/cWc7vYjgnTs/видео.html
You should see Carolina Crown e=mc^2 or the Bluecoats Tilt
Courtney their uniforms not “costumes” 😂 I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal but that is an ongoing debate in DCI
And please E=mc2 and turn up the volume when you react to it
If you think that’s cool just react to the battle of the bands👍🏽
