Came upon this one late, double entendre intended lol, and enjoyed it as much as any other episode I’ve seen, probably more. About to turn 61 and had an alcoholic father, I think I have a small understanding of Vaughn’s struggles with letting it go, I have the same issue myself and my father has been passed for 12 years. What a blessing you were given Andy to have him as a father, a man who didn’t want to keep that cycle going with his kids, I hope I’ve been able to break it with mine. Must have back on soon, I could listen for hours and talk more given the chance. Mr Stumpf I only have listened to one of your children, but Andy is a great person and someone who helps me think differently which is invaluable! God Bless to all!
Love the podcasts, makes my eyes water and my heart fuzzy watching you grow up with Dylan and Ella. LOL for you and your dad, I have very fond memories of you both. Kind regards, Mark Harley
All you HOPE for is that your kids turn out ok, and as my father used say they are fairly intelligent considering the family they come from. Love me some Vaughn Stumpf, I wasn’t the beast dad but my kids loving me no matter what. God has given me a second chance with my grandkids. I don’t mine dying, I just don’t want to be there when it happens. Thank you so much for your heart felt insights. Kind regards, Mark Harley
I really struggle with listening to Papa Stumpf b/c he reminds me so much of my dad who is gone. I don't want to listen but then on the other hand I get the chance to hear my dad again, Thank You!
Thank you for sharing one of your most precious gifts. I am 78 and understand where he is coming from. Old age is difficult but the memories are great.
Isle of Islay is Scotland. Islay scotch generally has a very peaty/smoky taste from peat and seaweed. Seaweed gives it that iodine flavor that makes it taste like you are sucking on a penny. Very tasty and popular single malts, if your dad likes that flavor. Might want to get him a bottle from the Isle of Skye. Doesn't have that iodine flavor in it. Think there are now two different distilleries on Skye. Listening to your dad, he deserves it. Reminds me of my grandfather.
First on the scene of an accident/overdose in a small town in Maine. Responding officer heard me listening to Jocko, ended up talking about Andy's 7 jumps. Small world. Appreciatechyall, peaceloveandfishing
I see Papa Stumph, I hit "like" then I listen. It's pronounced Eyeluh btw. Population of the island is less then 3500, it's about 200 Square miles and has nine yes NINE distilleries and more are opening! Famous for it's peat flavoured whisky. Look for these: Ardbeg, Ardnahoe, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin, and Laphroaig. All delicious. Greetings to all from Scotland.
I had zero interest in attending my high school reunion when the the 10 Year came up. I had a small circle of friends in HS, and had little social interaction with the 120 or so kids in my graduating class, so I really didn't see the point. Same for the 20 year reunion. For some reason I decided to attend my 25th reunion and it turned out to be a great experience. What I realized was that we were all adults in our early 40's at the reunion, with more life experience and developed social skills. These were NOT the naive teenage versions of my classmates I remembered from our HS days, and I was not either.
This is one awesome Dad! Always love seeing a new Cleared Hot Pod episode picture w/ Stumpf Sr. The story at 1:09:41 for whatever reason made my day, sounds like Sr. has found a keeper!
Andy and Papa Stumpf, it is awesome to see you guys talk and how alike you are. I was wondering why you were so hilarious, Andy. Enjoy the time with your dad. I miss mine dearly and wish I had more time to have conversations like this.
Well I really enjoyed this. I can relate to your Dad and family. I meet with men like this over coffee and activities. The plain spoken word ! At 66 I spend time with a Master Gunney 81 years young. I am the kid. ENJOY HIM !
Oh Islays are the smokey version of Scotch. Ardbeg and Laphroaig are the popular ones. It is an acquired taste. I know a lot of scotch lovers who are not a fan of the smoke. Great show.
Just listened, but your dad is one of the funniest characters/guests that I've listened to. He makes me really miss my pops. Enjoy all of the time you can with him. Thanks.
Brilliant podcast Andy, you’re very fortunate to have your father, alive and a part of your life. This episode had me reflecting, pondering and enjoying the lessons life can only teach you, if you’re aware to receive them 🇺🇸 (my batt chief had the same type of walking stick) 🚒✌️💪🏻
@@HEWhitney1. It was the only whiskey allowed to be imported into the U.S. during prohibition. It came labeled as “medicine” and when the customs officers checked and tasted it they said it tasted so bad it couldn’t possibly be drunk for pleasure.
Love these episodes with you Dad. Believe this is the first time he has talked about still being a stoner and enjoying the dispensaries. And I’m here for it
It’s been a second since I’ve watched but I noticed the 212 behind your dad, I played hockey in Helena MT and we always talked about 212, water doesn’t boil at 100 it boils at 212 so we always used that saying as motivation to give more then 100% Still live in Clancy and I’m almost certain next week I’ll make it down to see the shop finally!!
I swear to god the dad episodes are my favorite I look like an idiot just busting out laughing in the middle of work not talking to anyone or anyone around me. I’d pay money to sit down and just spend an evening talking with him
Had me laughing 😂. Great show. On the matter of St. Nicholas. He had a gold robe withe the white beard. Wrapped candy 🍬 in colorful wrappers and went to orphanages to distribute them to kids. Now. The Santa we celebrate is the making of Macy's Miracle on 34th Street film.

As someone who's parents have never been close to them, this made me think about it and realize it not easy but it sometimes cutting it off is the right choice
I am at that stage with my Dad. Glad to listen to his advice. Sometimes you just have to do them hard choices and set them boundaries. My hard boundaries are my kids. Still try to reach out and talk, he don't. So I just send Christmas cards and birthday cards and what not. Therapy says it good to do things that way, and know that's it's not your fault and has nothing to do you.
Mr Vaughn is the single most relatable man with all his life experience. Protect Him at all costs.
Papa Stumpf! This man is legitimately my hero. His words kept me sane when the world was exploding.
Andy, If you read this, I really appreciate you sharing your dad with us. I lost mine 2 years ago, and yours just reminds me so much of my own.
100% gold. Santa Stumph is truly a national treasure.
I think ol' Vaughn was sampling his new hootch before taping... fantastic!

Pure gold with Vaughn Stumpf. Looking forward to the more frequent episodes with him.
Holy shit Andy. That’s gonna be you! No filter! This is great!
Single malt from Scotland. Good smoke and peat taste. Dram with a splash of water to bring out the flavors. Delicious.

This made my Monday much better! Papa Stumpf episodes are the BEST!!!
You guys will never know how important and helpful this cast was to me. Thanks for having the old man on, and thanks for the stuff you and he covered
Papa Stumpf… the legitimate most interesting man.
Awesome. Always love when Vaughn is on the show.
Andy, you have the greatest old man there ever was. They broke the mold on him. I bear truth and witness to this.
Oh Islays are the smokey version of Scotch. Ardbeg and Laphroaig are the popular ones. It is an acquired taste. I know a lot of scotch lovers who are not a fan of the smoke. Great show.

Papa Stumpf is the Dad that America needs right now.

We love Papa Stumpf!! Thanks for coming back on!!
Merry Christmas Santa! Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
This was awesome. I laughed all the way through. Father Christmas lives in Montana.
Man, that was some deep stuff. Shed some tears on this one. Your dad is an amazing person and man. Did an amazing job raising you.
Wanted to wait to get home to sit back and listen to Papa Stumpf bestow his wisdom upon us
Santa does Montana!! LOL! Always a treat to hear Mr. Vaughn Stump!
Let’s do this!
What a great episode. I wish I had been smart enough to have had conversations like this with my dad when he was alive. Opportunities lost.
Man. Just a few minutes in, and Andy has enough sound bites to last a year!
Papa Stumpf is fantastic. You’re just like him, Andy.
Islay whiskeys are great. I like Laphroig myself. And yes Islay is in Scotland.
Lagavulin.
Met a Scotsman wearing a kilt drinking around a campfire who said Laphroaig tastes like an Australian bush fire.

@@RayRayReddington Makes sense. It was the first single malt I ever tried in the early 80s. This was before Glenfiddich became mainstream.
I love this guy

Daddy Stumpf is a national treasure. I love the no filter attitude. A quality lost on the world today. Everyone is scared. Great podcast.

I see where Andy gets his level-headed attitude and dry sense of humor. What a cool pop.
