    For the people saying you can use "Use selected" for the runes, it's not what I meant with the tip. It doesn't matter whether you use "use" or "use selected" for it you will still get kicked out, need to watch the animation, go back into the menu and scroll back to your runes and do this for every tier of a rune (I'm not talking about using all runes within the same tier). Meanwhile selling the runes of various tiers or doing the R3 trick makes it much faster as it skips those steps, you can check this out for yourself.

    Here's a tip that I don't see anyone talking about; when you make crack or ritual pots, you can then deposit them into your storage box and free up the pots to be filled again without losing what you made. You can use this to make an auto refill of whatever you were using the most.

    Another tip: EXHAUST ALL DIALOGUE!
    Talk to npcs until they start repeating themselves. Often, there is an item or quest item buried 2 or 3+ lines of dialogue deep.
    Also, double tap circle on PS or B on XB to let go of and drop from ladders. Yes, you can plunge attack from this fall if you choose.

    Rolling in poison/rot "coats" your character. It adds a secondary increase to the effect on top of what you get for still being actively in the substance. It isn't just that it fills the gauge faster, as the coating will continue to fill the gauge even after you get out. Having some soap handy will remove the effect.

    For those of you who may not know there are certain enemies (noble casters and certain black knife assassins) that attack and go invisible or are always invisible while they attack. You can reveal them and see them if you have a special torch. I can't stress the usefulness of the beast repellent torch. I occasionally farm the dogs at the isolated merchant shack, it's not much but 1k each for a spell or two is nice. Going over 220 fp depends on how you look at it. You may never fill it up with one flask but anything over 220 fp delays when you will need to use a flask in the first place. It could buy you the time you need to reach a boss before you need to dig into a flask or it could mean the diffrence between running completely out before killing a boss and having just enough to finish a boss off.

    • @Magus_Union
      @Magus_Union 2 года назад +11

      You can also include 'Cerulean Seed Talisman' as a factor, as you can gain 44 more FP per flask based on calculations on the wiki. So making that a permanent part of ones builds and investing a bit more in that stat might be worth it.

    • @labordaze
      @labordaze 2 года назад +4

      You can also regain FP in other ways, like from talismans. So it can be worth going above 40, though probably not significantly above 40.

    • @harpingon
      @harpingon 2 года назад +9

      If you're going for the continuous use spells like Azurs Comet or Meteor, then more FP will really help. I agree about over healing though. So what I do is have a massive FP bar, to extend the time of my continuous cast once per boss, and then just use one flask at a time after that.

    • @shanksgrandpatz9245
      @shanksgrandpatz9245 2 года назад +13

      I also like having a slight margin, since there are definitely times I can't use every last FP in the bar.

    • @windhelmguard5295
      @windhelmguard5295 Год назад +1

      for a caster it is very important to have more FP than a flask restores as you don't really want to completely run out, you want to have a decent window in which your used FP can absorb a full flask, while still having enough FP left to not need it yet, this allows you to pop a flask on your own terms, when you know that it's safe to do so, instead of you needing to pop a flask because you ran out.
      what you certainly never want to happen is you actually hitting zero because then hitting the cast button by accident locks you in the fail animation for a few seconds, which has killed me a number of times.

For example, my current build required 53 endurance to increase equip load enough to avoid fat rolling with my desired armor and weapons. I'd like to argue, while going beyond 40 mind makes it seem moot because your flask has a max, there are several efficient reasons to go beyond your max to the cap. So I don't see this as a mistake unless I missed something in the video. But the rest I'd mostly agree with, especially the ladder one, I have helped many a host discover how to do that.
    1. More Focus to cast spells and the diminishing return hasn't begun so why not if you have the levels to give to it?
    2. I always find that I'm not always going to run out of mana every time I flask because I might flask early in order to be able to lay a combo on a boss if I feel a stagger is coming or the boss is going to change aggro to a summon. So it's nice to have a buffer because then I'm not wasting my flask at all by healing past my max but also maintaining extra mana so that I don't have to run out of mana to get the full effect of my tears and instead can regain focus when I have 1/4 left or something.
    3. There are ways to regain Focus points outside of your flasks, consumables, weapons that regen on kills, talismans that regen on kills, so I wouldn't always calculate the efficiency by the flask, maybe my mana runs out and I choose to top it off with my weapon for kills.

    Leveling beyond the blue flask cap can be useful if you're using abilities that don't exactly add up to 220 FP, and especially if you're using some alternative method of FP regen. There are a few useful talismans for this, and the Sacrificial Axe from one of the Deathbirds gives it natively on kill also. You won't regenerate a massive amount unless you're crit farming to stupid levels with the Assassin's Cerulean Dagger talisman from one of the dungeons in Liurnia, but every little bit counts.

    • @windhelmguard5295
      @windhelmguard5295 Год назад +1

      yea that is stupid advice, you always want to have a window during which you can make use of a full flask, without having run out of FP yet.
      this allows you to chose whether you want to use a flask now or wait for a safer opportunity to do so, which makes a huge difference in how you can approach combat, as you can pop a flask when it is safe (such as after a stance break), instead of you getting that "oh shit" moment where you run out of FP while the enemy is up in your face, forcing you to retreat, which wastes the stance pressure and status build up that you worked so hard to achieve.

    • @deadseven3474
      @deadseven3474 Год назад

      @@windhelmguard5295 It was the only thing on here I generally disagreed with. There are plenty of playstyles where "more FP now, worry about refilling later!" is a very valid strategy. You can easily run out of FP on skill/spell heavy builds and be forced to retreat instead of taking opportunities to add more pressure and deal damage. And honestly there are plenty of viable ways to regenerate FP passively. The Spirit Horn and Sword of Milos both allow you to regenerate FP on kills, for example. And if you reduce the cost of skills, then the bar lasts even longer. There's not very many downsides, other than maybe the argument that higher damage > More uses.

    You can also get faster through poison,rot or lava if you turn your character with the back into the direction you're heading to and dash backwarts by tapping the run button without moving the left stick - just for the case you don't have a dagger or enough FP.
    EDIT: the Royal Remains armor set protects extremely well against poison,even if it allready runs down your health - at around 20% health it starts to build up health and lowers the poison even if your standing in a pool of poison. If the armor also works with rot,I don't know...

    Going over 220 max fp can help make sure you get the most out of every flask, which can be very important for exploration or long fights.

      I would still go for the mind soft cap, for 40 mind to be efficient you need to fully deplete your FP before drinking another flask thus risking casting with no FP and ending up with that dreadful animation that can kill you. With more than 40 mind you can be sure to fully use your flasks without having to drain your FP to the bottom, also you get some extra casts when you refill your FP at a site of grace.

    • @tcroncero
      @tcroncero 2 года назад +1

      @@Thanos1908 More like the tip is misleading. I already knew about sliding down the ladder, with the special animation where you just hold onto the sides and go down. I thought he meant you could do the same, but going up - FALSE. Just like the other responder said, it makes you go a little faster, but it's not the equivalent of sliding up. And yeah, plenty of running away considering there's no END for strong armor and vigor is sacrificed for points in MND and INT. Meanwhile, with melee requirements, you can just get the basic requirements and upgrade it to be super powerful without much stat investment. Meanwhile, azure comet is 60 int!

    • @tcroncero
      @tcroncero 2 года назад

      @@Hartbreak1 So, I did end up going down to 40 MND and putting the points into INT. Definitely felt the difference, kinda annoying having to drink a lot more, so I began really focusing on how much damage each one does, and the FP cost per damage, so it didn't impact me as much. Cometshard seems like the sweetspot for a default spell. But I also ended up taking those extra points out of INT and into END, cause my vigor was already ok, and being able to wear heavier armor has a noticeable impact. ALL THAT BEING SAID, you are right that putting more than 40 points into MND isn't really a waist of points, there are advantages to doing it.

    Although it is not always ideal to have to flask shortly after you use up 220 FP, sometimes the boss is almost dead and you can finish it off without having to flask. It is very helpful sometimes to be able to hit things more and not have to flask as much, also with +10 to +12 flasks, you really don't need all of it anyway (you can get at least 12 +10 flasks before morgott for instance), so wasting is not usually a huge concern for me (I say usually because there are a few hard bosses like melania and radagon/EB, but for the most part flasks are plentiful enough), so I don't quite agree with your last point, it is not this straightfoward "it doesn't make sense to go beyond 40 mind" thing, but anyway...

    A quick note for the 40 mind cap cuz the fp restorations if you are willing to go for more mind you can use the ceruleum talisman for more fp restoration

  • @Matt513131
    @Matt513131 2 года назад

    Leaving mind at 40 is only efficient if you can drain your FP to 0 before using a flask of cerulean tears. More often than not, you're going to have some left over. If maximizing the efficiency of your flask is really a priority, a higher mind stat is to be desired.
    If you're a caster who wants to spam comet, 220FP will only last for 8 comets (208 FP). This means your flask of cerulean tears will restore only 208 when you use it, leaving 12 FP wasted. Even with 43 mind, enough to cast 9 comets, if you were to repeatedly cast comet until you run out, then use a flask, you would eventually waste 6 FP on your 7th flask. This is still significantly better than 40 mind however, where you would waste a total of 84 FP by your 7th flask. If you use a variety of spells this becomes a lot harder to calculate. If you really want to maximize your efficiency, try and make sure your FP pool is sufficient to cast all of your spells enough to consume at least 220 FP. This might still lead to the occasional wastage, but it will be reduced significantly compared to a mind stat of 40.
    EDIT: FP Scaling has changed in the most recent patch. 38 mind is now all you need to reach 220FP. 42 Mind will be sufficient to avoid waste in most cases, unless using only very high cost abilities (such as blessing of the erdtree).

    Thank you! Really appreciate the tip about Mind, because it does feel like you want to just pump it as high as it can go, but wasting flasks negates the benefits!

      You still want to go a bit higher than 40, because at exactly 40 you will be wasting FP unless you deplete the bar in its entirety before using a flask, which is unrealistic at best and at worst can risk locking you into the "not enough FP" animation. It's generally much more efficient to have enough FP to where you can use a flask at around 10% and not waste anything.

    • @chasm5227
      @chasm5227 2 года назад +1

      @@danielhounshell2526 Agreed, and on top of that there are several items in the game that make it worthwhile to go beyond that cap. For example the mixed physic can restore FP as well and you can also equip a couple different talismans that regen your FP off kills and criticals. The bigger your bar the better in that case because that means you will more than likely always have space for FP recovery and not waste the talismans. Also having a large FP bar can make it so you can cast high level sorceries and incantations many more times before running out which can be super beneficial in the midst of a battle.

    With vigor and mind like you said its not worth going to high up past what a flask can heal but one should have a comfortable buffer.
    For vigor having enough for about 1 and 1 half flask or till you don't get one shotted by a boss. For me with high armor im good at vigor of 30 with some hp boosting talismans like soreseals and erdtree favor.
    For mind its good to have more than a flask can recover plus one or two of your most used spells or more depending on your comfort since it will be impractical to always have your fp drain yo exactly zero every time.
    For me a mind of 10 is fine since some of the most useful ashes for str/endurance builds like barricade use so little FP its unlikely ill go thru the 67 FP plus one flask in one boss

    Torches can be usefull when you have the extra types. Like if you have the Beast repelling torch you can pretty much ignore the wildlife (including dogs and bears!) if you dont mock them directly they remain passive(except a fewl like the giant runebears). There is a few area where the boss hanging around with beasts and you can ignore thm if you have this on your back (you no need to hold it in your hand jsut need to be equiped)
    The Sentry one will reveal the invisible, concealed folks (sadly works on nothing else, like invisible scarabs or illusion walls...etc except one dungeon where its works (???) and nowhere else in this way)
    These are really specific uses but this worth them to have around.

    You can still get the Arsenal Talisman even if you don't speak to Naphtali before Godrick. I didn't find out about this NPC until after killing Godrick. The Arsenal Talisman is in the Altus Tunnel on the Altus Plateau, but it's quite a bit further away. Certainly talking to the NPC gets it for you sooner.

    Heyyy, so since this is early I got a question for anyone doing an arcane build…
    So, I wanna do a “Morgott” build. I’m curious about what talisman and wondrous physique I should use, as well as stats. I have his sword and omen barin, as well as his cloak and rune. I just wanna know what I could use to best replicate his play style and stats. I did the same for Radahn and Rennala, which wasn’t that hard, but Morgott is a tricky one because he also uses summonable magic-based weaponry as well.

    If we have to get technical - you can restore more than 220 Focus Points with your Flask by using a Talisman providing this exact effect. Same can be applied with another talisman boosting your HP but obviously hitting a Vigor way higher than what your Flask can restore is a good idea in most builds - especially in PvP. I'm currently literally one-shotting 99% of the players at lvl 160 with 3 different PvP characters.

    You can use all runes in a stack by using the "use all" or "use amount" option instead of crushing them all individually.
    Also, if you wanted to add more mind past the 220 mark there are fp regen consumables that can make up the rest. Not entirely sure how viable that is though

    There is still value in going past 40 mind. If you have exactly as much FP as the flask restores you are wasting restoration if you try to restore FP before completely exhausting it. If your spell of choice doesn't divide equally into 220 then this would be all the time. It would also mean you need to run out of FP before refilling it which could lead to you being unable to attack at an awkward time for that to happen. This isn't a big deal for non-pure spellcasting builds but is relevant for them.

  • @mrfreeman1763
    @mrfreeman1763 2 года назад

    I would say go to 44 or higher on Mind because you always have a remainder of FP that you can't use, you would just be wasting that if you had the exact mana pool for the flask.
    And honestly, like in all FromSoft games, you definitely want to have the NPC Wiki on your other screen, doesn't matter how good you are, NPC quest lines in these games are finicky and esoteric.
