      You are missing something....in that the Watchers Greatsword probably outdamages the Guts greatsword at extreme high levels of strength...perhaps 80 plus. There is a sweet spot between bad8e damage and scaling ...maybe guts GS is better at 60 str and watcher better at 80plus str...maybe! Idk ! I agree and love the video tho. The be more clear, I only disagree when you say "one is better than the other"...you have to try differentt levels of str and DeX to truly see any weapon. There is a build out there where even the most obscure weapons shine. Love the videos you make however, and I agree with 95 percent as stated! Keep them up...obscure scaling tests me likey!

      Nope scaling works how it's always worked your confused because your not using all the stats to calculate, the requirements make a difference the sword with 11 str and 12 dex will always end up better than a 10 str 10 dex requirement, this is why you should be using the requirements along the base scaling before deciding on weapons to level up.

From the weapons I use (not saying this is always the case), but when the weapon that requires a higher attribute in that category, it usually wins out. Hand of Malenia requires 48 Dex. Honestly, your comparison between these 2 weapons of different weapon categories is kinda odd. Like, Greatsword on a str build is gonna do more dmg per hit than Malenia's on a dex build. It's just that Malenia's, it being a much faster and obviously smaller weapon, will be able to get it's dmg out faster than Greatsword. This is an odd comparison you've chose to go after to support your dmg requirement argument, but I guess I'll let it slide because you clearly don't understand what you're talking about because it's likely ER is your first souls game.

    Not only is none of this explained in game (or really in the wiki either), but it feels like you need to spend the resources to upgrade multiple weapons just to compare them and pick which one you want to use.

    • @felipecouto1102
      @felipecouto1102 Год назад +5

      Its kinda unfair to point it like that because, tbh, Nizar didn't spoke the full truth here. In his first example, Warhawk's Talon actually DOES scale better: it has +323 damage against the Broadsword's +282. That's what scaling governs. What he ommited is that, actually, Warhawk's Talon is an overall weak weapon damage wise. Its base damage at +25 is lower than the Broadsword.
      The reason why the Broadsword did more damage is 2 things:
      . First, Broadsword's base damage is WAY higher than the Warhawk's Talon. Both standard at +25, Broadsword gets nearly 290 damage, while the Warhawk's is near 240.
      . Second, 80 is the highest cap, the HARD cap, meaning you can't get more damage from Dex past that. In Keen affinity, the soft caps are 20 (meaning, until 20 dex is where you will get the MOST damage per level), 60 (meaning it has diminished returns from 21 to 60), and 80 (meaning, from 60 to 80, you will BARELY gain any damage). The Broadsword has a high B scaling in Dex (meaning its almost A in scaling) while the Warhawk's is A, but not nearing S, so the difference in what both of them gain from the Keen affinity is not that distant.
      That is because the Talon has a different moveset that is a double swipe, both at full damage, so the overall damage of the weapon probably had to be reduced to not deal double the damage of other swords in its Heavy attack.

    There's also the importance of damage type when looking at different weapon categories, where Standard, Piercing, Slashing, & Striking can all have an effect on which one ends up putting out more total damage, based on what you're fighting.
    An easy example to see this with is Radahn's Starcaller Swords vs the Fallingstar Beast Jaw. When maxed out, the Fallingstar Beast Jaw has a higher AR and literally all of the numerical stats are greater than the Starcaller Swords …but if you're testing the damage on the Albinaurics at the Mohgwyn hill, the Starcaller Sword's attacks will always deal greater damage per hit.

I noticed i missed a dungeon in the swamp area by the dragon burnt ruins (the mine in the north west tip, with the graveminner troll as a boss, i think was its name). The regular enemies there are made of stone or something and a +5 curved greatsword bounced off them each hit and did less damage per hit than a +2 basic whip.

  • @Ganon999
    @Ganon999 2 года назад

    From what I've seen from a few sources is that the scaling isn't the only factor that makes a weapon have high AR, it's the weapons with an already higher than average base AR in addition to their scaling that makes them good. Like you said in the video of course and well done explaining this important bit of information.

  • @AscendantStoic

    10:34 For customizable weapons you can always switch the overall weapon scaling to Blood, Poison or Occult to get the built-in bleed to scale with Arcane.

    • @tonyhotte2936
      @tonyhotte2936 Год назад +1

      Bleed doesnt scale with arcane unless the weapon also scales with arcane. You wont get more bleed value for arcane if your weapon scales with dex/str for exemple.

  • @jamesputterlik225
    @jamesputterlik225 2 года назад +7

    The thing about scaling is that it is based on the weapons base damage. Even if it has an S scale in a stat, that scaling is based on the damage associated with that stat. Example: weapon does 150 phys and 75 elemental damage. Phys has C in both str and dex, and an A in relevant stat for that element. Because the base damage for that element is considerably lower, there is the likelihood that the phys damage will grow far faster than the elemental damage even if you pump hard into the element's relevant stat.
    In pure phys weapons, this means that even with the str and dex scaling, you may get a weaker weapon than one with a higher scaling if the base damage is lower.
    If you want to get a good idea of which will be stronger, just look at how much growth you get to the base damage when upgrading weapons.

  • @petkofuchalski9809

    I think from soft need to put "+" and "-" on the weapon scealing grades to make it easier to understand where exactly your weapon is on the grade treshhold. Like for moonveil for ex.
    B+ for int, B- for dex and D for str.

    Let's be honest, in every Dark Souls game, weapon damage didn't mattered that much. It was always all about what you like to use. So why people thought Elden Ring would be any different?
    Of course, damage is important, but not as important as movement suited to your playstyle. That's something I absolutely love about From Software games. It's true variety. In most RPGs, you are practically forced at some point to use most damage dealing weapon, even if you're not liking it that much, because finishing the game without it would be a nightmare. Not in FS games. You like to use standard straight sword? You can use it effectively to the very end of the game. That's why upgrading your weapon is way more important, than switching to a weapon with slighting more base damage.
    Same goes for armor. Difference in some heavy set in light set in terms of defense will never be high enough to consider light armor pointless. Fashion > Defense.

    Another thing to consider is that you can't really compare AR between weapons if one of them does different damage types. Since enemies have residtances to different damage types, a weapon like Moonveil has more of its damage reduced, compared to say, an Uchi that has its damaged only reduced by slash resistance and not by magic resistance.

    I'm glad you mentioned the attack speed and ranger. I was worried you'd gloss over it and not not that it is a factor.
    The only input I have for this video is that you shouldn't worry about having the best stats. If the weapon you like does 30 less damage than your strongest weapon, just go with the one you like more. Whether you like the look of the weapon or another attribute of it, pick the one you like best. Seldom is a small damage difference gonna be the difference between defeat and victory. I'd recommend players build their character around the weapon they plan to focus on or the weapons if running katana and spears or something. Don't try to over reach your build by trying to use every weapon you see. Stick to a few you really like and try to build around them.

    This guy gets it!!! This is why I always check Hand AR for multiple infusions before committing. Running a quality build with a 25% bias into dexterity, so some weapons are best quality, others keen, others heavy (when two handed).
    I first noticed something was off of this nature with the Astora Greatsword and Painting Guardian Curved Sword in DS3. At the end of the day, scaling is all misdirection and inner mechanics. The only thing you should be concerned about is class moveset, unique moveset, and then (if infusable) whichever infusion produces the highest "Right/Left hand Damage" value (with some accounting for how split damage is nerfed by flat defenses).

      Use whatever weapon you want as long as you're having fun that's what matters when you think about the damage negation in regards to a player and enemies in PVE you have to acknowledge that a difference in 20 to 30 Armament damage isn't a lot of actual damage when you think about it when you're swinging a regular swing with anything but a colossal Greatsword are you hitting the numbers that your armament damage is? No shit even with big weapons unless you're talking about boosted jumped attacks or other boosted attacks but regardless it's such a minut difference you would just be diluting you're playing experience to try and get such a little increase use whatever weapons you want use whatever ashes of War you want and have fun 🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇 most people don't realize that 10 levels into increasing your strength or trying to completely optimize your damage unless you're using all of your talismans and additional Buffs that are percentage-based you're getting very little very very little increase in actual damage when you could be getting more survivability or more adaptability adding more different things to your character whether it's different weapons different spells incantations different things to deal with different situations a lot of people get caught up in damage but you end up nerfing your character by trying to go all for damage like when I kill a sorcerer with 1 swing and they had 800HP like I get it if you kill someone you won't die but like it's not worth it.

    I think the misconception about scaling in regards to S being better than A is that the weapons don’t start at the same AR and the scalings simply add a multiplier to the base AR. So if you have a higher base, but slightly lower scaling it’ll still come out on top. There is also different grades within a single letter scaling. So a C in scaling for one weapon might not have the same multiplier as another because it’s more of a bracket.

    Good content - but i think information is missing that may cause some misunderstandings. Specifically the moonveil example, it has split scaling for split damage - int ONLY effects the magic damage portion of the weapon, the physical part scales with dex. In PvP the higher AR isnt always going to do the highest AR on the stat sheet - just based of how defenses work when it comes to split damage.

    It seems to me that the base stat requirements also have an effect on overall damage output when considering scaling. Looking at the examples shown in the video weapons with the higher stat requirement get the better scaling for whichever stat you are considering. I could be wrong, however that has been my impression playing.

    Something else I wish you mentioned is that ashes of war often don't scale with the same stats as the weapon.

  • @reluctantsocialist2670
    @reluctantsocialist2670 Год назад

    The greatsword bit at the beginning makes total sense though, the Guts greatsword starts with higher base physical damage so it's scaling from a higher point right from the off and finishes slightly ahead in terms of overall output than it started, being 18 points ahead to start and 22 to finish. The other thing you don't seem to take into account is the fact that testing has long known you get better scaling if you split your stats rather than meet the bare minimum for the lower and pump them all in the higher. For example, you can get better damage output by having less strength and some extra dex with some greatswords
