    I use the FS91R Stihls. I have 8 of them and I have never had to replace a carb. I never drain the fuel prior to winter. Put fuel stabilizer in it and run it for about a minute. Change your filters and plug and you should be fine.
    The reason you’re getting a hundred dollar bill is the carb is around 35.00 plus markup and labor. Thats actually pretty cheap.

    Hey man great video. I have run my own lawn service for 35 years. I can remember learning how to rebuild carbs. Got me a pressure gauge/pump bulb. I have rebuilt more carbs than you could imagine. Over time with my vision failing/ethanol fuel etc. I started jusy buying a new carb. I replaced carbs for about the last 10 years. Last year I threw away approx.100 carbs. I just cant see well enough plus I shake a lot. During the first few years of ethanol fuel I wound up facing passages being plug with crystalline. Most of my rebuilds starting to fail, I became aware that pulling the welch plugs to get .008 guitar strings to unblock the passages…….then I had to grind a screwdriver to form a welch plug punch. The straw that broke the camels back was finding an ethanol compatible sealant for the welch plugs……which btw Krazy Glue will seal them, but Super Glue will not. After spending the last 8-10 years buying Stihl oem carbs at around $40-50 each…….I started buying Amazon Carbs for $10-15 each and out of about 25-30 I have had 100% success. I may have missed if , but what was allowing the sawdust to bypass the in tank filter allowing it to stop at the inlet screen?

      I have rebuilt so many carbs in the last 25 plus years of working on these small engines that I love doing them. I get it about shaking, I'm getting there to. But if I concentrate on what I'm doing I stop shaking.
      The old Homelite chainsaws with the big Walbro or Tilliston always had sawdust in the inlet screen. I stop trying to figure it out.
      The new fuel is just killing our small engines, but I guess that is what they want. The first time in my life I have seen fuel turn green. Even addictive's are not working around here. I have always used nail polish to seal my welch plugs and have had good luck with it, color is preference.

    I have a Stilh trimmer, just a different number, 110. Twelve years never drain for winter. Just set aside untill spring comes. I never use ethanol fuel. Here in Canada, high test contains no ethanol. My trimmer works good. Replaced the cam gear today. Cam was in perfect shape, problem was the decompression tab was not returning to running position. Just a new cam and back in business.

    You need to get a maintenance manual. It will come apart much easier and go gack together quicker too.

    Don't drain them. I had the same thing happen to a chainsaw. They go gummy if they're drained. I have a FS90 brush cutter that is 9 years old and starts like a champ every spring. I no longer have problems with my saw or leaf blower either.

    • @RetroGamingWithHopper

      I try to tell people that but they don't lesson. I leave gas in my all my small engines year-round and have very little trouble with them. Some people think you're full of crap when you tell them that. So I will fix them ever year for them.

    • @jimdent351
      @jimdent351 Год назад

      @@RetroGamingWithHopper I learned my lesson on my chainsaw. I bought it brand new and used it for a few hours. Afterwards I drained the fuel and put it away for a year. When I went to use it it ran poorly and kept flooding. A mechanic friend of mine said to never drain them the way I did and I was better off to keep gas in year round and just run it every few months to avoid drying out. I've never had fuel go bad in them, and in the case of the chainsaw which is only used once a year I'll empty the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in every 6 to 8 months.

      @williamodom2580 Год назад

      All of you that say don’t drain your small engines at the end of the season, first of all you have to drain the fuel left in the carb, I always run the engine until it stops running and then drain the fuel left in the carb. How can carburetor gum up if the is no fuel left in the carb? I have always drained the fuel from the engine and carb and have never had an issue with my equipment starting in the spring and by the way I always use non ethanol fuel in my units.

    • @jimdent351
      @jimdent351 Год назад

      @@williamodom2580 You can NEVER get all the fuel out of a diaphragm carburetor, and the less there is the quicker the carb goes completely dry. Even if there's only 1/4 tsp left behind that 1/4 tsp will dry up in the matter of a few months whereas if it was left alone with a full carb then it would have taken much longer to go dry.
      You do not have to drain them. My dad's 2 saws were purchased in 1991 and have never had the carburetors serviced, nor has the fuel ever been ran out of them. Like I said, you cannot run all the gas out anyway. They were used fairly extensively for 2 or 3 years and then went years without being used again. It's been about 5 years since I've heard them run but they ran just fine when they did.
      If you are talking about draining carburetors with a float bowl then I would agree with you, but you cannot get all the fuel out of a diaphragm carb. The less there is left behind the sooner it will evaporate and leave gumming behind. If you're draining your carb really late in the year and then refilling it a couple months later then you're probably going to be alright if the temp. in which you store your equipment is kept low. If you drained it and left it for a prolonged period at warmer temperatures then you'll likely have problems.

      Well Jim I’m 78 years old been doing it my way since I bought my first lawn boy mower back in 1968 when I bought my first house that mower lasted me 22 years without a problem so I think I’ll keep taking care of my small engine equipment the way I have been doing it since I was 22 years old

    Must have some really poor quality fuel up there for that to happen. I would suggest maybe running a tank of Alkalyte fuel through the tank before storage (Stihl motomix or Aspen 2).

    Very Good Video, TIP never add ETHANOL GAS to a Small Engine, Weed Trimmer, Chain Saw, Lawn Mower, only use """PURE GAS""" it Cost a Little More, However, it will not DESTROY your CARBURETOR, Ethanol gas will even Melt the Filter in the Gas Tank on Old Vehicles,
