    Note that Okoye didn't "got fed up the other guy doesn't follow traditions" and "I'm glad she did see it though". She's still following the loyalty she has for the throne of Wakanda. When T'Challa reappears, Killmonger lost his right to the throne, because as T'Challa said, he neither yield nor he's dead, which means he's the rightful King and so Okoye is just following tradition and fighting for the legitimate king of Wakanda, which is T'Challa.

    The best villains are ones you can understand and even empathize with.
    Killmonger - misguided, but his rage and desire for revenge is understandable,. and he is seeking to carry on the mission of his father.
    Zemo - the death of his family drove him to try to rid the world of enhanced people. It was mostly vengeance, but also a belief that super powers were destabilizing and needed to be purged from the world.
    Thanos - well.... we'll get to him later.... 😉

    Glad to see my favorite pair of reactor ladies experiencing The Black Panther for the first time.
    26:40-26:55 It wouldn't be much of a "Challenge for the Throne" If The Strength of The Black Panther were held by the current occupant of the Throne. The Black Panther has strength, speed, agility and stamina far beyond what the challenger would have.
    33:25-33:40 There was an official time to challenge for the Throne, at which time any "worthy" to challenge could not be refused. T'Challa would not be able to refuse a challenge except by yielding, after the Time of Challenge was over, another could challenge, but the King would not be obliged to accept the challenge, and since T'Challa chose to accept the challenge, the Throne would pass to the challenger, if the challenge was accepted and lost.
    34:00-34:15 As far as the "outsider" vs M'Baku, at least M'Baku was raised to respect Wakanda and Wakandan traditions. M'Baku would make a more acceptable king. I'm sure you've heard the term "choosing the lesser of two evils"
    When T'Challa showed up alive, and he had never yielded, this means that "Soulmonger" has not won/earned the throne yet. Therefore, Okoye and the Dora Milaje are not bound to serve him, until the issue of the throne is settled between king and challenger.

    Prince T'Challa was set to be crowned King by basic voice vote at the start of the movie; the tribes (Merchant, Mining, River, Border) had seen him be a capable regent for King T'Chaka for however many years, and none stepped forward to challenge his claim to the throne... until the Jabari came down from the mountains to do so.
    My guess is that most transfers of power of power have come by a similar voice ascent, where the regent is deemed capable of being an effective King, so there's no fight.
    The "fight to the death" part likely only comes up when there's disagreement of the fitness of the regent to lead, and I think having that tension cleaned up, with the rivals being knocked off before the crowning, is a rather effective way to quell any possible political unrest

    • @alexanderthegreat5649
      @alexanderthegreat5649 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, the history of Wakanda post its foundation with the 5 tribes following Beshenga the 1st B. Panther is that his tribe is the golden tribe.... Golden, River, Border, Merchant, Jabbari. The Golden Tribe has always ruled. T'Challa, T'Chaka are all direct from the Beshenga. There's been very little infighting and, therefore, different houses ruling. They've always been fine with the Golden tribe the first panther/king/ruler that united them and led them to prosperity being the kings. The ceremony we saw was essentially a formality for centuries even T'Challa said he was going to be crowned as if there was no possibility he wouldn't be king even though the opportunity for any royal member to challenge for a mantle was there.
      Also, some have been confused by the challenge thing and how T'Challa was BP w/o being king and asked, "So anyone can just challenge and become King/BP?"
      Nah, both are royal titles. Zuri said, "Is any member of ROYAL blood... I offer a path to the throne." Royal which movie wise has been less explained than other movies/shows do with such matters, and isn't limited to *King, Queen, Prince, Princess* M'Baku was addressed by T'Challa as "Lord M'Baku" he's highborn as other films would put it but his bodyguards for example couldn't make the same challenge. Even Killmonger was changed to being related to the film(he's not in the comics) for a specific reason. The heart-shaped herb is toxic to non-royal members. In fact, when in the comics, Killmonger defeats him and takes the herb it almost killed him he was in a coma for a long time. You can challenge to be king, or BP, or both. Eric challenged for both, Baku only challenged for King as the Jabbari tribe don't follow the Panther goddess Bast as he said glory to "Hanuman" the ape god. Nor do they like the use of vibranium, but yeah, things have run so smooth in Wakanda that no one's cared to challenge the status quo. T'Chaka was able to retire as the Panther(because of age)and have T'Challa pick it up while he still ruled as king w/o anyone challenging or upset because hey everyone's thriving no need to change things.

    • @igweugo
      @igweugo 3 месяца назад

      @@alexanderthegreat5649 The Jabari didn't follow Bashenga; they isolated themselves in the mountains.
      And the part about relatively little infighting is goofy too, as the line that T'Challa was of only had 6 Kings before him (with Wakanda lore already including tales of folks, outside of the immediate royal line, being called upon to correct royals who were out of line).
      We don't know how many wives or concubines Bashenga had before or after the herb (the toxic herb not killing him would inherently mean that there was something in his blood/genome that made the herb safe for him), and we don't know how his heir and other seed lived their own existences.
      But we do know that Bashenga was 8,000 BCE, making it 10,000 years from Bashenga to the modern times of T'Chaka and his children.
      That's over 350 generations since Bashenga, lol; in a world where 4 generations of separation is usually suggested to avoid any genetic closeness issues, the people today, in MCU canon, with some genetic link to Bashenga (at least in the ruling class of Wakanda) is deeply misunderstood.
      A warrior/shaman, apparently not of the 4 tribes, is made King of Wakanda... yet he doesn't pick his bride from the ruling class of one of the 4 tribes? Or have his heirs do the same?
      Nakia was the champion of the River tribe (and potentially kin to the River Tribe elder); T'Challa looking to have a relationship makes sense. Okoye would've been of similar prospects, but she was already married to W'Kabi, the champion of the Border Tribe (also positioned for the throne).
      If you go back far enough, T'Challa, Nakia, Okoye, and W'Kabi likely all have a descendant whose genetic material ties back to Bashenga.
      But that's all a trickier story to tell

    • @igweugo
      @igweugo 3 месяца назад

      @@alexanderthegreat5649 fairly certain that Zuri's "of royal blood" decree was specific to those royal from this current dynasty (of which T'Challa would be the 7th King). Children of T'Chaka, children of N'Jobu, any other siblings that T'Chaka may have had and their children, siblings of King Azzuri and their children, etc.
      If there's an honored claim to royal lineage, then that person could challenge directly.
      Short of that, you'd have to be a champion of one of the tribes; the film series began with 4 champions, but ended in WF with 5 champions able to challenge.
      Winning combat makes you King; surviving the heart-shaped herb proves your link to Bashenga and allows you to be Black Panther.
      No doubt in my mind that, in the 10000 since Bashenga, there has been many a warrior, with the strength to be crowned King, who ended up dying when consuming the heart-shaped herb.

    In the prelude comic tied to the events of this movie, it’s revealed that T’Challa had already been Black Panther since around the same time that Tony Stark became Iron Man. T’Chaka continued to be king but had retired the mantle of Black Panther and passed it on to his son who was still the crown prince of Wakanda at the time.
    Young T’Chaka in the Oakland 1992 flashback was portrayed by John Kani’s real life son Atandwa.
    Griot, the Wakandan A.I., was voiced by South African comedian Trevor Noah.
    Finally, while we all mourn Chadwick Boseman, I would also like to acknowledge the late Dorothy Steel. She portrayed the Merchant Tribe Elder.
    She passed away in October 2021, but she was able to reprise her role in the sequel Wakanda Forever which would be her final film released posthumously. Miss Dorothy was 95.
