Welcome back to Daniel Villa Art Studio reboot, Printmaking edition!
This week I am reviewing Speeball's Block Printmaking Ink Oil Based! A tube of this printmaking ink will start at $1.36 per .25 oz. Compared to the Professional Relief Ink coming in at $0.42 for .25 oz this little tube is expensive is a little expensive, which is the number one takeaway. It does redeem itself in that little bit really goes a long way. I was able to use a small amount to print nine (9) notebooks and still leave a fair amount left on the Inkplate, brayer and block. The oil really works in your favor with lightfastness which is excellent. Workability, you don’t have to roll ink and print in a hurry. The ink will stay supple and wet for a long period of time, which is beneficial if you are working in large editions. Since it takes longer to dry, it doesn’t create clumps as quickly as water-based inks or the Professional line. It also has a gentle smell, which for me is a huge plus since I always end up hanging dozens of prints in my studio. Didn’t get a headache or felt high while working with this ink. My brain cells live to print another day.

Hi, Can you give me any recommendations for Speedball oil based ink when it gets plasticky to give it better consistency
Would the speedball professional tin be a good choice for printing on. T shirts?
I would use their Fabric Block Printing ink for that!
Do you do a review on that bigger ink in the tin?
I can make one!
Hello Daniel.. Can I thin the oil-based Ink with .. say Alcohol, Paint Thinner? or whatever you suggest?
I would use transparent base to thin out ink.
