PROBLEMS in Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca | May 2024 Update

- So we are looking at some early season Problems in Puerto Pollensa which need resolving. Filmed on 17 May 2024, I take a look at what's going on with the beach services, an active building site near the Hobby Club Apartments, and the taxi situation in Puerto Pollensa.
Most importantly, I talk about the one issue that needs highlighting and even policing in Puerto Pollensa regarding cyclists in the resort centre and on the Pink Walk. So please take note of the signs (I admit they could be bigger!).

Thanks for the update :) We are back in July than I am sure the sun beds will be on the beaches. I am really against cyclists riding in the walking zone. You always have to be on the lookout and move out of their way which is wrong in my opinion.
I agree - there should be clearer signs and it should be policed better

Hi Alex, thank you for mentioning about the cyclists. We were there for the first ten days in May. There were hundreds of cyclist. In the town centre they would cycle thru in droves. We had to jump out of their way. Some were not careful at all. When crossing the road on crossings they would not stop for you to cross. It was quite dangerous. Cyclists seem to believe they are a law unto them selves. If there had been police in the area we would have complained
That’s not great at all - the police would make a fortune handing out fines
Completely agree with you re cycling but it is ignored by so many.
What a fantastic update Alex. Absolutely love the views of puerto pollenca. It’s a bit disappointing about the sun beds but I know you will be asking all about that for us. And I can’t comment on the cyclists or I would get banned 😂

Still no sunbed as on the 16th June. At the moment no access to beach services , this would be really difficult if you have a disability. The pop up bars are missing…. The additional bits that make this beautiful bay a little more special. We are still charged the full tourist tax😊
Amazing. You would have thought given the money generated by sun beds etc they would be clamouring to provide the facilities. The world is going mad!
Puerto Pollensa is my fav area in Majorca. I will be there in June! Not long to go now :)

Joking apart, Puerto pollensa looked Idyllic and peaceful in May..... obviously my favourite resort , along with the pollensa old town, as I have said a few times now.

Thanks for all your information Alex. It's been really helpful for our planning a holiday in Puerto Pollensa. We arrive in 4 weeks time. Planning to do some walking. Wondering if you know anything about the Puig da Santa Maria near Pollensa old town? I read that it used to be open to visit and had a cafe. Do you know if it will be open again in June? I understand some works have been going on there recently. Thanks
Ohhh I must take a run up there at some point before it gets hot and check it out !
I just got back from Mallorca, I stayed 15 mins away from the airport. The sunbeds for the whole day cost 18 euros. Right not it’s not crazy hot, so I say just use a blanket you will be fine
Hi Alex,as a regular visitor of puerto pollensa i really appreciate your update videos ,will be so glad when i see the beach services up and running it does'nt feel like summer yet!! also your right about the cyclist they always cycle through the centre instead of walking we have seen the police tell them to get off there bikes but they still do it!! 🙄🤔

Alex, you talked a lot about taxis but failed to warn people of the rogue drivers that constantly attempt to rip people off.
As a warning to all….be SURE to get a quote/price for your journey up front! ….even pay them the said quote when you get in the cab!…. Watch out folks….you have been warned and advised.😊 Sunny holidays and good luck to everyone!✌️

3 years after it opened in 1929, Agatha Christie stayed at the Illa D'Or. Couple of years later her book - Problem in Pollenca was published. Could be a good read.

Great channel- very helpful! I'm leaving this Friday for a week, flying from Edinburgh (didn't know it was English half term!) and it's purely for cycling. Staying at the Aparthotel Duva and Spa. Can anyone advise what supermarket is decent and close by(no car) and also any recommendations for a "billy no mates" restaurant should I decide to eat out...Bit awkward (missus is staying at home looking after our elderly doggy) travelling alone and feeling self-conscious sitting at a restaurant table on your own! Would probably eat early evening as I'm likely to be in bed for 9pm as I want to get up with the lark to get to the bucket list places on the bike before the cars and buses arrrive!!! Looking forward to it, much shorter flight than Tenerife and way more bike friendly from what I can see!!!
Will there be alternative sunbed and umbrella hire in mid June while the retender process is not settled
I love Puerto Pollensa. We have just arrived back from there and had a lovely time. I first came back in 2016, and have to say it seemed a lot more busy than it did back then, which I guess is a good thing for local businesses etc.
The area seemed to be inundated with cyclists, most were okay but you got the odd group that thought they owned the place, which was dangerous and I was always wary of them given our 5 year ols daughter was with us.
I was surprised that the locals couldnt give me an actual number for a taxi firm ans instead pointed me toward the Mallorcab app. It was not too bad getting a cab from our villa to the old towns in both Pollensa ans Alcudia, although we did have some trouble in finding taxis to take us back to PP.
The sunbed situation was really annoying, my parents came along and are both in their eaely 60s, they did not really want to go on the beach as they didn't fancy getting up and down from the sand. Also - take a good mosquito repellent!!!!
That said, Puerto Pollensa is still one of my fav holiday destinations, would recommend it to anybody - we will definitely be back. The Sea Bar is one of our favourite places and the Pine Walk is just stunning. My little girl asked me if we could live there 😂.

I’m a cyclist and I agree with you and comments here. There some very arrogant cyclists unfortunately that give all a bad name.

I’ve just returned from P.P stayed at Hotel Daina, Superb . hotel with own pool jotting out to sea with FREE sunbeds & unbrellas. W.c facilities. Bar & lounging area.

In such a busy tourist area, I would really suggest that 'pedestrian area' signs are also in English (and probably German). That would avoid any claims of ignorance.
I don't think I've seen them anywhere else on the island, so I would hold my hand up, that I cold easily miss them.
It should be better sign posted, I agree.. and in all languages!
In pollensa now in Pollentia. Beautiful and no beach chairs but that not an issue for us . Very quiet and we are not old

Hi Alex, vielen Dank, dass du das Problem mit den Radfahrern noch einmal aufgreifst. Wir sind gerade in Pto. P. und leider sind viele Radfahrer rücksichtslos und mit viel Speed unterwegs und bleiben auch nicht immer auf ihrer Spur. Es ist oft ziemlich gefährlich und es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, wann etwas passiert. Viele Fussgänger denken auch nicht daran, dass sie aus beiden Richtungen angerauscht kommen. Ich würde mir vom Gemeinderat eine Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung für Radfahrer wünschen. Liebe Grüße!

I can fully understand the local residents angst, I am just back from a ten day break in the Port and yes it getting to the stage that the cyclists are becoming a PITA, unfortunately it’s the minority spoiling it for the majority, they don’t stop on the pedestrian crossings even though the cars do and just zoom on past at great speed in large groups which is an accident waiting to happen, on a couple of days there was Police patrols stopping them from riding their bikes from the pedestrian area at the 1919 cafe and also along the pine walk.
I have to admit the sheer volume of cyclists has made it horrendous caused by the bad behaviour of a minority group

Spanish bureaucracy WHAT A JOKE IT IS, DISGRACEFUL they always have some sort if issues.
Awe my wee beach across from our hotel the Miramar I walk along. Unfortunately to due to family health we haven’t made it in a few years but it’s always nice to see it. seems quiet on the Walk. Cyclist need to remember there are young kids that randomly change direction and no one should be on a bike it’s a large island so grow a set and walk with your bike and don’t be a prat. They will just start taking bikes off people and impounding them or ask a hefty fine to release the bike back after a forced two days storage.
A great suggestion / if this happened I don’t think anyone would cycle on the Pine Walk !
At the 6min 12sec maek i noticed that you managed to capture what appears to be bright flashes in the sky. There didn't appear to be any storm clouds around and it can not be anything to do with your camera as the flashes only effected the blue sky.

But on serious note there are never enough toilet facilities on most beaches if any, and the beaches that do have them most of them are filthy,so I'm surprised that the sea is blue 😊👍

You might want to mention about the over loaded buses too. We stay in Pollença and the bus ( now free to residents) gets filled to capacity before it gets to town so there are often disappointed people up here. Don't rely on the bus to get you to Palma if you're heading to the airport.
I would have thought the building works and tendering services would have been sorted before the season started. The only thing I know though is that you are going to be mallorcas most wanted . Lol.

Isn’t there a sign at the beginning of the pine walk telling cyclists to dismount there should be. My husband is a cyclist and a pedestrian so you know the rules, it only takes one idiot to cause an accident. Thanks Alex. Pedestrians come first.
There is - there are signs but I think they should make them a little more visible

Cyclists slipstreaming at 40kph through the pedestrian zones along the beach front past the children’s playground confirms there are a minority of Numbty’s without a shred of common sense 🙄

Pollensa is plagued by cyclists & has been for the last 25 years. In the winter the professional teams move in. I doubt very much that culture will change as so many Mallorcans are enthusiast's & run the town & profit from the culture. As for the beaches again no surprise it's all gone wrong mana folks 😂
In what sense is it 'plagued'?
it drives a lot of revenue for the island, not just in cycling $$$$'s. Many cyclists return with their families in summer months.
There needs to be very strict laws implemented towards cyclists! They have zero respect for people or and cars !!
