Aside from running the red light, this was a great drive! I have an HW3 Model 3 with FSD v12.5.4.2, and it’s not that great. There’s a lot of phantom braking at intersections and green lights. But this version with Hardware 4 is smooth as butter! I love it! I can't wait for V13! Looking forward to more videos from you
@@CCa-qe3hk It's FSD Supervised, I was able to takeover at any time and could easilly have stopped for the light if I felt it was unsafe. I chose to let it go since the light had just gone red and it's good to see what the car will do on its own. Is it good that it ran the light, no definitely not. However the car did drive great otherwise and I am certain they'll be able to solve the red light issue. I'd rather be transparent about the problems than try and pretend the software is flawless.
@@CCa-qe3hkDo you not understand running a red light is a big deal but the rest of the ride was good. Ie, it didn’t run three red lights, a stop sign and run someone over.
@@Mike-c6f4k You'll understand after driving with FSD for a few hours. It's clearly software that is actively being developed. It does well 99% of the time, you just have to be ready to take over when it occasionally fails. After driving with it for a bit, you can sort of anticipate when its going to struggle. It's never going to randomly throw you into oncoming traffic, but sometimes it'll struggle at intersections or try to cut someone off when changing lanes or go slightly under the speed limit.
@ very valid test. I believe rolls Royce used to balance a coin on its edge on their engine and rev it to show how smooth their engines were. Your coffee test could be the equivalent for FSD.
Glad to see I’m not the only one with issues with FSD. Mine I would rate a D- most of the time. A passing grade but just barely. Sometimes it does well but I’ve also had mine run a red light and really struggle to get out of the left lane until the last second. It’s missed a few turns for me because it just doesn’t get out of the left lane in time.
Thanks for the nice video. It is bad to run a red light. I had a similar experience with 12.5.4.1. On the other hand, for the puddles, I think it might be reasonable to avoid them if they are big enough, because there is no way to know if it is an overflowing open manhole hiding down there.
@@junlingma1809 cheers! Glad you liked the video. Yeah hard to say what the right answer is with puddles, I guess being overly cautious is never a bad thing, though I think if I hadn’t intervened the car would have been on an infinite loop.
I had the same erratic veering while it was making a turn, which headed the vehicle toward the center median. Overall this version is much smoother and confident in so many ways. But with every release there is always some regression. Best the to keep the hands on the wheel until it proves itself. I know that's tough for a youtuber as people will say, how do we know you weren't driving vs fsd.
I've put nearly 30,000km on while using FSD and have never had it almost put me into another vehicle/curb/barrier/etc, that's why I am confident enough to keep my hands off the wheel. It does make mistakes, but it's never actively putting me in danger without any notice.

I haven’t seen anyone else mention this: In 12.5.6.3, the road UI no longer shows blue highlighting in the target lane (not current lane) the car is attempting to change into. Further, it also no longer highlights the closest cars in blue in the target lane it is changing to. These were nice indicators/confirmations of its intentions and awareness. Can anyone else confirm same?
@@billnipp2309 haha good eye, yeah I had picked it up the day before and forgot to grab it from the door when I got home. I saw it while I was editing the video and went out and got it from the car.
That's what I do and work for me. Also if the car is going to slow for my liking I just press the gas pedal to increase speed once I let go the FSD maintain the speed.
It’s not against the law to change lanes in an intersection. If you do it unsafely then you can get a ticket but there’s actually no law. It’s a myth we were all taught.
Oh wow really? I honestly had never looked into it and just always believed that was the law. People have posted a lot very positive comments about 12.5.6.3 and I was eager to give a try. Unfortunately for me it's not been great. First there's its inability to slowdown when getting in a lower speed zone. Then it got confused in a construction area that it handled fine with 12.5.4.1. I had a couple of phantom braking, something that I had not experienced in the last several months. Tesla QA has not done a good job with this version. Too many regressions for me.
Interesting to hear how different the build is for people. I've had nothing but great drives with 6.3, albeit not perfect (red light for example) but overall the majority of issues I had with 12.5.4.x are fixed now, and I love the smoother accelerating.
