You can't just remove the 3D glasses for rides that are *designed* for 3D and expect it to be the same, especially in these tunnel rides like Kong or Supercharged. Minion Mayhem was made completely pointless when they removed the glasses from that one.

It's incredibly boring and breaks down a lot. Bandaid fixes won't make it worth that valuable space. The only thing good about it is the kong animatronic at the end... they should have just made a tribute area for that alone and put in a completely different ride.

This trend doesn't make any sense. The rides were designed to be in 3D. They do their best to be immersive with screens and 3D is a method of doing so. Forbidden Journey was the only one that made sense because the motion is so extreme I understood reducing anything that could induce further nausea. What's next? Gringotts? Spiderman? The desire to ride this stuff drops to zero for when it approaches a mall kiddie ride jerking you about while you stare at a clearly flat screen.

If the screens were updated to OLED and wrapped over the vehicle more, it would actually be pretty great. The scenes in the cave could be OLED or matte painting backdrops and a few layers of scrims to project characters onto. Maybe add a worm animatronic that pops up in the foreground. You'd have the 3D depth back. Of course, I've never seen a ride get an update like that. They'll prob just close this eventually.

Rode this last week and I must say the 2D version was disappointing. When the vehicle is in motion the screens still looked pretty 3d and had some good depth but as soon as the vehicle was stationary the depth disappeared entirely . The part where the bats fly out of the tunnel looked so flat , and when the dinosaurs hit the vehicle with their heads they looked like they were no where near us . Such a shame universal went this route. Do we know if this is permanent ? I had read it was just a test until march 9th but on the universal app it still mentions no 3d for Kong .

  • @slickshewz
