Thanks. The quick disconnect tool is the smaller one at your auto parts store. Went to three different stores no one had a clue about disconnecting the transmission line. Would like to have seen them "wrestle" with he washer reservoir. I struggle to get mine off. One of the most thorough "how to's i have seen. Don't be intimated. you can do it.
Just finished installing my radiator after watching the video. Great job on the instructions. I did not remove the rad and washer res. They move out of the nicely. Took about an hour. Thanks
Thanks this really helped out. been to 4 different auto parts stores and no one had a clue as to the quick disconnect tool needed for bottom hose. Please keep it up, this is invaluable for people who still try to diy.
Thank you very much for producing this video. I watched this in preparation for replacing the radiator on my 2001 Ram 1500 Sport 4X4 with tow package, It has a 5.9L motor. I did not have to remove the coolant reservoir or the wiper fluid reservoir. If you own a nice 10mm ratching box wrench you can easily access/remove/replace the bolts that mount the fan shroud to the radiator even with both reservoirs in place. Also, I got lucky because my truck has a separate transmission cooler, so there were no transmission lines connected to my radiator. Quick and easy repair.
+Russ Silva I also have to replace my radiator, and I have a separate transmission cooler. However, the new radiator I picked up is compatible with transmission line hookups, but I have no use of them. My old radiator didn't have these. I'm curious if your radiator was with or without them? I am nervous not to connect them to anything and have something go wrong...
Great tutorial on how to change this radiator. Worked out exactly as described. The quick release tool size for mine was 3/8". To assist in removing the overflow and windshield washer containers, a long flat screwdriver driven in behind the bottle and shroud was a big help in popping them off.
I had to do the same thing on the washer bottle. Easy once you knew what the back of the bottle looked like. Other than that great video and not having to take the fan shroud completely out of the truck was a big plus.
To be extra clear, it's because the center of the long bottle (between the sliding clips) has a protruding 'nub' that registers it in place on the plastic fan housing with a corresponding hole. The screwdriver/etc deforms the fan housing away enough that you can slide the bottle up and out. You could also technically reach into the housing and press on the nub from the inside, but access is always questionable.
Thanks for the info guys. Even though this didn't look to be a difficult job I always like to see if I can find any videos before I do something myself. Good idea about the bags on the lines. Y'all are very helpful keep up the good work.
Wow. Great video. Everything is crystal clear and easy to follow. The one question I have is: Why is the bottom transmission line just a snap-in type, while the top transmission line is the type that has a nut that has to be tighten? The person operating the video camera really knows how to get in tight shots.
Finally some guys actually showing the correct way to do this. The other guys on YT are using a ratchet some wire cutters,a potato, and a banana. I have no clue what the hell the were doing. Maybe they were working on a chevy,🤔
Everyone always says dispose of the old fluid properly but no one ever says where that can be done at. Auto parts stores will take old oil but not anti-freeze...
Hey Joe, good videos. I have same truck (2001) with same issue, needs new radiator. However, mine has a trans cooler attached to the front of radiator. Trans cooler is leaking too. Can I replace both with a all inclusive radiator like you used? The radiator you replaced must have an internal trans cooler correct? I'd appreciate your advise.
What disconnect tool did you use? Is that a 3/8" or 5/16"? I tried using the plastic 3/8" and it does not want to pop off. I'm looking at a 3/8" x 1/2" Transmission oil cooler line scissor.
Anyone know how to open the drain petcock? I turn it 1/4 turn and nothing happens? I hear you're supposed to pull it. But from what position? Others say it breaks when you pull it.
I tried doing this job on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. After smashing and cutting my fingers, I finally got the dang reservoir bottle off. I then managed to twist and break the top transmission line! I then grabbed a hammer and broke the fan shroud to pieces because I was so upset this wasn't as easy as this video makes it out to be. To make matters worse, I looked around my garage and couldn't find the new radiator. Turns out I forgot to buy it!!

How much fluid do you put in?Are you supposed to fill while motor is on and fill to the top??

the transmission line you removed just above the lower radiator hose... what is it called and do you have a part number for the whole thing? thanks.

Thanks guys
My radiator replaced on my Dodge had male ICT fittings on them not female
Good it helped me to replace mine but my truck still overheats after a leaking on the radiator... any clues???
Will a radiator off a 96 dodge ram fit on a 01 dodge ram
Hopefully: they made the same truck v8 platform from 1994-2002.

What if I don't have the easy disconnecter thingy?
