    Camera work is excellent! Very useful and professional delivery. This job is hard enough without having to worry about the production value, I for one appreciate all the hard work. Thank you.

    Best camera work I've seen on any of the ball joint videos nice work. Takes a lot of mussel, patience, time and ingenuity if you don't own two thousand plus dollars in shop tools...worked out nicely.

    Excellent job! Realistic! These things are very stubborn to remove. I'll be dong the same thing soon. This video is excellent advice. Thank you. I would have replaced that upper control arm too but you can do that later on, not having to disassemble everything one more time.

    You can press the lower ball joint out with the exact press from autozone he has without using a file and if yours is stuck one won’t pop out and you tried everything grab a sawzall you can come in from the front there’s a big wide hole like 2 inches tall by 5 inches wide you have a clear shot with a sawzall to cut the middle of the lower ball joint in half so the knuckle drops with the lower portion of the ball joint in it and the top stays in the lower control arm then use the press to press both half’s out very easily

    Wonderful video that will help when I do this but why didn't you replace the upper ball joints while you were already in there?? Not only that but replace the wheel bearings at that time too

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  4 месяца назад +1

      I did not have the parts for the upper at the time , and decided I would use the opportunity to film another step by step. The wheel bearings had actually been replaced a few years back. I appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching.

    You should be hitting the steering knuckle not the ball joint.

    • @josephdossantos9274
      @josephdossantos9274 6 месяцев назад +1

      The Dodge Service Shop Manual states to never hit the Knuckle to remove the ball joints.
      Even then mechanics developed their own way, it doesn’t make it right.

    That Upper Arm should be replaced. The ball joint is completely destroyed.
    Why do that kind of work and not replace the Upper Arm.
    Great video footage.

      @@s33therfan Your welcome. I only had access to a common ball joint press kit. And after a few attempts with the large cup it kept flying off which was sketchy while trying to remove. I filed the 4 tabs and wire brushed away the debris and added some pb blaster. Then I started to hit the top of the ball joint with a jack stand under the control arm with a short handle sledge. Once it started moving I added a short impact socket and in 4 wacks it was out. Those things are a tight fit. I can see why many of these types of trucks are still going strong as they are tuffly built.

    Do you feel the truck had soft suspension and bottomed out fairly easy? Have a factory, rough ride? I ask because I bought a 2003 Laramie which was a California truck with original shocks. Only rode smooth on smooth roads. Replaced original suspension with koni str.t, and it still rides rough. Wondering if my next move is a variable front coil and rear spring assist. Thanks.

      Now that you mention it yes . After replacing the front struts it seemed to be not as noticeable. Thanks for the feedback.

    For some comments about hitting the steering knuckle to remove the ball joints, the Dodge Service Shop Manual states to Avoid Hitting the knuckle.
    That several mechanics developed their own way to remove the ball joints, it doesn’t make it right.
    Use the right tools for the right job.

    Your not supposed to hit the ball joint to take it out your supposed to tap the side of the knuckle next to the ball joint

  • @WayneStephens-z6d

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Год назад +2

      I did add a tiny amount , I am always afraid to add too much because risk of messing up the rubber boot. Most will come with some grease. Thank you for the feedback.

    • @327JohnnySS
      @327JohnnySS Год назад

      Gus always add a little. If you have your oil changed at a shop always mention that you have had the ball joint and tie rod ends replaced with ones with serviceable grease/zerk fittings.
