+Fester Hetch I have the same problems too. i wont hurt to invest in a few sound proofing cardbox, for your room. It may not work out as well as planned, but it does reduce the noise coming from ones room.
Its all about what you're recording on, ex. a phone? It's not meant for vocal recording... or a normal microphone. Look into something such as a condensing microphone, and one with amp
It's because when you talk the sound of your voice that YOU hear is different from what other people hear. :) spScince you are so used to how you sound to yourself when you hear a recording of yourself your like ".... WHAT AM I?" XD
+Drixyand Lucky Might also be because your audio recording source is bad, and you are recording in a room where echo of room makes your vocal sound washed out and stuff. There are a lot of reasons why it sounds bad recording yourself. A lot of poeple do doubletakes on top of eachother or a lot of other crazy cool things. Have great mics help also, being in a room where it doesnt wash vocal is good also :)
Well, I guess I might need a vocal coach now. Thanks! Now I have to go ask my very angry mother. Just leave some flowers on my grave...I like flowers...
do not quit yet.... just try to exercise daily, and don't sing at all, for about one whole week..then warm up as regular after the week and try again...let me know if your voice improved at all.
The thing is in original performance the song is tuned down on 4 half-tones. And it wouldn't be performed like that by author if he sang like in original, hitting his transition notes. The result would be disappointing. Tenors stuff i suppose. And here goes the question of all the times: should tenors perform a song tunning it up? I noticed a lot of times when it comes to sing transition notes i feel bad for my larynx, but its okay to sing above these notes like he does.
on Nov 6 2013 from Oregon Eugene you made my night I found you on the you tube I really have a hard time doing things lot music, and singing. When I saw your video (WOW!) I can't thank you enough. You inspired me to try try again. Thank you soooooo much. I will practice a lot until I get it right, with your help of course. my paws are UP! or should i say singing it UP! YA
You need to make more videos with him! I would definitely watch more of your channel and like more videos. He is amazing teacher and has a voice to prove it.
wow i can see ur a really good singer. but me... i'm so terrible, i play guitar and i want to be a good singer too! but darn..people sad i'm bad at singing... any other tips i can practice day by day???
..There's not much problem with controlling my voice. The problem is that I have a really low voice and I just sound like.. a man.. ._. Is there any way to get a higher voice and to just change your voice completly?
@Kitten I'm not really sure if you'd be able to change the actual sound of your voice, but if you practice singing higher notes you will be able to increase your range.
Raise your larynx. A female's lowest range is an alto and guys that are tenors singing high notes are female altos singing low notes. This makes you believe that you have a "low" voice but in reality, you are not making use of what a true alto can be. Check out Feliecia Ricci since she is an amazing coach for females. This is good but it would lead to more confusion if you learn from a male online if you are a beginning singer.
It's hard to assume you're own voice, but chance park is right, "take adventage of your low voice" you have to deal with it, and not trying to get an other voice you can't.
Been there! We've developed a whole program to address this issue, and also to teach you exercises that will develop a lot of other relevant singing skills. Check out singingsuccess.com to learn more about it. -Benny
Consonants like "M" are actually a very good way to help you feel the sensation of forward placement of your voice. But mix it up constantly--especially with consonant/vowel combinations over which you may stumble in repertoire. And forget about volume. Start with a lightness in your voice, especially as you move up the scale. Breath support is key!
this is exactly what I've been looking for. and this dude can actually sing. I've realized that the way your throat has to be clear when you're singing...is almost exactly the same as when u want to scream. not like corey taylor...but the way the A Day To Remember singer does it. have your airway completely clear so nothing opens or closes when u go to make that sound. its just smooth
I don't think this make you "sound" better or even sing that much better. It appears to help with the passagio but doesn't really have that much use for actually getting better tone which I think is what people are after here. Also this is a grey area because sounding good when singing is also a matter of opinion or taste. I respect what he's saying but I don't believe it as a singer myself. I'm open to criticism
Jesse, you are a super star to me. You are so darned aware. Wish I had about 5 friends like you. Thanks for your contribution to the music world. You are so gifted and a GREAT communicator. Carpe diem.
Don't know about that "ng" exercise, but this vid did point out that regardless what methods being used the tone and volume should be steady and consistent up & down the scales. I nvr thought about that, I just blazed through exercises & now realized that I have breaks & volume dips everywhere!
that song? you raise me up? all the choirs in my school sang that at the end of my sophomore year. we dedicated it to a classmate whose mom had passed away. everyone was crying while singing because of that plus it was our choir teacher, ms. meiningers last year with us before she left to teach abroad.
this video is very funny, from beginning to the end, i keep laughing, and how he react to those people who said " i can't sing , but but but " hahaha nice exercise Jesse
I see, you know all about singing! And you great singer too!!! All my stars for you and your examples here.! Very impressive!! And i think you best vocal coach i have ever meet!!
How wonderful! If you would like to book a 15 minute complimentary session with one of our coaches, they can help you! Feel free to contact us: email: support@singingsuccess.com or call 615.866.1099
I think the point of excersises is to train your voice and work it out so you can sing a lot smoother and with more control. It's like guitar. You can't play fast and well unless you learn proper technique and work your fingers out. The pinky finger is a prime example. Most people have trouble using their pinky. You have to work it out.
Thanks so much Maris! If you would like to book a 15 minute complimentary session with one of our coaches, they can help you! Feel free to contact us: email: support@singingsuccess.com or call 615.866.1099
Exactly. How you practice is how you perform. Once you master the vocal exercises you are doing, you should be able to use the exact same coordinations and incorporate that into your singing. Connecting all of your chest and head voice to make it all sound like chest & proper breathing is the key to successful singing.
Sure. It is definitely individual and many people have success with this kind of approach. I guess my original post was overly critical. The one thing I would encourage students to do though is to move on sooner rather than later if something isn't helping.
I have been playing guitar, drums and bass for 7 years now so I know that its gonna take a lot of time and dedication to learn how to sing but god damn will it be worth it. Thank you for the videos! :)
Each singer's different. If you've found something that works for you, that's cool. But these exercises do exist for a reason, and they're what works for most people.
i started getting into singing, because i realized, singing is just like a musical instrument. I never used to be able to sing, because i never tried, but now i've been actually applying musical theory to singing, and well, it's just sort of a "no shit?" moment for me.
question: how do you sing through your nose ? have you tried doing breathing exercises where you don't use your nose but only your mouth. I think I had that problem until I got a vocal coach you should get one if you don't.
i m confused about my voice. i put a video on line of me playing guitar and singing my original song and one person said i rock and another person said i was really bad. i dont know who to believe. maybe i should start using this guys tips. he soulds legit.
What he is saying is that almost everyone with singing issues isn't doing this right YET! That is what brett mannings vocal lessons do, they say "This is wrong right now, but we are about to fix it". Everyone has the potential, in the same way everyone could run a marathon if they trained.
He looks like an emo Peter Parker
True
Like in the third Spider-Man
thats what i was thinking.
😮
I can't sing when my family's around they give me no space at all
Is this because you're nervous to sing around them, or because they don't want to hear it :)
same here. its probably the fear of having to watch them suicide from the singing. i know im scared :O
+Fester Hetch I have the same problems too. i wont hurt to invest in a few sound proofing cardbox, for your room. It may not work out as well as planned, but it does reduce the noise coming from ones room.
oh no.
Same I've been waiting for this comment
why is it that a lot of people who come up to me in the streets and say I'm good, but when I record myself I sound weird?
Tone deafness. And to make sure you aren't tone impaired, take a tone deafness test.
Weird is good sometimes... Just saying...
Its all about what you're recording on, ex. a phone? It's not meant for vocal recording... or a normal microphone. Look into something such as a condensing microphone, and one with amp
I can do these exercises perfectly, but whenever i record myself singing i think i suck. Most people say im good, but i really dont think i am.

Totally same
Well, I guess I might need a vocal coach now. Thanks! Now I have to go ask my very angry mother. Just leave some flowers on my grave...I like flowers...
Nice knowing ya :)
1:18 Open the window and a breeze rolls in and I jizz in my pants.
Oh my, that was hilarious!
I can hit the notes when I hum, but when I actually sing words it sounds weird and I can't do that vibrato thing
kurt cobain EXACTLY OH MY GOSH finally someone with the same problem... have you found any solutions yet? :D by the way yes, super late responce lol
You may want a coach to listen and guide you. You can book a lesson or take advantage of our free 15 minute consult.
'You raise me up'..Oh mann...Fantastic mate..~ Keep inspiring
i love that song xD
Am I the only person on earth who doesn't know how to sing using a piano?
waterblonk You are not alone
+waterblonk DEFENETLY NOT I don't
+waterblonk Im trying to teach myself piano, but it's a failure
+waterblonk Majorscale is the keyword
I've never understood why ppl can't do that. A friend of mine can't match the note when I play it on piano but can when I sing it
I like this guy's way of teaching. His "in your face" you can't sing attitude is what makes me really want to learn and improve.
I can do the exercises and what he showed in the video perfectly, but when I record myself I still suck ass xd
do not quit yet.... just try to exercise daily, and don't sing at all, for about one whole week..then warm up as regular after the week and try again...let me know if your voice improved at all.
"You raise me up so high I could stand on mountains"
Your voice is wonderful! Thanks for the tips!
It's just tough teaching. People are just too sensitive. Thanks for the tips
This is so beautiful. You are a great singer!
I came here to sound better for a paramore song XD
literally same
Same
ignorance? crush crush crush? brick boring by brick?

..There's not much problem with controlling my voice. The problem is that I have a really low voice and I just sound like.. a man.. ._. Is there any way to get a higher voice and to just change your voice completly?
Just sing metal x)

I've hit the replay button a hundred times just to hear him sing you raise me up;) AMAZING;)
Um I can do both, but I still think I sound like shit.

Oh no... I cant do the warm up...
+Hasset Anteneh
Yeah you can, it's just literally practice. Anyone can sing with enough practice as long as you don't have a throat disability.
he has such a gifted voice.. love it so much !!
poor dude he misses his mom maybe that's why he is singing ma ma ma ma 😞
hahaha

He has such a nice voice. He almost put me in a trance.
OMG YOUR VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
holy crap! when i heard his voice... i fell in love!
I'm saving this! Thank you for isolating those two important points/ that you can't sing without. Oh yes it is a hard song to sing...with belle canto.
You have a great melodious voice. Thanks a lot for your valuable tips.
I was told to sing from the top of my head. I had an opera instructor. The "ng" exercise should help and doing your scales.
I think the point of excersises is to train your voice and work it out so you can sing a lot smoother and with more control. It's like guitar. You can't play fast and well unless you learn proper technique and work your fingers out. The pinky finger is a prime example. Most people have trouble using their pinky. You have to work it out.
Thank you Jesse. You really make a difference with your explanations.
Because you can hear your own voice. Like it's clear to you when using a microphone so that's why it sounds better.
Omg I need you as my vocal coach!
Great job Jesse. This is a major problem for me. I have the singing success bundle, and I know the exercises I need to spend more time on.
The way he speaks is so pleasant to listen to lol

basically you just saying i cant sing rather than helping, thanks man
What exactly are you doing in the first exercise? Are you singing completely and only through the nose?
Sure. It is definitely individual and many people have success with this kind of approach. I guess my original post was overly critical. The one thing I would encourage students to do though is to move on sooner rather than later if something isn't helping.
Your voice is absolutely amazing
Omg I'm in love with his voice
Thanks this was helpful. I agree i do have trouble with keeping it smooth from words to notes. I never really noticed it before.
I have been playing guitar, drums and bass for 7 years now so I know that its gonna take a lot of time and dedication to learn how to sing but god damn will it be worth it. Thank you for the videos! :)

This helped a lot I'm trying to learn how to sing and this really helped.
I love this guy. Very informative.
You kind of look like Dominik from sala samobójców (my favorite movie)... It's a complement btw!! And the video actually helped a TON
i m confused about my voice. i put a video on line of me playing guitar and singing my original song and one person said i rock and another person said i was really bad. i dont know who to believe. maybe i should start using this guys tips. he soulds legit.
