@@berika6 not necessarily. Funny to see your video on a moment when I'm drawing and painting every single day, despite being an almost 40yo factory worker in Japan (which allowed me to buy a lot of the colored pencils and papers I would only dream in Brazil). Kirsty, It is a goal for anyone creating art to leave their 'day job' and work with art full time. You have moved into doing art as a full time job - that is great. You achieved that goal. Now do you ever feel that working with your art as a full time obligation sometimes get in the way of your personal creative time. Sometimes we can get what we wish for and then burn out trying to keep up the expected pace. All this is great information on starting and I know all will appreciate what you say.

This is the best and most real video I’ve seen on here. I’m 50 and found out by accident that I could draw in February and suddenly, I know this is what I want to do. Getting started is frightening and I’m stuck (am I too old? Will I succeed? Etc) but your video is so much more helpful than any other I’ve watched and has given me a bit more confidence to consider how to get going with this. Thank you.
I feel that now there are more polished and established artists on RUclips than there was 5-10 years ago, but I still think everyone has a slightly different artist voice so you can still find your place here.
I love everything you said. I always wanted to improve my drawing and eventually make this my full time career. I was a substitute teacher for about five months, it was a very demanding job, of course I was grateful because it paid my bills and supported my family but somehow I felt empty. I did not have the time to draw, I felt I lost that huge part of my self for five months without using my art materials and creating an artwork. Thank you for this video, it gave me ideas. Hugs and kisses from the Philippines 🇵🇭 ♥️
I’ve been talking to my husband about wanting to start something on the side (from my current career) with my art skills. Then you upload this!! 💜 Thank you so much for the hard work you put into your videos. You deserve all the success that comes your way!!! 😘

Thank you for your video. I remember telling to my mom that I wanted to be an Artist going up, but she was strongly against it. After studied fashion design, working in that industry, losing my job, I came to the point that drawing is what truly makes me happy. THANK YOU FOR THIS! I have been so inconsistent in posting videos because I feel like they just arent good enough to be seen. Even when I am excited about a project, the thought of posting a video of it gives me anxiety because I know I can do better if I just keep practicing. But then that anxiety keeps me from posting/practicing! I'm new to the digital art scene and didnt even know i could post my traditional art by taking videos with my phone! This video gave me so much motivation, thank you again.
Good luck getting word of your art out to the world without social media. RUclips and Instagram are the easiest and best ways to start a career in art. Without social media, how will you sell and showcase your art? Through galleries and word of mouth? Haha! Good luck with that

This is a great video. It makes me think more about who my audience is. Beautiful piece!
@N S That's not even remotely related to what I said. Of course there are, both on youtube and without youtube. All I said was this video talks pretty much only about how to earn money as a youtuber, not about "starting a career in art" in general. It's a pretty narrow view of a massive industry.
@N S this might not be the video for you then. As I said, this talks about youtube only. There are many more ways to earn money with art then becoming a youtuber. Since I know literally nothing about your art I can't really give you advice. Heck, maybe being a youtuber is the thing for you. But it's certainly not the only art career and it's not even really particularly about art. It's almost more about being an entertainer than it is about the quality of your art. Just gotta look at some of the most popular ones, quite a few of them aren't actually good. Just good entertainers.
@N S well if you're confident your art is good then that's a good start. But it definitely sounds like a youtuber career isn't something for you. A lot of what you mentioned you can learn by simply googling a bit. I don't know what kind of art you produce, the different markets for e.g. watercolour landscape paintings vs. Digital environment concept art are obviously completely different. Maybe start by putting some of your art on society6 or something similar? Generally I'd probably put art careers into 3 broad categories, although there's probably more. You can produce art and then sell it, e.g. selling original oil paintings, you can produce art as a service, e.g. commissions or working in game design or illustration etc. basically any freelance or contract art job, or you can profit off of the process of making art, e.g. youtube, tutorials, online courses etc. Generally having a portfolio is a good idea though, so maybe set one up on one of the free websites.
This video makes me feel so much better at what I'm doing and where I'm at right now. My first videos are pretty rough, and I haven't done a lot since the last one because the files are difficult to utilize and my set-up was absolute trash (to me.) I'm gonna keep going.
I think I'll just keep watching this until I have the courage to post my first video! I've been following your journey for a few years now (on my personal account) and you are such an amazing source of knowledge.
@@worldoflk8839 thanks! I did make a few videos and then got a full time job teaching art on a temp contract! Hopefully I'll have time to make more in the future

Hey Kirsty! Wish you all the best from my quarantined house in Italy! ! You are so right! I started on January 1 and it was so strange and I was prepared that that was going to be my first video. I learned soooooo much! I am so grateful to have started! I just want to become an illustrator, and I think this is the best way! I admire you so much! Keep up the great work!
Love business topic videos like this ! I think i struggle a bit with figuring out my style as I used to create mainly just fan art and a lot of horror character/movie character related stuff. Now I’m trying to branch out a bit because I want to do more tutorials on RUclips, and I know not everyone is interested in movie characters or especially horror.. but I feel like maybe I can incorporate some of those subjects into my tutorials as long as I diversify. I would like to know where I can get a tripod where I can put my camera directly above my drawing like at 6:32. Currently I have a tripod with a ring light where you can sort of do that, but I have to have the tripod standing IN FRONT OF ME when I'm drawing so I can't even see the paper properly. It's very inconvenient and discourages me from being consistent only because I don't have a proper set up. And that tripod have very broad legs so I still use that unattractive shifting daylight for the most part. I live very small also so I can't have a studio atm where everything is set up at all times
Indeed a motivational vlog for beginners like me. Since I was a child drawing and painting already my passion and now I made it as my hobby beside working as a nurse. I've just started my art channel last June 2019. I hope it goes well as time goes by. Thank you for this video. More power! God bless.
The painting demonstration was beautiful but the information given was somewhat click baity or vague at best. I would have personally got rid of “0 to 100k/year” from the title and just have this as a motivational video.
That's why when trying to learn from people you need to pay just as much attention to their actions and what is left unsaid as to what they explicitely say. Click bait works, that's why you see more and more of it every year. At this point if you're not using it you're just shooting yourself in the foot.
@@hannibalfloyd You*re also shooting your potential audience in the foot as loads of people have a very low tolerance for that bs and will unfollow quickly.
@@nalcarya Fair point but you're still talking about a minority, the extra growth you'll get more than makes up for the few people that would mind enough and that might not even have known about the channel in the first place if it weren't for the clickbait. Clickbait sucks but it's there to stay, it's up to us to learn to live with that fact and understand how it works so we're not entirely at its mercy, whilst accepting the harsh reality that if someone has a message that is worthy of your attention they have to compete with others that don't but do know how to get your attention.
@@hannibalfloyd I think you're underestimating the effects. If you want a an audience that tends to be more gullible aka people who don't mind click bait, sure go for it. If you want a mature audience that's interested in critical thinking you better don't. Also there's clickbait as in creating a hype title and there's straight up lying about the content of the video. For this video it's kinda a middleground between the two, it's just a bit more hype than what the video actually delivers.
@@nalcarya Clickbait is nothing more than the art and science of making a title irresistible by giving away just enough while witholding the essential, thereby creating a gap in knowledge that the reader has to fill to put their mind at ease. And if your audience really is "mature" as you say, then the only thing that matters to them is the quality of your content, not whether they got there through clickbait or other means. That's just my two cents on the matter anyways.
Thank you Kirsty you really are inspiring and thank you for sharing all you know for making Art an income source, $100 K is beyond more than I need to provide for my family so making art full time is getting so achievable I just need to work harder at it

This video gave me so much motivation, thank you again.
encouraging and authentic perspective on starting youtube!
Thanks Kirsty for the information. It's really informative for the artist who are starting out.
I love this! I just showed this to my students and they love it!
Thanks Kristy for your videos. I agree with you that no need to ask the question on how to start, just need to start. Thanks a lot.
What made you a success was your fantastic skill as an artist.
I thought this was how to start an art career not a RUclips channel.
The title should have been worded better.
Shreyas Misra true but she could have been more specific
Good luck getting word of your art out to the world without social media. RUclips and Instagram are the easiest and best ways to start a career in art. Without social media, how will you sell and showcase your art? Through galleries and word of mouth? Haha! Good luck with that
👍
Right!
Thank you a lot for sharing your experience! It's like having someone taking your hand and showing you how everything works. It makes it much easier for us beginners who want to get started.
you have such a motivational speaker as well with your brilliant art work . I'll definitely start , as you said "get started" so I'll. much love
The painting is amazing! So much depth!! Great advice too!
Wise words! Just start. It applies to everything 💜
Beautiful!!! Anyone have to watch this twice?...once because they got sucked into the painting and a second time because you got so sucked into the painting the first time you watched it that you weren’t really following what she was saying, but still wanted to get the advice?! 😍
I love your use of both the watercolor and pencils, this looks so lovely! And thank you so much for all the advice for creating a business. This is exactly what I’ve needed. ❤️
Ahhh I love this, Kirsty, thank you so much for posting this. I've been so inspired by all of your videos to start my own RUclips journey and improve my art. I'm super excited. ♥ This was really helpful.
OpalArt that’s great to hear! Good luck with our channel 🥰
@@KirstyPartridgeArt Thank you! :) Your channel has been so great for me
Thnx for this video. I am trying to turn my art more into a business as I just want to do what I love and share it with others. I do my best with what I currently have and the competition is pretty crazy but I need to breathe and just do what I love and be as realistic as I can be. And your work is really beautiful by the way!
This is a great video. It makes me think more about who my audience is. Beautiful piece!
This video should really be titled "How to become an art youtuber"
My first videos are pretty rough, and I haven't done a lot since the last one because the files are difficult to utilize and my set-up was absolute trash (to me.)
I'm gonna keep going.
Thank you very much for these words. The most important thing is just start, no matter what you have!
I think I'll just keep watching this until I have the courage to post my first video! I've been following your journey for a few years now (on my personal account) and you are such an amazing source of knowledge.
Good luck. I promise to check ur video if u do post
@@worldoflk8839 thanks! I did make a few videos and then got a full time job teaching art on a temp contract! Hopefully I'll have time to make more in the future
@@ArtbyAllisonDakin thats insanely amazing! 😍 great job!!
am so thankful for what the internet is doing for creative people
Great tips and reality check for starting a channel and art career. Thanks for sharing the the time capsule.
Hey Kirsty! Wish you all the best from my quarantined house in Italy! ! You are so right! I started on January 1 and it was so strange and I was prepared that that was going to be my first video. If this could help your viewers, I started with 0 experience, 0 painting skills at 40! Just accept this every video I make is going to be worse then the next one. It is all about the process!
Anyway thank you for always being an inspirational to many artists who are looking to develop a business from their skill !
U r most realistic and practical person on u tube rite now💓💓
Great video and wonderful tips. And of course, a BEAUTIFUL painting! Well done Kirsty and congratulations on your success. ♥
Thank you so much for your tips. They inspired me to continue my youtube channel. Since I haven’t posted in a while. Your one also one of my favorite artist on youtube.
Would be cool to see you go through your old artworks.
Much love to you 💜
This is one of the most positive video for someone who is just starting ♥️♥️
This video is very inspiring. Thank you so much Kirsty
Thank you Kirsty for that information on starting a career.
Thank you so much for all that you do!! You are the first art channel that I subscribed to..I was first attracted to your art, I subscribed when I heard your accent, and I stayed for your knowledge and wisdom in business. I just love it all!! ❤️
You always seem to post a video on exactly what I've been contemplating. I've been thinking about how to get started in this for a few weeks now and looking into all kinds of different strategies and methods, this video helped alot
Thank tho so much for this vid !!! Still trying to expand my art and build a full time career from it.
Good Tips and I even agree with Most! Now really a program for success is just keep going and never let anyone stop you! Wonderful video and of course Thanks Kirsty!
Thank for this video! It's extremely encouraging, and I love how you really just want to encourage people to stretch out and share. You are the bomb!
I’ve finally started my own channel and am working hard to make it a success. I will definitely take your advice. Thank you!
I'm with you Soraya!!!
Thanks for the tips! Your art is mesmerizing 😍 I couldn’t stop looking at her eyes
I hope one day I can do this full time! RUclips has been my outlet! Makes me drive to become better and better each day!
This was definitely one of the most concise and well covered starting out how-to's I've ever seen. Well done. I've finally decided to start myself, hope to eventually reach a level of skill good enough to entertain a wide audience. Thank you for all your advice!
👍
Thank you! I can't wait to hear the other videos!!
I had a few online classes at an existing channel. I had two classes and was planning to make more, then life happened. I want to start making online tutorials again. Thanks for the great information.

Jokes aside, great vid and advice :)

I truly enjoyed this post and I look forward to the next part. Thank you
This have me a boost in confidence. Back to my sketchbook!
Thank you for your tips. They are great and give so much informations ❤️ about you and your channel. I will start 2020 and don't give up. Thank you. Have a nice weekend
Kirsty you are the best ! Just love you and your art ! You’re so helpful and talented !
I love your channel. I strive to be like you! Cant wait to see you hit a million!! 🤗🤗
First time viewer. What a wonderfully articulated video.
More power! God bless.
This is great advice, this is valuable information. Really appreciate you sharing your journey 🙏🙂
Starting an art career rule #1: make good art. Bad art will not sell no matter how hard you hustle it.
"If you're average, you're already better than half the people in the world"
Thats a realy motivational sentence, thx
Megmutatnád az első videót, amit feltettél a RUclips-ra? Igazi művész vagy! Gratulálok! (hungarian)
You're never rambling. Every word you say is gold. Especially your accent 🙃

@@jandrawingacademy3622 thank you
The painting demonstration was beautiful but the information given was somewhat click baity or vague at best.
You always post what I need. Thank you. 💙
Army💜
This video is very encouraging, thank you! I started my art channel in January and this kind of content is very helpful.
Social media showcase your art so once people swipe past it, it never gets seen again. So sad.
Great video and beautiful work!
Thank you Kristy!
That picture though... 😍😍😍. I wish I could paint like that!
I’d love to hear how you got into art and developed it over the years. Do you have any videos about your journey with your amazing art skills??? ❤❤❤❤
Thank you Kirsty you really are inspiring and thank you for sharing all you know for making Art an income source, $100 K is beyond more than I need to provide for my family so making art full time is getting so achievable I just need to work harder at it
Thank you , Kirsty. Excellent video.
Thank you for the insights! Very inspiring! Gears are turning...
Thank you for this!! I feel inspired to get started. Thank you. Thank you! Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Your art is always beautiful but more than that your content is even more inspiring ❤
What a lovely video. You are such an inspiration... I was challenging myself to keep doing some works.. Being persistent... Video timing is great. Love u...
Very supportive look forward to next you tube video.
Problem is just that I don't see any sense in creating educational videos, because you and many others are already doing it with greater skill ^^ I don't see why people would watch mine then.
This is SO inspiring!! Thank you!!!
Thank you, you have inspired me to start and not be afraid 🥰
REALLY enjoyed your video! Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you for giving us hope to start art career.💯
