  • St. Petersburg is one of the few cities with a unique program to get rid of the eyesores and turn vacant lots and condemned homes into single-family units for families that need them.

I live in N.C. and every time I see an abandoned, dilapidated house; it makes me feel sad. I think of how a family could live in that house. I think if I were a millionaire, I'd buy and fix up those homes.

People need to be able to get a job in order to get a mortgage. Houses shouldn't just be given to individuals

i volunteered one summer building a humanity house & i can set the record straight. they do NOT give away houses. you have to be EMPLOYED to qualify getting on their list of applicants. they DO get a NO down payment, NO interest mortgage, but it is a mortgage & the buyer pays for it at whats considered the fair market value at the time. its a helping hands up, not a giveaway.

I really hope to see more affordable housing.
But also, some of the shots in this segment are way more high quality than what I’m used to seeing on the news. Shallow depth of field, use of ND filters, super smooth lookin. Somebody was getting busy with an iPhone 13 with Cinematic mode huh?

A lot of those abandoned houses are still bank owned.

I've lived my entire life here, there's only a hand full of "abandoned" or "dilapidated" homes in this entire county. This city has been going through extreme gentrification and I can assure you that the "affordable housing" means white, first time home buyers.

The area south of Central may have been gentrified. No one wants to admit or talk about that. The values of St Pete have changed, and I'm not talking about property values.

@@ann-christinkristiansson8948 when shtf in this country, the "less privilaged" will be the first to go.
Who do you think is gonna feel it the most? Shelves are running empty, and they are telling us to prepare for food shortages. And your worried about taking houses from one group of people, and giving them to another.
Based on what? Skin color? Wealth?
Crash the system because you are broke? Maybe you are broke because of "who you are" and it's not the systems fault. To many folks in this country who want to stay in the stone age and play in the dirt. Biden is going to get them all killed with his food deserts and race war.

I am homeless at 70 years old living under a tarp outside of St Petersburg in Tampa. I'm an engineer I have a very small retirement. I could build any kind of home I could build any kind of seawalls I have the experience to rebuild these homes cheaply. But still I am homeless there's no programs to help those who have small social security. To live in St Pete has become the most evilest inhuman City in this area. You have the most corrupted Police department you have largo you have Pinellas Park. This is the greatest in human inhuman cities in this part of the state. Clearwater Beach has become totally unlivable for anyone in America. Only a fool and a tourist. This is a bad area for anyone. Sad to see I've been here for at least 60 years and seen this place go totally the hell because of our evil hateful politicians in St Petersburg and they're Representatives. Fox St Petersburg. Is the doorway to hell and death. Those who live here know it

I saw it in the local news, since I live here. The area it's in is not a safe area, either. The house was nothing to look at, either. I don't get that price, because at the same time that house was on the market, I sold my rental, which was a two bedroom/1 bath with an in-law one bedroom/bath/sink with open ceiling living room in back, refurbished, for $375,000, and in the Kenwood area, an expensive area of older homes. I didn't think that house had a chance of selling, but it did. Can't imagine who got it.

Well it's about damn time that somebody wakes up and does something. I get it, there are lots of jobs out there and some people don't want to work, but let's face it a lot do, but how can people in the service industry afford to live here anymore? With rent almost doubling what it used to be, they either have to move out (but to where?), move in with family members, rent with two to four other people or become homeless. Even Disney World has had to build affordable housing in Orlando for the people that work for them because they can't afford to live there either, gaw!!

Every state and city has some vacancy and there are alot of condemned lots and properties just wilting away boarded up. I hope you see some changes within this country. It makes me very sad to see. It's not only women with kids that need help it's people altogether that need help. I don't have children but could use affordable housing. Neither am I married where their is 2 incomes it's just me. Paycheck to paycheck and it is no fun trying to keep up with overflowing past due bills all the time. Prayers for this Country. 🙏

I decided to move out of St. Pete bc I couldn't afford an increase in rent on a fixed budget. Out of the country, I save at least $700/ mo on rent, electricity, cable, internet, car insurance and phone bill.

    • @yellowbird5411
      @yellowbird5411 2 года назад

Home shouldn't just be "given" to anyone, when the rest of us have worked our entire lives to get a home. Charity is great, but people have some kind of income, and they should pay for their mortgage the same as anyone else. Lower mortgage/rent payments is what is needed, and if the market crashes, that's what we will see.
