    Good stuff Damo! Road etiquette is so important to a successful run. Quality food also leads to a less rancid environment. Nothing worse than sitting inches away from someone processing last nights chilidogs while trying to hold down today’s onion dip 🙈

    Lol, that was amazing. Ever gone straight from surfing in winter where someone has pissed in their wetsuit, into the car, played a gig, gone out, got pissed and then all slept in the same room? Minging.

    Hi Damian! Do you have any tips for artists who are singer-songwriters but have a band who play their music? Tips on how to keep them motivated, allow them to put in their own creative input without disrupting your vision as an artist, etc? That would be so helpful!!

    • @DamianKeyes
      @DamianKeyes  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Lisey,
      This is a great question and something I would like to make a video on (thanks for that) How to keep your band motivated.
      I've never been a singer songwriter but I can come at it from the other angle of being the hired gun (paid or unpaid) and I know what I look for in projects to keep me motivated. Also from being around other musicians in a similar position.
      I would say the number one word I would use is momentum as all musicians are desperate to be on a winning side and will be looking to projects they are in to take them there. So when the artist is being proactive and getting gigs, new songs and opportunities its exciting.
      Also fun is very important for musicians and while it's important that everyone is professional and doing their job properly it's important to enjoy the project and have an all in it together mentality instead of feeling like you are replaceable at any minute.
      Lastly for now, feeling like a valued member of the team is important so looking after musicians with good feedback and thank you's help. If there is no money in the project and the musicians are doing it because they believe in the artist and that it's going somewhere then the odd buying a round of drinks or snacks make people feel wanted and loved.
      How does this sound so far?
      Damo

    These are some great tips Damian! 🙏 I never thought about avoiding hot topics. That's true, people have differing opinions. These types of things could lead to heated arguments

      Thanks Paulo,
      I can remember so many times where we accidentally broke that rule and you could see what was coming. It's so frustrating when stress and arguments spill over into the live show. Luckily for us (and probably many bands) as soon as you jump on stage it made us all happy and usually took away any bad feelings of the day 🙂

    Hey this is not really related but I was wondering if you have ever done a video about 'Band Bio's / Band Descriptions'? Are they important? How we go about writing one? I find most bands have nothing written at all or they have an over inflated mess of phatic and over the top descriptions that make you cringe. (e.g. Bob's Blazing hot solo's will melt you face off while Mike's good looks and pitch perfect singing will hypnotize the audience!) How do you write something that's noticeable, factual and NOT ridiculous!

    Damian, do you have a video on the legal options to start a band or hire musicians to backup a solo artist?
    BTW, tried sending you a private message on Twitter but your account is not accessible? Thank you in advance for your reply?

    I don’t in anyway want to sound disrespectful, nor hurtful. However, in my part of America this just doesn’t apply anymore. Live music is now a thing of the past. The days of traveling and playing music are over. Even large name Bands of the past are at best playing small venues, such as Casinos. Making a living playing music is over. We had a thriving music scene not long ago. It’s over. I’m not an angry, resentful musician. I’m just being truthful. People don’t go out to see music anymore. There’s more players than people in the audience. The D.U.I. Laws seemed to be the start of the end. I see young people in your audience. The truth is they should keep playing. But, keep reality in mind. Get a trade, an education in something that you love to do as a living. Rap and hip hop are what’s happening now. All the labels are signing artists that don’t play instruments. I’m very sorry to have to say this. However, it’s the truth. I think all should realize this. Your speaking of your time and experience. I understand this. That time is over where I’m living. No one is making a living playing music. We all must deal with this reality. Please understand I’m not trying to be hurtful. The situation might be different in other parts of the world? But I have, and did have a career in music. Others I played with or knew did also. I only know one who’s still making a living as a studio musician. I’m sorry to have to say this. I wish the situation was different. Please feel free to delete my comment. I’m only trying to be truthful as I previously said. Thanks
