I'm in tears because I'm ignorant of all this info. 😞
Watching this years after it was posted, your style has changed a LOT. Its cool to see the change looking back!
When I network, I talk to the important person like a human being and have a casual conversation with them. I also offer them something to help them before ever asking for anything of myself. A lot of times, we connect and I don't have to ask anything of them in order for us to benefit from each other.
Hi Damian, from the few videos I've seen so far I feel your key message is to take responsibility for your own action or lack of action. If you want to improve than it's your responsibility to take action and not wait for someone else to do this for you. This is wonderful advice and a key learning that I can apply to everything I do. Thank you very much mate and keep up the great work.
Damian, I discovered your channel a few days ago and I can't tell you how much I like it and how thankfull I am for all the wisdom that you are sharing, hope to keep on having quality videos like this for a long time. Greetings from Galicia!
Thank you so much :) That's made me smile! I didn't know where Galicia is but have just done some research it looks beautiful there!
Hey Damien - really love your videos and great advice here, thank you for that!!
But just FYI, it's not the mid freqs that cut through in the vocals, it is high/mid-high. Also the reason why you need to sing closer to the mic is not frequency-related, it is simply more sound from the voice and less of the rest (drums, guitar amps, but also feedback). And actually singing close to the mic creates bass-buildup which is super muddy, but a good sound engineer will know how to remove that ;)
So in conclusion:
* if you play loud/rock/heavy, sing kissing the mic, and let the engineer remove the bass buildup
* if you play quiet acoustic music, you will actually get better sound by singing 2 inches away from the mic
Thank you, I’ve been really trying to figure out the right blend of eqs with my rock band to cut through the mix.
The lighting tip is right on. The more light on the band, the better the photos will be, so the better the social media presence will be afterwards.
video title: improve your band for free
first advise: if you have to pay, you have to pay
Love that title
thats the point buster brown. if youre looking for free tips youre probably not putting enough work in the first place.
Lul
I’m so happy I found your videos .. thank you!!
Thank you so much Hector 🙂
Im in tears, very helpful and very funny .. haha x
So much awesome stuff here but #8 all the way Damian! I invested in a handful of cheap lights and sequence them with my live rig. No other band I’ve seen (other than larger bands of course) do this and it literally cost me less than $300 for a killer light show.
I’m still in school and I’m learning this stuff now so I’m ready for when I’ve finished college and (depending if I go to it) university
Love this!
I 'm binge watching your videos ! Your channel is the bible for musicians !
Think this is possibly my favourite video so far Damo ! Keep it up, we're listening. 🙌
Abso-bloody-lutely spot-on with the mic techniques issue. does my head in! Great stuff DK!
...if we do all this staff... it will change our band forever!!!!! thanks! and thanks for the good vibes!
Stenly Spa thank you so much Stenly 😊😊😊
Like your vids, learned alot and have played them for the band,we have a band fund we put $$ in each show & we buy picks, wristbands, stickers with band logo, and give some out before & after each show,PROMOTE YOUR BAND! people love free shit!!!!
Thanks so much. I have been doing this a few decades but you have definitely helped me realise my low moments were mostly my doing. It is really helpful for a lot of us creatives who live in our own heads and fantasy worlds; and who battle with social situations. I now think we have to view the entire thing as a show and strategise within that paradigm to get by. For me, being authentic on stage is the normal part and pays off; however being oneself mingling in an event is not always ideal-when one is emotional, ones intellect definitely drops, and I feel that many opportunities are missed because of this. Giving off intense vibes and wearing ones heart on ones sleeve comes across as weird and unstable, whether that is true or not, it is off putting to business minded people who could be of great benefit to ones career.
I'm in tears, I'm following you and I need help lol
Ding! And that’s my mum. 😂😂😂😂
It's fun watching your older videos too! There's some really good humor but great advice here :-)
I just went to my band account and subscribed! I'm not missing anything else.
Hey, I just subscribed. Great content for me and my band! Networking is one of my weak points and this channel already inspires me to learn to be better netoeking as a musician and performer.
Great advice Damo, honest, practical and straight-shooting. Love it. Keep up the fantastic work mate 👍😀
Big fan of your videos Damian. Thank you for all of the time, and effort you've put into this channel. Thank you for sharing your wisdom for free.
I really appreciate that, thank you much! 😊😊😊
One of the best intros of all time right there. OMG.
I've been looking for your channel for years. Great work!
Who has a link or some advice on a portable spotlight? Love these videos! Thank you! - Jacob George Band
Great video full of great info. Very entertaining and you always keep my attention through the whole video.
We truly are surrounded by opportunities. Great vid!

Great video 👍
You remain my personal music coach...
Good job.
I’m in tears because my tears are in tears because my tears are
Fun video thanks
Thanks for your videos I appreciate Ya!
Great advice! Cheers!
I've just come across your channel like yesterday, I believe it was, and I'm really enjoying the content. There's a lot of good information on these videos, though, I suppose you already knew that :)
Consider the tips wrote, though it will definitely help me to make songs before hitting events hahaha
Thank you so much! And thanks for being a part of this community 🙂🙂
@@DamianKeyes you're welcome! Thank you for sharing your knowledge ☺
Damn this was super solid advice Damian, thank you! #MuchLove
I agree with the light. Out band had a midi programmed light show.... A little expensive but it took the show experience into another level. With no effort
We're working on this too. The idea is to sync the lights with the drummer's click track etc. However, it seems a bit complicated as we're not experienced in lighting. Could you please elaborate on your solution?
@@ferkokovac317 midi controller for the lights and then use a DAW to change the lights.... You'll have to individual ly program the lights to the kick... Guitars or whatever
@@ibrajimenez2098 Thanks for your reply! I know this, I was curious about the technical aspects - which plugins you use to program the lights, what hardware you use to convert MIDI to DMX, etc.
Binge watching you while I work from home. I’ll comment
great upload, thanks for sharing this. You da man Damian! +33
Fantastic videos man.
Thanks for great info!
+Scotty Rocker thanks Scotty 😊😊😊
Tips 7 in a nutshell is, to quote a great modern poet: "Stop cupping the mic dumbass!"
Jeez, that intro lol
#60minwin great video. Seems like you really enjoyed yourself. Hope you're doing well. Much love.
*virtually taps shoulder* Hey, I watch your videos!
"I didn´t know about it" is a fairly legit reason for not showing up. That´s the festival´s fault not the artist´s.
Great advice and information Damian. I've been watching a lot of your videos lately and they have been very helpful towards my career as a musician. Thank you and keep up the great work!
P.S. My Original band Royal Hell from the North East U.S. just released our first album! We are available on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple music, Amazon etc. Search Royal Hell-Higher Court and check us out when you get a chance. I hope you enjoy it. If you would like I can send you some of our merch when our new batch of goodies arrives since we have recently sold out on shirts hoodies and stickers! Courtesy of Royal Hell!
On another note we are working hard to build oir social media sites on Facebook and Instagram and your guidance has helped tremendously so thanks again!
Hey, I watch your videos 👀
does anyone know how you would go about finding these types of shows ;-;
Another great example from Paramore. Every concert:
"WE ARE PAAAAARRAAAAAAMOOOOOOOORE!!!!!!!!!!!!" in the most epic way possible!
It bothers me to see that not many people engage in liking your videos. You always have such low likes for 40k followers you deserve more. I appreciate your advice.
+Manni Mompeller thank you so much Manni
#1 Turn Up. This American thought, "Why? It's already too loud..... Oooh, he means 'Show up.'"
Riffman42 lol so true I’d not thought of that 😂
Great advice, and really enjoying your channel as a new subscriber. The "Who Are You?" bit hit me pretty hard after an open mic. I've since learned better, and now network beforehand, announce myself at least twice during my set, and then connect with as many artists as I can afterwards. @RobertRoweMusic on Instagram!
#60MINWIN
I'm thinking "what's that noise?"
It's your bracelets lol
NW Wales ! .. That’s Dublin right? I’m from New South Wales.. what do I win.. ?
What’s a ‘punter’?
A punter is a British slang for someone who pays to attend a gig. It is like saying a customer 😊😊
I'm going to write a list of things you can help with for if I ever see you in person lol
Yes please! Or send them through. If I can help in any way let me know 🙂
Thanks Cary
#4 Make a fucking effort
#5 Squeeze the fucking lemon

#10 Say thank you
+DreamComa I’m Batman... tell your friends about me!
😂😂😂😂 don’t be creepy as F! This is the best video ever! Damian your the man! Thanks.
AHAHAHA)) TOO MANY SHIT WORDS) BUT THE INFO IS CRAZY) THANK YOU AGAIN)
Dress like a member of AC/DC
"Los Angeleese..." is that the name of a language people speak in "Los Angeles?"
You have no Idea how much this is helping my band! You can literally see the change and now we are trying to play once a week, a lot of work but we are trying to prove it can be done. Follow my process at keepcalmaec.com and social FB or IG: charlykeepcalma (Indie Rock/Pop)
a lot of advice from who? is your band #1?..
I mean coaches for great teams and players weren’t number 1 players. Great vocal teachers or guitar teachers aren’t world famous. Get the idea dunce?
Is yours?
best quote: "the band will sound shit"
Once at a festival I went to, there was this guy who had zero mic technique. He sang so loud that the entire song became ugly-sounding and most of the audience left. People, please be aware of how you sound!!!
Ahaha hahahahaha don’t ever do that again! It’s disgraceful!
