The Different Types of Wireless Cameras and What You Should Know!

- Trail cameras that send pictures to your phone....Everybody wants them but most folks know very little about them. And that's ok. Wireless trail cameras aren't all that new but we're just getting to the point of mass social acceptance and demand amongst deer hunters. We can say that because we have a very good pulse of the trail camera market, in fact over the last 24 months we've talked about the wireless shift inside the industry quite often.
Bluetooth Technology
Pros:
- Transmit photos/videos without data charges
- Simple device setup or syncing
- Relatively low power consumption
Cons:
- Limited operational range
- Slower transmission rates vs other options
- Possible security vulnerabilities
WiFi Technology
Pros:
- Transmit photos/videos without additional charges assuming WiFi signal is present
- Simple syncing and device setup
- Faster transmission speeds
Cons:
- WiFi signal must be present for use
- The connective range is extremely limited when obstruction such as elevation and/or vegetation exist.
-
Higher power consumption and may hard wired power
Again, WiFi trail cameras aren't all that readily available on the marketplace due to the limited applicable opportunities most deer hunters have. Currently, WiFi trail cameras are still not a viable option for 99% of us.
Cellular Technology
Cellular trail cameras are without a doubt the best wireless option for hunters and anyone wanting to use wireless trail cameras in remote areas. The current marketplace is a direct reflection of that statement, nearly 99% of wireless trail cameras utilize cellular technology. Cellular trail cameras work by transmitting data over the existing cellular infrastructure of network carriers such as Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular, etc. Pending the operational network the cellular trail camera will have specific hardware optimized to run on the carrier requirements of the network. There are more than enough options available on today cellular trail camera marketplace to fill anyone's need. While the performance and capabilities will vary greatly between different models, below we noted the general pros and cons.
Pros:
- No limit on operational range pending signal strength
- Ability to manage and control the device remotely
- Accessories like security boxes and external power sources are widely available.
- Fast data transmission speeds
Cons:
- Data plans are required due to utilizing carrier networks
- The cellular signal must be present for proper function
- While makes and models will vary greatly with different functions, capabilities, and performance cellular trail cameras are the best bet for the vast majority of hunters looking to use wireless trail cameras.
All in all, that's a general outline of the different types of wireless trail cameras that are available in the market place today. For most folks cellular technology is going to be the best fit when considering wireless trail cameras. Cell cams offer the most familiarity for practical use, operations, functions, and model options. Love my Render cameras! the picture quality is amazing for a compressed image! and the HD photos are crazy clear! can't wait to get a few more
Fantastic video! I'm 67, & only so-so techy these days. Was looking for a camera like my nephew has, which is in one state -- he lives in another. It is the cellular trail cam, maybe even yours...will ask him. Being not-so-techy, I figured this would be over my head, but the way you explained it, I get it!! Thanks SO much!!
Thanks for all the good information. I appreciate your thorough explanations.
Thats was good, cleared up questions i had. Good stuff
Thank you for the info exactly what I needed to know before my purchase
Thanks for the info. It answered a lot of questions for me.
Nice info and straight to the point!
Very nice explanation, thank you!
Answers alot of questions.thanks
Awesome video. Answered alot of questions. Might have to purchase another Render..
Probably by far the best camera I have. Very user friendly. I have had this camera in the field for several months now it has taken thousands of pictures and the battery is still 100%.
Cant wait tell there is more available!!
That's great to hear Andrew, thank you!
Exodus Trail Cameras your welcome!!
Great video... thank you. Just what i needed
@@ExodusOutdoorGear
Would I be able use a cellular trail camera in the Caribbean without connection to american cell/data(B mobile , Verizon ect..providers ?
But providers such as cable & wireless .
Thank you.
This video benefited me on which trail camera I need to purchase. The camera I'm going to go with is the cellular trail camera. I do have one question how close does something have to get to the camera before the camera takes the picture? Or does it just depend on the camera and who made it?
Good clear explanation, thanks.
Great intro. Thanks
Thank you for the information. I'll be subscribing.
Thank you!
Thanks for the clarification
Excellent explanation.
Great video
How many bars does a trail camera need to have to transmit pictures? I have a Browning stand alone.
Any idea when the render will be back in stock? Been out for awhile. New model coming?
That was a great video! Answered many of the questions I had! On my 80 acre property I have only one small area that has good service. Literally 100 yards away and throughout the rest of my property I have virtually no service. I’m guessing the mesh network or link would be my only option? Is there any other companies other than cuddeback that have this system? Thanks!
We are going to have to take some of those 80 acres Biden needs somewhere to put his new refugees please allow us to build section 8 housing in that property aswelll as a quick mart store for our beloved refugee troubled youth to hang out in front of with their pants half way down their ass.

The biggest problem I’ve heard of with cellies is the curious bears will damage the antennas. Have you designed a bear box that will protect the antenna without affecting reception?
Thanks for clearing that up for me . Its was getting a bit complicated with all the confusing and sometimes bullshit information on the Web. 👌👌🇬🇧🇬🇧
I've tried Covert/SpyPoint, and then last year a pretty extensive Cuddeback/Cuddelink system of 28 cameras/3 homes over our 750 acres. I'm not overly impressed with any of them. I'll probably grab an Exodus or 2 for the new 25 acre parcel we just bought, see if you guys aren't the answer we're looking for.
Hello guys, love the show, question about your cell cameras. Do your cell cams work in Canada. If so what network do they run on up here, in Nova Scotia.
We appreciate that Zac, thanks! Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to learn when we have more Renders available.
What is the average monthly cost for cellular??
Whats the best cellular cam you have to offer
Can I watch live video between my phone and WIFI trail cam, or do I need a cellular cam to so so? I assume i can because a drone sends a live stream with no Cellular connection but I need to be certian. Thanks for the helpful video.
Is their a camera without cellular but just something my phone can connect with bc we are way out where theirs no service
so if I buy a 4g lte trail cam and I put if within range of my house wifi, is there a way to get it to just send pics to my phone via wifi or bluetooth?
Why wouldn't you just walk out there at that point? My hunting spot is a hour and half drive for me...
Hi , I hunt in mexico border deer , and i need a camera that can work with telcel or movistar , they are mexican celular companies , which camera do you think will work there ? Thanks
Great. do you sell cell towers too.. out here in the west coverage in the woods is limited to NONE.. WIFI is probably best but do the cameras work well as a HOST wifi . and which is best for that
We have a water source on our property, about 100+ feet from house, out on raw land. I want a stand alone "critter cam" to capture what comes to drink, AND be able to view that area at any time from the house on my iPad. (I have Verizon cell service.) Sounds like I want cellular 4G style. What do you recommend?
We sell a Verizon 4G device, the exodus render! Check it out!
Hi guys love the show, question about cell cam the render, do they work on a network in Canada?
We do not have a cellular trail camera that will operate in Canada currently. Thanks for watching and asking the question!
@@ExodusOutdoorGear thanks for getting back to me, keep up the good work, hopefully someday your cameras are up here. Take care.
Good shit. 💯
What was the name of the camera that has the mesh network?
So, I buy the camera how much is the plan to get it to work ?
Is it possible to save video on my phone by wifi-contacting?
Have you thought about making your Render cameras with the ability to create a mesh or link system as well?
Paul Crave we actually worked on a link system back in 2016 and pulled the plug for a multitude of reasons. For the foreseeable future we will stay with stand alone wireless devices.
What if scenario?? Living in Mexico for the winter, using Mexican TelCel as my cel network provider, which shares towers in the US, will a 4g cellular trail cam work, providing I have aTelCel sim card installed? Regards, DaleO
Question mine only sends pictures at certain times is there a way for the it to send notice immediately when it captures movement
If you’re using the Exodus Render, you can just change your upload interval on the SCOUTEK app.
Do the cell cameras have a sd card also?
Hi Chad. Looking good brother.
So if I want to put up more then one camera do I have to pay for service on each one? How does that work? And where do I buy the service?
With the Exodus Cell cameras the service is fee is per camera per month. The camera controls, photo management, and data plan management are all done through the SCOUTEK app
Do that cellular cam works word wide ??????
So, I guess one good indicator is, if you don't get cell phone reception where you hunt, than a carrier based trail cam wouldn't work either ?
That is correct
Very thorough overview. Thanks. Very helpful!
What are the average costs of these?
Do these camera I met a red light in the middle of the night , ??!! Thanks BigAl California
Our cameras are black flash cameras. No visible light
We bought a $35 drone with a low light camera. We set it in a field at night for coyote hunting . It sends a Wi-Fi signal to our phones(for free) as long as we are within five or six hundred yds. You don't even have to have a network plan on your phone for it to work. Why haven't the deer camera companies picked up on this cheap technology? Thanks
Damn that’s smart
Link for drone ? 🍀🍀
Ikr
They have they just choose to run this shit like the mafia and keep prices up and control quality and narrative as well as innovations.
Yeah dude, spill the beans. Senf tha link
👍🏼
I presume it takes night pics as well? I'm guessing all trail cams do. I'm not a hunter, I'm a female looking for the cellular type of camera to use for home security.
So when is the render going to be available for sale? 😥
Be sure to sign up for our email newsletter. You’ll be the first to know!
pecocountryboy I got 2 of them I’ll sell ya!
@@aarongoeppner413 what?! Don't you like them?
pecocountryboy don’t like the picture quality. Good battery life though
We have someone illegally living in the canyon behind our house, which is on our property. The area does have our wifi signal; my apple watch got text messages with my cell phone up in the house. We would like to install a camera up in a tree where he cannot reach and hopefully will not be able to see, either. Our goal is to get video to send to the city to have him removed. He litters, has stolen our "no trespassing" signs, and you just don't want to know what else he does down there! What do you recommend?
Spotty/no cell coverage here, so I guess I’m back to trail cameras with an SD card.
I got a couple Renders and love them. I’m phasing out all my Covert cellular to Exodus and I’m not looking back.
Thanks Nick!
Nick Harmon how do you get them to have clear pictures? The 2 I bought I can’t hardly tell if it’s even a buck
Aaron Goeppner I haven’t had that issue. The coverts had blurry and I think it was due to hanging them 12ft up. I put the Renders at waist high and one climbing stick up. And where none of the plants around them can trigger them and they have been fine. Contact the Exodus guys the customer service is excellent Good luck
Exodus Trail Cameras no thank you for the excellent products
Nick Harmon I have contacted them but it didn’t change
I am new to the trail cam thing and I am sure this is going to be a stupid question. But if someone spots your trail cam and steals it then you’re proof is gone.
Not necessarily, wireless cameras transmit the photos to your phone. So your proof would be on your phone!
Shout out to Jake for the feature!! Haha
Super blurry pictures!
P T prolly $225 each. They were $320 new
The team talked to 100,000 of people. Hahah 100,000s lol. I bet there wasn’t even 100,000 at the show let alone have 100,000 visit you for a single question about a camera!!
There are no Bluetooth cameras those all network
Why do no one ever say the whole story or answer all of the questions, why can’t anyone tell e if I can have a game camera 🎥 way way way out in the middle of the Desert 🏜, do I need cell or WiFi or blue tooth , I need a camera that will send me pictures to my tablet,??!., thanks BigAl California.
Hey big Al! Most likely you would need a cell camera. However - if there’s no cell signal the camera can’t transmit he photos back to you. If you have cell coverage out there, a cell camera is what you’re looking for.
