Just fuel mileage tips in general: -if you brake with effort constantly, it’s a sign you’re too hard on the gas pedal. Ease on the throttle, build up speed gradually when you need to, and coast with your speed built up as much as you can, especially with stop-go traffic. Only throttle when absolutely needed. -best way to use less gas is to build up speed before a climb. Not gunning it when you’re driving up a hill.
Great vid. I used to be Sport mode forever @ 17.5mpg, but I now really like Normal mode with consistent take offs. Even in normal, the Q50 will bolt fast. I use ECO mode for the wife, not for gas, but whiplash. She complains about the harsh take offs - go figure. So it shouldn’t be called ECO it really is Chauffeur mode. Overall I’m at 22.5 mpg now :)
I run ECO on my highway runs and I have noticed an extra 1.5-2MPG over standard! It’s more of an encouragement of slow driving more then anything but it personally helps me!
You got it J. There is a Driver mod for MPG out there, if one is willing to learn & focus. Learn the gearing on your car vs. city & highway situations. Focus on being consistent at using the car's thrust in the most optimized manner possible, and your MPG for that particular car won't be beat. 35 PSI at all four corners on my X, avg 21 MPG in the Summer and close to 19 in Canadian Winters. All maintenance done on time. Shell 91. Now I'm going for a drive, cool vid man.
Like that ending. The Q sounds sooo good. Major facts about Eco mode I tried it on the highway and never again. I did not have the patience to stay with it cause I could not move how I normally do 🤣. Most will have to learn how to coast and not be so heavy footed on the pedal
I just bought a 2014 Q50s RWD. Im comming from a 2011 nissan xterra that would get maybe 22mpg on long freeway drives. I now average 22.5 mpg. Its all about how you drive. Also eco mode help you control how you drive so it does help also helps keep your mindset on saving fuel. premium gas aint cheap.
I am in Chicago where you have to stop every block or 2 and Eco mode adds about 1-2 mpg. From 14 to 15.5 miles. When I am in rural Michigan it is around 19mph in regular mode. It's the stop and start that kills the mileage. Now if I lived where you could go half a mile or longer without having to stop then yes eco would not help since it only helps off the line.
I just touched 15.3mpg Been using cruise control since I’m now in the highway every day ! And eco hopefully by the end of the week should be seeing 20mpg
Yes I needed this. And I agree eco mode is worse. Lately I've been driving less due to gas prices but I've been at 16.2 mpg for about a month and 15.9 before that. I'm gonna look into getting diff and trans fluid change because I do have awd and about 96k miles. Also, I'm ashamed to see that light on your cluster.
@@carlosbolanos5361 well best of luck to your mpg in this uncertain time of extreme gas prices and also would highly recommend some new spark plugs specifically ngk laser iridium
I never tried (or needed to) until last night, decided to set cruise control above 90mph and it wasn’t having it (- - - ). I’m going to just throw it out there I’ve found that eco does help if you let it unless your going at highway speeds which here is usually 75 but I noticed if you put it in eco about 40 ish it will automatically put u in the next highest gear or usually 7th gear and it helps a little bit not much
Definitely help, idk why but my Q50 mpg went from 19.2 to 14.5🤯 don’t know how to fix it especially with these gas prices. I am going to change the rear diff fluid and check the trans fluid and even the spark plugs. Hopefully it can go back up.
I’d do a fresh oil change replace all filters too. I’ve netted 20.9 mpg mixed city and highway consistently. Maintenance is key in not only longevity but MPG as well
Great vid! I’ve attempted the ECU reset by following those steps where you engage/let off the pedal a few times and by counting the seconds. Something the G37 did i guess to reset its “driving pattern” not sure if that worked so I’ll DC the battery here soon. After multiple attempts of trying to get my MPG from around 17/18 to over 20, the only real big difference I’ve seen is simply your right foot on the gas. Sometime my baby just wants to goooo and I’ll see those RPMs shoot up. All in the driver honestly 😂 dang axle back exhaust has me wanting to just let it rip all the time haha
cruise control can also be a big help. I've noticed that if drive aggressively then resetting the ecu can help the transmission do smoother low rpm shifts saving gas (this works by disconnecting the battery for about 30 min) The ecu has some learning shift/driving thing going on that can make it drive more agressive
In my experience, cruise control has always resulted in worse mileage. I never use cruise control for that reason. The ecu learns your driving habits. If you disconnect the battery or you don’t drive for a long time you might notice that your car seems quite sluggish. If you drive aggressively on a regular basis your car will pick up those more aggressive shift points and more aggressive style of driving in general. So yes unplugging your battery and having it reset to a less aggressive base you may see better mileage for a period of time.
@@SpeedCultureStudios hey man love the videos and the car . Do you think a used ark or another exhaust system is worth it and for a temporary exhaust could I get a cheap axle back for my Q50
I feel that claim is probably at the perfect scenarios where there is no hills, decent weather- not too hot or cold, not driving against wind, barely any traffic etc. Oh and no mods lol. Realistically, I hear people get avgs of low 20's
@@tykedogtyke is yours a 3.7? I drive my AWD 3.7 like a 90 year old woman. I have 0 mods. Now granted I have a 70 mile commute every day. I would say 7 miles is in moderat city traffic.
Great video but I disagree about eco... I particularly notice the transmission tuning when cruising at certain speeds (corresponding with different respective gears), if you're driving around 40 mph eco lets the car upshift one more time so you'll be cruising at roughly 1k rpm and getting easily 40mpg while maintaining your speed on flat ground. Without eco it wont upshift so your rpm will be higher thus getting worse gas mileage. It also blocks you from upshifting in manual mode so from what I've seen eco mode is the only way to maintain your speed and stay below 1500 or so rpm. This becomes completely irrelevant at higher speeds because you run out of gears to upshift
This is the point - if you are driving any distance at any speed eco is useless. Stop and go traffic it is useless as you’re idling anyway. And short trips around town at low speeds-the difference between gears 4th to 5th for example are a couple hundred rpm at most which does lead to any significant fuel savings. Now maybe if you are cruising at 30mph for an hour straight …
I don't think that really increases drag. Air moving through the grille of the car to the intercooler happens no matter what. it's going to pass through the fins and eventually to the engine block and firewall anyway--the cars aerodynamics are engineered to move air over and around the vehicle. Simply placing a larger intercooler behind the grill isn't really going to change that flow.
@@NotBigL reset your battery, if you bought it used the previous owner probably drove it aggressively and the ECU learned their shift points leaving you with worse mpg
