I started carnivore 10 months ago. It began strict, the benefits and body changes were huge, but I've also listened to my body and have found more balance. If I feel like a few cups of yogurt, I eat and enjoy it. If my daughter is chopping up some fresh carrots, I grab a small handful and love ever bite of it. I'm 99% carnivore but I'm not a monk :). And that balance has allowed me flexibility, great results and to look and feel amazing at 55.

I transitioned from carnivore to animal based diet because I wasn't sleeping well and feeling weak when working out. So I went animal based with just one fruit (orange or grapefruit or berries) daily, near the end of the day. I also eat a small amount of cooked veggies, especially esparagus and broccoli. I sleep better and have more energy while not gaining weight. So for now I will stick to that.

@@suzyvegalicious5646 It is not 'unethical' to eat animals. But it may be against your PERSONAL morals. That's your personal choice and should NOT impact other people.
Veganism was originally just a diet. It had absolutely nothing to do with animal welfare until animal rights activists got involved and took over, kicking out the very man who had originally invented the diet and set up the organisation.
Until humans aquire the adaptations to live exclusively on plant material (which no animal does) we cannot be healthy excluding animal products from our diet. In fact the hominin species who tried that de-evolved and died out.

We had the work Christmas party early this year. I ate everything as if I was off the 95% carnivore plan. Beers, chips, ham and cheese sandwiches, moonshine (my own
of course), one or two chocolate cookie candy things and the main meal of carnitas, corn and potatoes. I weighed myself @ 81.5 kilos or 179.3lbs at 5'6"s tall the next two days were like having a hangover from all the carbs and processed crap. Know before you all think I drank too much. I usually have a few beers and shine on the weekends. Never feel bad the next day. I weighed myself the morning after the party and was 84.7kilos or 186.3lbs. it took 3 days before I was back to my 81.5 kilos and NO it was not worth it. If anyone is going to try something new. • @evanmotions
    @evanmotions Месяц назад +31

the biggest reasons why carnivore doesnt always work long term for some people is 2 reasons. One is that they eat too much protein and not nearly enough fat, not even close. when youre zero carb and then also too low on fat and high on protein, your body has to get energy from carbs since youre not giving it enough fat. so it uses the amino acids from the protein to use that for fuel. that is a very very inefficient way of energy metabolism and requires a lot of nutrients which you will get depleted in. if youre however eating enough fat and keep protein low enough so it doesnt turn into glucose, you will burn ketones instead of glucose, this gives a lot more energy and is way more efficient for your mitochondria and spares a lot more nutrients than burning glucose does. you have to imagine that our ancestors ate WAY more fat than we do now. mammoths and other megafauna were extremely fatty and we used to live on that, not on lean cuts of steak that the people in the west are so used to nowadays. in europe, especially eastern europe the fat is still prized, common and normal to consume, but not so much in the US.
second reason why carnivore doesnt always work for everyone is the lack of organ meats, especially liver, brain and bone marrow. these are nutritional powerhouses and we definitely ate those throughout our history. eating just muscle meat might give some deficiencies for some people.
So, the two main issues why carnivore doesnt always work for everyone, is because theyre still burning glucose, but through a very inefficient process and an inefficient energy source: protein. we need to use FAT if we dont consume carbs. and second is the nutrient deficiencies by not eating nose to tail, as we always would have done in our history as human beings.
    all the best everyone

An avocado or two or some coconut milk. etc. Some of these are seasonal from my garden. I plan to continue adding more ingredients to begin to make a dish that I feel good about eating maybe 1 or 2x a month. To me the carnivore diet is a touchstone of my good health. Hey doc!
Your video where you "quit the carnivore diet" actually got me a bit worried and made me do some more research. You know how that is... we don't really have good data in that regards but bits and pieces we try to glue together to form a hypothesis that makes some sense. This is what I wanted to share with you:
I found some resources suggesting the 6-9month mark is a microbiome issue. (same as the -approx. - 1 month mark and 2 year mark) (There was a single video that covered this well but I seem to have forgotten to bookmark it :( )
I also, from my own experience and some sources that support the idea, think the season matters. Yes, well, for us who have seasons, probably. Something that might have something to do with deuterium? Idk but it kind of explains why Saladino can get away with what he's doing, living where he lives, and you can't ;) + he's very active so he offsets the extra carbs that way too.
Anyway, lemme know what you think.

At the 9 month mark, I alos started feeling off and took advice from some who suggested berries, some other fruit, avo and a little honey. Well, after experimenting I felt much worse. Had constant headache. I coldn't balance my electrolytes and i gained fat. So I cut out the carbs except for small amount of milk and it took 3 months to recover properly. Now it's been 2 years and I'm thriving.

@NikkiDawes-x2t Took me a while to sort mine out. Eventually realised that I was getting more than enough potassium from meat and eggs so stopped adding any. For me, I can't do any sugar. It aggravates my lifelong epilepsy. So I'm a strict carnivore. I also had to eliminate all cheeses because though I felt awesome, it was stalling me out. Since I dropped the cheeses, I've started to lose body fat again. I've also stopped adding extra fats - just eating the fat that comes with the meat and whole eggs. Eating a stick of butter doesn't work for me for fat loss either and it makes sense - if you're eating energy, your body will use the excess energy before it taps into its own stored energy. So it seems like people as slender as steak and butter gal can get away with eating sticks of butter and cheese.. they don't have any excess fat to lose. My excess fat wasn't going anywhere until I reduced my extra added fats and cheeses. I will reintroduce them when I get to my ideal weight for my size and use them as maintenance tools! But yeah.. this diet, the proper human diet, is perfect for humans, you just tweak it for your own personal goals!

I truly believe the amount of carbs we over eat that are unnecessary if we are only a little active, will be the key factor when weight gain happens. The best diet is carnivore with low carb in the form of raw dairy like milk. Honey can be added IF you are very active and your body calls for it. Good rule of thumb is carnivore diet with carbs added in to an amount equal to the amount of energy you use a day. If you’re not very active, carnivore with a glass or two of raw milk a day. If you’re mildly active, raw milk, honey, and whatever other carbs agree with you that are animal based. Fruit might be a challenge while on carnivore considering many fruits seem to make people feel gassy who give it a try after being carnivore, safe bets are milk, yogurt, and honey. I would bet carnivore, plus raw milk and honey if needed, are the absolute best combination

Haven't been on any medication for over 2 years whereas it used to eleven of them, allsorts of other beneficial changes, weight was never a huge problem for me but at 60 years old I'm back to the shame sort of shape was as a keen martial artist in my twenties
Aside from the meat, fish & eggs I do have some dairy sourced from local farms including raw milk, eat some vegetables about twice a week, mainly onions, peppers and leafy greens, also what we Brits call chips twice a week, double-fried in beef dripping [tallow]
So I would definitely agree that a small amount of carbs alongside eating mostly meat and eggs can definitely work, and it does make it more sustainable, I do about 3 days a week of completely carnivore, also do time-restricted feeding style intermittent fasting where I tend to eat all my food within a 6-8 hour window, one day a week I'll only eat once and every 6-8 weeks I'll do a fast around 36 hours
After 5 or 6 years of experimentation that seems to be what works best for me

Then between 6 and 9 months (sound familiar?) things fall apart, sometimes quite graphically. He said it had something to do with what the sudden switch does to the microbiome but the problem doesn't tip over into trouble until about 6 months in. I'm sorry, I can't remember exactly what the reason was - all I needed to remember was don't go Lion Diet overnight because bad things will happen 6-9 months later - but maybe you can find it on his channel (or carnivore tribe channel).

What I have found is there is a simple formula: stay away from processed foods. Eat foods as high a quality and as you can. I keep to four Fs........Fruit, Fowl, Fish and Flesh. I change the arrangement and amounts based on how my body feels and I no longer count calories. I intermittent fast regularly as that seems to keep my body balanced. Its really not that complicated, but it took me 40 years to arrive at it.....after many dogmatic diets created by many people.

Bravo!!! I love your approach and attitude. I have 3 questions:1) Is it really bad to gain weight to some degree? Isn't fat a good fuel storage for one? It's possible to have real food shortage in the future. 2) Is "all plants are trying to kill you" true in all context? 3)is there a way to take advantages from both meat and plants (directly, with proper cooking)?

Yes, I would like to see what you eat in a week. It would help me sort out the diet. Thanks

I think you are looking at this from the wrong perspective. You started experiencing some issues not because the diet was somehow incorrect but because your body is reducing threshold of sensitivity to food. You ate something and you were OK ,but couple months later the same food becomes problem. About a month ago I started experiencing some severe anxiety. Being on carnivore and eating limited number of foods I knew that something is off but introducing carbs back into a diet was not an option. I did not want to do it. Increasing intake of heavy cream and butter didn’t make things better. Then I realized that I was avoiding eating sardines for couple weeks. Bingo. Anxiety subsided gradually when I started eating sardines again. It would suggest that my body requires right now more of certain elements. I also have to consider that it may change eventually. Human body is not a static thing.

Hi, how does carnivore diet effect stamina and endurance? I'm an ex-bowel cancer patient, losing ~1/3 of my large intestine (lower), have since struggled with food: intake, output, bloating, extreme gas, cramps and general discomfort. I find that on a carnivore type diet i become regular, and most symptoms fade away. However, due to the enduro mx that I undertake, having large energy stores is a must, what effect will carnivore and the encompassed type fasting have on stamina and endurance? Happy to have a verbal convo; If you watch any of my enduro videos, you will see the type of physical and mental strengths I require and situations I put myself into. Cheers Mike.
Also - side note, I am currently listening to your podcasts on the carnivore diet on Spotify.

The zero carb helped me heal my gut but after about six months it didn't feel right so I added some onions, homemade kombucha and herbal teas and I'm feeling much better...

You gained 10 to 15 kg? An estimate? Rounding differences? Don't you have scales? Just curious ...

I’ve had the same experience. After about a year I didn’t feel great on strict carnivore so I tried AB and I felt amazing at first but it only took 3 months for all my chronic conditions to come back - HI, RA, IBS, anxiety, depression, brain fog - so I’m back to a relaxed version of carnivore. If I feel like a piece of fruit I’ll have it, or a teaspoon of honey/maple syrup, a small portion of low toxin vegetable occasionally. I definitely do best 99% carnivore as well but eating the occasional low toxin food seems to feel more sustainable for me and I have less leg cramps. I’m going to try the boron though for leg cramps that you recommended in another video. Also, do you think if we’re mostly eating ground beef in my case, not steak, so never cooked rare, that we could be deficient in taurine? And what would that do? Thanks for a great video!

Sorry to hear that. My wife is one month into strict carnivore due to chronic illnesses and she feels great. However, now I'm worried that it'll eventually level off. I wonder what's causing people to not feel great on carnivore after prolonged adherence.

@ I’m back to 99% carnivore and feeling amazing. I’m not sure why some of us seem to need a little plant material, I think probably because that’s more ancestral than 100% carnivore based on what indigenous tribes ate pre colonial times. There was always some plants even if only minimal and seasonal such as wild berries, mushrooms, roots, nuts and tubers plus occasional leaves in early spring. This is the diet I’m currently trying to replicate. No daily plant matter but occasionally seems to keep me feeling great. Watch this doctor’s video on the mineral boron and have your wife look into taking it. It could be reason why.

Yes please tell us what you eat in a week😉 Do you fast at all? Carnivore is a healing, elimination type of diet so after a period of healing it may be time to go back to more normal eating introducing healthy carbs back in slowly. Not all the garbage. 🤷🏽‍♀️
