- i am beyond honored to have been chosen to be a part of the new launch of the m6. after 20 years they are bringing the m6 back into production. so thankful they stayed true to the classic m6 design. but with a few modern updates. it's beautiful.
the new leica m6 is here: leica-camera.com/en-US/photog...

Love your work, Joe. Calling this release a step towards increased accessibility is a stretch to say the least, but it is really amazing to see the yearning of our generation for more tactile, analog ways of expressing creativity.
While I somewhat agree, I also think that Leica planting a flag with a new film camera in 2022 will hopefully send a signal to the industry that there could be an established market for 35mm film. Hopefully this will result in other manufacturers doing the same, more film being produced resulting in lower prices, etc.
@@drewshannon they never stopped.. Nikon dropping an F2/3 would be a sign.
@@MickBenjamins I'm not so naive as to think that this is guaranteed to be an industry-changing release, or that now we can claim that "film is back". But I also think that if one of, if the not the, most influential camera brands in the world is putting more film cameras out into the world, it's not unreasonable to assume that other brands will be watching that and might think they can do it too. I agree that this M6 release is not increasing accessibility in-and-of-itself. But if it's a success, I think it's possible this rolls downhill and results in more manufacturers investing in film.
It’s a nice camera. But no, it’s not a film renaissance. The future is, for better or worse, digital. Leica needs to know it’s not going to change the trajectory of film. This camera will mostly be in the hands of old rich white men with nothing much to say.
Sad fact. X
It doesn't matter who buys it if it's bought. If this turns out to be a success, this will spark the eyes of other companies and, with competition, more options will be available for us. That's a fact. Take the smartphone industry as example: one company releases something desireable, everyone copies it, soon it's accessible.
The film comunity should be rooting for the M6 success, not hating on it.
Go, rich people! Buy the M6 as if there isn't tomorrow!! 😂
not sure how a new leica increases accessibility but i hope you're right. i hope that either film goes down or salaries go up to be able to afford it again. or that my future clients will be willing to shell out a little bit more for us to be able to take our time, load the film and shoot it.

Okay that lightning shot was crazy
Hopefully this would be a sign of revival for the whole analog industry. It’s a big step forward for the community. Loving or hating Leica, both its technical features or price, taking this step in today’s environment is a very brave action that might spark other companies to rival. This has happened in many other technological industries where one company had to start it all and others followed. If we like film photography we have to see it as a landmark to restore an analog camera production in 2022 and hope that film stock production will increase as well and maybe tomorrow other companies will release or re-release their own in order to improve the accessibility for all of us, including the ones who can’t afford a Leica.

It won't. This is a boutique item for a boutique crowd. Film as a medium has become so romanticised. Apart from the fact that film will be instinct, given the way its made and the prosess involving chemicals that are on the naughty list, old film equipment will eventually just die for good. And repairing them will become so laughably expensive and impossible. And we are not talking that far into the future. Not to mention the inflation and the price of film will just continue to rise.
Another problem with the film photography community is what you see in this video. In the end it becomes all about the equipment and romanticising the "analog prosess".
From a former film enthusiast. Just let it go.
@@laurencewhite4809 The community is still big enough to support itself and I can't see how it can die soon. At some point, maybe. But for the years to come there is no way it's going to die.
Everyone I know is shooting or has a friend who shoots film and people are becoming more and more interested in it. The fact that Kodak has hired new people to cope with the high demand says a lot. In the same manner, Cinestill is releasing a brand new roll of film. Other brands are doing the same. There are color films stocks getting sold out after hours after being received in stores.
The niche is pretty much alive and it will stay for long as we live. Sure, the prices have gone way up, but that's mostly because of inflation and material crisis. These will be solved at some point and with Kodak hiring new people especially for the analog industry it says to me that some of the issues are going to be fixed soon.
No one says shooting film is perfect or doesn't come with disadvantages, most financial or in terms of accessibility, but it's hard to take the pleasure from someone who loves doing it - nothing wrong with loving a medium.
@@CristianNicolae Sorry if I came off negative. I actually agree with a lot of what you said :)
Where can we buy film nowadays for $5 per roll?
I loved every second of this video. The editing, color grading, storytelling and composition are perfect. A huge inspiration for young filmmakers.
Beautiful film man about your leica experience. Love the visuals made by Eric Floberg and Steven Schultz. Well done.
I gotta say the editing and cinematography in this coupled with your photos is pure bliss. So beautiful.
So it’s an MP styled as an M6. And massively unaffordable, great.
Its a Leica... they don't do a budget camera
It's a work of art. MP is arguably a perfect camera too. Can't wait to get mine! 😍
@@alexauga how can any camera be a perfect camera? Incredibly subjective. The last camera you would want for fast frame / low light sports photography would be any Leica M 35mm
@@lordotori9063 Of course it’s subjective, although in a set of capable hands I would still argue the MP is perfect and ready for any scenario, no battery required, fully mechanical at every shutter speed & built like a tank, it is quite literally a ‘desert island’ camera, just make sure to pack loads of film!
@@alexauga I could name so many scenarios where it would be such a terrible camera to use
I'm not sure how I feel about the new M6. It's a good sign that the market for analog cameras apparently is growing again. But wouldn't it have been great if it was an actual new model? And wouldn't it have been great if it wasn't 5.000 bucks? This is an accessory for influencers and rich folks. I don't know. Not really excited about it.
It's a cynical marketing gimmick. If the market wanted a camera like this they could just buy the MP, since the difference in price is negligible.
@@mattah You're right
That is the description of the Leica brand, not only for the M6 🤣
@@mattah I guess the big thing is Leica announcing that they're making new film cameras in this day and age, because I'd wager that not a lot of people knew that Leica was still making film cameras, I didn't even know there was the M-A or that they were still making the MP. For how much they market their digital cameras and this m6, you'd think, as a so called prestige brand, they'd market to the highest prestige market of photography, film photography.
I am so proud!!! What a dream come true to work with Leica! You're killin it bro!
i shed tear. thank u ioe.
This is one of the best videos regarding the M6. It certainly sold me :)
This is dope, I’m glad they hit you up to premiere it to the world, I guess I gotta start saving 🙌

I dont shoot on a Leica but watching this just got me pumped to get out and shoot anyways. Capture my own cool sweet moments. Thanks Joe for always putting in the work and showing us the way to our own paths. Peace out ✌🏾👽
Getting pumped to go out and shoot is the whole idea! Grab whatever camera you have an get some!
Beautiful! ❤
What I would buy for 5.000$: A Bronica SQ, a Nikon F100 or F5, an Nikon FM2, 3 Nikkor lenses, a half-frame Olympus Pen D, a shitload of film both B&W and color, 3-4 different developers to experiment, darkroom equipment including an enlarger in mint condition, the best photographic papers available, a seminar for B&W develop/print photography. And with the rest I would travel around the world in non-touristic countries to fill my portfolio. Owning a Leica is a drop in the ocean comparing to what you can experience in the world of of film photography. If you read this, please try to discover the magic of film photography rather than dreaming just ONE camera.
Brilliant video!! Insane aesthetics
Hard work and dedication ! great job Joe ! kind regards from Argentina 👏🙏

Soooo rad!!!! Great job by Leica
It was a pleasure met you in Wezlar 🎞
This was perfect for you!
Joe. I felt that brother. This was beautifully done Leica.
I still support the development of new Pentax film cameras and definitely more affordable prices !!
this was beautiful bro!
As a retired commercial photographer, and a avid street shooter, I compliment your work. They will have to pry my 1996 M6 from my cold dead hands. Love the video and the content ! Thanks, Rick….. 📷
Love your work and ethos Joe. 🔥
Bought my M6 from 1995 in silver around 2009, when nobody care about film any more, in top condition in a Leica store for only 1000 Dollar. They had a black M6 too at the same price. If I had known better .....
the chills!
Love it Joe. Been following you from the early days on instagram and you’ve been paving the way since. This can only be a good thing for the film community 🖤🖤🖤
This is huge & inspiring!
This gave me chills. I love Leica, my M4 and also you, Ioe. What an inspiration.
Fantastic Leica Image film and beautiful grading.
Love it brother, definitely interested in checking out this new M6 but more so excited about the impact of this on the film community. For now I will stick with my first Leica I purchased, a 1985 M6 but one day would love to pick up one of the new ones! Never getting rid of my original though
@@arkphotog absolutely, repackaged MP or not it’s a step into making film more normal and just one of many companies bringing this medium back to life. If they brought back the M3 it would be impactful on the film community. What if canon rereleased a film camera in 2022? Or Nikon, or any other manufacturer today. No one would argue that it would impact the film community. People are upset about the price like they expected Leicas to be cheap or that anyone who was slightly interested in photography could pick up the new M6. Just because it’s expensive and unattainable to the average person (myself included) doesn’t diminish the impact it has on the community
@@arkphotog that’s fair! Great marketing that’s for sure! It’s definitely getting the buzz they wanted. I guess for me I liken it more to ford bringing back the bronco, it was a classic that people liked and now they have a newer version of it. Obviously the analogy between cars and cameras break down 🤷♂️ I get your point though!
Beautifully told man! Been following you since the first days of Instagram and I'm happy you got the opportunity to be part of this launch...well deserved. Nice work brotha!

I’m so tempted to get one. I use the M7 and M10-R for personal work, but the beauty of this M6 surpasses the ease of use of an M7 every day. With the new viewfinder it should be as good. Considering the amount of work to build one and the pre-owned prices of mint M6s nowadays (around €3,500), the €5k seems fair. This will be a classic for decades to come…
Youre so inspiring man ❤️ much love 🫶🏼
How can it be a step toward accessibility when the body costs so much more than it would cost to buy a refurbished original?
I'm very excited about this rerelease, but I'm not sure if the word "accessible" should have been used as much as it was in this video 😂😂
Let’s fricking GO!!! 🤘🏼
Great work and story.
Such beautiful camera
I hope they shot this video on film
This is such good news for folks that are already shooting the M6 (like myself) as I feel like this means there will be continued support for the model, even if it's not one of the brand new ones. That being said, I'm disappointed that Leica couldn't get the price down a little bit more. The M6 has never been inexpensive, but I had heard rumors they were bringing it back, and was secretly hoping somehow they'd give us a $3500 camera.
Still... Good news for the M6 and film photography crowd.
Seriously.. I was stoked when I heard about the new Leica M6. But 5k€ for a Camera I can get for 2.600€ 😳 3.500€ allright. Or 5k with glas on it but 5k€ for a naked M6 is too much.
@@boronizer848 I agree. I was kind of hoping maybe they'd keep the other film cameras in their lineup as the 'premium' models and release the M6 as a more budget-friendly camera. I'm curious to see if the pricing of this new one drives up the used pricing of the old ones even more. I paid about $2k for my M6 in perfect condition with a recent CLA from a reputable dealer. I think last week they were up in the $2600 range. I imagine they'll be fetching closer to $3500 now...
It’s an MP in an M6 body. Why would they price it lower than the MP?
@@neverninetofive I’m not saying I don’t think it’s worth it, I’m just saying I was hoping it would have come in at a little more accessible price point for those looking to get into, what I believe is, the best modern rangefinder system.
I absolutely adore my M6 and I’m inspired by it every time I pick it up. I was just kind of hoping the “new” M6 would be as accessible as the “old” M6 was years ago. Still exciting and wonderful news for the film photography world.
That's still a lot of money hahaha I'll keep shooting with my $50 Olympus XA2
hi, thank you for the review. Which lens is the best with the new M6? thank you.
Excellent shots brother
Fantastic
Well done!
Killing it!
So hype
Love ur work ❤
Another camera for posh photographers. The video editing was nice and I am glad to see people talk about how their gear changes them.
Just heard you on Peters channel so came over...... LOVED IT!
wow, what a great film video.
Well said, well made.
This was an awesome vid, great seeing so many of your photos at once
Your composition is top-notch
The same way Willem introduced me to the world of medium format with his rz and I started with an rb. You pushed me to finally own my m6 and switched up my workflow. Todays a special day for a lot of Leica users.
New vid wooo!
New follower here! Love your work.
Thank-you for posting. I wonder what flash unit and cord you are using at about 2:15 of the video. Cheers from Canada
🙌🏼
Glad to see the M6 back in production. If I did not already have an M6, I would buy the new one or an MP.
Man I came for the Leica and discovered your work, such a fantastic work!

Great video
amazing video! same with me. my leica mp is my be all, end all camera. i would love to know what brand your bag is joe? thanks
Damn sir, this gave me chills ✨
so many incredible images, always wanted to own an m6, hopefully one day the dream will come true
@PapayaDoctor no one said it would. Same than driving a Porsche or Ferrari doesn’t make you a better driver. But if you can afford it why not owning a nice camera
Add 5 to 10k for a quality Leica lens too.
@@mpk33 obviously when you start to buy Leica it’s often that money isn’t an issue. Especially if you go for new ones
What type of LCD does this have on the back? Also I can’t find how many megapixels
That's the dream life man! Hope you can remember how blessed it is. NYC with a leica M6 and a good eye like yours. Please don't get mad if you run across my youtube video bashing leica shooters. Just playing off stereotypes. Subscribed!
love your work Joe, keep it up!
It’s funny, I don’t have a Leica, just a Sony a6000 and a 7 artisans cheap lens. But just by watching this, it makes me feel inspired and all I want to do now is taking out my camera and start taking pictures
Hey Joe. Missed u man!
Man the sound of the filming winding gets me every time. Beautiful camera and love your work Joe
I would love to "write my own story" too, and I'd certainly could do that if not the fact that I can't afford some even basic equipment and don't have enough money for food sometimes. I recently understood that I really wanna dive in into film photography, but it costs alot, and I'm mostly interested in 6x4.5 and 4x5 formats.
@Joe Greer Amazing Content here. I love how in 3 minutes your give a tibute to the M6 and the soul of analog photography at all.
BTW - what Lenshood (Part-Nr.) is it you use on the Summicron ?
Keep up the amazin work !
I’m a big fan of your photography and am lucky enough to shoot a Mamiya7, Hasselblad 500CM and a Nikon F3 among others. All of those I purchased before the incomprehensible rise in prices for those cameras. I shall always regret not purchasing a Hasselblad Xpan for £450 or an original M6 for £750 in 2005…. However; for you to suggest that this camera is going to make film photography so much more accessible to so many more people is more than something of a stretch. I’m sure the odd pro might take one on but I think they’ll stick with the MP, with most going to wealthy amateurs…
Magnifique 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🙌🔥
It’s an expensive camera but if Leica is successful, who knows? Maybe we can see a new film Nikon or Pentax camera come out? Canon and Sony are pretty much out with E and RF lenses but if Leica is commercially successful it’s only a matter of when competitors come out with lower priced options!
I'm writing my story man
bout to get m6 tattooed on my body... lets go.
Lovely lovely lovely shots, great job to the team
Excellent work my man! Much love from East Tennessee🙏🏼
Legend
Will it come with a 0.58x viewfinder option like the M6 TTL?
Nope. 0.72…as always.
I respect your drive and work Joe... but calling the New Leica M6 accessible is a stretch at over $5k just for the body. It's still a good sign to see new film cameras coming out tho... exciting stuff!
What camera bag is this you use?
Everything about this video is so beautiful. Thanks
That's great news, that Leica is producing the M6 again! This is my first time hearing of this. That's great news for the film community.
what camera was this video filmed on?
Shout out to @Eric Floberg for this masterpiece.
Lovely video. Hard to call anything that costs $5200 an accessible camera. It’s amazing and high quality but the masses can’t afford it.
^^ You warm me up ^^ I recently buy my 1st Leica but m4 to find out if it is camera for me ;3 Maybe m6 in future ^^ cheers, going to Your gallery right now ;3
Wow wow wow. Joe, this is absolutely ridiculously beautiful. Love your speech. All the images. Wonderful video. Just wonderful.
This is exciting and no better modern day Leica ambassador than Joe.
Every time I found a M6 and had a think about it, it disappeared, I watched the prices climb and climb, in the end I bought a Nikon F3 HP and a Contax G1, film is scarce here, but I feel now the chance to get a new M6 is good. So maybe now is the time. 🥳
I don’t think lack of cameras is the problem you can still find a mint M6 cheaper then the new ones. The problem is film. Would be happier if this video was about Kodak releasing more film stocks and increasing production.
Exactly my thoughts too!
they are but it takes time. price increase means that they are reinvesting into new manufacturing equipment to put out new stocks and hire more employees to see the demand
congrats joe, im so glad things are lining up for you, God has great plans for you. Loved your book!
Hi Joe ~ what kind of flash you're used in this video?
I second this question
Would it be better to buy the mp?
EPIC
