I enjoy a good pet supply haul, lol. But I’m not sure about supporting Shein due to its various controversies.
You don't have to if you don't feel comfortable with it :) Unfortunately it's almost impossible to avoid as most of these pet supplies are the same as the ones manufactured in the same place and sold on amazon / aliexpress / other large scale online websites that have the same workplace and environmental ethics, shein is just the hottest topic one and all the other companies are also just as bad :/

@@Snappedpea "Just give a company that exploits it's workers a break" ok. There are plenty of place irl to get cheap clothes that don't involve supporting companies like this. I'm lower income currently and mainly go to places such as goodwill and senior centers.
In this case she's reviewing pet accessories. Not really a necessity when you're able to literally buy them from established companies or people on Etsy.

I have ordered from shein so many times and never had anything broken during shipping, they are always well packaged. I have a hide mushroom hide from them that matches your boel, sorry yours broke. I love the maze!! I had a board with different things to hide food in for them to forage. Those "wooden things you had to buid yourself, i got a pink and white house in that stuff. U
It was chewed to pieces in 24 hours and within a week i had to throw it away. What do you vanish with thats safe for mice? Oooh, they also have coconut hides that are AWESOME! And you can wash/soak them min water with vinegar or dettol and then rinse or soak in clean water for a bit, then air dry and good as new :)
Love the video!! I sometimes buy stuff for the rats and mice from Shein and Wish too. 😂 They really tend to have many items the local pet shops and Amazon sell too - but the prices are so much better. 😅

ive seen that temu sells dangerous rat traps with photos of dead rats actually on the store so definitely watch out when looking in those categories! it would be a horrible thing to see 😅

My first mouse, a feeder mouse, is about 2 years old now ❤ and living with her fancy mouse friend and will be joined by a new fancy mouse in the near future. She’s getting a bit old for a feeder mouse but still going strong and very active and outgoing :)

Even if the items are decently quality, it doesn't change the fact that SHEIN's working conditions are inhumane and that a lot of their designs and items are stolen from small businesses. There's a documentary called 'The SHEIN Machine' which sends an undercover worker and camera into their factories and exposes just how bad things are, so there's evidence to back up what's being said. The same most likely goes for TEMU, as they operate very similarly to SHEIN. Buying from these companies puts money in the pockets of those who promote inhumane working conditions and can be very damaging to the small businesses they've stolen from. If you want to buy from them, then I can't stop you - just keep in mind exactly what it is that you're supporting by putting money in their pockets.
Yep! But on the flip side buying cheaper clothing and pet products from places like this, AliExpress etc can be the difference between someone’s pet having one item or a few if they’re tight for money. Same for plus sized individuals who can’t afford to shop sustainably to dress their body size, everyone has a choice but for some people due to finances they have less of a choice when it comes to sustainability. Just as with any other big companies like amazon that provides the convenience of not having to leave your house for disabled individuals, they’re awful for the environment and don’t have the best worker ethics. I don’t judge anyone on where they choose to shop or items they may choose to use to get by if they’re in a tight spot 💗
@@EmiologyI know - and I'm actually one of those people as it happens (plus sized and unemployed due to disability). I just think it's important that people are aware of how unethical these brands are so that they can make better choices if they're able to do so. As someone else has said, it's virtually impossible to shop 100% ethically these days so all I can do is limit my spending (or stop spending completely) with brands I know are completely unethical unless I have no other choice. The scary thing is that many brands like to hide exactly how unethical they are 😕
@@Emiology If you don't have money to provide your pet good quality of life, don't buy a pet. If someone doesn't have money to buy things for animals enclosure (and you can do it pretty cheap too and it can still be good) how they are able to take them to the vet? + you cant guarantee that these products are safe for pets to use and chew, google "shein and harmful chemicals" Do you really think the chemical is only in their clothes? Also many product description was "material: wood" so you don't have an idea which type of wood was used. It can be unsafe wood. I'm a plus sized woman and don't have lot of money but I would still rather walk naked than use Shein bc my style is not more important than someones basic human rights. Me, or other plus sized people didn't walk naked before shein. Yeah, it do sucks that it's harder to wear nice clothes when you are size xl or more but I'm pretty sure working at Shein sucks even more. There is options, lot of options. Second hand for example, there is lot of second hand stores in the internet where you can buy clothes as easily as you could from Shein. I truly understand your point in some kind of way but if you look the whole picture, no one needs to shop at Shein.
@@minerva1784 Just to answer your question about taking an animal to the vet if you can't afford other things the animal needs - PDSA is an amazing non-profit veterinary organisation here in the UK that provides low-income families with free or low cost veterinary treatments and medications. Although their appointments are generally around £20, they ask for you to just pay what you can with no judgement. Financial struggles can hit anyone at any time - whilst I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford everything my guinea pigs need and more (largely because of help from my family), PDSA has meant that I'm able to provide my guinea pigs with amazing veterinary care too 🙂
And to add on to your point regarding secondhand clothing - Vinted has been an awesome alternative, as you can buy just about any sized clothing on there for even cheaper than SHEIN. I've not bought anything from there yet as I don't buy clothes very often, but I'll definitely be buying as much as I can from there
@@minerva1784 your first sentence is where it already 'goes wrong'. Some people have the pet already, maybe from a friend or because of a poor decision. Some people just really feel lonely and can't live without a pet. Some people have children and already feel guilty for not being able to give them certain things, and want to make their children happy by letting them take care of a pet.
Even though we'd want to only allow people to have a pet when they're responsible enough, this isn't a realistic scenario. Bad decisions still happen even if you don't want it. And the best thing to do at that point is see how you can at least find some decent enough products with a low budget. Maybe these products aren't the best of the best, they aren't the best fit ever, but they are decent enough.
Emiology is just trying to educate where to find products that are big enough for mice and rats, in order to let them be happy without getting financial problems.

I get hammocks from shien for my rats and other toys and so on but nothing for my dog if you have a larger dog no dog clothes will fit and I find it really sad I buy so much from them if they did but the stuff for my rats like the hammocks and stuff they love them.

Used the paw print stamps before and if you put the whole thing on a clipboard clip the paper and the Stamper you won't get the smudgy marks and the print Will Come Out cleaner

Hello! How big is your cage? In a couple of years I want to get mice but I'm already planning on the stuff I need for it. When I look up mice cages I think they are all too small and I'm thinking of buildning one but I don't know what size would be good. I don't want it to bee the minimum size "allowed", I want it to be big like yours and also deep so they can burrow, however I have a hard time finding good info on this. Since I'm not planning on getting mice for at least two years I def don't need to stress but I think its so fun to plan a really nice cage for them!!

Love your videos! I just got my first mice after growing up with hamsters, and learnt so much by watching all your video's!. Could you maybe make a video of the behaviour of mice (and rats)? I think mine are sometimes doing happy little jumps, but i can't find anything about this behaviour anywhere.
That’s called popcorning and they usually do it when they’re happy or excited about something in their enclosure 😊
That's awesome to hear. Because they were 'fighting' last week. So I started again with a little enclosure with almost nothing in it, and now they have some more room because they were being nice to each other again, and I saw them do the little jumps today.
You mentioned that you shouldn't use sand with mice? Can you expand on that or provide something for me to look into because I have been wanting to put a sand box in with my mice but didn't know if it was ok and I couldn't find anything that says yes or no..... thank you!!
This comment was about a month ago sorry lol, but I reccomend if u want like a dig box or something fun like that, to use cocosoil or Wood chips instead of sand! They'd still have the enrichment and fun from different textures but it's a much safer option. Mice don't need sand like other rodents such as gerbils and hamsters, cause they're not really desert creatures but mainly due to their fragile respitory systems, as sand can be super fine and dusty for them, even the "dust free" stuff. :)

Temu also sell similar products, I've bought multiple items from the bird section. And small animal hammocks for my rats. And U.K postage is free and within 10 days. Their return/ refund policy is also great. As a courier broke one of my items, Temu refunded me within a day.

They look like wood chips, but I need a bit of guidance as I have everything ready for my girls I'm picked up in a month or so & all I'm missing is the bedding. Many thanks!
I’m yet to find a bedding I’m 100% happy with still so I bounce between beddings. This one is bedmax but the pieces are a bit too big so I’ve gone back to snowflake shavings again but the quality seems to vary depending on the bag
Do you know if the wood is safe for hamster???
What type of varnish do you use for your mouse enclosure items that you have to seal? I've been trying to figure out a safe clear varnish or coat to use to seal wood but couldn't really find a solid answer on what to look for or what was "pet-safe" other than something like Mod Podge that's just generally non-toxic to humans and a sealant, however it might be less ideal for something that would have liquid pooling on the surface.
Yacht varnish or plasticote modelling enamel.

Put some rough tile or slate around their water bowl and under water bottles 😊

My rat has to wear a harness if he's out of his cage he has a desise that makes him wobbly. Is that ok, or is that still not ok?
How does the harness help with that?
@Emiology it means if he falls, I have a loop that's attached to his harness. So he doesn't just fall on the floor

Question for those who have Fancy mice, what do you recommend for keeping their nails trim? I won't actually trim their nails because I'm afraid of hurting them I will do my cats no problem, lol But I've heard of rocks that would be good. Any suggestions?
I’ve never had to trim most of fancy mice nails they do a good job at keeping them down but cork logs and rough tiles under their water can help. Only time I’ve had to trim is I’ve had some that have thick deformed thumb nails that naturally curl under
@@Emiology awesome. My husband and I have some logs In the enclosure, just wanted to make sure. We have one mouse that runs all over the place climbs on everything and stuff, and then the other one is just very chunky and I was getting concerned with some of the bed and getting stuck to the back of her feet. We are going to be looking for other fun things for the larger one to climb on to keep the nails trimmed down
I’m worried about the claims of toxic chemicals being found in Shein’s products. I don’t have the biggest budget but my guinea needs a bigger cage and Shein’s prices are hard to beat, but I’m scared with how fragile guinea pigs are that he’ll get sick or even worse if he chews the bars. Idk, if anyone else has some insight on this it would be very appreciated

@@Emiology I know what you mean about handfuls I have a 13 week old cocker spaniel puppy cooper. His main thing at the moment is pulling on lead outside the house like in the house he is fine we have even let him off lead in a local closed in field and he walks perfectly to heel almost all the time

I’m surprised with the quality as I have heard and seen how bad their clothes are. Not surprised by the poor shipping. Would be worth another order if there is more you want to try and they can promise to also resend your broken bowl but in a box this time instead of an envelope!
I think it’s because they’re not producing most of the items and they’re manufactured by other companies instead like bucastate which you can buy on Amazon 🤔
I would never use these for my rodents. As we all know, rodents chew stuff in their enclosure. There have been many cases with Shein clothes having huge amounts of harmful chemicals. So there is a big chance that these stuff have the chemicals too. And you have lof of wooden items in this video. You can't trust shein saying what wood is it, (and the products i looked, they didn't even tell) it's probably cheapest one in the market and there is a really big chance that it's not safe. Even pet stores sell unsafe things so do we really think Shein would be safe? And yes, these things may look like the same ones in amazon etc but you can't forget that shein has a history with stealing designs... You can close your eyes from Sheins disgusting violations against human rights and shein using straight up modern slavery but please think twice atleast for your pets safety.
shein is literally one of the worst brands when it comes to workers rights.. they make a huge waste to the world. i hope you didn't know that. if you did, then be ashamed.
What about other big name companies such as amazon? Do you order from them as most people do? They produce 300 million kg of plastic waste alone and also don’t have the best worker rights in China 😞 same as most high street stores

i understand you have your reasons for buying from shein, but please look up how huge amounts of lead were found in their clothing. there may be similar in the products you've bought. i've been watching your content for ages and showing my friends what you've done for rat care, but i think if shein ever stole your rat merch designs and products you would be singing a different tune instead of doubling down on how shein is as bad as all other forms of unethical capitalism. there is no need to play devil's advocate, there are so many commenters saying they'll buy from shein now because of your specific video and that just feels disheartening.
and in case you decide to ask me if i buy from amazon or own an iphone for some reason, i don't.
For sure, I think it’s an important topic that needs to be talked about and discussed, I only play devils advocate to open it up to the bigger picture. I think it would be pretty hypocritical of me to change my tune and double down on Shein due to it being a hot topic, when I’ve shopped on places like amazon and AliExpress for years without really thinking of the implications of places like those either. Everyone needs to be aware of the issues surrounding larger companies to then make an educated decision as to whether they feel they can justify buying from there or not 😊 personally for me as I can’t afford to shop completely sustainable and avoid anything mass produced, I just make sure I’m not engaging in fast fashion and wear the same few items of clothing on repeat until they fall apart, same with other aspects of my life. I’ve been lucky so far that my designs have only been stolen small scale by someone else in the rat community, but it’s a huge issue in the enamel pin community where you get the manufacturers to create your pins and they then have the mould and resell it via online stores such as AliExpress, wish etc

Why would you support and promote a company you are aware is problematic?
Because some people don’t have the luxury of shopping elsewhere and it’s up to individuals to decide where they’d like to shop. Some plus size individuals don’t have many alternative places to buy more clothes than just a knee length shirt and leggings. I don’t begrudge people who still shop at pets at home for their pet supplies even though they’re also problematic
@@Emiology But don't you also have a small business that sells pet supplies? These big unethical companies put the little guys out of business. And saying that some people can only afford low cost subpar items does not justify what these big companies do to the environment and their workers. This company supports child labour and fills landfills with synthetic fabrics. But you think it's okay to ignore that cause someone can't afford pet supplies? That's really disappointing.
I do, but I also have a RUclips channel and videos like this are common and people may be looking for opinions before purchasing. Of course it doesn’t justify it and I’m not saying those things aren’t awful and shouldn’t be recognised, but especially at the moment being sustainable is a privaledge and impossible for some unfortunately and as much as I would rather someone shops small, if it’s between someone not providing their pets with anything or finding cheaper alternatives I’d hope those animals were still enriched. Just as much as I hope plus sized individuals find clothes they feel comfortable and happy in when there’s very few affordable places for them on the high street

I am aware they are unethical towards their staff but child labour for me hits a whole new level, as a mum of 2 little ones I just find it difficult seeing people enjoy their buys that a young person has slaved to make.

I’m happy for anyone to share their opinions in the comments and that’s why I never delete comments unless it’s something I don’t think young children / viewers should be reading or it’s a direct attack on a certain group of people which I’ve had before 😊 From looking into it unfortunately there has been cases where Amazon have used forced labor or child labor to produce some of their devices, but they also stock a lot of wholesale products that are manufactured in China and there’s often a cross over between items you can purchase on Shein and being able to also buy them from eBay, Amazon, AliExpress etc, I know at least some of the items I bought here are the exact same as ones sold on Amazon from Chinese sellers but for a lower price, it’s quite tricky to avoid or know really where a lot of our mass produced products come from. When you look into it it’s a complete ethical minefield, I respect if some people are able to or want to avoid it as much as possible, but it also leaks into other aspects of life we can’t avoid (some will argue iPhones are an essential) but even things like bricks are known to be made through child labour 🥴

I do however think amazon is quite different to Shein...and ill tell you why....
Shein produce clothing .
Their clothing isnt mass made.
So if you place an order for a short , size 10 then it wont be premade. Some poor bugger will stand there and make it especially for you.
And if the stiching is incorrect or there is a mistake then the that person will lose their days wages.
That person will work sometimes 20 hours a day to make ends meet and feed their family. Amazon dont make to order. They are a market platform.
By all means please watch uncover footage of shein coverage , i believe channel 4 made a documentary around 8 months ago and it was somewhat horrific.
