I was the drum major (field director)to this song back in the 99-00 marching season. The marching show was called Aztec Fire. Due to its Latin theme me and a fellow drum major were outfitted in some very stunning matador uniforms
I was in marching band at Fort Fancouver High School in Vancouver, Washington back in 1983. We had this song as one of our half time show pieces. Our drum majors were Derk Levey and Dean Johnson. Had very fond memories of being part of the Fort Vancouver High School Trapper Regiment, under the direction of James R. Iafratti. Mr. Iafratti went on to do the musical arrangements for both the Sydney Olympics, as well as musical arrangements for the movie Mr. Holland's Opus.
In my high school the band has been playing this every couple years for decades, like since the 60's. Well it's finally my turn to play it and I'm doing the duet part of the trumpet solo, where a second person joins in middle of the solo, I'm that second person. And I'm a junior and the soloists are usually seniors so I'm very excited
Esoana is a great song very similar to this one if I remember right. Saddly its been out of print for many many many years and I cant find a recording.
I like the high G around measure 13. Good improv. The trumpet solo is also cool. We ended up using the Marching Arrangment. Mainly due to the lack of french horn.
I didn't say it was impossible to play above it, I'm just saying I can't play pedal tones well. I'd need a mute or pillow or something infront of my trumpet to play that high.
There's a solo? Cool... er, well not for us anyway. We lost at the Black Walnut Festival to Ripley because they played the whole song. Dunno why we skipped it.
Fingures. I could probably play it though. I looked at it and it didn't seem out of my range. I can reach from low F# (below is pedal tones) to high C (above is pedal tones) which is about the max range for trumpets.
well people who aren't in band don't give a crap about aztec fire! During a half time show all they're conserned about is going to the bathroom and getting hot dog!

Who else gets flashbacks to marching band I ❤️my sax
Im going to play this at the music fest!! Im a trompette player! That will be awesome!!
"Trompette" is that the female version of a trumpet?
Eric Olmsted it sounds like trombone and trumpet mixed together
hydrahd "Ette" means female. A trumpet and trombone would be "trompet"

My school band have this score, but we never play it.... Cause for juniors, it's hard....
And I love this song!!!!!!!!!
@Maddison135 its because in the concert band arrangment the clairenets have the solo but its soli
Weplayed this ong in my Eighth grade symphonic class. I think thaat was the easiest song all year, but we all loved it either way! :D

So you played 5th?
Doing this in spring concert! Go trumpets!
Screw the one person who disliked this.
I’m playing snare drum on this song and when I get bored in class I start jamming out playing this on my knees
I like the high G around measure 13. Good improv. The trumpet solo is also cool. We ended up using the Marching Arrangment. Mainly due to the lack of french horn.
ill message you xD
You are seeing me on the wrnog side. Well I was just saying I know plenty of times I've held it because it was a cool show.
oh man. my marching band blasts the crap out of this song. it sounds so tame in this recording. hahah.
There is a version (the ORIGINAL) from 1982 that is just unbelievable!!
Ok. I'll be a while though I need to do stuff.
I wish I could but the director says no becase we played it 2 years ago when I was in 8th grade in concert band.
@messickc its not a harder one its a concert band arrangement and its actually eaisier
My school does have a copy of Espana I just cant seem to find it
haha we played this in high school.
Azusa Aztecs haha
Azusa High School
gostaria muito dessa música
@bandboy11111 in my school the clarinets (like meee! :) play what is supposed to be the trumpet solo @ 0:46
The one just above the staff? Yeah it's pretty hard to get sometimes. How long have you played? I'm a freshman and I played for a bit over 5 years
I like the concertband one better. He took out some important lines like the low brass 1 measure melody thing at the end for the marching version
@smashfans123 you mean five oaks? play there too
I didn't say it was impossible to play above it, I'm just saying I can't play pedal tones well. I'd need a mute or pillow or something infront of my trumpet to play that high.
yeh. the part yall skipped is the solo :3
I played this when i was in 8th grade. For concert season.
There's a solo? Cool... er, well not for us anyway. We lost at the Black Walnut Festival to Ripley because they played the whole song. Dunno why we skipped it.
i wish my band director let us play songs like this
nvr mind about the whole genetailia thing " im pretty much pro at this song fo sho my bro ho yo
Played this and "Mirada" (trumpet solo on both) in the same year - think it was 1983, but not sure. Wasn't "Mirada" by Jay Bocook as well?
I think its cool. Clarinets hardly ever get solos in marching if ever and Ive seen this solo on Soprano Sax so Id say go for it.
I didnt know it was that bad lol. My siters been able to play the horn part sense the beginning of 7th grade last year.
to slow... just to slow.... pump it up about 3 notices and thats how i love it... But that trumpet solo/ soli gets me every time
Fingures. I could probably play it though. I looked at it and it didn't seem out of my range. I can reach from low F# (below is pedal tones) to high C (above is pedal tones) which is about the max range for trumpets.
Marimba FTW
The marching one has more energy and the trumpit solo actually has emotion Ill give it taht.
A lot!!
😍😍😍
yeah it was really easy
highest note i can play is a (well..we call it super g..) its the g above high c
My band plays this but we skip from 0:42 to 1:24

Ours is so much harder. Pyramids of Egypt. It's amazing though.

I hate this
Miguel Isaac ?
Miguel Isaac now I do
Btw I only hate I because my band class ruined it. I hated playing because I suck at band. Gives me bad memories. Sorry I sounded rude
