I love being in the thumbnail! Marched mello with the Cadets in 2013, 2014, and 2015! Great years! UNBELIEVABLE section in 2015! I will always cherish these years, but especially 2015! ❤️💛
For me it has to be the big ballad hit from SCV 2018. That mello melody lives in my head rent-free, and I don't usually have any DCI anything in my head lol. In terms of craziest runs, the G mello books were totally insane back in the day. Easy example: ruclips.net/video/UE6IEy6e2wo/видео.html but there's all of Star of Indiana's history and Madison '88 just to name a few insane mello books.
I'm guessing it was waaayyy before your time, but you should listen to Garfield Cadets '83. There are two kinds of drum corps shows--before 83 Cadets and after 83 Cadets. It's not as clean or intricate as some of the ones on your list (surely a limitation of the g-bugle), but in the age of "louder, higher, faster" it was the first time I can remember middle horns truly being featured in a show. Everyone tends to talk about the innovative drill design, but for me it was the mellophone book that stood out.
@cano_music I respect the opinion, and while I didn't think it's third, opinions are opinions. My bad, I didn't know that you marched the Mandarins and the show this year was one of my favorites!
Nice picks for the 2000's. If interested, check out Cadets and Star from the late 80's up to 93. George Z. had the 91 mello's up front in the drill for almost the whole show.
There are some fine clips in here, but in general, if you think the ten greatest examples of something (ten best books, ten best movies, ten best hail-mary passes, whatever) can all be found in the past ten years, that's probably a sign that you haven't explored very far. I envy you for your future and presumably ear-opening explorations into drum corps performance.
You should see phantom regiment 2015’s closer, theres a pretty epic mello rip in it, just four guys, doing a high C that just cuts through the whole ensemble
How did you cut off before the sustained mello hit in Vanguard 2018? That was perhaps the single greatest mello moment. You should also go back further. There was a lot of great mellow work in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Fun watch. Thank you.
SCV 18 and Bloo 23 are my top 2. Its impossible to not thing SCV 18 and their closer when I hear my friend (currently auditioning for corps as a mellie) play anything
You need to take some time in the wayback machine. All the way back to the 80's my friend. The hit from the 4 mellophones that buries the rest of the horns near the end of 89 SCV. The cavvies lines of the late 80's with the rips. Double C's from the mello's a the end of the opener in 92 SCV. The G mellophone was TWICE the horn the new F mello's are. WAY more range and much more distinctive cutting sound.
While I totally get that this is a subjective list, perhaps changing the title to My Top 10 DCI Mellophone Moments 2010 - Present. Here's an example from Star 1991 - ruclips.net/video/4greIjgmbAk/видео.htmlsi=u2OMQrsGDhSujDrV&t=263
Alternate title: “My favorite mello licks in the past decade heavily skewed to the past 3 years.” Do yourself a favor and watch DCI before Lucas Oil. I suspect you haven’t seen anything before ‘14 because Crown isn’t mentioned. 1980’s Cadets too.
i love how this ignores the mello wars of the early 90's between star and cadets or the late 80's cavies or 82 cadets...... I'm not posting about old vs. new but my friend ..... do some research. Even mid 80's Scouts beats most of this.
Watch vanguard 2017, the entire show is pretty much a mello feature lol
2018 too
My band director marched scv ‘17 and was lead mello🔥🔥🔥
@@Arfan_Hossainsick
hi person i definitely don't know
Tied with BAC '17 as my favorite show of all time. 2017 was such a good season in general
I love being in the thumbnail! Marched mello with the Cadets in 2013, 2014, and 2015! Great years! UNBELIEVABLE section in 2015! I will always cherish these years, but especially 2015! ❤️💛
That’s awesome! 15 cadets is one of my favorite brass books of all time!
The Crown 12/13 lick gets me every time
And technically ‘23!
also in 2021
They put that in so many shows I love it. I wonder if there’s any significance behind it?
As a euphonium, I ADORE the sound of mellophones. I love how they can have emotion at the same time as playing as loud as they can.
Trombone here, and I feel the same way.
2024 Phantom Regiment has entered the chat and demands an edit. 24 mellos, 6 feet from the 1st row, max air ……. You can feel it in your chest.
I was in the second row on prelims it was insane
The park-n-bark part of Spin Cycle (Cavs '03) was legendary. Other corps would stick around after every performance just to hear that mello lick.
When in the show is that
@@thebundinator9243 At about the 8:50 mark.
I was on tour with spirit in 03 .. diamond drill park and bark mellos were loudest moment of all groups that year in cavaliers show
@@gwreevesReeves /By 8:50 it's almost over. Start around 8:36.
@@dankelly1426I think different uploads had different starting points. It's possible the version you watched had 15 seconds of intro truncated.
The scv 2018 clip should have included the final mello sustain lol. Nice list though
imma be real I lowkey disagree, all it is is a sustain and sure it sounds good but I think there are better moments imo
@@cano_musicthat hit was the single greatest moment of the entire 2018 season IMO.
@@cano_musicyou’re an L man. Mandis 2019 and cadets 2015 mello feature over 2018 scv is criminal
Cadets 1993, Crown 2012 and best of all Star of Indiana 1991!
5:25 cloud was a paid actor 😂

mandarins 2018 will always be my fav show
This entire list could be vangaurd and no one would disagree. Unreal
You should check out blue knights 2015 closer as well as phantom 2003's canon hits in opener and closer
Bluecoats 2023 has some insane mello parts
I believe it was the Blue Devils, or maybe the Phantom Regiment, but in 1976 there was a mellophone duet opener for Chase The Clouds Away.
The Mother of All Mello Runs:
1991 Star of Indiana
That show was a master class in Mellophone artistry. Star wrote the textbook
Blue stars 2023 is one of my personal favorites!

I'm sorry, but the SCV '18 lick will always have my heart.
Spirit of atlanta had a crazy melos this year
As a mello player I agree. A slap in the face
Glad to see Cadets 2015 get some recognition. They won the Ott for a reason, absolutely monstrous hornline
Check out the PR 1996 mello lick
Will do!
You cut off Felliniesque before the best Mello moment of the whole show
Phantom Regiment 2003, some interesting Mello parts in there... anyway, the video is great!
Blue Stars 2010 opener tho
And 2017!
Almost all of SCV 2018 was a mello feature 😅 my first dci show… troopers 2023 was my first in person
How is scv 2018 mello feature ranked that far down
hey these are my opinions and I’m totally not biased after marching mandarins

@raymondchurchill9133 hell yeah dude! Vanguard 18 was definitely a legendary show
I’d like to put 2017 Blue Stars into the running for this! So much good mello writing in that show
1998 Cadets was essentially an 11-minute-long mello feature.
Cadets consistently have the best mellos going all the way back to 1983 with Barbara Maroney.
Wait until you discover 1987 Cadets.
Madison scouts 1988 closer though, mellos are ROARIN

Not even in the comments, no one is talking about Phantom 08 -- the legendary Spartacus!
Ok I’m actually mad that Bluecoats 2011 creep isn’t on this list.
Very good show
