I've a Victorian style home, and I have decorated each room to reflect the different eras the house has been here. I will say, howsoever, that MCM furniture (sofas, especially) are NOT comfortable. Nope. I would rather sit on my "country cottage" loveseat in my bedroom lounge than on those expensive, albeit extremely stylish MCM sofas in my living room. Ugh. Back killers. Difficult to curl up with a book comfortably.
@@londastreeter7269 I love it too, but only if I'm sitting across the room in a comfy chair. The sofas are not comfy to lounge and read a book on. Seriously.
After living in our home for a number of years and wondering why my decor never gelled, I realized we were living in a mid century post and beam ranch (1954), clerestory windows and all. Once I recognized that and started to design accordingly things started to come together. Used to buy based on what I liked. Now I buy with what we already have, color wise, and the era of the house in mind. Most all rooms are mid century, but couldn't give up my 1920s bedroom. I've learned a lot from your videos.
Love that wig and the pearls on you! MAD, Baby! Mad! My first home bought in the late 1990s was built in 1950, but at the time it was difficult to find quality remakes or originals. It was not trendy and so I opted to do more of a cottage style interior. Kitchen was original, but appliances died within a few months and they were not replaceable due to size measurements and built in cabinets, so kitchen was remodeled shortly after purchase. The trend to reimagine mid century did not begin until after I had sold the home, sadly.
I live in Sarasota, Florida where MCM began and never went out thanks to all the preserved architectural homes and its school of design...we have yearly open house tours here and they are fabulous- you get to see some real jewels!
I brought my South Florida MCM style and palms to Houston. They don't get it here. Seems all I am doing is "too much" however I'm just sipping my Gimlet but the pool and watching Palm Royale in all my REALness.
I've seen this before... A re-release? Well it was very helpful for me at the time to see the different mid-century styles through the years as I designed my mid-century modern inspired home!
I had dresses like those! We're a pair of retired boomers, in the process of redecorating our bedroom in mid century style (pre groovy lol). Returning to our comfort food of furniture. We have great cathedral ceilings and I'm really happy about no curtains. I hate curtains. Thank you for an on point and fun video! Nicely done.
I love MCM very much. Last year their was a huge and gorgeous home that came up for sale but was in a state of renovation that the owners gave up on. While we were looking into how to finance it someone paid cash. A year later we ended up buying a house right across the street from it and it had sold a few months prior w/ a profit of $410,000. They even got 10k over their listing price. It's AMAZING!
Love Mid Century! Give me some shaggy carpet (not in the bathroom or kitchen, please), a sunken living room, tons of glass and wood, exposed concrete and wood panels! I feel you made a very similar video to this one last year or so? I don't mind, of course. You can release a mid century modern themed video every week and I'll surely enjoy it 😁 With the Barbie movie I thought we'd be all moving towards an 80's revival. Funny it didn't happen (yet).
Me, being a lamp watcher, noticed the single hanging lamp over Don’s fireplace in Manhattan is the same lamp featured in an episode of Bewitched where original mad man Darren Stevens is awoken by a phone call in a swanky hotel with those same lamps flanking the bed.
I am a 4 th generation Miamian, 6 th generation Floridian. Grew up in mid century home, my mother was the Queen of mid century. I live in a mid century home now and this is my favorite period bcs there is almost nothing you cant mix with it there are so many classics! Even modern Or classic French and Italian add so much interests. Do NOT over do it or it will look like the Jetsons moved in. Remember in mid century also included mediterranian and Hollywood Tegency. The real pieces are very expensive and hard to find. My dining room has 6 real Knoll chairs but an 80s glass top table with a giant Corinthian Column base. Dont forget the bar cart! I have 2 Barcelona chairs and in my kitchen a tulip table and 4 chairs reproduction! BTW I used white plantation shutters! Love it❤️
There’s a really charming French TV series (I believe it’s still on Netflix) called “A Very Secret Service” (« Au service de la France »). Between seasons there’s a time gap, and you can see the difference in style, from all brown wood, to creams and cool colours. I love it when movies and TV shows are faithful to the design of the times; it just makes the whole atmosphere more immersive!
The hubs and I bought an MCM in 1997, before the current trend really took off. We lived in it for 24 years, raised our family there and sold the house in 2021. Now we live in an architect designed house in a modern style called Gable Modern. MCM homes can be a challenge to renovate, the classic elements such as huge walls of window glass, can be very expensive to replace. So be prepared for that if the house is actually MCM. Also, these homes tell you how to decorate, let's just say that Transitional style will most definitely not look great in an MCM home. A good rule of thumb is to keep the design lines low and horizontal - like hip hop dance, as opposed to vertical dance like ballet, e.g. no tall beds with thick mattresses and towering headboards and tons of pillows, rather go with low platform beds that have no box spring. On a platform bed in an MCM room it looks really great to tightly wrap the bed linens under the mattress. No bedspread, just a waffle knit blanket tucked under the mattress and maybe another blanket folded at the foot of the bed. No more than 4 pillows. Another tip, and Lisa notes this, is to really decide where your taste lies in the MCM continuum. Don't mix the atomic look with the Mad Men look.
I like MCM but I live in a 1999 built suburban metro home. I thought I should decorate traditional or transitional so much of my home is not the MCM way. In my kitchen, I have an original 1950s red formica table with leaves that is so very practical and functional. I have a red sofa and loveseat in the adjacent family room with an MCM inspired area rug. I want to remodel my kitchen with flat slab walnut veneered cabinets. My case furniture wood will complement the walnut. I'm researching the cost now.
When furnishing a space, do the decade specific designs you mentioned marry well together? For example, a Platner side table and arco lamp from the 60s together with a sputnik chandelier and Eames chair from the 50s? Clash or harmony?
Adore your enthusiasm ( and new hair ) love mid century but with a bit of a twist, love, love emerald green velvet couches...I could go on but why?...stay groovy, passionate and fun as always...go to see that fun movie...thanks
Interesting look back in history my home but I inherited was built back in the 1950s late early 1960s. It was a rent house as I was growing up and of course my mother and daddy put that wood paneling on the damn walls lol it’s just a little over 1100 ft.² three bedroom one and a half bath, living room, kitchen, dining area and a pantry room or laundry room sorry. I am not trying to go back to that age or era I’m trying to come out of it and change my 1950s/60s home into more of a modern day coastal sheet/farmhouse type vibe! But not do a total makeover I’m doing more of a refresh or a refacing. Any suggestions? My biggest dilemma is I’m Laney more towards the blues and whites in the coastal colors. I’m not real crazy about the greens, but the color palette so that all of my house is cohesive with each other. You have the history that you bring with it as always thanks Lisa. Have a good day.
Most people who built mcm houses didn't decorate them with what we consider mcm. Half their stuff was inherited and they didn't throw stuff away. These were depression era kids who grew up and didn't waste money.
Do you remember the Spanish themed furniture of the late 1960s and early 70s? Was it only a style in California or desert states? It was really popular at the time.
I love mid century architecture but not the decor. My dream home is modern with mid century inspired elements but organic modern transitional furniture styling. I want the interior to feel inviting with cozy furniture. Such an oxymoron I know.
Your channel is amazing. Very cool topics with absolutely the best editing and images. Always on point and relevant plus, you are sexy and cute as hell. More than entertainment, next level education. A true professional and we all know that that flip was essential today. Well done!
MCM will never go out of style just like all white kitchens they want them to go but it is not working. Traditional, MCM and any type of cozy vibe will never go out of style. Gray yes it is going out of style but I say do what you like and who cares about trends.
That's not really for me. I prefer Orkcore home design. The look is dominated by red, grey, and brown. Brown leather and brown wood. Grey concrete, grey iron, occasionally grey stained wood(I've found that Aged Barrel Mw283 is the best shade of wood stain for this). Red leather, sedona red stained wood, a bit of red trim, red painted roof. Dark ages war/hunting weapons as decorations. Hide rugs. Raw materials and recycled materials. Exposed industrial elements such as large bolts where practical. Pointiness added everywhere it can be done safely, such as pyramid tacks & pointy plants.

I love it. I work at Scandinavian Designs. We have so much mid century.

I love this video, can you do another video like this, but where to find dupes for people on a budget, & where to find the large art work please!
Yes!!!

Very entertaining video! Takes me back to my childhood home!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't think mid century style went away. I see them everywhere especially in Palm Springs, CA.
I love the way you modified your look for the video!
Glad you like it!
I loved your style and the explanations … I can tell you left you sunglasses behind you on tge black box
Great video Lisa!

Got a bit of Fran Drescher/ Peg Bundy going on with that wig :)
Groooooooooovy!
Oh, boy! Loads of yummy looks! I love MCM furniture and homes so much.
Me too!!
LOL! This vid was fun--love the look, Lisa!

Fabulous! ❤
How gorgeous you looked in
the Mad Men style.. exquisite 💥
Wow! I needed that!
Luv this look so much! I would kill for a MCM Home(preferably in Palm Springs). Prefer ‘50s period because it was so clean and minimal ❤❤
This is very intelligent and resourceful content, Lisa. Great job as always! 💯
Glad it was helpful!
Love love love this!!!!! Thank you! ❤❤❤
You are so welcome! thanks for subbing!
LOVE the color of that wig on you!
As always, fab video!!!
You're the best! Luv you hon...can't wait to see you!!!!
Great music at the end

Very cool!
@Mandolin523
lol- love it 😂😎🍸
“I hadn’t realized it had gone out. I still see it everywhere,” she commented from the depths of her Eames chair.
In my mind it's timeless, so it's just getting a boost right now! YAY!
I've seen this before... A re-release? Well it was very helpful for me at the time to see the different mid-century styles through the years as I designed my mid-century modern inspired home!
I've seen it twice before lol. Still cool seeing Lisa grooving out anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Glad it was helpful!
😁 I would feel like I was living in a movie. (I always like the architecture.)
Arco Lamp is on my list now thank u

Loved the cool beginning of this video!!!❤
Glad you liked it!! My editor is THE BEST

Ohhh the lamps!!!

Due to time, I'll have to come back later and finish watching, but well done, and I'm digging that red hair on you...real groovy. 👍🏻
Still one of my favorite design styles.

IT was for you!!!! xoL
You are SO cute in that look.
I am finally coming back into fashion lol

I totally agree!
Red becomes,you !!!!!
Elements of MCM will always be in style like using metal, wood, and clean lines because those things will always be timeless and elegant.
Roy Lichtenstein is the name of the pop artist you're looking for!
Also noticed echos of Frank Stella and Franz Kline on the walls. Love AE and 60s art.
Great job, now do Directoire Period!
Oooh, good idea!!!

Oh thank you!
Hum, I have been doing MCM again for about the last 10 or 12 years. Maybe I should run out and get a lotto ticket because obviously I’m psychic! 🤣🤣🤣
Been there done that, do not want to do it again.
But l did love the art
It's always been my style my whole life and I'm finally moving forward as its being less original.
Cool

Is this a repeat? I seem to recall the wig and pearls.
Thank you... I was thinking the same thing because I remember her talking about the "Down with Love" movie before.
Yes, it was time to reprise a great design style explanation.....hope you enjoyed it!
You look natural as red head

Diamonds? Those are dice.
Diamond shaped dice 😊
Another designer just stated mid-century design is out as well as gray color!
MCM will never go out of style just like all white kitchens they want them to go but it is not working. Traditional, MCM and any type of cozy vibe will never go out of style.

I thought it was ugly when I was a kid.
Had mid century when I first married, tired of it very fast. Would never go back.
Ahh design flavor of the month 🙄
Yuk! Not my style, not in my home anyway.
To me these are just tasteless antiques that should stay in the past!
to each their own
✨🙏🇦🇺🙏✨
A long selection of horrific colors and shapes. Sigh!
I do like the red wig; looks good on you.
I grew up then and I absolutely HATE mcm.
So really what you are saying is that boomer style is coming back! lol!
Lol!
I don’t like either decade decor.
