I've a Victorian style home, and I have decorated each room to reflect the different eras the house has been here. I will say, howsoever, that MCM furniture (sofas, especially) are NOT comfortable. Nope. I would rather sit on my "country cottage" loveseat in my bedroom lounge than on those expensive, albeit extremely stylish MCM sofas in my living room. Ugh. Back killers. Difficult to curl up with a book comfortably.

@@londastreeter7269 I love it too, but only if I'm sitting across the room in a comfy chair. The sofas are not comfy to lounge and read a book on. Seriously.

After living in our home for a number of years and wondering why my decor never gelled, I realized we were living in a mid century post and beam ranch (1954), clerestory windows and all. Once I recognized that and started to design accordingly things started to come together. Used to buy based on what I liked. Now I buy with what we already have, color wise, and the era of the house in mind. Most all rooms are mid century, but couldn't give up my 1920s bedroom. I've learned a lot from your videos.

Love that wig and the pearls on you! MAD, Baby! Mad! My first home bought in the late 1990s was built in 1950, but at the time it was difficult to find quality remakes or originals. It was not trendy and so I opted to do more of a cottage style interior. Kitchen was original, but appliances died within a few months and they were not replaceable due to size measurements and built in cabinets, so kitchen was remodeled shortly after purchase. The trend to reimagine mid century did not begin until after I had sold the home, sadly.

Me, being a lamp watcher, noticed the single hanging lamp over Don’s fireplace in Manhattan is the same lamp featured in an episode of Bewitched where original mad man Darren Stevens is awoken by a phone call in a swanky hotel with those same lamps flanking the bed.

I am a 4 th generation Miamian, 6 th generation Floridian. Grew up in mid century home, my mother was the Queen of mid century. I live in a mid century home now and this is my favorite period bcs there is almost nothing you cant mix with it there are so many classics! Even modern Or classic French and Italian add so much interests. Do NOT over do it or it will look like the Jetsons moved in. Remember in mid century also included mediterranian and Hollywood Tegency. The real pieces are very expensive and hard to find. My dining room has 6 real Knoll chairs but an 80s glass top table with a giant Corinthian Column base. Dont forget the bar cart! I have 2 Barcelona chairs and in my kitchen a tulip table and 4 chairs reproduction! BTW I used white plantation shutters! Love it❤️

I love MCM very much. Last year their was a huge and gorgeous home that came up for sale but was in a state of renovation that the owners gave up on. While we were looking into how to finance it someone paid cash. A year later we ended up buying a house right across the street from it and it had sold a few months prior w/ a profit of $410,000. They even got 10k over their listing price. It's AMAZING!

Love Mid Century! Give me some shaggy carpet (not in the bathroom or kitchen, please), a sunken living room, tons of glass and wood, exposed concrete and wood panels! I feel you made a very similar video to this one last year or so? I don't mind, of course. You can release a mid century modern themed video every week and I'll surely enjoy it 😁
With the Barbie movie I thought we'd be all moving towards an 80's revival. Funny it didn't happen (yet).

I like MCM but I live in a 1999 built suburban metro home. I thought I should decorate traditional or transitional so much of my home is not the MCM way. In my kitchen, I have an original 1950s red formica table with leaves that is so very practical and functional. I have a red sofa and loveseat in the adjacent family room with an MCM inspired area rug. I want to remodel my kitchen with flat slab walnut veneered cabinets. My case furniture wood will complement the walnut. I'm researching the cost now.

The hubs and I bought an MCM in 1997, before the current trend really took off. We lived in it for 24 years, raised our family there and sold the house in 2021. Now we live in an architect designed house in a modern style called Gable Modern. MCM homes can be a challenge to renovate, the classic elements such as huge walls of window glass, can be very expensive to replace. So be prepared for that if the house is actually MCM. Also, these homes tell you how to decorate, let's just say that Transitional style will most definitely not look great in an MCM home. A good rule of thumb is to keep the design lines low and horizontal - like hip hop dance, as opposed to vertical dance like ballet, e.g. no tall beds with thick mattresses and towering headboards and tons of pillows, rather go with low platform beds that have no box spring. On a platform bed in an MCM room it looks really great to tightly wrap the bed linens under the mattress. No bedspread, just a waffle knit blanket tucked under the mattress and maybe another blanket folded at the foot of the bed. No more than 4 pillows. Another tip, and Lisa notes this, is to really decide where your taste lies in the MCM continuum. Don't mix the atomic look with the Mad Men look.

There’s a really charming French TV series (I believe it’s still on Netflix) called “A Very Secret Service” (« Au service de la France »). Between seasons there’s a time gap, and you can see the difference in style, from all brown wood, to creams and cool colours. I love it when movies and TV shows are faithful to the design of the times; it just makes the whole atmosphere more immersive!

Interesting look back in history my home but I inherited was built back in the 1950s late early 1960s. It was a rent house as I was growing up and of course my mother and daddy put that wood paneling on the damn walls lol it’s just a little over 1100 ft.² three bedroom one and a half bath, living room, kitchen, dining area and a pantry room or laundry room sorry. I am not trying to go back to that age or era I’m trying to come out of it and change my 1950s/60s home into more of a modern day coastal sheet/farmhouse type vibe! But not do a total makeover I’m doing more of a refresh or a refacing. Any suggestions? My biggest dilemma is I’m Laney more towards the blues and whites in the coastal colors. I’m not real crazy about the greens, but the color palette so that all of my house is cohesive with each other. You have the history that you bring with it as always thanks Lisa. Have a good day.
