This is my personal Favourite WT song. its just so powerfully written and beautifully sung!. it's a truly amazing track that touches so many peoples lives on a day to day basis!!. Domestic/sexual abuse within homes is at shocking levels. it makes me cry every time i hear it because of the story that's being told!!
This video just makes me want to cry, but it's hits too close to home...
This video is against domestic violence, that's why i love it so much!
All of their songs have such deep meanings and their videos are great.

sharon delivers the smack down with her voice in every song she sings. it goes beyond the emotions she emits while feeling the song, beyond the acuracy and vocal range she lords over. she is a true master of sound. i bet 20 dollars she could sillence birds that are near her. in ancient times she would be worshipped as a godess. oh, and the way she dresses. i have to say she is damn hawt and easy on the eyes. what a queen should look like.
God, she puts so much emotion into her singing it's really hard not to cry on a song like this in particular.

I think the video implies that the abuse has been ongoing and awful, but up to the video, it had only been that way for the mother. The mother, like many at the time, stayed with an abusive man because 1. she wanted to protect her daughter from him 2. she didn't want to leave her daughter without a mother (fathers almost always got custody back at this time). Once the abuse spreads to her daughter, however, her maternal instinct would not allow the abuse to continue. She was fine when he was hitting her, but if you hit her child, she becomes intent on killing him to end his tyranny.
blackmumba111 I don't think it was hitting that he was doing to the daughter... but a different kind of abuse that was also very common back then.

yeah i'd say the father was a pedophile who sexually abused his daughter, its horrible to actually realize these kind of things still happen in the modern society on daily basis.

Value? It's not a value, it's the message. Those who have been in the place of that little girl in their lives know very well that the best way to describe your feelings at that moment and throughout your entire life after is just that - frozen. To me, its a shame and guilt that a girl would go through as a result of what happened.
I can see this also being POV of the mother "doing what's right".
I love her music! Definitely the best band to listen to when you're trying to write.
Wow this video just made me think of this song in a whole new way. Within Temptation never ceases to amaze. They create some of the most powerful messages and imagery through their lyrics. And, well, it does not hurt that Sharon has the most powerful vocals of almost anybody I have ever heard.

Anyone else recognize the mothers eyes change from blue to black at the end of the music video? As to show us how she transitions from caring, scared mother to still caring but now emotionless mother.
I can't say how much I love this song. I love the music, the vocals, the lyrics and a like that she picked an unusual topic which gives the song depth.
I kinda like the idea that someone does something horrible and takes the blame to save someone else from a terrible fate.
Of course you may argue that it was still horrible and by no means justified, but there were enough family tragedies where no other way seemed possible.

Haim Goobi A classmate of mine got harrassed by a drunken guy. Her father tried to talk sense to him, but got knocked over. Guess who put the drunken guy back in his place. She was 160cm, lean and in her mid 40s... She had a real bad relation to her husband, but she would have murdered or died for her family.
I agree. I think the mother did the best she could given the horrible circumstances. Pretty much her hands were tied. Killing is not justified unless it's in defense or to protect and she was protecting her daughter and defending herself as well because he attacked both of them. As a mother though I wouldve taken that door off the hinges or axed it down to get him off my child. People react differently in scary situations. Fight (which she did later)or flight(overlooking it and burying her head in the sand). Some are afraid to see and it's sad because then the child pays in the end.

I've had this song for YEARS, this is the 1st time i've seen the video and DAMN!
I discovered WT back in 2009. I remembered travelling by train and looking outside rainy landscapes agonizing about how my life will evolve. Back there18 years old on the outset of life battling depression and wanting to live so many things. Life is complicate and weird, but these songs of WT are reminiscent of this sweet bitterness and dreams neither achieved nor not.

This song cut me so deep, and seeing all of the comments, while it makes me feel less alone, it also makes me feel so sad... When I was little, my brother and I were molested by our older cousin. My mother had always told us, "If anyone does anything to you, I'll kill them." Well, he only got a fucking spanking. (He was twelve. What the Hell kind of sick twelve year old does that?) Her and my dad had divorced when I was about three or four. Shockingly enough, I still remember them together. But, my dad ended up becoming an alcoholic, and my mother ended up becoming mentally abusive to compensate for her own feelings of self worth, or lack there of. She married a man who was equally, or even more mentally abusive. With all of that, I'm shocked that my dad was the one who ended up sexually assaulting me in the end and not that douche, Brian.
And I used to be so cold and apathetic to the world. I wasn't allowed to even play outside, talk to most people.. Nothing. My whole life until high school was a sort of silent insanity where I was forced to believe that family is the only thing you have in life.
Abuse, whether it is mentally, sexually, or emotionally, is so wrong and fucked up. Whether you are drunk or sober or just insane, it is not justified. You always have a choice. Always. Never forget that, lest it end your humanity all together.

I was actually molested when I was 5 by my cousin who was also 12...he made his younger brother who was 8 also abuse me... I completely agree with what you said about how a 12 year old could do something so sadistic to a little kid, never mind an adult doing it... Ever since it happened I’ve been really fucked up in so many different ways it’s insane. I’ve been sexually harassed and abused endless times since then and as I’m getting older I have been realizing more and more that certain things in my past that happened to me was sexual abuse when at the time I didn’t see it as that. I am so sorry to hear your story as well and really hope for the best for you. This song and video has such a special place in my heart always and never fails to make me cry when I watch it...

How can people think that this is from or "reminds" them of Disney's Frozen? THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER! Just because they share a title does not make them relate. Look at the subject matter and release dates people.
They don't have anything to do with each other, but the sound of this song goes SO well with the scenes from Frozen - the movie. Someone's even made a fanvid, it is beautiful. If you listen to the song carefully, it doesn't really mention *what* the issue is, just someone in deep despair - which is what the main character in Frozen feels. The meaning of Frozen has been played upon. While WT originally meant coldhearted, if you take it literally to mean 'frozen', it makes sense with the Disney movie.
They don't technically relate to each other but the song fits Elsa quite well.
There is also a band called Delain that has a song called Frozen, that also has nothing to do with the Disney one.
It's like when people thought that Nightwish's "Nemo" was about the fish

i was 15 years old when i listened to this song ! i'm almost 31 now and just re-listened to it! it was one of my favorite songs!! this feels soooooo strange how time flies and so many years can pass by but a single track can make your whole body shiver! thank you within temptation for making me listen to greatness over and over again!

This song and video has always made me cry...poor little girl...so innocent and gets raped by her father...it's incredibly terrible when things like this happens...any type of domestic abuse is horrible...and since this was set to many yrs ago, women didn't have their rights for much...the man was the boss of everything...sad but beautiful song...
