    I'm a nerd and a purist. I specifically wanted a 92 because it was the last year they were allowed to race. I also bought one that came from Yokohama. I found the original owner of the car, who told me that he drove it on both Q-Chan and the Bayside run. It's a white series 2, so only about 1800 of those were made. I built it originally to 630hp (using the stock low-mount twins configuration) because that's how much the Group A cars had to start with. Later I turned it up to 2.0 bar for about 750whp. I then roll-raced an R35 up to 170mph (down in Mexico) and we were side by side the whole time. The car is amazing and even grips like crazy on wet pavement with 255's square. Yes, all successive models after the R32 are better, but even a Series 2 R32 is still one extremely impressive machine, and I like that it's very mechanical still, so has a very raw feel, unlike a lot of modern supercars I've driven that feel very disconnected from the road. Honestly, I think the RB26 series of cars are near perfection, and the RB can be built to stupid HP that at least in a straight line can keep up with most average R35s (except the 2000+hp monsters we have here in Colo).
    Edit: I purchased the car with 20k original miles on it for 28k. I put another 22k into it for parts and labor for the build. It has a full track suspension setup and Nismo wheels with solid tires for racing, so it still might not carve corners as fast as an R35, but I only have a total of about 55k in it vs a LOT more for a bone-stock R35. It really boils down to what you want to experience in your ownership.

    R34 = Collectors primary objective to Stash them , If anybody buys them they would not use them, replacement parts are hard to get and expensive, the Network for R34 is not like the SR20DET, People will be scared to show them off because of thieves
    R35 = Usable, Parts are still expensive but easier to get compare to the R34, If your a DIY'er the R35 won't be that intimidated by maintenance and wrenching under the hood.
    I believe the insurance will be more for the R34

    You said it, Craig - it's an emotional purchase. However, I was never exposed to that car growing up, and I've only recently (in my mid 20's) become a mega fan boy of the R34. I think if you know enough about the car, its history, its character, and appreciate the timeless aesthetics of the car, plus its performance potential, you can very quickly fall in love with it without an ounce of nostalgia.

    I’m only a bit younger than you Craig, and I had the opportunity to drive r32/33/34’s and supras during the early 2000’s here in Australia. They’re all great cars but the dollars that the west is paying for them at the moment is simply stupid. They were undeniably quick for their time, but the nineties were not the sixties and seventies when everyone was making go fast cars. And in comparison to today’s options, they are adequately powered when modified.
    But the two things that nobody ever talks about, specifically the gtr’s, is Nissan interior quality was terrible, and the gtr is such a highly strung car, it’s absolutely always breaking stuff. It’s quite possibly the least reliable car Nissan made world wide during the nineties.

    • @gav240z
      @gav240z 3 года назад +6

      I think the 90s was the Golden era of tech and turbos especially Japanese hero cars that it kind of mirrored the 60s Muscle cars but instead of cubes it was turbos.
      All those 90s cars had poor plastics, my FD in particular shits me in terms of interior quality.
      My Nissan Stagea (260rs) was a lot better, but it was also a higher priced car. R34s were far better than R32/R33 interiors however. The R32 interiors are fairly bad.

    • @nathan2483
      @nathan2483 3 года назад +1

      @@gav240z I’ll cop that to a degree, but essentially r33 and r34 are running maxima interiors. And I wouldn’t say that’s good. Other than the seats, there’s literally nothing special about gtr interiors (besides the r34 screen that’s always broken)

    • @gav240z
      @gav240z 3 года назад

      @@nathan2483 it's not European quality that's for sure. But values are not really about interior quality, it's about hero status cars as you know.

      @@gav240z but when you’re paying euro exotic money (at 400k aud that’s pretty deep in exotic territory) then these are the things that matter. At 250k you have gallardo superleggera, at 300k you have 599’s, at 400k you have mercielago’s and 675lt’s. This is a real problem for the gtr and supra.
      I agree with your statement, but how many people will pay that head vs heart price? And how many will actually have the wallet to cover the cost.

I bought a Grade 4 2001 coupe from the auction a couple of years ago for a hair under 4K now the same time examples are going for almost 30k for a NA auto! And turbo ER34s are rapidly approaching 50k.
