The other holes in your filter cutter is for smaller filters, believe it or not my 15 year old daughter noticed that when I wanted to cut a Corolla filter open and I said it’s too small for “I have the same cutter you have” she said just move the bearings to those other holes. I felt really dumb, she knows nothing about cars and I have been working on the for 35 years, you never know who is going to teach you a thing or two. Congratulations on the new 5.0
Dex, I had a 4.7 stroker and that thing was out of this world! I guess it had 360 foot pounds of torque. I could get my Jeep to pop, wheelies and ride them out. 😂. Revved up instantly, and then revved right back down to idle within a split second kind of like a street bike. And at idle, it sounded like a 350 cam out! It had a Borla exhaust. I bought it from an army guy in Virginia and towed it back to Connecticut. From what I was told it was a trail guide jeep from paragon State Park in Pennsylvania or something. Definitely the coolest out of the 5 xj/zj’s I’ve owned and still love them!! Love the content my friend!! The best I’d say!!
Honestly that thing is one of the better junk yard transport vehicles I’ve seen. I once road in a sedan with no rear end. So just 2 tires and the back just slid on the ground. And it had no doors. And he filled the tank with a 5 gallon bucket. Gas was all over the back of the car haha.
Love the Jeep content and definitely have learned a lot since I found your page.. I know I would also appreciate some bouncer content as well.. I just enjoy it all reall learning, xjs, dirt bikes, four wheelers, bouncers, side by sides…either way keep up the good work sir appreciate everything ya post
Iridium plugs have more resistance similar to a old style filament light bulb, it may run but it works the coil harder and at higher rpm it may not provide enough energy to get a full burn and sometimes it burns them out quicker, i do enjoy the vids keep em coming they are fun cheers
@@cantsneedgaming4591 definitely not a power house and not very fuel efficient. But with the 5 SPD it pulls my jeep or my Colorado no problem. Its a great running engine and very easy and cheap to keep going
If u used nonadjustable rollers they are supost to sound like an old sewing machine. That is what Zack at 505 Performance told me about my 4.9 stroker.
This video was awesome. Thank you for sharing. One thing to share, watching the motor oil geeks, and project farms channels has let me in on a couple things. #1 regular motor oil is just fine for the break in. #2 Rotella t4 15-40 in the 5 gallon jug is nearly just as cheap as the rural king 10-30 5 gallon bulk oil, and it has all of the zdp you could want without adding expensive smaller bottles of additives. Save money, use the t4.:) i love your channel. Real proof that you only need what you need between breakdowns. Thank you!
I can say from experience that header makes a difference in sounds compared to a traditional tri y. I used a similar 6-1 header and cut the collector back till it would fit a 3" vband, that made a huge difference.
Ive built thousands of engines over the years and have never not been a nervous wreck on that first start up. Never had an issue but theres a first time for everything. It makes it worse when im working on engines that can cost up in the hundreds of thousands of dollar range as well. lol.
And a little bit of sheen from ring material coming off as the rings seat in the bores is what you’re seeing, and is perfectly normal. It’s NOT babbit/ bearing material.
Your flexplate spacer could just backwards I've ran into that issue before and one way it lines up just fine when flipping it over every hole is a 16th off
I bought a tool for measuring pushrods it's just like an adjustable pushrod you stick in there and I used it for measuring pushrods with harland sharp rockers on one of my 4.0s instead of using the measurements on the rod I used a digital caliper a bigger digital caliper than your standard size one but I used that to measure everything that felt easier. You can get magnum pushrods for these if you have enough clearance in the head. I bought this long itty bitty brushes on Amazon to clean pushrod holes because I noticed some new pushrods have crap in them. It sure is hard to get good parts nowadays you just can't trust things. If you happen to read this do you have a video talking about your 5.2 aw4 swap in that tj? I'd like to know how you got that all working. I really like the aw4 I've played with them a lot and I've thought about doing a 5.9 in an xj and I'd want to use the aw4. I've also thought about a Toyota 2jz using the Lexus is300 Bell housing with the aw4 I actually looked into that a bit but I'm not sure it's my style the a340 version of the aw4 came in the automatic supras behind the 2jz. I have a 4.6 stroker in my main Cherokee.
You know I love your vids, especially the last one hill banging, but that engine without motor mount supports is spooky as hell. To much with that nice engine on it. 😂😂😂😢
What youre trying to say is it has a smaller base circle on the camshaft. You see that more on old school engines that have smaller cam bearings. Aftermarket blocks will usually have bigger cam journal bores. A bigger cam core will slow down the ramp rate of the lifter providing a longer lasting and more stable valve train.
Cool project and video! Any reason to use the WJ flex plate here instead of the stock XJ, any practical differences or just a matter of what you had available after selling the old one?
Dex I own a 99 xj. First ever jeep!! Anyway. What's the best steering gear box to use? Mine leaks and is cutting in and out. I have a junk yard with another xj and Durangos and other vehicles. I think I heard Durangos fit. Is that true? Is that worth doing?
Like your channel, really fun to watch but dude, your break-in procedure had me stressed! You guys running without an o2 sensor and also leaving some vacuum ports open made me nervous and worried about your stroker leaning out too much or running too rich which either one can damage the pistons. Interesting that you guys run without an o2 sensor cause when mine got disconnected, it started to backfire, sputter and then die. Glad the vlavetrain tap went away...they say that bigger cams and roller rockers tend to be a bit more noisy. Did you get new lifters?
Id agree with that comment id bought a brand new ac Delco heavy duty high torque SBC 168 tooth starter for a automatic truck and it was toast would not even bump over, and next time I bought a ac Delco professional $65 mini high torque sbc automatic starter from Amazon and the truck immediately just turns around a quarter of a rotation and fires up i give up the new parts store 168 tooth starter was $254, I give up lol crap
15:40 Man tell me about it ! Nowdays i gotta worry and pick and choose my poison on the quality of parts dude, Its a shame man.... 18:00 Yeah i've done that the 1st time i did a cam swap no too long ago ! I wasted almost 3 whole quarts of VR1 cause i forgot the drain plug 😆😆 Yeah that thing sounds sweet man ! You can tell how happy he is around the 51 minute mark with his lil grin dude :) Id be happy too ! But yeah the 6 to 1 header design will make it sound higher pitched ! I now run the header from American racing headers and it made my jeep sound more like a 6 cylinder over as the 2 piece manifolds made it sound more like a v8 and alot more lower pitched and mean sounding ! 54:09 Really you cant preach religion on YT ? That's a damn shame ! 59:09 Seems about right ? when i broke in my cam and rod bearings i really didnt get as much flake but rather it was like a very fine grit glitter !
i would kill to have a friend or two like yall. thanks for the video

I was glued to the tv screen the entire video. Loved it!!!
Sounds pretty snappy, can't wait to see what you shoehorn it into. Thanks for the update Dex.
All engines sound snappy without a 50lb torque converter bolted to the flywheel.
Yo bro the long videos are awesome bro like a dexter movie
Dex you are the jeep god. That motor is sweet
24lb injectors are perfect for a 4.7 but if you're catless watch out for lean mixtures at WOT. HPtuners can clean it up.
The junkyard jeep is a freakin death trap lmao

Always comforting that you get anxious starting these things too
Mark had me cracking up, good addition too this video haha
It sounds really good have you seen the stroker Matt’s off-road uses in his Cherokee
Built a 4.2 Ford motor 2 years ago with a cheap eBay rebuild kit been running great
Are those motors junky? I just got given an f150 eith one and i wanna get some opinions on it

The valve cover is actually pretty good. I wonder if they would sell a lot of them. Great job. It sounds good.

At the 20-minute mark, my anxiety was killin' me.
This sounds absolutely beast mode.
Higher the number the leaner the mix I believe?

I used a similar 6-1 header and cut the collector back till it would fit a 3" vband, that made a huge difference.
Sounds amazing
Yep small base circle cam is a thing. Necessary on most strokers to keep the tallest part of the lobes away from the rods…

What weight oil is your preferred DD oil in a 4.0?

as for the iridium plugs, my 4.0 refused to run right with them, went back to copper and no issues

Put your filter in a vise next time and then use your cutter to cut around the top spin the tool not filter

What cam did you instalon it 5.0?? sounds great !!!
