You guys completely left out the AMC Eagle wagon which was the true predecessor of the XJ. Remember, FSJ continued production after the XJ was created. The Cherokee only adopted it's name.
Picked up a '00 WJ for $600. 4.0 Inline 6 with the AT-5 5-speed transmission. 248k miles. A few sensors, an oil change, and new tires later, its in decent shape, and a great offroad and winter performer.
On my 4th jeep, and it’s my second XJ. You cannot deny how good of a car these things are. They just don’t die out, you can beat the hell out of a 4.0 and it will just keep running. Not to mention how good they are on the trail. Can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve seen a clapped XJ destroy a fully built wrangler on the trails.
Cringe Master Yeah, Dodge is clearly the best out of this group when it comes to being cool. All I need now is a ram 1500 with a hellcat engine and I’ll be set!
I own a '14 KL Trailhawk, which is probably up there in the most hated jeep categories. But I absolutely love it. Comfortable, beautiful pano sun roof, rear locker, 4low, skid plates, and I added Bilsteins, a lift, and AT3Ws. It's a blast at the sand dunes
the xj was the first unitbody suv and the first coil sprung jeep. Im sorta disappointed about how much you left out about the xj and the fact that you included jeep grand cherokees. the 5.9 grand cherokee deserves its own video. the liberty is not a cherokee and its ifs
To be fair. The Cherokee is technically in its fifth gen with the KL. While they changed the name here in the states. They kept the Cherokee name on the global platform on the KJ and KK models. Which they called the liberty in the states.
I'm disappointed that they just closed over the KJ Liberty/Cherokee. They are far more capable off road then they get credit for and they reversed the slumping sales the Cherokee was experiencing given that by 2001 it was an ancient design that while popular with people that wanted to go off road was not making in roads with someone that wants a vehicle that is capable of handling rough terrain but is more comfortable on the road at the same time.
And has been started the Liberty is branded as the Cherokee everywhere but the US. The only reason it want here was the "purists" insisted the Cherokee would continue to sell and out sell the bee Liberty...need less to say the XJ Cherokee died the following year when its sales imploded.
Wow. I had no idea most driving was done on the road. The more you know. My first car was a 96 ZJ with the inline 6. That car will always be my baby and watching this video made me even more proud to own one. You’re awesome man
The grand cherokee zj is the 🐐. Luxury and comfort solid axles, coils front and rear, v8 options, as capable as the wrangler and xj cheaper than both. I love all 3 of mine
If it weren't for the low pinion front axle, the aluminum dana 44, and the transfer case theyd be perfect. easy to swap those out with better ones though
just started working on my late fathers 96 xj thats been sitting in my yard for TEN YEARS, so far I've replace gas tank/pump and it started right up, super easy to work on and great engine.
We have two rusty XJs and just can't part with them. I even sold off my TJ. It's hard to beat a small 5 door wagon for fishing, hunting, camping, and being able to drive through the woods off a road or trail. Places you just can't fit a full size truck or SUV.
Still got my 01 Cherokee.. my roommates have changed cars three times, all modern vehicles. I kept mine because it’s never left me, minimal problems, I can get anywhere, and the damn thing is indestructible.
The XJ Cherokee was totally unrelated to the Liberty and was discontinued in 2001, I don't think they shared anything beyond a name and maybe some small parts bin trim or electrical components. The Liberty had a different un that was shorter and taller than the XJ. The Liberty used a Chrysler 2.4l I4 or 3.8l V6, mated to a Chrysler automatic transmission or an NV manual. All but the very first and very last XJs had an AMC 4.0l I6 or 2.5l I4, mated to an Aisin-Warner transmission. The Liberty had a front independent suspension and rear solid axle with a control arm/coil setup similar to the 2005 WK Grand Cherokee, while the XJ had two solid axles with a control arm/coil front and a leaf spring rear. Wanna know another fun fact about the XJ? It was made by Jeep's Chinese division for their domestic market up until 2006, some with a raised roof and stretched wheelbase to enlarge the tiny backseat and act as a taxi or chauffeured vehicle. Starting in 2009 and continuing until 2014 another Chinese company restarted domestic production of the XJ as the BAW Qishi, but used older Nissian engine designs instead of the original AMC engines.
Well to be fair. The rest of the world, while the us had the KK liberty, well they got the KK Cherokee. If that matters, to them it’s like the Cherokee got a new refresh.
I can't even finish this without pausing to let the out of this world editing settle in. This man sitting and talking is overwhelming my senses. The amount of time in editing must be crazy. Crazy over the top performance team! ( in a good way)
I've got a WJ with the 4.0L and it's amazingly reliable. Also they ruined the Grand Cherokee after 2005. Srt was cool and all but they look like crap. The newest ones are decent, but they still have an odd feminine look to them.
I have a 04 wj PT v8 QD. It's a BEAST. Fuck what anyone heard. The xj and wj are my favorite. Gotta love that SRT wk though. I've seen some wks lifted and what not before and they look pretty good and aren't bad off road. My wj makes shit look easy.
I just realized why he’s so funny, James behaves just like Jack Black did in the early days. Similar vocal influxes, pauses, and oddly similar looks? Very entertaining

I remember when my dad used to have a 2002 WJ Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7-litre SOHC PowerTech V8 when I was a kid, and it had possibly the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever sat in. However, I use the term 'car' loosely here, since it was actually closer to a giant sofa with a big engine and four wheels attached to it. I remember when we went to pick it up back in July 2010, and from the moment 10-year-old me sat in it for the first time, I was in heaven as the seats were just oh-so-comfy, and I felt myself almost sinking into them with just how soft and comfortable they were - they were more like comfy armchairs than actual seats! That was one of the reasons why I consider my dad’s old WJ Grand Cherokee to be my overall favourite out of all the cars my family has ever owned in the past - the other reason being the noise from that V8. You just don’t get seats this comfortable and plush in newer cars nowadays…

Seems like they're the ones who did it. lol..
@@dinosoarskill17 nah, dude deserved it. anarchists were doing god's work
What a coincidence.
this made me laugh
They obviously assassinated him, thats the point of an assassination.
The amount of times I’ve thought to myself “I’m done with fixing this truck, I really just wanna Jump it off a hill” is represented by that first clip 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Failed to mention the 2015 Cherokees on how they were getting hacked all the time. Got mine brand new off the lot and we've been through 3 Transmissions already, seat heater caught the seat on fire twice in a week, stuck accelerator pedal, and the parking break turned on when I was driving 4 times. I blame Fiat
These pepbros ads are the best sellout thing I’ve ever seen
Word they make sellout fun lol
Matt's off-road towing and recovery uses a modified Jeep Cherokee for his job, and it's boss!
Years later, they did the collab just a few months ago.
lol at 1:35 "10 gallons per mile"
Sarah Thomasson so it’s a hummer?
At this point I think I’m just watching for those mid video plugs, pepbros for life!
the one in the bronco video is still my fav so far
Had a 95 cherokee with a 5 speed & the HO 4.0, greatest car I’ve ever owned and i kick myself for selling it every day.
Got a 91 5 speed ho 2 door
Thats my current ride. I even got antique plates for it, lol. I love my 2 door.
@@PhysifistEngineering the 2 doors are classics so the antique plates make sense
I have officially approved this message.
I own a Cherokee, I've been waiting for this episode 🙏 thanks guys
Rowdy Shinkle agree! Watching this video with a huge smile and my 95 XJ in the driveway
Hell yeah! I own a 2000 jeep cherokee sport! 4.0 rules!
You guys completely left out the AMC Eagle wagon which was the true predecessor of the XJ. Remember, FSJ continued production after the XJ was created. The Cherokee only adopted it's name.
6-12 year old me thought the Eagle was the coolest car
The amc eagle coupes are so cool
Picked up a '00 WJ for $600. 4.0 Inline 6 with the AT-5 5-speed transmission. 248k miles. A few sensors, an oil change, and new tires later, its in decent shape, and a great offroad and winter performer.
Love the shout out to the Comanche “it was pretty Sick”
Yeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss!!!! I love the old XJs
Ford: Let’s kill all the cars
Chevy: *cackling* (kills the SS) *more cackling*
Dodge: Put the Hellcat engine in that too
Cringe Master
Yeah, Dodge is clearly the best out of this group when it comes to being cool.
All I need now is a ram 1500 with a hellcat engine and I’ll be set!
I can appreciate that they didn't de-tune the Hellcat engine that's in the TrackHawk. Someone in marketing fought hard for that 707
Tom Lake Charles buy one and we can build it
Up to speed on the Mazda Eunos Cosmo 🙏
Then Mazdaspeed!!!!!!!!
No , it's a good jeep and does the deed very well. Comfort is important and it doesn't drive like a brick ✌️🦆
@@timkincade9763yeah my lifted WJ drives like a tank on road
the xj was the first unitbody suv and the first coil sprung jeep. Im sorta disappointed about how much you left out about the xj and the fact that you included jeep grand cherokees. the 5.9 grand cherokee deserves its own video. the liberty is not a cherokee and its ifs
Tanner that's because they know nothing other than jdm cars
Actually the Liberty was called the Cherokee pretty much everywhere other than North America.
I miss my Cherokee. '99 5spd. So fun.
I have a white 99 2dr 5sd 380k miles. I will drive it till it wont go anymore
I had a Jeep Cherokee 2001 that got stolen. I loved it and I miss it still.😢
REVVV UP YOUR GRAND CHEROKEES !!!!
Oh wrong vid

JSPH : I got 2 of em
That was actually, astonishingly, an amazing alliteration whether accident or authentic!
I just got a 95 4.0 Cherokee today. 108,000 original miles. Already in love.
Man I would like a zj episode. The first uni body, most under rated jeep ever made. It comes with a damn V8. Coil springs all the way around.
I thought the XJ Cherokee and Wagoneer were unibody SUVs. Am I wrong?
Fun fact: James’s dad has gained 500 pounds since the Ford GT video
I have a 97 4.0 zj love it
If it weren't for the low pinion front axle, the aluminum dana 44, and the transfer case theyd be perfect. easy to swap those out with better ones though
i have a 95 zj and mine is solid other than the trans cooler that keeps taking a shit
Best one yet. I own a 5.9 ZJ and a WK.
just started working on my late fathers 96 xj thats been sitting in my yard for TEN YEARS, so far I've replace gas tank/pump and it started right up, super easy to work on and great engine.
We have two rusty XJs and just can't part with them. I even sold off my TJ. It's hard to beat a small 5 door wagon for fishing, hunting, camping, and being able to drive through the woods off a road or trail. Places you just can't fit a full size truck or SUV.
Last time I was this early I couldn't think of a joke either

Up to Speed on Pepboys?
Incorrect they used a 3.7
Josh Figueroa not that anyone cares about what engine went in the Jeep Liberty
In other parts of the world it was still called a cherokee, so I guess not totally unrelated
Well to be fair. The rest of the world, while the us had the KK liberty, well they got the KK Cherokee. If that matters, to them it’s like the Cherokee got a new refresh.
they did share the 8.25 rear axle
I can't even finish this without pausing to let the out of this world editing settle in. This man sitting and talking is overwhelming my senses. The amount of time in editing must be crazy. Crazy over the top performance team! ( in a good way)
I've got a WJ with the 4.0L and it's amazingly reliable. Also they ruined the Grand Cherokee after 2005. Srt was cool and all but they look like crap. The newest ones are decent, but they still have an odd feminine look to them.
yeah, third gen Grand Cherokee was crap. 4th gen is better but it was partially engineered by Mercedes, so I'd expect repair costs to be high.
@@cpufreak101 That's a bummer.
Is that your jeep?
Zj and wj where its at
I have a 04 wj PT v8 QD. It's a BEAST. Fuck what anyone heard. The xj and wj are my favorite. Gotta love that SRT wk though. I've seen some wks lifted and what not before and they look pretty good and aren't bad off road. My wj makes shit look easy.
I'm in the process of buying my first and XJ and I'm super excited.
Just got myself a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I can confirm, it's still an awesome ride.

And if you ever sell it sell it to me, cuz these 98s just don’t die, I have the exact same Jeep, year and all, 400000 miles and it still runs like a dream
@@mikeirl3565 It’ll never be sold, my step dad drives it in the winter to keep his 2000 Silverado rust-free from the road salt and it just got a new PCM put in it and resetted the mileage from 203,000 back down to 140,000.

@@mikeirl3565 It needs a little work on it like replacing the entire exhaust since it has a leak and the headliner is sagging which I can fix with a stapler and needs a new console.
