Just when you think that the boundaries of musical language have been reached.......your ears discover a new dimension. Buzzing energy between 3 fabulous folks
Should it be called "I'm With Him"? lol ! The smile on the face of the talented Sarah Jarosz speaks for itself ... In a boat called musical phenomenon there would be a place reserved for all three! Thank God for this amazinbg generation .
I wish the camera had focussed on Sarah's lead during "Mountain Girls". This is a great class in harmony singing, lots of great pointers and tips by some of the best...
I love this video and its companions. These people are young, really accomplished and nicely articulate about it. Yes, yes,, yes with camera misappropriation. Can't help but think whoever was directing assumed the cool many-note solo had to be from Thile despite looking at what Thile was doing -- he was playing rhythm -- and hearing Jarosz's solo in a range and timber that clearly wasn't Thile's mandolin. Ah, who knows. A shame though. She's a fine player.
A friend once said to me at a festival, after hearing some awesome playing, on the level of these musicians here, "I don't know whether to go practice, or just go home and cut all my fingers off!". She was kidding of course. But the point was made.
In case anyone's wondering what Sarah's split-second reaction moment is that Chris talks about, I'm pretty sure it's the infinitesimally small finger twitch at 44:17 where the chord change would happen if it were a half-length intro... Slick.
Great masterclass/Q&A/whatever you want to call it. Very helpful in learning to sing with others! I especially like the advice to put on an album you know and just sing along- that's pretty much how I learned to sing harmony- and to get involved with vocal ensembles in your community, as there really is so much out there to discover. Love the performances too of course. These people are so talented. I especially liked "Miss Manhattan" towards the end- I liked seeing Aoife mouthing along to Chris's part, ha! He did the same to her part when they performed it on APHC (as seen under their RUclips channel). Sarah and Aoife sound really great together too, it's cool that Sarah studied under Aoife at a music camp when she was younger.
So good to see Aoife nominated for three Grammy’s this year! I don’t recall if she has been before but with Sara having won 3 I’m glad Aoife has the recognition!
This is so, so helpful - this is fascinating and just so rich, and I wanted to thank everyone who provided this content - a lesson from such generous young experts who are willing to share -- no way to adequately thank them!
Wonderful show, and it will help people! I'm surprised that a simple explanation of how harmony actually works wasn't given. They could have done it and demonstrated it in less than 2 minutes.
Ever notice how Thile uses about 3/4" of the pick for picking the strings? Cool - some teachers tell you to "choke up" on the pick and use very little pick, just the very tip. I think this is wrong advice for loud, fast picking. Bryan Sutton uses a lot of pick, too.
Trunk McEight Good thing to work on - lets the top move as freely as possible. Old habit of pinky anchoring is hard for me to break though. Try keeping your fingers closed in a fist for more volume too.
I swear that there are some arschlochs who live on the Death Star as it travels through the Black Holes in the Dark Web that just cruise YT to rage with thumbs down on anything that others like. I could just spit!
This always happens at these kind of things. They should know that they have to repeat the questions from the audience, because we can’t hear it. Ahhrg!
BTW, the only way anyone can sing Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere" is to write down the lyrics and then use it as a crib sheet. Ridiculus. So ridiculus. Bless y'all. Skaggs & Rice covers will be found and celebrated.
Great stuff.

there are no boundaries to musical language

Love this! Thanks Aoife, Sarah, and Chris.

Lmao!!
Practice! Practice is the life-affirming response!
This is eargasmic. It sounds old, it sounds new and it's a joy to watch.
Eargasmic! You sir are a genius.
Talent and Humility is keypoint of these three exceptional Musicians.
Beautiful behind the scenes gives me even more respect for these skilled entertainers, when I never imaged could happen.
Great insight into how the minds truly gifted people work. All I could think about was wish they would come sing on my front porch.
In case anyone's wondering what Sarah's split-second reaction moment is that Chris talks about, I'm pretty sure it's the infinitesimally small finger twitch at 44:17 where the chord change would happen if it were a half-length intro... Slick.
Nick Siepmann Good eye. Thanks for pointing that out!
Wow, i need to start practicing. This was so much fun. Thanks.

Just incredible...all of them. Alone or together...
Phenomenal clinic-concert by these three magical artists!!

2:42 aoife’s vocal turn GOT ME
"So, this is how i throw lightning..." -Zeus, on that stage.
What an enjoyable and helpful session! Thank you so much for sharing this.
It's a miracle the stage didn't collapse ;-)
This is great! Thanks for posting this.
There expertise is priceless 👏👏👏☮️
My favorite part is still 44:22 (but it happens at 44:24) - Sarah’s face when Chris just stops playing and interrupts “😧” 😂😂
I'm ecstatic I found this!
This just such a good and informative video, thanks for posting this
I'm glad someone made a mistake at 3:27. I was beginning to think they were perfect. These are three of the best.

So many difficult names on one stage

Wonderful show, and it will help people! I'm surprised that a simple explanation of how harmony actually works wasn't given. They could have done it and demonstrated it in less than 2 minutes.
Oh my God. Just oh my god.
The Punch Siblings has a nice sound .

Muy bueno!

This was certainly time well spent; any consideration to making it a download for a reasonable sum?
you can download it yourself using a downloading software.
Jim's videos you can download it directly from RUclips. :)
Try YTD downloader
58:35 I can only imagine he is talking about Yo-Yo Ma here lol
"Voice memo everthing" Hear, hear! Huzzah! Prost!
What does "voice memo everything" mean? It sounds like some kind of way to improve singing or playing, but I don't understand what he is saying to do.
Hello, can someone tell me... is Sarah playing an eight string guitar? Thank you.
It's an octave mandolin

Scrolling through the comments looking specifically for this question! Thanks!
Jumping Jehoshaphat that was good.
This one and the Punch Brothers session... there's a slight crackle of clipping on my end. Or maybe it's the crummy ChromeBook.
Jarosz - Ya-Rosh :)
Young Folk Harmony!
😎😍🤩
When will Chris marry A'oiffe?
Not any time soon. They're both spoken for.
21:37 - einfach genial
Thanks for the upload. What is the instrument Sarah is playing?
From another You tube upload, I read, "mandocello.".
who could sing any better than the late John Denver?
I want to sing with them! But I would lip sync so I wouldn't ruin the sound.
What's up with that guitar Sarah Jarosz plays? (probably not a guitar, I'm guessing...)
Found it thanks to someone in another video, in case anyone is interested fletcherbrock.com/Photos.html#38
