I agree, I hope they handled quality control better this time and the only disappointment is the design is wayyyy to derived from the s8
From a distance they both look same but that is not true. LG V30 trades it's predecessors secondary display and has a thin borders at top and bottom whereas S8/plus has an edge to display but no secondary display. So, design isn't that similar.

This is what the LG G6 should have been, an amazing phone with lots of customisation options with unique features turning it into a media consumption/production power house. Nice to see LG shrinking down the borders between their flagships and Samsung's (no pun intended). Would be good to have a direct comparison against the Galaxy S8+.
After watching this video I'm sold to the v30 instead of the note 8. Great detail review thanks.

Steven Juris My bad. I thought LG removed the FM tuner also. Thats goood to know. Hubert SAMUT It's an actual FM radio tuner so you don't need internet data. Just need headphones plugged in as the wire acts as an antennae.
Not gonna lie, the V30 is finally a good looking LG phone after the G2 (or G3). It looks and function better than even the S8 (which has a useless Bixby button and awkwardly positioned fingerprint scanner).
wildreams useless bixby button? I've heard nothing but good reviews about bixby once it was finally launched, and btw everyone I know that has a s8 said they got used to the fingerprint location after one week of usage
jack con I have an S8 and yes I can confirm that the placement of the scanner is the perfect spot IMO
wildreams unless you've used or owned the s8 don't run your mouth. I use a case and I don't have problem with fingerprint scanner on my S8+.Bixby does things the assistant can't do
I have the s8, I can say the fingerprint scanner is NOT at the perfect spot because you have to reach a bit for it but you DO get used to it after a week of use, people that keep bitching about it clearly havent used the phone, muscle memory kicks in but yeah LG has the better placement because you dont really have to learn it
Gavynn1000 S8+ user: Placement is trash and there's no excuse for that. Stop defending the dumb things Sammy does. Also, Bixby is slow and randomly goes off WAY TOO OFTEN. Cool in concept but at this point, terrible execucation.

LG has had a full and extensive theme engine since the V20 (the last LG phone I've owned so far). What's cool is anyone can make a theme, so you can find a bunch just on the play store. Just search LG V30 theme. There is one that is designed to make it look more like stock Android. And the theme engine truly is quite extensive. It changes the icons, the notification panel / quick togels area, the settings app, and even all of the LG apps to make it all very cohesive.

I have the V10 that I have been quite pleased with. I'm expecting lots of emails from my provider soon, offering me an upgrade. I appreciate this review because it was more like a tutorial, which is extremely helpful. Thank you so much for your time in giving viewers a more detailed walk through. Your video will likely help me decide whether to switch over or stay put! Of course, I should mention that I own my V10 outright, so the cost will be a huge consideration for me as well as the shiny new toy temptation!

This is by far the absolute best, most in-depth video preview of this phone. You've hit on some many points in such a short period of time. Very descriptive. I can't wait to see an even further in-depth review Once the production model is available.
Thanks for the overview. Only gripe I have is the 5mp front camera and 4gb ram. But I will still be getting this for a review.

for what it's worth there isn't a single app that will cause you to notice the difference between 4gb vs 6gb Samsung used the 6 as marketing hype makes no improvement in real world applications

I am Italian and am very glad to speak fluent English thanks to professional people like you Sir. Absolutely the best review of this phone so far. Finally someone who tells with knowledge, detail, clarity and proper pace most if not all of the great features offered by this jewel from LG. I have heard many other reviews, most sounded superficial, biased by other brands and, now I know, even mistaken about some features.
I thank you for finally convincing me into getting this unit and for saving me the time to look at other, much less accurate reviews. :-)

Andre actually Steve designed the 5. That was his last input but I bet he had say on prototypes for other sizes they played around with but the 5 was his last phone.
I have been researching this device for at least the last two weeks. I am glad that I came across this post. Hands down, this is one of the most thorough reviews ever, which as a result, solidified my decision to make the switch back to LG. The last LG that I had was the LG 4. I changed carriers for a no-contract plan, however, have recently switched back to Verizon. I will be getting this phone as soon as humanly possible. I think that I will be able to pre-order on Oct 5. The only thing that I am not too happy about is that I hear that the LG V30 "plus" will only be available thru Sprint. I am guessing that "plus" for LG means a larger phone, which I am always fonder of. However, having the regular sized device is not a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the review!! This is the last one that I will be looking at before getting rid of my Galaxy S8 Plus this weekend.
The plus is for the 128 GB of memory instead of the 64GB in the regular.

Honestly, loved this review, by far one of the best, if not, the best review out there. Went into relevant details that will actually effect everyday use and only owners would ever learn about, I'm currently using a HTC One M8 and it's ran strong and well for 4 years, still going, I've been looking into the LG V30 and this review has pretty much finalised my choice, only downside is the front camera and the 4 GB of RAM, I'ma wait it out and hope LG see this feedback and launch one that's slightly more powerful, Props to LG, Smashed it !!

This is what i would call a very thorough analysis of the Lg V30. My compliments!
Only negative aspects of the device are the ackward position of the head phone jack which i would like to see at the bottom of the phone because it suits me better when i hold the phone in vertical position (in horizontal postion it will not be much of an issue) and i will also miss the IR blaster which i use a lot on my Lg G2 since i loose or break remote controls all the time. But since it is time to upgrade my phone, Lg V30 ticks all the other boxes so i am going to purchase as soon as its price drops in to more reasonable level!

LG V30 very impressive.
I've owned the V20 for about a year now and I'm still happy with the device. Battery life is still decent too. Only issue I have with it is burn in. I get a yellow cast on both sides of the screen. I will definitely be getting the v30.

No kidding. The UI and Icons and even the Home Screen is roughly the same as my own V20 International Dual SIM. The notification shade is bulky and ugly.

your review/overview made me want to get this phone over any other phone. I think one of the main selling points for me is that wide angle lens camera, which is pretty darn unique!

Looks a great phone.
For a 6” screen it doesn’t look that tall, really nice design. Wide Angle Cam, Quality DAC, Headphone Jack, SD Card, FM Radio, IP68 Water and Dust Resistance, Great Build Quality (MIL-STD-810G compliant) Bluetooth 5, Fingerprint Scanner, Wireless Charging... ticks so many boxes. Nice one.

Am a big LG fan straight from the other electronics they produce though have not yet owned one of their phones. Am definitely getting this phone when it comes out. All thanks to your in-depth analysis of the unit. Big up man and keep them videos coming.

For everyone who's saying that GIF mode in V30 was a rip off from Samsung.
LG G6 has the GIF mode which was launched/announced a month prior to SS GS8 which was the first galaxy device to have it. So we know who ripped off whom :)

It's in pre-production at the moment, meaning that anything on the software side of things can happen between now and its release. Quite frankly, software optimization is inevitable. The big concern with LG phones is their Android skin. Custom skins can bog down performance on any device, and this is especially evident with Samsung's phones.
Travis Roopnarine im using a LG and TBH its not that bad at all. I usually like stock android but LG UI is not a dealbreaker.
they actually spent a lot of time getting user feedback for their UI and changing it, but their users must be giving them terrible advice or something
Pety And what would you recommend they change. I hear these kind of complaints and never have been able to figure it out. It's a UI, it works and looks fine. I think these complaints are silly and people are just never satisfied and will find something negative.

Q slide is very useful. When you are in a chat or on a website where you can't select a phone number to dial or Google now on tap doesn't recognise it, you put the dialer on q slide to float above the webpage or in a chat and you can type the number right on there without having to try and remember it or switch between the screens. It is also incredibly useful for the calendar when lets say you are discussing dates for a function with friends or family or colleagues; you basically have the calendar floating above the chat with some transparency and you can see all dates and on which days they fall. It is very useful excuse you. I hope they never remove that because I use it almost daily!

Ramon Garcia this is my main issue, this phone might get the next one or two Android updates if your lucky, after that who knows? At least with iPhones you can still update the phone to the latest version of IOS even when it's 4-5 years old, and on the same day as everyone who had a new iPhone. That's how it should be, don't punish people for having a phone for over 12 months!
