When Williams was a Top 3 Team
Remember when they had a 1-2 in Austria and decided to play it safe instead of trying to win the race. That to me was the beginning of the downfall of Williams. McLaren are back on their way up, hopefully Williams can follow suit quickly. Williams, McLaren and Ferrari should never be at the back of the grid. Those three teams mean way to much for F1 to be at the back

Hamilton fended off rosberg on tyres that were quite a bit slower back in the day. one of the best races I’ve ever watched. remember it like it was yesterday
Alternative title: A race with only Hamilton and Rosberg
In hindsight this is a really underrated performance from hamilton, now that we know Roberg was on a superior tyre strategy (ok we could've worked that out at the time) and Nico disobeyed team orders and put his car into a higher power engine mode that Mercedes had forbidden due to the potential for reliability issues due to heat and sand getting in.
All of that and he still couldn't pass Lewis, an absolute masterclass and one of his finest drives and one of the finest of all time imo.
And people complain that the RB19 is dominant. THIS is dominance, lapping 2s quicker whilst fighting....
As a Mercedes fan I came here for this after hearing Lewis comments lol 😅
At least both drivers could match each other. Checo cant even match what Bottas for merc and Ricciardo did for red bull!

People say we can't complain about Red Bull's dominance because Mercedes lasted 6 years, but I'll say one thing, at least there was a dispute, even if it was between teammates, there was a dispute, 2014-2016 had a great battle between Hamilton and Rosberg, 2017 and 2018 saw big battles between Vettel and Hamilton, 2019 and 2020 Hamilton won by a margin in the championship, but the other teams weren't far behind in the battles in the races
Agree!
Only a pair of world champions, in championship cars, could have a battle quite like this.
1:06 Wow I knew Mercedes was the fastest back in 2014 but never knew they were that much faster. Just look at their gap to 3rd place
About 2 seconds quicker at here, but in 2016 i think they were overall faster, more dominant anyway but literally top 6 cars, Mercedes, Red Bull (Renault), Williams (Mercedes), Ferrari, Force India (Mercedes), McLaren (Mercedes) and all Mercedes engined cars got on the podium, 4 were Mercedes
Am Nah Yeah in 2016 they won all but 2 races and those two lost races weren’t even on pace, they were driver errors and misfortune. It was scary how quick they were then. At least we have some form of competition now be it from Ferrari or Red Bull
@@TheBurntFish453 2016 was still a pretty good season tho... At least drivers could race each other without this dirty air nonsense
roland van der Vegt Guess so but last year wasn’t bad either to be honest. 5 winners in a year isn’t too bad.
@@TheBurntFish453 Mercedes wasn't that dominant. In some cases even RedBull came close in race conditions or grabbed a second place splitting them.
Don't forget Ferrari let opportunities slip out of their hands to win, like in Australia, Canada, with strategy. They had good pace. Mercedes was slightly faster.
Also, in Russia Vettel was crashed out, in Bahrain he couldn't even get to start cuz of engine problem, he had chances to win in both races.

Racing was better then imo coz drivers didnt have to worry about their tyres because they would have 3 stops. Nowadays they only have one stops and drive in a certain way to maintain the tyres
Difference between having 6 cars in the lead and having only 2
@@alisajadmohammadi749 Yeah, as if 3 stops are better. Racing wasn't better. It was too easy to pass. The cars were just shit and overtaking was based on tyre life. They also had to manage fuel A LOT.
@@Firemarioflower yeah I agree with that but I'm talking in terms of tyre management -even tho then tyres would wear off quickly- they still didnt have too worry about their tyres falling off. Nowadays they are just worrying about tyre management. I wasnt talking about the quality of racing sorry for the inconvenience caused.
@@alisajadmohammadi749 Hmmm..... I guess it's because it's harder to overtake now with tyre advantage. Otherwise they'd just say, ok we'll stop and we make up the lost time in the pistops on track with fresh rubber easily and hope the other dude will stop as well.
But in 2017 the quality of the tyres was superb, they could do 40 laps on the ultras in Austria even with hot weather blistering. Yet since 2018 the tyre quality went backwards again.
